  1. Baldur’s Gate 3 was unquestionably one of the greatest games of the 21st century, but it received so many awards, the developer had problems collecting them all. Larian Studios CEO, Swen Vincke, revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 got so many prizes, the developer had to send out carefully-selected teams to collect them, and it started impacting Larian’s work on other games. 2. One adventurous Elden Ring player has recently opted to turn the game's Mimic Tear boss ****** into a comical repeat of their clash with Messmer the Impaler. This yielded some interesting footage that later made the rounds in the Elden Ring community, with their "dollar tree Messmer" consequently amusing many a fan. View the full article
  3. CD Projekt Red fans will probably want to prepare themselves for The Witcher 4, as that's what the developer is furthest along on. These days, CD Projekt Red has quite a lot on its plate. There's that Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which isn't in production just yet, but work has started on it (and it's added some big names to it too). The developer also has a few Witcher titles in development, like Project Sirius, and Project Canis Majoris, both of which have kept mostly quiet so far. But the big one everyone is waiting on is Polaris, or The Witcher 4, which is supposed to be entering production later this year. With all of these projects on the way, there's obviously questions about which ones are being prioritised, and according to Cyberpunk 2077 sequel director Pawel Sasko, unsurprisingly, The Witcher 4 is the next big focus for CD Projekt Red. Sasko recently made an appearance on the Flow Games podcast, where he explained that most of the studio's projects are in the "early stages." What that says to me is "yes they're coming, no we won't have anything to show for a while," so I would stay patient with them. However, Sasko did reaffirm that The Witcher 4 should be fully kicking into production soon, saying, "The only difference is the Polaris project, so the new Witcher saga, that will enter production. That is the most advanced of all of those." This really isn't all that much of a surprise, as back in May CD Projekt Red provided an update on how many of its staff are working on various projects, with 407 team members working on Polaris, or The Witcher 4, as of the end of April, 2024. 4. If there’s one series that can be relied upon to dole out 80-hour helpings of joy straight into my eager face at regularly scheduled intervals, it’s the RPG brawler stylings of Yakuza/Like A Dragon. One could, I believe, make a convincing argument for Yakuza 0 being - if not the best videogame ever made - then at least the most videogame. While this coming October’s Amazon series won’t be the first live action adaption of Yakuza, I am hopeful its episodic format will give its characters a bit more room to breathe. Or, according to Kiryu actor Ryoma Takeuchi in an interview with IGN, to find the love they’ve always longed for. Read more View the full article

  7. If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber and didn't quite get enough time with Concord over the week, you're in luck, because it's around for another day. At Sony's May PlayStation State of Play, Firewalk Studios revealed its first game, Concord, a multiplayer hero shooter in the vein of games like Overwatch, but with more of a sci-fi, Guardians of the Galaxy-esque spin to it. The new title looked promising enough, but as with all fresh live-service IP, the real test would come when players could get their hands on it. And get their hands on it they have, as anyone that was a PlayStation Plus subscriber, or had the game pre-ordered on Steam, has been able to try out the game's closed beta since July 12, with it supposedly coming to a close yesterday, July 14. That obviously isn't much time to try it out, but as reported by IGN, the early access beta has been extended by a day to today, July 15. You now have until 12pm PDT/ 9pm CEST/ 4am JST to try the game out amongst other PlayStation Plus subscribers and those that pre-ordered on Steam, which isn't a huge amount more time either, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. While this beta was closed to the aforementioned groups, from July 18 to 21, there will be an open beta that anyone across PlayStation 5 and PC will be able to join in on. This is likely where we'll get more of an idea of how the game is faring, as when it comes to PC players, things didn't look great for the closed beta. Read more View the full article

  9. A spokesperson for GOG.com, the PC storefront which is set to distribute massive Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London, has confirmed to VG247 that it's currently not in line to be playable via Epic Games store-bought copies of the game at launch. If you're out of the loop, Fallout: London's a full conversion mod for Fallout 4 that's set to let us explore a post-apocalytic version of the English capital, complete with fresh factions and quests. After Fallout 4's next-gen update forced its creators to abandon their planned release date of April 23, the mod has been left in a bit of a purgatory. Following the recent announcement that the version of the mod now in line to be used for the initial release will require players to downgrade their copies of Fallout 4 to an iteration prior to the next-gen update, GOG has told VG247 that this switch will, at least in the short term, unfortunately have an effect on plans to try and offer the mod to PC players regardless of where they've bought the game. Team Liquid achieved North America’s most recent victory during the 2021 tournament. On Oct. 18, they defeated Gen.G in the group stage. 15. BioShock 4 may be an open secret at this point but the mysterious nature of the project means that when a supposedly leaked image of the game surfaces online it's difficult to not be excited. Publisher 2K confirmed that it was planning on continuing the beloved franchise in 2019 after a prolonged hiatus following the release of BioShock: Infinite in 2013. While details on the project are still sparse and consist largely of rumors and reports, this most recent ***** is the first visual evidence of the game's existence. View the full article
  16. Last week, Destiny 2 enjoyer-in-public Paul Tassi of Forbes wrote an article pointing out the similarities between The First Descendant’s in-game icons and those used by Bungie’s multiplayer looter shooter. 18. After VALORANT Patch 8.08 led my favorite controller to her grave, I decided to give what I’d call the shooter’s trickiest role a serious try. And if you are wondering how my “initiator experience” has been, I don’t have an easy answer. From Skye to Sova, I gave each of these supposedly “overpowered” VALORANT agents a chance to win my heart. After all, I wanted a new main for myself following Viper’s demise, and they had to be someone I could terrify my enemies with, like I did with the poison queen. View the full article

  20. Ryoma Takeuchi, the actor behind Amazon's live-action Like a Dragon: Yakuza series, is well aware of the weight of the role he's taking on. Last month, ***** announced that the Yakuza series, now rebranded as Like a Dragon, will be getting a live-action, TV show adaptation on Amazon. It's not the first time the series has gone the way of live-action, though it will be the first time in this era of "are video game adaptations kind of good now?" The show will unsurprisingly be about series mainstay Kazuma Kiryu, with this particular outing seeing Ryoma Takeuchi taking on the role. Takeuchi recently spoke with IGN Japan about joining the series, where he spoke about his feelings on portraying a character from a pre-existing series, and the challenges that came with that. "I was surprised to be offered this role," Takeuchi explained. "I knew about the game series and had played the first game at my uncle’s home. It’s a real challenge to play a character from an existing work, and I considered very carefully whether I was suited to portray Kiryu, and whether it was right for me. From the beginning, I knew I would have to give it everything I have, or I’d never pull it off." For Takeuchi, it very much became about crafting his own version of Kiryu, saying he had to create the character "from scratch." Of course, with a character as beloved as Kiryu, there are also some expectations from fans to consider. Read more View the full article

  24. I'm not sure it's physically or metaphysically possible to overfeed the Maw, but this week we put that desperate daydream to the test. There aren't any mega-sequels in the offing, none of yer Call Of Dutifuls, just an absolute deluge of neat and nifty originals - a deluge of such proportions I have been forced to unsheathe my HTML hammer and smash the customary single paragraph of PC game releases in twain. 25. Sony has extended the Concord early access beta by a day. The early access beta, which Sony had opened up to all PlayStation Plus subscribers, was meant to end on July 14. It now runs to Monday, July 15, at 12pm PDT, 9pm CEST, 4am JST. The open beta is still set to run from July 18 to July 21, unless Sony decides to extend that too. Players have got stuck in to the Concord early access beta over the weekend, and it seems to have gone down well with PlayStation 5 players. The early access beta is also available on PC via Steam only to those who have pre-ordered. There, the beta saw a peak concurrent player count of 1,124, set three days ago. At the time of this article’s publication, 150 were playing the Concord beta on Steam. It’s not great numbers for Firewalk’s 5v5 multiplayer hero shooter on Valve’s platform, but this weekend, when the beta will be truly open to all across PS5 and PC, we’ll get a clearer idea of interest. During the beta, all 16 of the launch Freegunners (player characters) are unlocked and available to play and customize. Here’s what you can play in the Concord early access weekend: Four maps: Freewater, Star Chamber, Water Hazard, Shock RiskThree modes: Cargo Run, Clash Point, Trophy HuntAll 16 Freegunners This weekend’s open beta includes all the early access content plus new map Bone Mines and mode Area Control. It’s worth noting early access and open beta progress carries over between the weekends, but progress from either beta will not carry over to the official launch on August 23. As for rewards, you get the Frog ******* Charm (Frog stands for “From Orbit to Ground” and is the name of the Northstar’s drop ship), a Star Flare Icon, and Business Card for taking part. Last month, Sony said Concord’s $39.99 price point “provides the full experience." Following Concord's divisive reveal during Sony's State of Play showcase in May, some had wondered whether the live service hero shooter would release in free-to-play form. Confirming Concord launches in both physical and digital standard editions for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, Pam Piscitello, director of marketing and operations at developer Firewalk, said in a post on the PlayStation Blog that this full experience includes all 16 playable characters, 12 maps set on various worlds, and six team-based modes. This will expand shortly after launch with regular, post-launch updates for all players at no additional cost, Piscitello added. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100.
