  3. starion is something of a fan(ged) favourite in Baldur's Gate 3—well-written, sympathetic, complex and, if we're being honest, quite pretty. As part of Larian's utter landslide of awards last year, voice actor Neil Newbon won top dog at the Game Awards for his performance. A landmark role by any metric... Read more.View the full article
  4. In November 2022, we started a side project in my company, a video game called Cuprum 2929. 5. Usually, once an Ultimate Team promo campaign is over, the player items from that campaign are no longer available in packs. The Futties Best of Re-Release selections change all that by bringing back some EA FC 24 fan favorites for one last run. The Futties campaign went somewhat under the radar thanks to the hype surrounding the official EA FC 25 reveal on July 17. While some players are already looking toward the next game in the series, many are still deeply ingrained in EA FC 24 Ultimate Team. Futties’ massive amount of content is a midsummer gift for that portion of the community. View the full article
  6. It sounds like you can expect lots more games on Netflix, as the streamer apparently has more than 80 in development right now. At this point in time, it's pretty clear that Netflix hasn't quite figured out video games just yet. It's obviously been dominating the film and television industry for years now, and while it's made some moves to stake a claim on the games industry like acquiring Oxenfree 2 developer Night School Studio, (which you can, of course, play through Netflix). There's also been a free Sonic game, one of the best roguelites around, and plenty more besides it, but I wouldn't say most people are aware of Netflix's attempt at being a games service. As part of the company's latest earnings call, though, Netflix co-ceo, president, and director Gregory Peters discussed its plans for gaming, and how it wants to grow that division (thanks, Eurogamer). Right now Netflix is apparently moving quite quickly with narrative games, with Peters saying they are "easier to build. And we place those in a narrative hub that we callNetflix Stories." Peters went on to say that starting this month, in July, Netflix is going to "launch about 1 new title per month into Netflix Stories, and this is amazing IP like Emily in Paris and Selling Sunset. And we have lots more, including very different types of games yet to come in the quarters and years ahead." Read more View the full article

  11. Politics isn’t for everyone, but if you want to take charge of the “Spot in Congress” clue in the NYT Times Mini Crossword, a push in the right (or left) direction helps. I completely understand if you don’t have time for the controversial and chaotic nature of politics in government. Many people have better things to be doing—like crosswords! Dipping your toes into the political end of this spectrum is vital for word games though, and the “Spot in Congress” clue in the July 22 NYT Mini. View the full article

  14. Ever since it launched in 2016, every Stardew Valley update has been free, and Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has no intention of changing that. Stardew Valley has had a lot of longevity over the past eight years, in part because of its devoted fandom and large amount of replayability, but also because ConcernedApe has consistently released big updates for the game with lots of new content. Some updates have been ******* than others, of course, but they've kept players coming back. The big thing, though, is that they've always been free - you won't pay a single penny more for the game outside of the $15 it costs you when you first buy it. And, as spotted by GamesRadar, ConcernedApe has made it clear on his personal Twitter that no matter what, he will never, ever charge for DLC or an update. ConcernedApe recently explained that the 1.6 update that PC players have had access to for a while is still in the works for the game's ports to other platforms, including PC and mobile. "I have personally been working on the mobile port every day," ConcerenedApe explained. "I will announce when there is any meaningful news." In response to this, one fan said that as long as everything the developer does is completely free, people won't complain for the wait, thanking ConcernedApe for the dedication to Stardew Valley. 15. Helldivers 2 left it a little late to pull out a victory in the game's latest Major Order, but they've still delivered, leading Arrowhead to reward this tenacity in the face of the Automaton hordes by temporarily making the use of one of the game's exosuits totally free. Yup, while some divers have been a bit distracted lately by potential warbond leaks and cool demakes, the collective force has still managed to persude Arrowhead to give them a nice prezzie. You love to see it. If you're out of the loop, this latest MO saw folks challenged to press the advantage after succesfully splitting the Automaton forces right down the middle like the pants of someone at a party drunkenly attempting the splits. This required the securing of three planets all beginning with Ch - Charon Prime, Charbal VII, and Choepessa IV - by the divers. Read more View the full article

  19. I’m glad you made an appointment. I’m here to prescribe an answer for the July 22 NYT Mini clue: “Prescriptions, for short.” Word games are a devious and delightful way of ******** time. If a clue stumps you such as “Prescriptions, for short,” a guide is needed—so let’s cure your woes. View the full article

  22. Swarm is the latest mode added to League of Legends, a chaotic bullet heaven game that adds a twist to the classic Summoners Rift gameplay. But does the mode have controller support? Despite League being a keyboard and mouse game, players have often attempted to play it on a controller. But Riot Games doesn’t offer controller support for any of its titles, including VALORANT and Wild Rift. There have been workarounds with third-party applications, but with League’s new Vanguard anti-cheat software, you may be on the banned list if they deem you have an unfair advantage. 24. Warframe developer Digital Extremes' CEO Steve Sinclair has said he thinks studios can be a bit too quick to drop live-service games. Live-service as a field is a particularly tricky one, because if you just don't have the player base to support it, your game can fizzle out pretty quickly. It's happened to plenty of games over the years, and I'm sure it'll happen to plenty more, but in a recent interview with VGC, Digital Extremes' Steve Sinclair has shared that he thinks some studios "eject too soon" from their games. "They think the release is make or break, and it’s not," Sinclair told VGC. "They have a financial way to be persistent, and they never do it. It comes out, doesn’t work and they throw it away. "Isn’t that a shame when you put so many years of your life into iterating on those systems or building technology or building the start of a community, and because the operating costs are high, you get terrified when you see the numbers drop and you leave. We’ve seen this with amazing releases that I think have massive potential, and I think they eject too soon." Read more View the full article
  25. Heihachi Mishima, the mustachioed malevolence of the Tekken series, is going to be the next DLC character for Tekken 8. He was last seen with his loving son Kazuya, who threw him into a volcano. Of course, to be fully submerged in impossibly hot liquid rock is merely a long-running family prank for the cast of this 3D fighting game, sort of like forcing your granddad to do the ice bucket challenge, but with lava. Nobody truly expected the *****-haired headbutter to be fully removed from the series. But I am a little surprised to see him back so soon. Read more View the full article
