Over the last few days, many in the games media and the Diablo 4 content creator scene have had the chance to go hands-on with the Spiritborn, the new class coming to the game with the Vessel of Hatred expansion in October. Blizzard’s official gameplay reveal was well-produced and straight to the point, so it didn’t touch on any of the game-wide systemic changes we can expect with the expansion. For that, however, the community has had to turn to interviews, gameplay shared by content creators and more to find some answers. Read more View the full article

Mircosoft has recently gone the extra mile with its Xbox Game Pass service, undergoing a near-total restructuring. Following its axing of the Game Pass for Consoles and introduction of Game Pass Standard, the company could be working on new tiers based on the cloud or featuring ads. Windows Central brought this information forward in a July 22 report. Jez Corden claims that Microsoft is “working towards a cloud-only version” of Game Pass at a lower price than the Ultimate tier. This new variant would be aimed at those who do not wish to purchase an Xbox console or do not own consoles. Cloud-based services have been removed from the lower tiers of Game Pass when Microsoft hiked prices, and some services, such as Game Pass for consoles, were discontinued entirely. The company might now want to provide cloud gaming to owners of lower tiers rather than just Ultimate subscribers. View the full article
One of the most memorable moments of Metro Exodus comes from a standoff with a giant catfish, who you have to avoid for a while (along with the cultists who worship it) before going "fishing" using an entire human corpse as bait. I didn't expect to see any rival catfish appearing in games after that, but now that I think about it - why not? They're a naturally freaky animal, perfect video game antagonists. And the developers of upcoming ********* folklore 'em up Otoshi No Shima seem to understand this, having created a monstrous creature with a gaping mouth that follows the player at every turn. Come see. Read more View the full article
The Boys season 4 only just wrapped up, but if you're looking forward to more, it's sounding like you've got a while to wait yet. It was only last week that the long awaited season 4 of The Boys wrapped up with its eighth and final episode, an episode that had to have a last-minute name change due to, uh, recent events. I won't spoil anything for those that haven't managed to catch up yet, but let's just see the titular Boys have been left in a bit of a tricky position, to put it lightly, one that will likely leave many wanting more pretty much immediately. Readers, something actually magical has happened! I’ve spent a non-zero amount of time this week compiling a wishlist for potential Stardew Valley-likes that also let me keep pets. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to play, but I knew I was burnt out on both stabbing and *********, and wanted something light and colourful with a solid loop that I could veg out (pun intended) with at the end of the day. I even went to so far as to create a chap named Karrot King in Stardew before quitting in disgust because I couldn’t easily access carrot seeds. I cannot in good conscious claim that I manifested such a videogame - that was the work of Skyreach Studio. However, this is the internet, so I will both take credit for it and offer you an exclusive discount on my course. While I’m waiting for your membership fee to arrive, I’ll be playing Critter Crops. It’s a witchy farming sim in which you grow odd pets and cast spells from flesh-bound grimoires. One of the verbs it offers on its Steam page is 'noodle'. Apologies to all the other games on my wishlist. Read more View the full article
League of Legends Swarm is Riot Games’ take on the Vampire Survivors formula, and its Hard Mode is making everyone scratch their heads. Oh no, you'd better run to Helldivers 2 as fast as you can. There's another Major Order about ******** a bunch of things, and it's looking like it'll be over before you can say 'slow down Super Earth, you're supposed to savour it a bit or you might get indigestion'. In case you don't get what I'm on about, Helldivers 2's player base has worked very hard to cultivate a reputation of being able to ******* ****** things in incredibly rapid fashion. The first time it happened, people were so confused they started trying to do maths. More recently, they blew through an entire MO in one evening and then started wondering if Arrowhead had accidentally set the required ****** total too low. These people do not play - well, they do, but you get what I mean. After landing some temporary free mech ride tickets via their last victory, the MO that's followed is a nice break from both fighting to control planets and battling the automatons. "Following the Helldivers' inspiringly rapid support of the Terminid Research Initiative, the Ministry of Science has requested a second, much larger research trial," it reads. "A key finding of the first research phase was that Terminid E-710 yield is significantly increased if harvested following periods of extreme duress. Read more View the full article
League of Legends Patch 14.15 is looking to be one of this season’s biggest, and the more we hear about it, the ******* it seems to get. Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, League’s lead gameplay designer, has announced big changes coming to the game’s core item—boots. Particularly, the developers are seeking to nerf defensive boots options since they have been too impactful in games, especially on the mid and top lanes where two champions went head to head. “For a long time, defensive boots have been too good in high levels of play,” Phroxzon wrote on X (formerly Twitter) today, July 23. He explained how these items were “very strong for their cost, ” resulting in matchups where neither champion could **** due to their effectiveness in lane. View the full article

Aurora has been all but forgotten in League of Legends since her launch, with shiny new game mode Swarm instead dominating players’ game time and discourse. And, oddly enough, Riot Games must have known it would happen—it’s become a trend with event-plus-champion releases. Since arriving in League on July 17, new champion Aurora has struggled to make a major splash in the game’s long-lasting fandom. Instead, everything has been focused around something else entirely: Swarm, the bold new bullet-heaven game mode Riot shipped alongside the champ. Unfortunately for the Vastayan mage, the combo move has basically ******* all her hype. View the full article
