  6. It’s been a turbulent few days for Palworld, to put it lightly. The game has been fraught with controversy as far back as its initial release, but never to this level: A looming Nintendo lawsuit now threatens to stall the game’s progress permanently, and has already done so in Japan. On some level, perhaps, players should have seen this coming. Palworld‘s elevator pitch always essentially boiled down to “Pokémon with guns,” and Nintendo is not exactly known for being lenient with perceived copyright infringement, to put it lightly. 13. Horror has lost something in recent years, in part because the fidelity of games has massively improved. In the 1990s you would be forced to fill in what you were seeing and experiencing with your imagination, making something far scarier than anything that was actually happening on screen. The most terrifying place to be is inside your imagination which is why classics like Silent Hill and Resident Evil remain compelling, so many years later. ***** the Spotlight is a game that understands this very well, with a retro aesthetic that tugs at the darkest recesses of your brain, and it's finally about to get its full release on Steam. 22. Games can become overly complicated very easily, the ******* to incorporate a wealth of features working at times to bog down the core concept of a project. This tendency can make even the best strategy games difficult to get into, great entries to the genre like Crusader Kings 3, Civilization 6, or Total War: Pharaoh offering a welcome level of complexity to veteran players but, especially in the case of the first game mentioned above, a steep learning curve for newcomers. Because of this, games that simplify genre design, boiling it down to its foundation, are more than welcome. One of the best recent examples of this approach to design is Thronefall, which has just announced that it's leaving Early Access on Steam very soon. Read the rest of the story... 23. Enlarge / The future's so bright, Mark Zuckerberg's gotta wear shades. (credit: Meta) [/url] Thus far, Meta's heavily money-losing Reality Labs division has been primarily focused on bulky virtual reality headsets (and some odd, display-free Ray-Ban branded sunglasses). So when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg pulled out a 100g pair of see-through, augmented-reality glasses at this year's Meta Connect keynote, it represented a bit of a new direction for the company. The early Orion AR glasses prototype Zuckerberg showed off today don't mean Meta will be ready to release a pair of consumer AR glasses any time soon. But the demo represents a new vision for lightweight, wide-ranging, see-through smartglasses that Zuckerberg calls "a glimpse of the future" and "the dream of Reality Labs." Not your average screen The core challenge of building a pair of comfortable augmented-reality glasses, Zuckerberg said, is that "they have to be glasses." That means no bulky headset (a la Quest), no wires (a la Apple Vision Pro), and a weight of less than 100 grams (compared to a full 515g for the Meta Quest 3). While there's a tiny battery and "custom silicon" in those light-weight glasses, Zuckerberg did admit that some processing is done in a "small puck" that connects wirelessly to the glasses themselves.
