Developers 2Awesome Studio are best known for 2D pixel art action games such as Aeon Drive and AK-xolotl, but currently all eyes are on their upcoming metroidvania game, Altered Alma. The last time we checked in on it, it was earlier this year at PAX East as part of publisher Critical Reflex's showcase, where it had some rather impressive action and some astonishing pixel art. But were other gamers impressed by it as well? If the game's recent Kickstarter campaign is any indication, the answer is "oh heck yes," as it raised a whopping 256,263, smashing its initial 40,000 several times over and reaching several socia media-based goals as well. One such goal involves a collaboration with fellow Spain-based indie developers The Game Kitchen, and now the world of Blasphemous will be crossing over to Altered Alma via free DLC as a gift, as seen in the trailer below. There's always something amusing whenever a developer's new game is almost the exact opposite of their previous, arguably best-known work in terms of tone. Developers YCJY Games are likely best known for Post Void, an extremely surreal and extremely fast arcade-style FPS that looked like a fever dream (as well as other fantastical games such as Sea Salt and The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human). And now here we have their newly-revealed next title, Keep Driving, which is an RPG about a cross-country road trip with vibes that are notably more peaceful and nostalgic. And while we have described that juxtaposition as amusing, it also results in something that looks quite interesting, as you can see in the reveal trailer below. View the full article

The Big Catch: Tacklebox is like Jak & Daxter if Jak grew some chest hair instead of that awful green goatee. It's Spyro the Dragon for people who know how to wavedash. At times, it is also Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy as a 3D platformer. The Big Catch: Tacklebox can feel aggravating, sometimes even mean, but it's also a genuinely superb, innovative 3D platformer. I've heard it takes north of eight hours to beat, and it's just the demo for the real game on the way. I'm probably going to play more of it after work... Read more.View the full article

In some major (and pretty surprising) news for Halo fans, Halo: Infinite is finally getting a third-person mode this November. 343 Industries announced the news on Friday during a Forge panel at the 2024 Halo World Championship. For those who aren't at the event, the announcement was also posted on X/Twitter, including a bit of work-in-progress footage of third-person mode in action: Experience a new way to play! 3rd Person Mode is coming to Halo Infinite this November [Hidden Content] — Halo (@Halo) October 4, 2024 As fans will know, this marks the first time a third-person mode has ever been officially offered in a Halo game. Senior community manager John "Unyshek" Junyszek and Skybox Labs senior software engineer Colin Cove offered a bit more information at the Halo World Championship panel, saying they'll be starting with third-person Firefight mode in a future update, "but we also have the ability to do in PvP and control it in Forge," per Cove. They clarified that third-person will be supported at the mode level and that, with Forge controls, modes can switch individual players (or all players) between first- and third-person perspective whenever desired. It's currently unclear if it will be available in campaign mode or restricted to multiplayer. While this is the first time third-person mode has been available on an official level, a number of mods have added it to the game over the years and have been largely well-received by the community. Halo Infinite first launched in 2021, receiving a number of new maps, modes, quality-of-life improvements, and other additions over the years. Some fans, however, had started to note a general lack of developer-made additional content for this year. With the Halo World Championship well underway, we wouldn't be surprised if more Halo-related announcements were made through the weekend.
