According to its ESRB rating, the upcoming fantasy sports game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will feature the word "sh*t" for some reason. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the next video game based on the incredibly popular Harry Potter franchise, an IP primarily aimed at children and teenagers. The books and movies have occasional swear words, but it's still odd that Quidditch Champions features the word "sh*t." View the full article
As the wait lengthens for Hollow Knight: Silksong, other Soulsy creature features are scurrying to fill the breach. We had Deviator last week - now, it's time for a bumper helping of the heebie-jeebies in the shape of Perennial Order. The title makes it sound like an eBay delivery of potted geraniums. The game festering beneath is actually a "plant horror" boss rusher with twin stick melee controls, unlockable "Instinct" abilities and one-hit deaths. In a gift to headline writers everywhere, the developers, four-person Gardenfiend Games, are calling it "Hollow Knight meets Titan Souls", and who am I to deny them? It's got one of those "painterly" art styles, too, though other words come to mind, such as "rotted" and "unhallowed" and "manky". It's out on 6th September. Okay, listen. The Roads To Power expansion coming to Crusader Kings III is focusing on the Byzantine Empire. But forget that. Because today developers Paradox revealed the ins and outs of another feature from the DLC that is way more exciting than some fusty old Greeks. It's called "landless adventurers" and it'll let you play as disgraced dirtbag travelling the world in a sort of medieval gig economy. You'll be making camp, gathering followers, taking random jobs from local rulers, and catching infectious ********* as you try to travel safely through war-torn regions. It sounds amazing. Sword of Convallaria is out and doing well, drawing in players with its tactical gameplay, classic RPG aesthetic, and loving approach to both narrative and musical score. But even with its many merits, the public review score for the game ******** mixed. This is due to two major reasons: the monetisation and progress blockers. This is because Sword of Convallaria is a gacha game! Tempting you to spend money is kinda the point, arguably more than making a fufilling gaming experience. Those upset about monetisation are strongly against such practices, whereas progress blockers come in the form of rechargable stamina preventing you from moving through the game when you run out. You can recover stamina naturally, sure. Or you could spend money. For many such complaints will be weird, because you knew what you were getting into when you downloaded the game. But, it's also worth noting that in recent years (in fact, probably since HoYoverse started making big-budget gachas aimed at wider western markets) that the harshness of such gacha mechanics has been softened considerably. Sword of Convallaria isn't the worst offender in the genre by any means, but if you compare it to the big hitters of the day, it's by no means the best either. Read more View the full article

Mountains and gravity aren't a great combination under normal circumstances, as anyone who's fallen off a cliff or seen a landslide can attest, but people will play with absolutely anything given half a chance. Find the right slope, terraform as necessary, and suddenly guaranteed ***** is an exciting ride and the chance of ****** or maiming drops to a manageable but nowhere-close-to-zero percentage. The first Descenders was a mountain biking sports arcade game where the object was to ride on the far edge of control, zipping down the trail past trees and rocks at a breakneck pace while sticking to the path only when it was convenient. Speed and tricks built up rep, earning new bikes and other gear, and while it's a great way to tear up a mountain there are more ways to get to the base than on two wheels. View the full article
