  2. The 2024 League of Legends World Championship is slowly coming to an end, with the final playoffs matches left to determine this year’s winners. While many players are following the competitive battleground, Riot is making major changes to the game in Patch 14.21. There’s a lot of updates in Patch 14.21, frankly. The biggest ones are arguably the rehaul of the Bounty system and dozens of changes to Swain, whose gameplay will look completely different. Besides that, almost 30 other League champions are seeing tweaks, alongside a few items and runes. View the full article
  3. BioWares upcoming gaming release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, offers players a new look into the beloved Dragon Age series. 4. Palworld is 2024's biggest gaming surprise. Although there was some early excitement online about the game with its "Pokemon with guns" moniker, nobody could have foreseen it selling three million copies in just two days and having over two million concurrent players on Steam at its peak. 5. It's been just over two years now since soon-to-depart CTO John Carmack told a Meta Connect audience about his vision for a super low-end VR headset that came in at $250 and 250 grams. "We're not building that headset today, but I keep trying," Carmack said at the time with some exasperation. On the pricing half of the equation, the recently released Quest 3S headset is nearly on target for Carmack's hopes and dreams. Meta's new $299 headset is a significant drop from the $499 Quest 3 and the cheapest price point for a Meta VR headset since the company raised the price of the aging Quest 2 to $400 back in the summer of 2022. When you account for a few years of inflation in there, the Quest 3S is close to the $250 headset Carmack envisioned. A new button on the underside of the Quest 3S lets you transition to pass-through mode at any time. Credit: Kyle Orland Unfortunately, Meta must still seriously tackle the "250 grams" part of Carmack's vision. The 514g Quest 3S feels at least as unwieldy on your face as the 515g Quest 3, and both are still quite far from the "super light comforts" Carmack envisioned. Add in all the compromises Meta made so the Quest 3S could hit that lower price point, and you have a cheap, half-measure headset that we can only really recommend to the most price-conscious of VR consumers. 6. The environments look like the bombed-out, post-apocalyptic ruins of Fallout 4's version of Boston. Combat meanwhile is slow-paced - the number of enemies seems low - but infused with the same oozing, dripping body horror characterized by Half-Life's headcrab zombies. It's not about feeling powerful, it's about survival. You clutch a revolver and try to contact the outside world - someone, anyone - using your puny shortwave radio. If you told me this was a first-person mod for one of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, at first glance, I'd be fooled. Two years since footage was last shared on its official channels, and two years since its creator posted on the formal social media account, the highly mysterious horror FPS game ILL is suddenly back from the *****. 10. LEGO Horizon Adventures has officially gone Gold, meaning that the game is ready to launch on November 14. 11. Owners of old AMD AM4 motherboards appear to have been given yet another upgrade option, despite AMD now being two generations into its newer AM5 socket, with the arrival of the Ryzen 5 5600XT, Ryzen 5 5600, and Ryzen 3 5300G. Although not officially unveiled yet, the new AMD Ryzen chips have appeared in motherboard CPU support listings and other leaks, showing that AMD is set to continue supplying new AM4 gaming CPUs for a while yet. What's particularly surprising about the apparently imminent arrival of new AMD AM4 CPUs is that the supply of some AM4 chips, such as the previous best gaming CPU entrant, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, appears to be drying up. So while plenty of CPU options remain for owners of AM4 motherboards, it's still surprising to see even more brand-new models announced. Read the rest of the story... 12. Open-world games shouldn't be a glorified checklist. Giving you the choice to explore at your own pace isn't an excuse to stuff every corner of a virtual world with map markers, menial tasks, and repeating mini-games. Far too many games these days use size as a crutch, but some know how to make large worlds engaging. The Axis Unseen is one such game. From a former Bethesda developer who worked on Skyrim and Fallout, it's out now, and if you act fast you can grab it at a discount. Read the rest of the story... 15. Amanda the Adventurer 2 leaves you in the dark throughout your investigation in the Kensdale Public Library. Just when you think you’ve got the hang of the difficult puzzles, you realize there are colorful secret tapes to find. But similar to the multiple endings, there’s no clear indication of how many tapes are hidden in the game, making it incredibly hard to find them. The secret tapes tell a live-action story of life before and during the nefarious acts of Hameln. I won’t pretend that I understand the ins and outs of the narrative, but through finding these colorful tapes, questions are answered and new mysteries appear. Can you make sense of the tapes we’ve found? Here are all Amanda the Adventurer 2 secret tape locations. View the full article
  16. Amanda the Adventurer 2 has kicked it up with its increased difficulty, making Silent Hill 2 look simple. Like the demo, your first act is to figure out how to open the bike lock if you want to investigate the cursed tapes. You may feel it’s impossible to see the first tape—but don’t worry, I’ve been there. After completing this puzzle on June 10, 2024, for the Amanda the Adventurer 2 demo, I went into the full release with (what I believed was) an unbreakable confidence. Reading through the note left by Sofie at the Kensdale Public Library front desk, I thought this would be another five-minute puzzle with a quick and easy solution. But I couldn’t be more wrong. Hours passed in my countless attempts to ****** open these pesky bike locks. Even my family got involved, but their efforts were futile. I swear I heard the monster inside the Library walls laugh at me at one point. View the full article
  17. The monkeys come out to play after helping Amanda start her day. The lesson of this cursed tape? Patience is a virtue. Amanda doesn’t have much self-restraint against Wooly, but you can make matters worse as you figure out how to solve the three wise monkeys puzzle in Amanda the Adventurer 2. After several viewings of the Let’s Practice Patience tape (and angering Amanda in the process), I overcomplicated the puzzle. Fascinated by the radio, I listened to the show intently, wondering if there would be any hidden lore inside. But this was merely a distraction from the task at hand. View the full article
  18. Hunt: Showdown 1896's been going through it in recent months. 21. I've been playing the PC game version of Undisputed since its earliest beta on Steam, and while I was happy to hear it was finally coming to consoles in its 1.0 release, it's also committing a major gaming sin that I think could actually have a more cascading effect on its success. 22. Paradox Interactive is home to some of the biggest grand strategy games out there. You can go medieval with Crusader Kings 3, take a step into the future with Stellaris, or go back to WW2 in Hearts of Iron 4. Paradox has made the historical grand strategy niche completely its own, but Victoria 3, the occasionally maligned sequel from 2022, ******** underappreciated. The 19-century-set sequel didn't quite shake the Earth like Paradox's other games, but over the last couple of years it's been quietly improving.
