  1. The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D release date has just been officially announced, along with the price and specs of the new chip. This eight-core gaming CPU is set to be the first new Ryzen 9000X3D chip to be released, picking up from where the Ryzen 7 7800X3D left off, and AMD says it's on average 20% faster than the new Intel Core Ultra 9 285K in games. If this new AMD chip delivers as promised, it's very likely to be the best gaming CPU when it comes out. The new 9800X3D not only has a faster clock speed than the acclaimed Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but AMD has also changed the position of the 3D V-cache chip, meaning it can run cooler. Meanwhile, the move to the new AMD Zen 5 architecture looks set to improve its performance further. Read the rest of the story... RELATED LINKS: Is a new dual-GPU AMD Radeon card coming? 4. Troy Baker is set to headline Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but Bethesda head Todd Howard originally wanted somebody else to play the legendary treasure hunter. Earlier this year, Bethesda Softworks and developer MachineGames finally revealed their tribute to the Indiana Jones franchise during Januarys Xbox Developer Direct livestream with an action-packed trailer of Indy swinging through ruins and beating down enemies with his trusty whip. Set between the first and third Indiana Jones movies, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle follows Indy as he scours the globe for a mystical secret in 1937. View the full article

  7. Pam Beasley actress Jenna Fischer and Angela Martin actress Angela Kinsey have revealed the names of Michael and Holly's kids who never made it into The Office themselves. The pair revealed on their Office Ladies podcast, which is essentially an insiders' commentary on each episode, that the kids originally had a scene in the show's finale before being cut. The two sons, named by Michael, are called Chebonshur and Lowshebin. Amy Ryan's Holly said in a talking head section that Michael's Steve Carell named the kids "based on the feeling he had when he first saw them." Holly was therefore intended to run for the final episode alongside Michael but Ryan's scheduling didn't allow it, and the scene was cut. The Office ended its nine season run in 2013 and as one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, though the universe is expanding again soon through a spin-off based on a midwestern local newspaper. It seemingly won't feature any of the original cast, however, and definitely not Carrell. "I will be watching but I will not be showing up," he said in May. "It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that. But I’m excited about it. It sounds like a great concept." Carell also said Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker actor Domhnall Gleeson, who will reportedly appear in the spin-off, was a great addition to the cast. Darryl Philbin actor Craig Robinson has expressed interest in returning for a reboot or continuation though, and Fischer said she'd be on board if The Office co-creator Greg Daniels was involved. Daniels is, working as co-creator of the spin-off alongside Michael Koman. The Office *** star Ricky Gervais did show up as David Brent in the U.S. series through a brief cameo, however, so perhaps anything is possible. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. 8. Microsoft shut down Redfall and Prey developer Arkane Austin in a sudden, devastating move earlier this year, and the studio founder has now called the move "*******" and "not a good decision." In an interview with PC Gamer, Arkane Studios founder and current head of WolfEye Studios Raphaël Colantonio was asked about the move. Colantonio, who left Arkane in 2017 to found WolfEye, had some thoughts to share: "I think if you look a little bit, it's obvious that Arkane Austin was a very special group of people that have made some cool things and that could pull it off again," he said "I think it was a decision that just came down to, 'We need to cut something.' Was it to please the investors, the stock market? They're playing a different game." PC Gamer asked Colantonio if he knew why Microsoft had made the decision to shutter the Austin studio. Colantonio didn't claim to know — he's been gone from the company since well before Microsoft acquired it, after all. The most logical theory, people have speculated, is due to the struggles of Arkane Austin-developed Redfall, but Colantonio didn't float that in the interview. It's not like, 'Doesn't matter, we'll just rehire.' No, try it... It doesn't work like this. "The rules that they play, we might not understand them. It's a different thing. It's hard to know why they did what they did...The only thing that I stand by is saying that the specific choice of ******** Arkane Austin, that was not a good decision." The interview continued with Colantonio expressing that recreating a similar team to Arkane Austin would be "impossible" or, at best, would "take forever." "When you have that magic of Harvey [Smith] and Ricardo [Bare] etc that all come together, it's a specific moment in time and space that just worked out this way, that took forever to reach. Those people together can really make magic. It's not like, 'Doesn't matter, we'll just rehire.' No, try it. That's what big groups do all the time. They try to just hire massively and overpay people to create those magic groups. It doesn't work like this. So to me, that was *******. But what do I know?" Arkane Austin was closed alongside Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Games. Arkane Lyon remained intact, and Tango Gameworks was acquired a few months later by Krafton. In a letter to staff at the time, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt ****** said the cuts were due to a "reprioritization of titles and resources" at the company. Microsoft had previously announced plans to cull 1,900 staff from its gaming workforce. The company's CEO, Satya Nadella, received a $30 million pay raise last year. 10. Image: AMD After bizarrely teasing a 9000-series X3D announcement last week, AMD is making it official today that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be available on November 7th. Priced at $479, the 9800X3D is a direct successor to the best gaming CPU on the market right now, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. There’s a lot to be excited about with this next-generation X3D chip, too. AMD is increasing the base clock speed up to 4.7GHz on the 9800X3D, with a max boost of 5.2GHz. Combined with an increase to a 120-watt TDP, this may well help improve productivity workloads — something the X3D chips have always fallen behind their non-X3D counterparts on. Image: AMD AMD claims its 9800X3D is on average 8 percent faster than the 7800X3D. The 9800X3D... Continue reading… View the full article

  20. It's quite possible Helldivers 2 might be my pick for the best game of 2024. It's easy to forget quite how much the bombastic co-op game took over popular culture at launch - especially with later problems such as balance concerns and the PSN account linking fiasco. 21. Today is the sixth anniversary of Deltarune, the episodic release "sequel" (sort of) to beloved indie darling Undertale. To celebrate the occasion, as well as Halloween, creator Toby Fox took to X/Twitter with an adorable illustration and some news: he's releasing Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 in 2025 "100%". I'm very eager to show you what we've made since 6 years ago. Chapter 3&4 will 100% come out in 2025. The specific time is still relying on localization and console porting. Please hear me clawing at the door trying to escape the shallow coffin I have been ******* in. — tobyfox (@tobyfox) October 31, 2024 Deltarune first came out in 2018 in a surprise launch, with the initial version of the game being released on PC for free as a strange application called "SURVEY PROGRAM" that was actually the first chapter of the turn-based RPG. It received subsequent releases under the name Deltarune on Nintendo Switch and PS4, and Chapter 2 was released also for free in 2021. Fox has previously stated that a third, fourth, and fifth chapter were in the works, and that he intended to release them all together as a single paid game alongside one and two; however, he later amended that to just chapters three and four due to the length of development time. The in-game menu has room for seven chapters total. Though seemingly not a direct sequel, Fox has described Deltarune as "intended for people who have completed Undertale" and as Undertale "parallel story." The game features many of the same cast of characters, though some in very different roles, and its music, design, and themes frequently make callbacks to Undertale. The name "Deltarune" itself is an anagram of "Undertale." However, Deltarune features a new protagonist, Kris, who finds themselves transported into a mysterious "Dark World" along with the school bully, Susie. Together with a familiar-looking goat creature named Ralsei, the three "Lightners" set out to close mysterious "Dark Fountains" that have sprung up all over the world, throwing off the balance between light and dark. Though we haven't yet reviewed what's available of Deltarune, we gave its predecessor Undertale a coveted 10/10 score, calling it a "masterfully crafted experience." 22. Baldur's Gate 3 players have downloaded more than 50 million mods in less than two months, including 10,000 that renamed Withers "Bone Daddy." Developer Larian Studios shared the milestone in an X/Twitter post, saying the feat had been achieved in the time since official modding support arrived via Patch 7 on September 5. This means traditional mods created outside of the Patch 7 modding tool aren't counted in the 50 million figure, so the actual number will be much, much higher. "Together, you've downloaded more than 50 million mods since Patch 7 introduced modding support," Larian said. "Apparently 10,000 of those downloads were you renaming Withers to Bone Daddy. So, uh, glad we could facilitate that." Modding the beloved Dungeons & Dragons based role-playing game appears to be snowballing in popularity, as only 15 million had been downloaded by October 1. More than double that amount has since been downloaded in basically the same amount of time. Mods released so far include one that adds real-time combat to the otherwise turn-based RPG and another that brought entire new maps to Faerûn, including the highly requested Avernus. Patch 7 otherwise added official content including an "absolutely metal" ending for Karlach and a hidden evil ending. Players will also be relieved to hear that it's not the final major Baldur's Gate 3 patch after all. In our 10/10 review of Baldur's Gate 3, IGN said: "With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur's Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs." 25. Image: Puzzmo The Weather Network can be a very useful website, but that’s mostly true when the weather is bad. So when the company began collaborating with the Hearst-owned puzzle platform Puzzmo, it had a specific goal: to get people coming to the site even when it’s nice out. “Why would you check the weather on a sunny day?” veteran game designer Zach Gage remembers asking himself. Eventually, the Puzzmo team came up with an answer in the form of Weather Memoku, an extremely chill game that combines elements of memory, sudoku, and, well, the weather. “A very important idea was: can we change checking the weather from being a thing you check off your to-do list, to being a chance to take a moment for yourself?” explains Gage. The game takes place on... Continue reading… View the full article
