After being dazzled by its trailers over the last few months, the time has finally arrived for Empire of the Ants to scuttle onto Steam. It's one of the most intriguing strategy titles I've seen in a long time, and it's gone pretty viral in the build up to launch thanks to its photorealistic visuals. However, on the day of its full release, it doesn't seem like it's setting the world alight. Read the rest of the story... If you want to go back to the original Dragon Age today, you'll need some help. Origins was made in the Eclipse engine, which had some long-standing bugs that never got patched and given there are "maybe 20 people left at BioWare" who understand how it works, aren't likely to ever be officially fixed. Unofficially, they've already been solved and all it takes is a ***** into the PC Gaming wiki and Nexus Mods to sort them out... Read more.View the full article
With the introduction of StarCraft 2 and StarCraft: Remastered to Xbox Game Pass, a whole new generation of gamers can now enjoy the pinnacle of real-time strategy games. For years, I've sat back and watched my favorite gaming genre slowly wither away into a husk of its former glory, with SC2 and its expansions standing as the defining game in the genre perfecting the mechanics since the release of the original StarCraft, all the way back in 1998. Listen closely: do you hear that sound? It's the cry of hundreds of beleaguered Dino Crisis fans, mourning the revival that could've been. Adi Shankar, the creator of Netflix's upcoming ****** May Cry show and a filmmaker with a strong reputation for video game anime adaptations (Castlevania, Captain Laserhawk), revealed some interesting information in a recent X/Twitter post. Specifically, when he first started talking to Capcom years ago, his sights weren't actually set on ****** May Cry. He began by sharing some quick thoughts on each of the three Dino Crisis games, praising the first two while conceding that the third "lost that magic" as it headed off Earth. "Why am I telling you this?" he continued. "Because when I first went to Capcom in 2017, my mission was clear: I wanted to bring Dino Crisis back. But in an awesome twist of fate, they sold me ****** May Cry instead! I didn’t think DMC would even be on the table." 1. Dino Crisis 1 nailed the survival horror vibe, blending the tension of Resident Evil with the sheer ******* of being hunted by dinosaurs—perfect. 2.Dino Crisis 2 took it up a notch with fast-paced action & incredible level design. 3.Sadly, Dino Crisis 3 lost that magic—it took… [Hidden Content] — Adi Shankar (@adishankarbrand) November 6, 2024 It's an almost comically tragic twist of fate for Dino Crisis enthusiasts, who have long awaited another installment in the survival series created by Resident Evil's Shinji Mikami. "Like it’s cool ****** May Cry fans can eat but **** *****. Dino Crisis fans stay in sad I guess," bemoaned one X/Twitter user. The last mainline Dino Crisis game came out all the way back in 2003, and rumors have swirled for years about a potential fourth game. There are a few reasons not to hold your breath, though: for one, Mikami said earlier this year that the popularity of Monster Hunter doesn't leave a lot of room for another Dino Crisis entry. Plus, Capcom recently tried its hand at another dinosaur-focused game, Exoprimal, a multiplayer title that stopped adding new content just a year after its launch. Still, hope for a revival in anime form isn't completely extinct just yet — even if it's a little thin. While clarifying that he's currently committed to a "very long-term plan" for ****** May Cry, Shankar added, "But yes, one day perhaps I usually use my powers to resurrect Dino Crisis." ****** May Cry, at least, is still set for an April 2025 release date. For more, check out my profile of Shankar last year, where we talked his Captain Laserhawk for Ubisoft and Netflix and much more. Confirming previous rumors, Variety reports that Amazon will be moving ahead with producing a TV series based on the popular Mass Effect video game franchise. The writing and production staff involved might not inspire confidence from fans, though. The series' writer and executive producer is slated to be Daniel Casey, who until now was best known as the primary screenwriter on F9: The Fast Saga, one of the late sequels in the Fast and the Furious franchise. He was also part of a team of writers behind the relatively little-known 2018 science fiction film Kin. Karim Zreik will also produce, and his background is a little more encouraging; his main claim to fame is in the short-lived Marvel Television unit, which produced relatively well-received series like Daredevil and Jessica Jones for Netflix before Disney+ launched with its Marvel Cinematic Universe shows. I first played Taiko no Tatsujin in an arcade (in Japan, because I am very cool), where it's controlled by hitting a recreation of an actual taiko drum. Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival is out now via Steam, where it offers over 70 songs to drum through, and a subscription service through which to unlock over 700 more.
