As a few of you might know, each Sunday at 4pm GMT I run Booked For The Week - a regular chat with a selection of cool industry folks about what they're reading, what they're hoping to read next, and what books they recommend. The very secret goal of the column is for the guests to name every book ever written. It's a task every single one has failed miserably at with two notable exceptions. One was Dan Griliopoulos, who listed 400 books in a document before he got bored and gave up - a heroic, if ultimately futile effort. The other was Warren Spector back in November, who not only gave me the longest and most detailed reply I'd had before or since, but also followed up several times to add more books to the list. "Oh, and one last thing..." teased the narration for yesterday's Like A Dragon Direct showcase on Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, before announcing that the RPG will be getting New Game+ mode as part of a free post-launch update. It then cut to Majima and his crew making celebratory noises on deck. This follows last year's Infinite Wealth catching some backlash for the decision to lock the mode behind a £15/€15/$15 edition upgrade. Unrelated, but I've decided to stop putting angry spiders through your letterbox every morning. I know, I know. Come on now. Hero is such a strong word. Read more View the full article
Jan. 10’s LoLdle quote had a pretty helpful hint right out of the gate. But even then, it took me double-digit attempts to correctly guess which League of Legends champ said this voice line. The only way you’d have a real shot at getting this voice line figured out in one turn is by having played the champion before, as the quote is relatively vague and could apply to multiple choices. Even if you have played this character, the champion that says this line doesn’t have the most stand-out voice, so you might be guessing for a while. View the full article
The helmet in My Summer Car is a great item available on the desk in the bedroom at home upon starting a new game. That reduces the chance of death from a vehicle during a ******, but for some players, the danger is more exciting than the safety it provides. While you are required to wear the helmet during certain parts of the game, such as police checkpoints and the Rally Spring Race, players have a hard time removing it after putting it on, no matter how many times they smash the F key. Every game engine has its defining, instantly recognizable quirk. When you think of Rockstar's RAGE, you picture the flailing, floppy hit reactions from GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2. With Bethesda's Creation Engine, it's the eerily blank faces of Skyrim and Fallout. The CryEngine set your PC on fire. And then there's Source and its 2015 successor Source 2. For me, Valve's engine will always be synonymous with the same thing: extremely dramatic, slapstick ragdolls. Shoot a Combine trooper with Half-Life 2's crossbow and they'll fly through the air like a giant, fleshy balloon - they look like those inflatable stick guys outside used car lots. Built with Source 2, Counter-Strike 2 has recently inherited the same, trademark body physics, but alongside tweaking Train, Valve has just toned them right down. Read the rest of the story... One or two lumps of annoyance in your morning coffee? Okay, here's one. You'll need to link to a PlayStation Network account to play The Last Of Us Part II on PC, say Sony. The requirement was reported by Video Games Chronicle , and sure enough, the Steam page for the "Remastered" version of the third-person ******* fighter includes a footnote in the game description that confirms it in plain language - "Account for PlayStation Network required". For a lot of people this is a minor nuisance, for others it more likely means that the game won't be on ***** in your country at all. Sony's reasons for enforcing the requirement remain obscure.
