Marvel Rivals developer and publisher NetEase Games stated that players who continue to mod the game in any way will risk a permanent ban from playing the hit team shooter. NetEase Games reiterated its stance that any modifications to Marvel Rivals, from cosmetic hero mods to advantageous add-ons, go against the game's terms of service. View the full article
****** Ops 6 already has three fun new Zombies maps to choose from, but a fourth is on the way and could be arriving sooner rather than later. Today, Treyarch teased how it would be sharing “details on our next map” as part of 115 Day, a yearly celebration of Call of Duty’s Zombies mode, which originated with Treyarch’s Nazi Zombies mode in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War. Warframe‘s 1999 update lets you build relationships with members of the Hex—and, once Dec. 31 rolls around, you can either remember them going into the new year, or forget about them altogether. This choice is not permanent. Due to 1999’s cyclical nature, you’ll have plenty of options to remember or forget your companions depending on what you’d like from the game. Regardless, your standing and rank with the Hex Syndicate will never reset, and the calendar will always flip to January 1999. View the full article
Photo by Chris Welch / The Verge Another day, another announcement from Nintendo that isn’t the next Switch. Today the company revealed that its alarm clock, Alarmo, will be available at select retailers starting this March. The announcement includes the US, ***, and Europe. [/url] The $99 alarm clock launched late last year, but is currently only available to those with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Today’s news opens that up to the larger public. The motion-controlled device lets users turn it off simply by getting up, though in my experience, that functionality wasn’t much use if you share a bed. It also includes a number of sounds and themes based on Nintendo properties, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through a recent update. The news comes the same week that Nintendo is widely expected to detail its next console, which could happen on January 16th. It also follows a series of other announcements in recent months from the company. Most recently, Nintendo announced that a Lego Game Boy was in the works, which was preceded by announcements covering a museum, music service, and a test for a mysterious MMO. View the full article

I've got a much earlier edition of game deals for you today. Why? Because I have to head in to Publisher X to play several hours of Game Y. (Don't worry, you'll read all about it soon in article Z.) All that being said, let's skip the preamble, get scrolling, and dive into the best gaming deals going today! In retro news, I've cooked a bin chicken feast for the 32nd birthday of Streets of Rage 2, a seminal beat 'em up and massive personal favourite I played the cartridge pins off. Basically, you and a mate needed to go ever rightward on an ultra-violent rescue mission as one of two loose cannon cops, a spandex-clad wrestler, or the most '90s kid ever (think: backwards hat, rollerblades). Not only were this sequel's fisticuffs more technical than its rival to beat, Final Fight, Streets of Rage 2 boasted one of the most jam-pumping EDM soundtracks of its era. Seriously. Though a yearly endeavor, it appears Riot Games has truly hit the home run with their latest League cinematic, with the 2025 season trailer already miles above the previous season’s in terms of viewership, boosted by Arcane and its sheer quality. Compared to 2024’s Still Here trailer, which amassed an impressive 131 million views over the course of the last year, 2025’s Welcome to Noxus trailer has already shot up to around 170 million, despite being out for less than a week. The new season’s cinematic showcases numerous characters and is wrought with references to popular media, including Riot’s own Arcane series, whose style and tone it appropriates with stellar effect. It grants us valuable insight into the characters of Trundle and Darius, the Noxus mentality, gives us Eyes Wide Shut-inspired shots of Katarina and Elise, and simply breathes life into the world of Runeterra more than any other Riot cinematic. The incredible accompanying track “Bite Marks” by TEYA also adds to the cinematic’s quality and gives it replay value if for no other reason than the song. View the full article
The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series is a big mix of crime, drama, and humor. There are plenty of games that all sound slightly different, which can make it hard for new players to know where to start. The story takes place in a made-up part of Tokyo called Kamurocho and follows the lives of yakuza members. For new players, a popular recommendation is to start with Yakuza 0, which tells the backstory of key characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. However, starting from here means taking a lot of playtime before getting to the modern games. View the full article

t the end of 2024, I got to try one last hour-long preview of Hyper Light Breaker ahead of its early access launch on January 14. It does the thing: This is a great action game that nails the look and feel of Hyper Light Drifter in a 3D open world. Now there are two big questions remaining: How is it as a roguelike you play again and again, and how will it come together over the course of early access?.. Read more.View the full article

For a time the term "multimedia" was one of the hottest buzzwords in the computer software industry. A number of individuals and firms staked both their futures and careers on the creation of bespoke interactive experiences, often in the service of marketing more established businesses and brands. Neverwinter Nights came out in 2002 and received an enhanced edition in 2018. In 2024, that should really be it, but there's something special about Bioware's second dip into the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The energy from the game's community is strong enough that, based largely on the work of "unpaid software engineers," the game received a new patch last week. Neverwinter Nights (NN) Enhanced Edition (on Steam and GOG) now has anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering built in, major improvements to its networking code and performance, and more than 100 other improvements. As noted by PC Gamer, NN was originally built for single-core CPUs, so while it may seem odd to seek "major" improvements to performance for a 23-year-old RPG, it is far from optimized for modern systems. NN received a similar fan-led patch, described as "a year-long love effort" by community developers, in 2023. Read full article Comments View the full article
The next freebie on the Epic Games Store is an excellent business simulator that turns you into an old-school oil tycoon. Each week, the Epic Games Store gives out one of the games in its vast library absolutely free. These range from remastered classics to underrated indies to, every so often, full-priced major releases. The games remain free for a week each, and once the player claims one, it's theirs to keep as long as they maintain an Epic Games account - even if it's later taken off the store, it'll still appear in their library. Riot plans to change the League of Legends’s first blood requirement for the Feats of Strength, which incentivize players to play for more objectives, two days after its release. League’s Noxus-themed season introduced the Feats of Strength mechanic, where players can focus on three main objectives to earn unique upgrades to their Triumphant boots, making it a win-condition for many players. These three objectives include first blood, the first one to take down a turret, and slaying three epic monster camps first. View the full article
Marvel Rivals' Season 1 is officially underway, with the first half of its content having been dropped on January 10, 2025. Included with Season 1 is two new maps, both finding their setting in a vampire-infested New York City. Sanctum Sanctorum, the home of Dr. Strange, is the smaller of the two, and is being reserved exclusively for arcade game modes. While the map has more limited accessibility and a smaller scope, it points towards an exciting future for Rivals' arcade game mode. View the full article
The latest update for Call of Duty: Warzone appears to be causing some fresh problems for the battle royale game. Call of Duty: Warzone has been a big hit since it first released in 2020. Marvel Rivals fans just spent their first weekend with new playable characters Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, but some are having trouble taking Reed Richards as seriously as the other heroes. The stretchy scientist made his debut with the launch of Season 1 on Friday, January 10, bringing his elastic skills to the battlefield as one of Marvel rivals' first post-launch heroes. His powers as a Duelist allow him to take long swings at one or multiple enemies at a time, while also giving him the option to expand his body and take on more of a tank role. Players are still piecing together how to best use Mister Fantastic against the rest of the roster, but until then, most people just can’t get over how goofy he can be. [Hidden Content] — Wong Updates (@WongUpdates) January 12, 2025 A character who can contort his body into strange shapes carries a lot of meme potential. You might have already seen some of the many comparisons to One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, for example, thanks to Mister Fantastic’s Elastic Strength ability. It’s a bit that’s already gained enough traction for the modding community to create a One Piece custom skin despite NetEase cracking down on modding recently. Turning into a rubber bodybuilder is funny on its own, though some fans, including X/Twitter user @BOOMERANG_117, tapped into their creative side by imagining Marvel Rivals’ Reed Richards without his new beard. It's all slightly unsettling, but few of the character's elements have attracted jokes like his Reflexive Rubber ability. It’s a useful tool that can be used to turn an enemy’s damage against them, and it also happens to look almost too silly in motion. Using the move sees Mister Fantastic grow to the size of a refrigerator, so you can imagine what walking around like that might look like. "Ngl I think Mr. Fantastic's design encapsulates everything great about this game," one Reddit user said. "He's stupid and silly and cheesy and the game just lets him be that and is better for it." One of the most highly praised Bethesda games of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 generation, Dishonored 2, has been surprisingly updated out of the blue, though it's not the update many fans were hoping for. Dishonored 2 was released at the tail end of 2016 and follows its beloved 2012 predecessor, adding a new playable protagonist, Emily Kaldwin. Missions like The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack in the Slab stood out to gamers with their unique gameplay mechanics and intricate environments. View the full article
There have been countless Stardew Valley-like games in recent years looking to tap into the co-op charm and coziness of ConcernedApe's masterpiece. However, few look quite as similar to Stardew as this new farming life sim. Dreaming Isles has an almost identical visual style and UI, the ability to forge relationships and romances with NPCs, and of course the ability to run and grow your own farm. However, there's one core difference - it adds in a piratey twist with some surprisingly in-depth naval combat. Read the rest of the story... View the full article
