There’s a lot you can do with a third dimension. Texture. Nativity dioramas. Spheres. Hyper Light Breaker, in expanding from the 2D action of Hyper Light Drifter, chooses to almost entirely remake itself as a free-roaming roguelike, trading post-apocalyptic pixel art for big proc-gen vistas and even more acrobatic swordplay. Its technical ambition, sadly, ends up undermined by the emptiness of its world, the lack of exploratory pleasure that Drifter nurtured so well, and combat that’s more faithful to the original yet doesn’t quite adapt well enough to 3D. Not to mention it has more than its fair share of early access bugs and, especially in the early stages, balancing missteps. Read more View the full article

Are there any active Arknights Endfield codes? Hypergryph's upcoming sci-fi RPG has finally entered closed beta, and it's already clear we're going to need a little help expanding the human footprint on the moon Talos-II, defeating the powerful Aggeloi threat as we go. If the original Arknights is anything to go by, Endfield players will also be treated to redeemable freebies here and there. Shifting away from the mobile-only tower defense approach it took with Arknights, Hypergryph has built Arknights Endfield into a stunning open-world game with robust base-building elements. Alongside extra resources to help you create the ultimate industrial complex, we expect a wedge of Oroberyl, the game's premium currency, to arrive with many of the codes - Endfield is a gacha game, after all. Monsters have arrived on the Fortnite island, and although Godzilla is the star of the show, he’s not the only one lurking around. If you’re lucky, you can also catch a glimpse of King Kong, but he’s especially tricky to find. The giant monster is certainly a sight you don’t want to miss out on if you’re hoping to experience everything Chapter Six, season one has to offer. He certainly won’t be around forever, so if you’re hoping to see him while you can, here’s how to find King Kong in Fortnite. View the full article
An industry analyst has suggested that Rockstar Games may increase the price of Grand Theft Auto 6 from the usual $70 up to $80 or even $100, which would then allow the rest of the market to increase their prices too. Grand Theft Auto 6 is undoubtedly the most highly-anticipated video game of the past decade and with rumors suggesting the title could have a ludicrous budget, fans are growing concerned that it could be the first title to charge more than the usual price point for a triple-a video game. Personally, I always I preferred The Elder Scrolls series great outdoors to its dungeons, portals, and planes of Oblivion, but if you were looking to take on some of Tamriel's biggest baddies (giants and mammoths aside) the chances were that those were exactly the kinds of places you'd be heading. Which is why Carved Brink, a new mod from the team behind last year's massive Project AHO, could be exactly your cup of tea. The mod introduces two brand-new areas to the fantasy RPG - the deadric plane of Peyrite, and the Faceted Stones, a previously unknown part of Oblivion. The Faceted Stones were previously inhabited by the Snow Elves/Falmer (who were a pretty major part of why I hated all those dungeons), but the floating stone islands are now mostly inhabited by a race of goblins. As well as the new areas, the mod comes with plenty of fully voice-acted characters, as well as new items, a custom soundtrack, and a unique teleportation spell to help you maneuver between stones. There's a subreddit with just under 290k members called 'Birds Aren't Real', which is dedicated to humorous stories and images trying to 'prove' birds aren't the lovely, feathery, nest-building vertebrates we all know and love - they're actually a conspiracy. Of some sort. Now, that very 'theory' has come to Tamriel's frostiest region, thanks to a new Skyrim mod of the same title. Birds Aren't Real by creator SkylerModder unveils a troubling 'fact' to your Dovahkiin - "The Aedra have been lying to you. The Daedra have been lying to you. Mortals have been lying to you. M'aiq has been lying to you. This mod will show you the truth. Birds aren't real." Gulp. 'But how?' you might be wondering. Well, the mod simply tinkers with all of Skyrim's chickens and hawks, altering their sounds effects, "racial settings, and loot" to reveal they're actually just robots. That's right - go take a peep at a fallen bird's loot and you'll discover they're just made up of things like bent Dwemer scrap metal, Dwarven oil, and soul gems. So, pretty much like those horrible Dwarven Spider automatons that populate Dwemer mines and ruins. ****. Read the rest of the story... If regular Dungeons and Dragons is just a bit too predictable, safe, and square for your tastes, may I recommend The Painted Wastelands? Written by Chris Willett and illustrated by Tim Molloy, this hex-crawl mini-setting has an atmosphere that's halfway between the Outlands in Planescape and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, carried by vibes that are equal parts Star Wars and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busche is reportedly leaving EA-owned BioWare. Eurogamer reported that Busche, who was game director on Dragon Age: The Veilguard from February 2022 to its launch last year, is set to leave the studio in the coming weeks. IGN has asked EA for comment. There have been questions over Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s success ever since its release in October last year. Eurogamer reported that while Busche is leaving the studio, it is otherwise unaffected by any other changes. Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after a stint at Maxis, where she helped design the systems on various The Sims projects. As part of IGN’s article, ‘How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade,’ we detailed the game’s near decade-long development, which included a major reset that saw it shift from the skeleton of a multiplayer game with repeatable quests, a tech base, and the outline of a story, to a full-blown single-player RPG. Busche, as director, helped get Dragon Age: The Veilguard over the line during its final few years of development. Eurogamer reports that Busche's exit from BioWare is unrelated to Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s commercial performance. EA has yet to say whether sales and revenue met or exceeded expectations. The company is expected to report its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4. Meanwhile, BioWare has confirmed it has no plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC. Rather it has turned its attention to Mass Effect 5, which the studio has teased at various points over the years but is yet to properly reveal. In August 2023, coincidentally the same month that Larian’s all-conquering Dungeons & Dragons RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 released, BioWare laid off around 50 workers, including longtime veterans like narrative designer Mary Kirby, who had been with BioWare since Dragon Age’s inception. At a higher level, the layoffs came amid an internal shakeup at EA that effectively resulted in it being split into sports and everything else. That summer, rumors spread within BioWare that it was about to be acquired. Star Wars: The Old Republic was allowed to go third-party, ostensibly so that BioWare could focus on Mass Effect and Dragon Age. BioWare’s rollercoaster ride continued through Dragon Age’s reveal in 2024. Reactions to the initial reveal trailer were negative, sending the studio scrambling to release an early gameplay tease just days later to placate fans. The name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard wasn’t particularly well-received either. After that, though, impressions were generally positive. Dragon Age fans are now left wondering, will BioWare be given the chance to follow up The Veilguard with another Dragon Age sequel? Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Although Elden Ring was 2022's GOTY and one of the biggest releases of the 2020s, FromSoftware has confirmed that there are currently no plans to make a direct sequel, despite many other projects currently being worked on. This is after a lengthy battle to secure the sole rights to the IP from their publisher, Bandai Namco, who previously co-owned the rights, which concluded shortly before the release of Shadow of the Erdtree. That doesn't mean that FromSoftware isn't doing anything with the IP; however, announcing the spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign at the 2024 Game Awards. View the full article

It's always pleasing when something comes across my desk that immediately catches the eye, and Death Howl is a perfect example. This new game from three-person developer The Outer Zone, published by Frostpunk's 11 Bit Studios, brings together Nordic mythology, the deckbuilding of Slay the Spire, the positional tactics of Into the Breach, and the stunning world and monster design of soulslikes such as Elden Ring. The result is a gorgeous, highly stylized tale of grief where you face off against fearsome foes in strategic, grid-based battles, and you can try it very soon. Read the rest of the story... Three-person Danish team The Outer Zone and Frostpunk creators 11-bit studios have announced Death Howl, a very gloomy soulslike deck-builder set in a "stone-age Nordic-inspired" open world that consists of biomes with names like "the Forest of Howling Shadows". Lots of howling round these parts. You play a mother, Ro, whose son has been claimed by the Grim Reaper, or whatever they had instead of the Grim Reaper back then - this was, I think, prior to the invention of scythes? And cards? Anyway, while searching for Ro's son, you'll take part in grid- and turn-based battles against a regular cauldron of unspeakables, including disembodied raven heads and what appears to be a huge pair of subterranean lungs. Here's a trailer. Read more View the full article
