  1. Each year, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) release the results of their State Of The Game Industry Survey, which collects responses from over 3000 developers. The 13th annual survey - which you can find in full here - queries respondents on topics including layoffs, generative AI, the live service *****, and funding. As is the nature of our times, it's a big grim salad with a few bright crouton sprinklings. From the report's introduction, which does not mention croutons even once: Read more View the full article
  2. Bethesda Game Studios has released a brand-new January 2025 update for Fallout 76, designed to deploy stability improvements across all platforms and provide even more fixes to the West Virginia region of Appalachia. Fallout 76 was released in 2018 and serves as a prequel to past entries, set in 2102 where players control a Vault 76 resident who ventures outside to re-colonize the open world. 3. Updated Jan. 22, 2024: We added new codes! We all got used to anime tower defense titles on Roblox, but what happens when your units are your favorite cartoon characters, such as SpongeBob and Patrick? It sounds cute, but it’s far from easy. That’s why you should use SpongeBob Tower Defense codes to get helpful freebies. View the full article
  4. No matter what it looks like mountains aren't trying to kill you. Leave them alone and absolutely nothing bad will happen, with the disclaimer that volcanoes are a whole other thing. The rocky spires, hidden caves, dark crevasses, and sheer cliffs aren't forcing anyone to explore their secrets, much less wait for a lovely day to race down them at full speed. Mountains are only as dangerous as the person risking their life on them makes it, and for the really good times that's incredibly dangerous indeed. View the full article
  5. With Indiana Jones & The Great Circle showing up and already sweeping award nominations, it is bucking a gaming trend among the franchise that until now felt fairly impossible. There have been a number of Indiana Jones video games, ranging from arcade games, to a graphic adventure game, to the well-beloved LEGO games. However, not all of them have stood the test of time, and for a long time, a critically well-received action game with a solid story seemed impossible. View the full article
  6. The New York Game Awards 2024 has arrived and, alongside honoring Remedy Entertainment creative director Sam Lake, the show saw Astro Bot become the big winner of the night as it took home Game of the Year, Best Music, and Best Kids Game. While Astro Bot led the way with three wins, there were many other incredible games and people honored in the other 10 categories, including Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The highly praised DLC for Elden Ring was the only other game to win multiple awards as it emerged victorious in the Best World and Best DLC categories. Other highlights included Simone De Rochefort and Clayton Ashley winning the Knickerbocker Award for Best Games Journalism (The same one IGN's Rebekah Valentine won in 2022!) for their work on The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft, Troy Baker winning Best Acting in a Game for his performance as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and UFO 50 winning Best Indie Game. You can check out the full list of the winners and nominees of the New York Game Awards 2025 below and see how they compare to IGN's Awards in 2024! 10. Finding and installing cyberware is the main mechanic in Cyberpunk 2077 for making each player's version of V different. Cyberware can apply to all sorts of places across the body, from the hands to the skin to parts of the brain, and each slot has multiple options for enhancing the physical and digital capabilities of the protagonist. The options for cyberware have increased since the game's release, especially with the 2.0 update that fully overhauled Cyberpunk's system. View the full article

The annual Golden Raspberry Awards, probably better known as the Razzies, has announced its nominations for the worst in film in 2024, and it's perhaps not a surprise that Joker: Folie à Deux is in the lead with seven nominations. 19. There's a certain degree of predictability to the metroidvania genre. The opening area is the part where the story takes a moment to emphasise how alone I am, and then makes me do a bit of vanilla jumping and attacking while I pass by all the interesting places I can't go yet but will inevitably have to revisit in a few hours time. I'll see some obviously open passageway that's just a little too high for me to reach and I'll sigh, wondering if this is one of those games where I'll eventually get up there with a double jump, or if it's one of those games where I'll learn how to wall kick instead... 21. Season 7 of Diablo 4 is finally upon us, and judging by early player reactions, its witchcraft theme, new seasonal storyline, and fresh activities are being well received. If you've long sar on the sidelines, understandably daunted by what can be quite a complex RPG to learn, then a new free week of Diablo 4 may be the perfect time to try it. Oh, and you can use the very cool Spiritborn class, which is normally exclusive to owners of the Vessel of Hatred expansion only, for free as well. Read the rest of the story... 22. It's a glorious hump day of hot discounts galore. Cases in points: great prices for Bravely Default II, Tekken 8, and Miles Morales Ultimate. I also have a lot of time for The Surge going for a mere 3 bucks on Xbox. Pretty great sci-fi Soulslike, so absolutely sacrifice the price of a coffee for a play of it. In retro news, it's been 16 years since we (repeatedly and hilariously) flung ourselves down hills and into the Hall of Meat in Skate 2. This second entry in the series was a pretty phenomenal upgrade over the OG and cemented the franchise as a proper threat to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater empire. Needless to say, I'm still jonesing mighty hard for the 'Skate 4' spiritual successor/F2P reimagining.
