  1. South of Midnight is an upcoming Soulslike by Compulsion Games, creators of Contrast and We Happy Few. A Southern Gothic fantasy featuring a fantastical journey populated by massive monsters that draw on Southern folklore, it's one of the more unique-looking takes on the Soulslike formula to appear in recent days. It features a distinct, stop-motion inspired art style, intricately designed creatures, a blues-inspired soundtrack, and what appears to be some very satisfying platforming and combat. 2. Palworld has released a new set of Spring Festival skins for five different Pals as part of a new update for the monster-catching survival game. Update v0.4.14, which also includes a number of balance adjustments and bug fixes, is already the second update to Palworld released in January 2025, showing what looks to be the start of big things in the game's second year since its early access launch. 3. Genshin Impact has officially revealed the banner characters for Version 5.4, as Mizuki, Sigewinne, Furina, and Wriothesley will be featured on the Event Banners for the duration of the patch. While Yumemizuki Mizuki is expected to be the sole star of the update, Version 5.4 has some important reruns for the cast of Fontaine. As one of the best Support characters in Genshin Impact, Furina is expected to draw plenty of interest – especially from newcomers who only recently started their journey in Teyvat. 4. Submachine guns are widely considered the most consistent and best primary weapons in Destiny 2, but finding one that’s good for both PvE and PvP is tough. Fear not, Guardian: The all-in-one solution exists in the form of the Unending Tempest. Unending Tempest is a 600 RPM Stasis submachine gun available from the Crucible, and it has it all. It has Headstone to synergize with Stasis builds in PvE, and if you missed out on a good Multimach CCX, there are some decent PvP options, too. View the full article
  5. An extremely rare Mew Pokémon card has been revealed, but the amount of fans lucky enough to get their hands on it is staggeringly low—and it’s only available to claim in a single country. China is growing rapidly in the Pokémon market since a long-awaited debut in mainland China back in October 2022, and the past few months have seen an acceleration of exclusive products. Perhaps accordingly, the latest promo exclusive to the country will be extremely rare. The limited-edition Mew ex promo is being released to celebrate the 151 set, which is getting additional exclusive artworks in China, but only 1,510 copies will be given away through lotteries—and there’s plenty of hoops to jump through. 6. One of the cutest creatures in Stardew Valley are the Junimos, tiny forest spirits that take over abandoned buildings and help The Farmer improve things around Pelican Town. While these adorable multicolored spirits are initially only seen in the Community Center, players can later bring the Junimos back to the farm by befriending the Wizard and building them a home. By unlocking the Junimo Hut, players can work with Junimos, who will harvest crops all over the farm every day before returning to their homes. View the full article

  8. After the inauguration of President Donald Trump, the internet found itself buzzing with chatter about Nazi-killing video games. It seems that when reality gets unsettling, gamers know exactly where to turn: punching, shooting, and creatively demolishing digital fascists. On Jan. 22, a post titled “Best games where you fight Nazis?” popped up on r/gaming and quickly gained traction, amassing over 1,200 comments. The suggestions poured in fast, with one user leading the charge by recommending the new Indiana Jones game. “You fight some Nazis there,” they said, sparking a thread of lively discussion. Quickly followed by, “Italian fascists too,” and another Redditor highlighting the short mission for the “final piece of the Axis triforce.” View the full article
  9. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is one heck of a mixed bag—receiving a spread of good and bad praise from critics, some resentment from its fans, and apparently falling far from the mark financially. It's also done now, with no plans for major DLC in the pipeline—sort of a first for the series, overall... Read more.View the full article
  10. Assassin's Creed Shadows is taking a very different direction overall than what Assassin's Creed Mirage did, but there's at least one area where the newest title received direct inspiration during development. The two games were handled by separate studios at Ubisoft, so while the development cycles had a lot of overlap, most of the work for each game was done independently. When it comes to the quest log structure, however, Mirage's influence on Shadows is evident. View the full article
  11. How do you use the Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades? You know what they say: two blades are better than one. Okay, so people don't usually say that, but when it comes to slaying monsters, the dual blades can be a deadly option for agile hunters. You're going to need to be an adept fighter to handle the potential damage output from this Monster Hunter Wilds weapon. The Dual Blades are inherently an aggressive weapon set, forgoing all defensive options to deal as much damage as possible in the multiplayer game. Once the ball starts rolling, you can take things up a notch in Monster Hunter Wilds by utilizing ****** and Archdemon Mode to tear into the hearts of your enemies. Here's everything you need to know about the Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades, including its moveset and a breakdown on how these weapons are best used. Read the rest of the story... 13. My favourite genre of YouTuber is: "person who hyperfixates on one mundane detail of a blockbuster video game and gets strangely poetic about it". When you offer me a five-hour video essay about an obscure adventure game from 1998, I will hide in the closet. But if you idly wonder where the rivers in Skyrim go, I will follow along dutifully like a baby elephant. This is how I ended up spending much of my afternoon watching David Cage characters ********. One video creator decided to painstakingly count every instance of playable **** time in cinematic adventure game Heavy Rain. This is vital work. This is important work. 14. Despite not selling as well as some other Bethesda titles, Dishonored 2 may have saved Arkane Studios, according to a former designer for the company. The sequel to 2012's stealth action RPG Dishonored is one of the most highly praised games of its time. Ultimately, though, Dishonored 2 made a big enough impression on players to make up for its less-than-stellar financial performance. View the full article

  16. Frostpunk 2 isn't one of those sequels that simply re-tread old ground with a few new bells and whistles. Instead, it's a game that significantly expands upon the solid foundation laid by the original. 17. A previously unannounced change to new Nvidia graphics cards such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 might make it harder to keep an eye on unusual GPU temperature spikes. With the new RTX 50-series GPUs, gamers can seemingly no longer check GPU hot spot temperatures, with Nvidia suggesting the data "isn't relevant" for gamers anyway. With less temperature data available, gamers with the best graphics card could now find it harder to spot overheating on the GPU die. Nvidia suggests that the change shouldn't be much of a problem for gamers overall, but removing the data will make it harder to track these issues. Read the rest of the story... 18. New story quests have landed in Fortnite. There’s one that may leave you scratching your head, though, since you need to harness your brainpower while also fending off any opponents nearby. If you’re looking for solutions to the Nightshift Forest riddles, we’ve got you covered. The Fortnite Nightshift Riddles are unlocked towards the end of the latest round of story quests, which send you on a whistle-stop tour across the map visiting specific locations. While the others are mostly gathering quests or using specific weapon abilities, the Riddles need to be answered correctly. View the full article

  21. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 starts at $1,999 before you factor in upsells from the company's partners or price increases driven by scalpers and/or genuine demand. It costs more than my entire gaming PC. The new GPU is so expensive that you could build an entire well-specced gaming PC with Nvidia's next-fastest GPU in it—the $999 RTX 5080, which we don't have in hand yet—for the same money, or maybe even a little less with judicious component selection. It's not the most expensive GPU that Nvidia has ever launched—2018's $2,499 Titan RTX has it beat, and 2022's RTX 3090 Ti also cost $2,000—but it's safe to say it's not really a GPU intended for the masses. At least as far as gaming is concerned, the 5090 is the very definition of a halo product; it's for people who demand the best and newest thing regardless of what it costs (the calculus is probably different for deep-pocketed people and companies who want to use them as some kind of generative AI accelerator). And on this front, at least, the 5090 is successful. It's the newest and fastest GPU you can buy, and the competition is not particularly close. It's also a showcase for DLSS Multi-Frame Generation, a new feature unique to the 50-series cards that Nvidia is leaning on heavily to make its new GPUs look better than they already are. 22. Some of the recent Marvel Rivals character leaks might be fake, as part of a ploy by the developers to catch leakers. A big part of Marvel Rivals’ appeal is its character roster, which consists of 35 famous Marvel heroes and villains as of this writing. NetEase has promised gamers that more characters will be added as the live-service hero shooter continues its lifespan, with the only two officially confirmed at this time being the Thing and The Human Torch of The Fantastic Four. 23. I've seen plenty of burned-out PC components in my time, from power supplies to monitors, but I've never seen a burned-out gaming mouse before. However, a report on social media has left us all scratching our heads after a user complained that their Gigabyte M6880X wired gaming mouse caught fire as they slept, and nearly burned down the house. If the facts behind this story are true, then it would certainly be a shocker. This particular Gigabyte device isn't the best gaming mouse out there, but that doesn't really matter in this instance. It would (or rather, should) be extremely unusual for any mouse to catch fire, especially given the limited electrical current that they typically draw and the fact that this isn't a wireless mouse, meaning there's no battery either. 24. If I had to pick the five greatest and most PC influential games, at least during that transformative decade between 1990 and the end of 2000, then I think Fallout would make the list, probably Civilization, and maybe Doom. There are a lot of contenders for the fourth spot. Command and Conquer comes to mind. So do Half-Life, Counter-Strike, The Sims, and StarCraft. But the ultimate crown goes to Deus Ex. Visionary, original, and the perfect intermediary between player and developer, they should give out Deus Ex to everyone who owns a PC. It's required reading. We're not quite there yet - but if you're signed up to Prime Gaming, or want to give it a try, Deus Ex is free to keep. Read the rest of the story...
