With the arrival of Dino Crisis and its first sequel on PC, it's scarcely been easier in the past 25 years to enjoy these unique survival horror titles. First released in 1999 for the original PlayStation (with Dreamcast and Windows ports to follow), Dino Crisis is exactly what it says on the tin: a survival horror game featuring a menagerie of massive, prehistoric monsters. The original was a critical and commercial hit on its initial release, and, while its popularity hasn't been quite so enduring as that of other PS1 games, fans still have an appetite for Dino Crisis. Obsidian has confirmed that its upcoming RPG, Avowed, will not be an open-world title. While some may feel this is a poor choice of action, it might just be the formula needed for the game to succeed as a memorable exponent of the genre. Though we knew for a while, or at least could guess, that Avowed won’t be an open world title, we recently received confirmation via Xbox Wire, where some of the games devs explained this route and how going for “zones” was much better for pacing and other aspects of game design. Mandragora: Whispers Of The Witch Tree is a 2.5D Soulsvania from Primal Game Studio, in which you electrify, bisect or incinerate handsome, ravening night creatures in a world of heaped skulls and burning spires. Yes, I'm well aware that "2.5D" and "Soulsvania" are nonsense words, woven by pestilent market forces. Samuel Johnson is turning in his grave, I expect. He has risen from his grave and equipped himself with an ironbound dictionary and is even now making his way through the layers of the English language, hellbent on slaughtering every 'vania yet coined. But never mind Samuel. Oversized rodents and spiders aside, Mandragora is notable for being written by Brian Mitsoda, writer of the original Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and the former narrative lead for its sequel at Hardsuit Labs, which lives on in the hands of The ******** Room. Primal have just announced a release date - 17th April. Here's a trailer. Read more View the full article

Though it only confirmed that Bioware was undergoing a “restructuring,” with many developers moved to other teams and ventures, EA has reportedly laid off a sizeable part of the studio. New reports and developer posts indicate that “at least a few dozen” staff were cut from Bioware. According to a Jan. 30 report from Insider Gaming, sources from Bioware said that dozens have lost their jobs at the studio, and that fears are growing that more layoffs are to come in the following weeks and months. “One current employee said they ‘expect it to happen,'” the report reads, while others allegedly spoke of an incoming “wave” of layoffs. This comes after EA announced it would be restructuring and downsizing Bioware to a level appropriate for developing Mass Effect 5 in its current stage. The company never confirmed that layoffs were part of that procedure, and it is unclear why it would leave that part out. View the full article
Diablo 4 has a new season in progress, and the Season of Witchcraft is proving to be among the best seasons the game has seen yet. Necromancers are a strong option in Season 7 for both leveling and endgame content. You can easily take out groups of enemies and single target bosses, so it's a great class to pick when you make a seasonal character this time, especially when you can empower your build even further with new features like the Witchcraft Powers. The past few months have been big for Xbox Game Pass, with the subscription service setting a major new record for quarterly revenue. Microsoft has veered away from the likes of Sony and Nintendo recently, focusing more on software and services than putting out new hardware. It seems to be working, too, with Xbox Game Pass seeing strong performance in both sales and activity from existing customers. View the full article
As I played through Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, I couldn't get the image of a 'whale fall' out of my head. When whales die, their giant bodies sink to the dark depths of the seafloor, feeding and nourishing an entire ecosystem of deep sea creatures. The world of Citizen Sleeper has been through its own climatic event. This sci-fi story takes place in the shadow of the once monolithic Solheim corporation which has now collapsed. The fall of this giant has led to a new way of life. Everyone is surviving on the outcome of this collapse, scavenging its flesh and picking its bones clean. The Sleeper’s story is just one out of hundreds, all feeding off the guts of a fallen leviathan. Read more View the full article
Don't get too comfortable. As an RPG that puts you in the synthetic boots of an escaped robo-person, Citizen Sleeper 2 often has you on the run. It's a crunchy, dicey machine of vibrant world-building that sometimes forgets itself in wandering prose. A compelling universe to sail through, with more habitats and hovels than its predecessor, more stations and stellar gateways. It can't - for me - escape the dense gravity of the first game's compact storytelling and novel character building, no matter how often it funnels you from one space ****** to the next. But it has a good time trying. Read more View the full article

Team Ninja will release a Ninja Gaiden 2 ****** update in mid February to make “balance adjustments” and add “additional features.” The update was announced on X/Twitter but little was said about what it includes specifically. Players have already replied to the post with features they’d like to see, including options to tweak camera movement as well as a more traditional new game plus option, but Team Ninja has only said it will address “feedback” received so far. No release date was announced. “Based on the feedback received, we are preparing a patch aimed for release in mid February with some balance adjustments and additional features,” the studio said. Ver. 1.0.6.0 Patch Released A patch for the Microsoft Store ver. to fix the issue where super-resolution couldn't be selected has been released. As detailed on its website, it comes with two specific changes: a fix for an issue that removed DLSS and XeSS resolution options for copies bought through the Microsoft Store, and a fix for a “rare” problem that halted progress for players after defeating certain bosses. The game was revealed alongside word that Team Ninja and PlatinumGames are both hard at work on Ninja Gaiden 4, which is set to launch in fall 2025. The remake of the second Ninja Gaiden game, meanwhile, is here now, and it’s already made quite an impression in the gaming space. We’ve enjoyed it, too, giving it an 8/10 in our review, where we called it a “definite and gorgeous improvement” over the Sigma 2 re-release and “an excellent action game all around.” For more on Ninja Gaiden 2 ******, you can read up on why we think the franchise’s revival is the perfect antidote to the Soulslike phenomenon. Most Minecraft mobs are fairly easy to spot from far away since they’re around the same size as you. But one mob is so small you might walk right past it without even realizing it. Fireflies are just two pixels in size, which makes them very tough to spot. This tiny mob is an excellent one to use for building since it can help add a nice subtle glow to any area. They’re not easy to locate, though, since they’re incredibly small and only found in two specific regions, so here’s how to find Fireflies in Minecraft. View the full article

Never wanting to miss out on a good grift, Ebay scalpers have returned in force for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 launch. The new GPU is already in high demand after its first day on shelves resulted in sellouts across the board. This was expected, as Nvidia even warned of "stock outs" before the release. We recently tested the new flagship for our RTX 5090 review, and comes in at a base price of $1,999. That's just for Nvidia Founders Edition and reference spec cards, though, with the partners slowly revealing their pricing, including Asus with its $3,000 variation.
