Fields of Mistria is an absolutely glorious cozy life sim that is still in early access, but that hasn’t stopped the developers at NPC Studio from releasing regular updates. Just over six months since the early access release, we’re about to get the second major update. [Hidden Content] The next update will be coming on March 10, including a host of new features for players to dive into whether they choose to start a new farm or continue with their original one. As part of this second major update, players will finally get to meet Caldarus in the flesh (as opposed to his statue on the farm), and we’ll also get access to the mysterious Deep Woods. We know all of this is coming in this update thanks to the Fields of Mistria 2025 roadmap that was originally shared on January 17: Image via NPC Studio As a player since day one, I’m most looking forward to diving back into the Mines, where a new Fire Seal will be added, granting access to an entirely new fiery biome of 20 floors complete with new enemies, resources, and collectibles. Most of the additions are fan-requested, and there is a long list of less pivotal but no less exciting features coming as well. Sprinklers are coming (hallelujah), we can have pets, and players will even be able to tweak the speed at which time progresses in their own game. This is a rare feature in even the behemoths in the cozy game sphere. Stardew Valley, which is probably the closest comparison to Fields of Mistria, does not have this if you’re playing a vanilla game, and you need to install mods such as TimeSpeed to enable this absolute life-saver of a feature. To have it as a basic option in Fields of Mistria is sure to help it stand out from the crowd of pixel-based cozy games, even more than it already does. Image by Destructoid Sadly, the option to romance Olric seems to be becoming less and less likely as time progresses and more updates are released. However, Caldarus is known to be a romanceable character, so there will soon be more faces within the dating pool of Mistria, even if he is a bit of a dragon. I vividly remember the first time I stepped foot on World of Warcraft's Asian-inspired island, Pandaria. As a budding adventurer, I was awed by the opening airship battle, stunned by the region's beauty, and enchanted by its fluffy Panda-inspired people. My jaw still drops any time I do the circle around the Serpent's Heart - it was a world quite unlike any other: lush, vivid, and exciting. But the last time I really played the MMO was during Shadowlands because, while I reviewed Dragonflight, I didn't get to put as much time into it as I'd wanted. Why? Well, MMORPGs are 'massive' by their very nature, and finding the time to slot in daily quests and raids with the squad isn't exactly easy. By contrast, Legacy: Steel and Sorcery feels like a condensed version of the WoW experience, with added extraction mechanics to boot. It's a game that showed a lot of promise in its alpha stages, and it's finally arrived on Steam in early access. Read the rest of the story... Riot Games has shaken up League of Legends esports with the Fearless Draft system, an experimental format introduced in this year’s regional splits—and so far, it’s been working like a charm. In a best-of-three series, League players can ban 10 champions each match, but now, with Fearless Drafts, any champion they choose in match one becomes unavailable for the rest of the series. This takes away meta champions over time and forces pros to get deeper into the woods by choosing uncommon picks. This is a great change of pace in the competitive space, and I love seeing forgotten champions appear more often on stage—and my only issue is that Fearless Drafts won’t be in every major tournament this year. Path of Exile 2 is one of the loudest releases in gaming in recent months. The game’s early access went live in December, though players currently need to pay for it—and now they’re wondering if the title will ever become free to play. The first entry in the series is now a free-to-play experience, so logically, its sequel should follow the same route. Essentially, it does, but before it’s available for free, players need to wait a bit longer. Here’s how everything works. View the full article

Some fires take longer to light than others. Way back in the thematically-appropriate year of 1984 an arcade game in an incredibly cool cabinet was released in tiny numbers, and hardly anyone recognized it as the future. I, Robot was the public's first look at real-time polygon graphics, and was a commercial failure despite being a great game. Speaking as someone old enough to have played it when it was new (Aladdin's Castle was just an all-around awesome arcade and one of my first stops when I get that time machine) it's hard to express how incredible I, Robot looked at the time, obviously far less detailed than the sprite-work in standard games but how on earth did it change perspective like that? Magneto often gets overlooked in Marvel Rivals while comparing different tanks who do good damage in the game, but his output could be improved with a simple redesign or buff. In a Reddit discussion, Marvel Rivals players have been specifically talking about Magneto’s melee attacks and how they feel lackluster compared to other Vanguards in the game. Some point toward the attack’s “unintuitive hitbox” which makes it a bit unreliable in teamfights. View the full article
