Enchanting weapons in Avowed is a simple yet powerful method to enhance their effectiveness, but there are a few key aspects to consider before diving in. Avowed Weapon Enchanting Guide: How to Upgrade Your Gear Enchanting in Avowed only works on Unique Weapons. These come with powerful buffs, called Enchantments, already attached to them. Enchanting allows you to take that potent Enchantment and either improve it or replace it with a different one altogether, assuming you have the necessary materials in your possession. Screenshot by Destructoid Enchanting is done at the Enchanting Station located within your Party Camp. Interacting it with a bring-up a list of Unique weapons on your character, along with a second list depicting those weapons' active Enchantments. By selecting a Unique weapon in the list, you'll be given the option to improve its Enchantment or Augment it into a different one using the Enchantment materials you have. How to access your Party Camp in Avowed Since the Enchanting Station can only be found in your Party Camp, you must get there first. Your Party Camp is always accessible via interacting with Adra Waystones in the overworld. These look like giant green crystals that glow with a trailing purple hue. Screenshot by Destructoid By interacting with an Adra Waystone, either through the World Map or directly, you'll be prompted to set up your Party Camp, and then you'll have immediate access to the Enchanting Station from there. If you interact with a Waystone through your World Map, you'll additionally be prompted to Fast Travel there before setting up the Party Camp. Screenshot by Destructoid Your Party Camp is full of helpful things, besides the Enchanting Station, and various other benefits that will make your adventuring in The Living Lands much easier. These include an Equipment Stash for storing gear, a Workbench for upgrading gear, and even a Camp Tent for messing with cosmetics for your companions. Good stuff. What are Enchanting Materials in Avowed? Enchanting Materials are mostly comprised of common materials you find when you kill monsters and loot various locations throughout the game. Chances are, you already have several Enchanting Materials if you've been exploring Avowed's overworld in any meaningful capacity. Screenshot by Destructoid All Enchantments require different combinations of Enchanting Materials. Think of this like a reagent requirement list for crafting an item, where the more basic an Enchant is, the easier it will be to find the materials for it. Avowed has many different types of Enchanting Materials, so it may take some time to find and get what you need for a specific Enchant. With options for entirely PvE servers alongside the standard PvEvP, you have the choice of how to play, and Madfinger's newest update brings some heavily requested features to the table, including the ability to repair your gear without the need for replacement parts. Elden Ring Nightreign is designed primarily around multiplayer, but matchmaking and playing with friends still isn't as straightforward as many other games. Nightreign is designed for teams of three, and rather than the summons and invasions that have defined FromSoftware action RPG multiplayer since ******'s Souls in 2009, the spin-off takes a more traditional approach to session-based co-op. There's no PvP at all, in fact, since opposing players cannot enter a game, and Nightreign is intended to be a fast-paced PvE experience. View the full article

When you first explore the region of Shatterscarp, you'll come across a roadblock with its broken lift. The NPCs will ask you to mend it, but the game doesn't necessarily tell you how. So, if you're wondering what to do, here's how to fix the Shatterscarp lift in Avowed. How do you fix the lift at Shatterscarp in Avowed? You'll likely encounter the broken lift while on the quest for the Fires in the Mine mission or when simply traveling around the Shatterscarp map. Interacting with the lever won't do you much good, so you'll need to go the long way around and fix it from the other side. Head towards Deadfall Highlands and then make your way to the Sulfur Mines Basecamp. Screenshot by Destructoid As you may expect, there will be a few enemies along this pathway, so come prepared with weapons and healing items. Once you cross the bridge to the camp, you must use electricity magic to power the generator on the lift's right side. You can shock the Essence Generator yourself with a grimoire or utilize Giatta's Spectral Jolt. Screenshot by Destructoid The lift should now work after you power the generator, allowing you to interact with the lever. Head down to get a nice little dialogue scene from the NPCs below it. I was hoping it would unlock a quest or reward with them, but nothing seems to be tied to them after this. I checked back on these characters, and they just continue to stick around there. However, this time, they're thankful for what you did. An event could trigger later on, as the townsfolk mention they need to return to work soon. At the most, you can finish out the Fires in the Mines quest, which you can begin on your way to Thirdborn. The Shatterscarp lift will always work from now on, making travel much more accessible in Avowed. The post How to fix the Shatterscarp lift in Avowed appeared first on Destructoid. Obsidian's Avowed just went live in advanced access for those willing to spend more, sending new adventurers out across the Living Lands. While they're out there, they might discover some magical items and dangers, and apparently, a little bit of love after all. During the pre-release run-up for Avowed, Obsidian said the game wouldn't feature a dedicated romance system, and would instead focus on building "thoughtful relationships" with companions. Here's a quote from an IGN interview with Avowed game director Carrie Patel, explaining the thought process: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," Patel said at the time. "Ultimately, I personally am a fan of making that an option, but I feel like if you're going to do it, you really, really have to commit and make sure that you're giving all to fulfilling that in a way that feels both true to the character, but also creates an engaging player experience. So not something we're doing for Avowed, but I wouldn't say never." Early players and reviewers of Avowed are reporting that, actually, at least one companion has eyes for your player character. Spoilers ensue for specific interactions with the companion Kai, so if you're looking to avoid that, turn back now. Warning! Avowed spoilers follow: GamesRadar reports that Kai, voiced by Brandon Keener (also the voice of Mass Effect's Garrus Vakarian), can wind up in a romance with the player. Complete his own personal quest line, confess your feelings, and apparently you'll get a confirmation of your happily-ever-after in the credits roll. I'm not far enough in my personal Avowed playthrough to confirm as much, but PC Gamer encountered similar dialogue in their playthrough. The romance seems gender-agnostic too, as PC Gamer played as a male character, and GamesRadar's reported success was with a female character. It's a nice little treat, especially for all the Garrus fans. It does make one wonder what shifted in development, but if love wins in the end, that's all that really matters. Avowed is out now in early access, so if you're looking for a take on it, be sure to check out our Avowed review. Once you're done with that, check out IGN's guide to Things Avowed Doesn't Tell You. There's something uncanny about dipping "classic" games in a tub of HD paint for the purposes of a remaster. A reboot can completely reinvent an old character, intriguing players in the same way an adaptation of Macbeth might excite a theatre dweeb. But remasters often feel like someone has plainly yet painstakingly rolled over every inch of the original with linoleum. The worst remasters bring to mind the Spanish pensioner who butchered a fresco of Jesus Christ. As acts of restoration go, Aspyr's work on Tomb Raider (and Soul Reaver) isn't quite that egregious. Hard work has gone into updating the scenery and textures. Basic vine sprites become handsome twirls of plantlife. Egyptian reliefs are given form. But there's a limit to this unfurling of digital lino. The results ultimately evoke the look common in mobile games when smartphones were becoming ever more powerful. This is Lara Croft if she were designed by Gameloft in 2011. Read more View the full article
