Today’s LoLdle quote seems like it’d be easy to guess on first glance. But you might be surprised when you find out that the champion who says “Fear the ocean’s weight” isn’t who you think it is. The Feb. 19 LoLdle quote had me stumped. At first, I was sure it would be Nami, the Tidecaller. After all, you’d think it’d be something League of Legends’ resident fish-person would say. But lo’ and behold, the answer to today’s puzzle is one of the other 169 champions. View the full article

Valve's updates to its classic games evoke Hemingway's two kinds of going bankrupt: gradually, then suddenly. Nothing is heard, little is seen, and then, one day, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Day of Defeat, and other Source-engine-based games get a bevy of modern upgrades. Now, the entirety of Team Fortress 2 (TF2) client and server game code, a boon for modders and fixers, is also being released. That source code allows for more ambitious projects than have been possible thus far, Valve wrote in a blog post. "Unlike the Steam Workshop or local content mods, this SDK gives mod makers the ability to change, extend, or rewrite TF2, making anything from small tweaks to complete conversions possible." The SDK license restricts any resulting projects to "a non-commercial basis," but they can be published on Steam's store as their own entities. Since it had the tools out, Valve also poked around the games based on that more open source engine and spiffed them up as well. Most games got 64-bit binary support, scalable HUD graphics, borderless window options, and the like. Many of these upgrades come from the big 25-year anniversary update made to Half-Life 2, which included "overbright lighting," gamepad configurations, Steam networking support, and the like. What are the Killing Floor 3 system requirements? This gore-tastic FPS is set to arrive soon, and you might want to consider upgrading your gaming PC if your parts are starting to look a little dusty. Killing Floor 3 demands significant upgrades over its predecessor, but a nine-year gap between releases will do that. You won't need the very best graphics card to start blasting zombies, sorry, I mean Zeds, when the Killing Floor 3 release date comes around. However, this is one game where you'll want to target the recommended specs to experience the new M.E.A.T dismemberment system in all its glory. Elsewhere, a suspiciously small install size has me thinking that large high-resolution texture files aren't a focus for developer Tripwire Interactive. Read the rest of the story... It’s been a rough season for Call of Duty: Warzone, there’s no doubt about that, and no way to sugarcoat it. But Season Two Reloaded is almost here. Activision announced in January that season two of ****** Ops 6 would be an uneventful one for Warzone, as it chose to prioritize focusing on quality of life updates and bug fixes instead of adding content to the game. And it’s been felt. View the full article
I can never remember the technical term for that wibbly effect you get in PS1 games when you sidle up to surfaces and look askance at the textures. I thought it was "dithering", but Brendy says that's not what dithering is you sap, you absolute dunce. If you know the answer, please educate me in a comment. But first, try Blue Wyrm. One word, five letters, six tries. Simple concepts often create the most addicting games, and Wordle is a prime example of this phenomenon. Wordle was created by a single developer, a software engineer named Josh Wardle, in June 2021. The rules are easy to digest: players get six tries to guess a five-letter word. If a letter is in its correct spot, it turns green. If the letter is in the word but out of place, it turns yellow. And if the letter isn't in the answer, it turns ******. The game's simplistic rules paired well with its interface: a five-by-six grid of 30 individual squares laid against a ****** background. He made Wordle for his partner, who loved word games, as something for them to enjoy together. He soon showed it to family and friends, too, and it became a staple amongst their inner circle. This is what prompted Josh to release the game publicly on the internet, and it exceeded all expectations. At first, less than 100 people played the game October 2021, but it became a viral sensation, garnering over 300,000 daily players over the next two months. This caught the attention of The New York Times, which acquired Wordle in early 2022, giving the game a wider audience than ever before. It is still going strong to this day. While The New York Times offers the chance to play every Wordle puzzle since its origin through its paid archive, there is no official compilation of every Wordle answer ever. Hopefully, this one can suffice. Gameloft has officially confirmed that Disney Dreamlight Valley’s latest update, Tales of Agrabah, is arriving soon. Although we caught a glimpse at this update in a previous content roadmap, we now know that Princess Jasmine and Aladdin are coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley on February 26, 2025. [Hidden Content] We initially learned about Princess Jasmine and Aladdin’s update through DDV’s October 2024 Showcase, revealing a 2025 free content roadmap that included their arrival in “Early 2025.” While this didn’t specify a month, it suggested we’d see them sometime between January and March. Although Gameloft didn’t reveal much more after, their latest video showcases everything, from a new realm to its release date. Image via Gameloft As revealed through an official DDV character announcement, Tales of Agrabah will feature a new realm where you’ll meet Jasmine and Aladdin. However, the realm is in disarray, so it’ll be up to you to work with them to restore Agrabah to its former glory. Maybe Jafar’s influence in Rift in Time is carrying over to this realm, too. The Tales of Agrabah update also comes with Aladdin’s flying carpet as a new companion and a Gem Stall once you advance through Aladdin’s friendship questline. There’s no word yet on whether we’re getting new cooking recipes, but knowing previous updates, we’ll likely see a few related to Agrabah’s cuisine. As usual, we’ll be able to invite both Jasmine and Aladdin to Dreamlight Valley as we finish their realm’s quests, but the details of what this entails are still unknown. Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Tales of Agrabah update is arriving on February 26, 2025. Avowed allows players to freely shape their own playstyle and tale in a world where every choice matters. But does the game have romance options, or does it approach the subject in the same vein as other recent Obsidian titles? To help you find your Envoy's soulmate and get that healthy dose of romance many consider to be a must in any RPG, here are all of the romance options in Avowed and how to romance them. All Romance Options in Avowed, explained Although the game seems to follow a similar approach as The Other Worlds, where you are free to deepen your bond with select party members but unable to cross the line during a playthrough, Avowed does allow you to romance a single character, Kai. The romance, however, only blossoms after the end of the story. You also don't have to worry about your character's gender here, as you can romance your first companion no matter your choice. How to romance Kai in Avowed Image via Obsidian Entertainment Fortunately for all who were afraid of having a single wrong choice kill off their Envoy's chance at love, you can romance Garru— I mean Kai in Avowed by completing Battle Scars (his companion quest) before talking to him at the camp and selecting the following options: I've got questions about you. I feel like we've really gotten to know each other, haven't we? I've come to really care about you. Kai, I'm saying I have feelings for you. Any option but "Forget I said anything" Any of the following options during the scene. After doing the above, simply play the game as normal and complete it to unlock the romance during Kai's epilogue. Even if we cannot say doing so will have any direct impact on its availability, courtesy of Avowed's lack of a true-to-form approval system, it won't hurt to stay on Kai's good side if looking to romance him during a playthrough. You can do that by often talking to him while at camp, performing actions that align with his moral code, and making choices that show care or interest during his companion quest. Now that you know how to romance Kai, I also highly recommend checking out where to find all Unique Armor pieces in Avowed. While you are at it, take a look at our Class Tier List as well to get an optimal build as soon as possible. The post All Romance Options in Avowed appeared first on Destructoid. Although it may seem tedious, collecting all available quests in Avowed before exploring each new region is a good habit. Running off and exploring a new region in Avowed can be tempting. However, taking the time to talk to everyone in town before venturing out into the wilds will save a lot of time in the long run and can even save some lives. View the full article

Microsoft has announced a new generative AI model designed for gameplay ideation. The company detailed what it calls the first World and Human Action Model (WHAM). The WHAM, Katja Hofmann, Senior Principal Research Manager and lead of the Microsoft Research Game Intelligence team, said in a blog post, is a generative AI model of a video game that can generate game visuals, controller actions, or both. Microsoft calls this generative AI model Muse, which was developed by the Microsoft Research Game Intelligence and Teachable AI Experiences (**** X) teams in collaboration with Hellblade developer Ninja Theory. It’s open sourcing the weights and sample data and making the executable available for the WHAM Demonstrator — a concept prototype that provides a visual interface for interacting with WHAM models and multiple ways of prompting the models. The company provided a number of gameplay clips showing what Muse is capable of. Currently, the model can generate “complex gameplay sequences that are consistent over several minutes” just by prompting the model with 10 initial frames (one second) of human gameplay and the controller actions of the whole play sequence. The game used to train Muse was Ninja Theory’s 2020 multiplayer game Bleeding Edge. “We worked closely with our colleagues at Ninja Theory and with Microsoft compliance teams to ensure that the data was collected ethically and used responsibly for research purposes,” Hofmann insisted. “It’s been amazing to see the variety of ways Microsoft Research has used the Bleeding Edge environment and data to explore novel techniques in a rapidly moving AI industry,” said Gavin Costello, technical director at Ninja Theory. “From the hackathon that started it all, where we first integrated AI into Bleeding Edge, to building AI agents that could behave more like human players, to the World and Human Action Model being able to dream up entirely new sequences of Bleeding Edge gameplay under human guidance, it’s been eye-opening to see the potential this type of technology has.” Muse is used in “world model mode” meaning it is used to predict how the game will evolve from the initial prompt sequence. The more closely the generated gameplay sequence resembles the actual game, the more accurately Muse has captured the dynamics of that game. Generative AI is one of the hottest and most controversial topics in the creative industries. As video game development costs rise, publishers are increasingly looking to AI tools to speed up work and cut costs. Call of Duty reportedly sold an "AI-generated cosmetic" for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in late 2023, and fans accused Activision of using generative AI again for a loading screen last year. EA said in September that AI was "the very core" of its business, and just last month, Capcom said it was experimenting with generative AI to create the "hundreds of thousands" of ideas needed for in-game environments. Head of PlayStation Productions and head of product at PlayStation Studios Asad Qizilbash weighed in on AI to say its use in video games is important to Gen Z and Gen Alpha gamers who seek "personalization across everything." "For instance, non-player characters in games could interact with players based on their actions, making it feel more personal,” Qizilbash said. “This is important for the younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences, who are the first generations that grew up digitally and are looking for personalization across everything, as well as looking for experiences to have more meaning." Microsoft is all-in on generative AI, as anyone with even a cursory knowledge of ChatGPT and OpenAI will know, and so this development with Ninja Theory comes as little surprise. Still, the company will face tough questions from some within the video game development community who are worried models like Muse will put them out of a job. In the blog post, Hofmann insisted that Microsoft's team “focus on exploring the capabilities that models like Muse need to effectively support human creatives.” “I look forward to seeing the many ways in which the community will explore these models and build on our research," Hofmann continued. "I cannot wait to see all the ways that these models and subsequent research will help shape and increase our understanding of how generative AI models of human gameplay may support gameplay ideation and pave the way for future, novel, AI-based game experiences, including the use cases that our colleagues at Xbox have already started to explore.” Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Avowed is finally available, and Obsidian has already released a sizable update for the fantasy action RPG. Still, no title is ever perfect at launch, so Avowed is introducing some major fixes upfront while detailing longer-term plans. View the full article
