  5. Dota 2‘s latest patch has surely reshaped how the game is played, and this one hero exemplifies that perfectly. Silencer, one of the most dreaded mid lane mages, can now farm the entire map at once by purchasing Aghanim’s Scepter and simply casting his Ultimate. As demonstrated in a Feb. 22 Reddit post, Silencer’s Ultimate, a global spell that affects all hostile heroes and units on the map (including neutral creeps), now applies the Arcane Curse, his Q, when used. Arcane Curse deals substantial magic damage over time when leveled up, which it’s bound to be by the time Silencer picks up his Aghs. This allows him to farm the entire map simultaneously, raking in a ton of cash by decimating lane and neutral creeps, bringing him a few thousand gold every couple of minutes. If you buy a Refresher Orb with this extra cash, you’ll be able to farm even more by killing the ******* creeps in the camps, opening up the path to a full build and a victory before the enemy even realizes what’s going on. 7. If Civilization 7 isn't quite floating your boat yet, don't worry. Every new generation of the mighty Firaxis 4X games feels like it takes some time to settle. There are balancing issues to sort, tweaks to be made, and it's tough to compare a newly launched game with its previous installment, now polished to perfection and with a full complement of DLC. The natural conclusion, then, is that now is the best time to buy Civilization 6 - and that thought would be correct, because if you're quick you can get its complete Anthology edition at a massive 91% discount on Steam. 8. Like every other game-changing tactic, lane-swapping in League of Legends seems to be on its way out, with Riot Games introducing draconic measures to stop players from engaging in it. The PBE already implemented these changes, though players wonder if it will be enough to stop it. As announced by Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison on Feb. 22, Riot Games has introduced new measures to prevent lane-swapping in both professional and regular League of Legends. A new “Lane Swap Detection” system has been implemented that changes how the game behaves if lane swapping occurs within the predicted timeframe of 1:30 to 3:30 in-match for top lane and 1:30 to 2:15 for mid. If your lane is detected as having been part of a lane swap, the opposite side’s turret gets 95 percent damage reduction and oneshots minions. Gold and XP is additionally funneled to the nearest champion, and lane-swappers get half the gold and XP from minions. View the full article

  12. Fisch’s Mariana Veil major update is here, and you need a Submarine to go underwater for the first time ever. But before that, you’ll need a drill to find the parts. 13. The Nintendo Switch 2 has built-in motion-control mouse features which would improve playing The Sims 4. The series was always PC-first, with console versions being an afterthought. The native controller input is rather unintuitive, requiring slower movement and strange input combinations. While it was possible to plug in a USB mouse and keyboard into the first Switch, the experience wasn’t always great. Some commands would not work and there could still be lag when using a mouse. 14. I've been eagerly awaiting the full launch of Die in the Dungeon ever since I first played its free prequel. The new roguelike deckbuilder has just hit Steam, and much as Balatro diverged from the traditional format popularized by Slay the Spire, it does something similar with a clever dice-based combat system and a tremendously charming art style. Now, developer Atico has finally launched Die in the Dungeon into early access, and if you're tempted to give it a try you can even grab it cheaply at release thanks to a Steam *****. 17. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is the best-selling game published by Nintendo in January 2025, at least in the US. We don’t know how many copies the game sold, but having been released midway through the month, it must have sold a lot, and very quickly. According to games industry analyst Mat Piscatella, this remaster ranked eighth in the list of highest-selling games in the US last month, and that’s without counting digital copies. It also took the spot of highest selling Switch game of January. That’s hardly surprising for a remake of a popular Nintendo title. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD sold over 4 million copies on Switch. Even remakes like the poorly timed The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, released on the unsuccessful WiiU one year before the Switch, managed to cross the 1 million copies milestone. Image by Nintendo Nintendo remakes rarely add much to the original. The Donkey Kong remaster comes with an oddly named “Modern Mode, ” and the game does look better and run smoother than the original, but that’s it. The only major exception is TLoZ: The Wind Waker HD, a full remake of a not-so successful title which could probably be ported as-is on the Switch and sell like hot cakes. So why are there so few Nintendo remakes on the Switch? They sell millions of copies at full price and are relatively cheap to produce, so why are Mario Galaxy and Mario Sunshine only available in the discontinued Super Mario 3D All-Stars? Some, like Rare’s n64 titles, are hard to license, but first-party games like Luigi’s Mansion, Metroid Prime 2 and 3, Fire Emblem, Wario Ware, and many more should be a no-brainer. Some might say that it’s not a problem if a company decides not to make all the money in the world, and they’d be right. But the problem isn’t leaving money on the table; it’s leaving fans without easy, legal access to older games and seasoned developers unable to show everyone the fruits of their work. Ultimately, the problem is that I, personally, have to keep a Wii around for when I replay Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Most of this loot can be found within chests, which often lack security relative to the contents held within.
