  1. Stardew Valleyis one of the most popular farming sims out there, but it's missing some important quality-of-life features. Not only that, but it's also missing some fun mechanics. These features and customizations should have been in Stardew from the beginning. Yet, even with the updates and new content over the years, they're still missing. View the full article
  2. The bounties in Avowed are a big part of the game and one of the best ways to get better gear. Not all of them will reward you with better gear alone, but all of them will give you a significant amount of coins for the area you are in, allowing you to buy better versions of your favored weapon or armor. This can significantly reduce the difficulty of the enemies you face, as the number of skulls next to their names will slowly decrease. View the full article
  3. One Stardew Valleyplayer has just discovered a mysterious button located in the Skull Caverns, leaving them to wonder what its purpose is. Players that have progressed far into the game will be familiar with the dangerous Skull Caverns located in the desert, a daring venture that's better left until gamers are well-prepared. Without any way to save progress through elevators, these mines are a risk to go deeper into but offer great rewards to those who dare. View the full article
  4. Welcome back, deal seekers, to another week of absolute steals across Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox, and those Stations of Play. Whether you’re diving into a critically acclaimed RPG, knuckling through an iconic fighting game, or shredding through a sandbox, there’s something for everyone at jaw-droppingly low prices. This Day in Gaming In retro celebrations, I’ve lit 20 stylus-themed candles for the original Nintendo DS. To say I was excited when I slapped down my A$199 at launch would be quite the understatement. This was, after all, Nintendo’s first bona fide step into something truly different and 3D-capable after 16 years of resizing Game Boy footprints while steadily beefing up their innards. A bright frontier (that was actually well backlit) opened up to me when I lifted the two (!!) screen clamshell of this strange silver beast. The happy days that followed were punctuated by wireless PictoChat messages of questionable taste, circle strafing duels in the bundled Metroid: Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo, and mild RSI from doing so. In the fullness of time, the DS birthed the DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL to the tune of 154M units sold. It also gave us iconic experiences like Mario Kart DS, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and New Super Mario Bros. to name but a few bangers in its insane 3,000+ games library. Make no mistake; I simply adore my DS. 2. 5. A recent leak suggests that players may soon get a new **** in Honkai: Star Rail to accompany them on their journeys. Pets are a fairly recent addition to the turn-based RPG by HoYoverse; the first and only **** in the game, the Tuskpir, was granted to players as a reward for progress during the Luminary Wardance. For reference, this was a limited-time event that occurred during the Version 2.5 update between September 2024 and October 2024, the same patch that introduced Moze, Lingsha, and Feixiao to Honkai: Star Rail. 6. Poppy Playtime has a community dedicated to analyzing even the smallest of details to put together theories that answer the many lingering questions about Playtime Co. Since we're in the fourth chapter, a fair number of early theories that were created in the beginning chapters have been disproven, or enough new information has been revealed that makes them highly unlikely, even if they haven't been directly disproven. However, it's worth taking a look back at theories that could be true or have been proven false since they showcase the observational skills of the community. View the full article
  7. It may be a bit of a controversial take, but I feel strongly that Monster Hunter Wilds needs a story. It's not that I believe every game needs a narrative, even if I admittedly prefer games with strong, emotionally charged stories. Rather, whenever playing a Monster Hunter game, the absence of a good story - beyond the series' typical vague excuses for venturing out and collecting resources that pass as its narrative - is really felt. It hurts the game, not just because it robs it of an emotional core, but because it makes the experience less memorable. View the full article

  9. A recent Genshin Impact leak reveals that Skirk will use a heavily modified version of the Medium Female model, implying that her Fontaine appearance may not be her final look. As a disciple of Surtalogi, and someone closely tied to the powers of the Abyss, it's safe to say that Skirk is one of the most anticipated characters in Genshin Impact. While she was teased by Tartaglia since Version 1.1, players got to meet Skirk in the flesh during the final Act of Fontaine. View the full article
  10. While at Pokémon EUIC 2025 in London, courtesy of a media pass provided by The Pokémon Company, I had the opportunity to join a panel of journalists and speak with Chris Brown—Director, Global Esports and Events Producer at Pokémon—to learn more about the event’s growth and where fans might see it go in the future. EUIC was a record-breaking event this year, with unprecedented attendance levels for Pokémon Go, VGC, and TCG. Over 6,000 competitors registered from over 50 different countries and regions, with a staggering collective prize pool of over $500,000 across the TCG, VGC, Go, and UNITE. View the full article
  11. There are six main attributes in Avowedthat can be assigned and respecced at any point: Might, Constitution, Dexterity, Perception, Intellect, and Resolve. Each of these attributes has specified effects that can help you build your Avowed character's abilities to fit your playstyle and preferences. When first starting out, it might not be clear exactly how to allocate your stats during character creation, and the choice will depend on your approach to combat and exploration. If you're unsure, some stats with broad benefits might help in any situation, and you can always reset your points later on for relatively cheap. View the full article

  13. Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm has released the first gameplay for DLC guest character the T-1000 and confirmed Madam Bo as a DLC Kameo fighter. The T-1000 gameplay shows off a number of attacks that rekindle memories of Terminator 2, including the T-1000’s blade and hook arms. At one point we see the T-1000 turn into a liquid metal blob before rising from the ground in an uppercut reminiscent of attacks by Killer Instinct’s Glacius. Mortal Kombat 1's T-1000 features the voice and likeness of actor Robert Patrick, who famously played the character in the 1991 film. This teaser reveals Patrick’s voice work for the first time in a clash with Johnny Cage. It ends with a longer look at one of the T-1000’s Fatalities, which recreates the iconic chase scene in Terminator 2 where the T-1000 drives a truck in pursuit of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator and Edward Furlong’s John Connor. In the Fatality, the T-1000 blobs out of the driver’s seat to pump the hapless Cage full of lead. Meanwhile, NetherRealm made the surprise announcement that Madam Bo is set to hit Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC Kameo fighter at the same time as the T-1000. Madam Bo is a fan-favorite character from the base Mortal Kombat 1 story, an elderly restaurant owner who fends off Smoke and his goons before Raiden and Kung Lao get stuck in. The T-1000 is available in Mortal Kombat 1 starting March 18 as part of the early access ******* for Khaos Reigns owners, followed by wide availability for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo is available on March 18 as a free content update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase. T-1000 is the final DLC character set to be added to the gory fighting game as part of the Khaos Reigns expansion, and follows playable fighters Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Fans have wondered for some time now whether developer NetherRealm plans a third set of DLC characters, or a Kombat Pack 3, amid questions about Mortal Kombat 1’s sales success. Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery has indicated, however, that it still believes in the Mortal Kombat franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav said that on the games side of things, the company plans to double down on just four titles, one of which is Mortal Kombat. In September, Mortal Kombat development chief Ed Boon said NetherRealm had decided on its next game three years prior, but promised to support Mortal Kombat 1 “for a long time to come.” Most fans of the studio’s work expect it to release a third game in its DC fighting game franchise, Injustice, although neither NetherRealm nor Warner Bros. has yet to confirm that. The first game in the series, Injustice: Gods Among Us, launched in 2013, with its sequel, Injustice 2, coming out in 2017. NetherRealm released Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and for a time it seemed like the studio would alternate between Mortal Kombat and Injustice games, but it went on to release another Mortal Kombat, the soft reboot that is Mortal Kombat 1, in 2023 instead. In an interview with IGN in June 2023, Boon spoke in vague terms about this decision. "There were a number of factors, some of which I can talk about, some of which I probably shouldn't," Boon said. Two reasons Boon was willing to discuss were the unfortunate onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the team's choice to switch to a newer version of the Unreal game engine (Mortal Kombat 11 runs on Unreal Engine 3, whereas Mortal Kombat 1 runs on Unreal Engine 4). "But we did go to a new graphics engine, Unreal," Boon said. "We really wanted to be careful with COVID and all that stuff and everybody staying safe. So there were a bunch of variables involved that eventually we realized, 'Okay, let's do another Mortal Kombat game and hopefully we'll get back to the Injustice games.' " Just to be sure, we wanted to confirm with him directly that the door was not closed on the Injustice franchise. "Not at all," Boon answered. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. 14. Though Avowed has only three classes on offer, players are given many multiclassing opportunities and robust skill trees for each class, allowing for a variety of complex high-quality builds. The Fighter class is the game’s go-to “guy (or girl) with a sword” class, able to wield massive weapons and do incredible damage at the cost of some speed and security. It can be made to hit quite hard, so here is our best Fighter build in Avowed that lets you dominate Eora with ease. View the full article

  17. Monster Hunter Wildsis already shaping up to be the most ambitious entry the franchise has seen so far, achieving an even greater level of scale and immersion thanks to its open-world design. With the return of fan favorites and exciting new monsters to face, it's easy to see why the player count in Wilds' open beta broke records for the series. Even though the beta had its share of performance issues and bugs, Capcom has been open about feedback when it comes to delivering the iconic Monster Hunter experience to Wilds. View the full article
  18. The success of Avowed has inspired Obsidian to think of more projects set in the world of Eora, first shown to players with the Pillars of Eternity games. Being turn-based RPGs, they could prove a great foundation for a potential Pillars Tactics game, and Obsidian is considering making one. Josh Sawyer, the director of the Pillars games and the groundbreaking Fallout: New Vegas, has come out and said, “Pillars Tactics is a thing that a lot of people at [Obsidian] would like to work on” (thanks GamesRadar). Sawyer expressed his belief that “there are a lot of people that like tactics games,” but admitted, “the fanbase is not humungous.” He said that this disparity between the size and the enthusiasm of the tactical game community would prove an issue when designing a potential Pillars Tactics title. 22. Monster Hunter Wilds is aiming to take the iconic franchise to even greater heights, incorporating the best elements from recent entries to offer a memorable hunting experience. The Monster Hunter franchise has come a long way over the years in terms of popularity as well, featuring countless high-quality collaborations and Easter eggs for other media. Thankfully, this trend hasn't died out with Monster Hunter's transition into the next generation, as both World and Rise have plenty of enjoyable crossovers for fans of the series. 23. Once you reach the Modern Age in Sid Meier's Civilization 7,you'll notice that the Economic Legacy Path requires 500 Railroad Tycoon points acquired from "manufacturing goods in your factories." This might seem like a massive undertaking if you haven't been in the Modern Age before or pursued the Economic route. In reality, it's pretty straightforward once you get a sense of the different requirements, and factory resources are essentially just a unique type of resource with some specific prerequisites. When you start the Modern Age and consider the Railroad Tycoon, the first thing to look at is your available resources. View the full article
  24. Though in many ways similar to the original Elden Ring, the upcoming standalone expansion Elden Ring Nightreign looks different, causing some to fear it might pale when compared to the rest of FromSoftware's works. Prolific Elden Ring Youtuber Zullie The Witch has released a video showing things are actually going pretty well — at least when it comes to bosses — as FromSoftware seems to have once again messed with the formula and perfectly adapted it to the game's new core system. [Hidden Content] Nightreign is primarily meant as a cooperative experience. This means the boss experience could be hindered because the original bosses would easily be outsmarted and obliterated by a team of three thinking minds. Either that or the studio could be forced to buff the bosses into absolute sword sponges that would make their encounters fun for no one. That's not the case, as Nightreign features an evolved boss experience, one with the co-op factor in mind. In short, the new boss encounters featured in the beta feel less like typical Souls bosses and more like bosses from an MMO that require Souls knowledge and skills to beat. Boss encounters won't necessarily feature just one enemy but rather a main enemy accompanied by soldiers or wave spawns that will require players to adapt their approach to battle. One of the Souls series' greatest achievements was the reinvention of the video game boss. Out of nowhere, the tired trope of the simply ******* enemy waiting for you at the end of the level became one of the most memorable parts of the game due to the mechanical complexity and variety of FromSoft's bosses. Also, they now could be popping up anywhere. Nightreign aims at a different Souls experience, one focused on a kind of co-op play also inspired by Battle Royale and Roguelite titles. If that sounds confusing, that's probably just a sign that FromSoftware is again seriously tinkering with our conception of games, and that seems like a good thing. Elden Ring Nightreign comes out on May 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The post How Elden Ring Nightreign changed bosses appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
