Avowed tries out a lot of ideas that distinguish it from your average, everyday fantasy RPG, and one of its biggest departures is the emphasis on firearms. It's no surprise that Avowed lets the Envoy try out some rudimentary guns, as theworld of Eora where the game takes place had already introduced them in the isometric Pillars of Eternity games, but bringing the action into first-person does make the weapons more important. Short of mods, you're never going to stumble across an arquebus in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, so it's a big point of distinction for Avowed. View the full article

Ninja Theory, the studio known for its highly praised Hellblade games, has announced its plans to use artificial intelligence to develop Hellblade 3. This isn’t a simple use of AI; it represents a significant move into new technology, which is pretty distressing for the gaming industry. While the details about how Ninja Theory will use AI are still unclear, the team has stressed it won’t be used for creating content – for now. As easy as it is to be sick to bloody death of snow, skiing will always be a good time. Granted, the adrenaline mostly comes from the downhill variety, but a little nordic cross-country skiing is generally welcome as well. Downhill needs a mountain, after all, while cross-country just requires enough snow to glide over. The adventurer Skaii has set out on a long nordic ski trip to see what they can find, and what they've found is trouble set to a pop beat under the gentle glow of the northern lights. It's awfully pretty if you can avoid face-planting into a tree. View the full article
Marvel Rivals has an endless roster of famous heroes and villains to choose from when designing new characters. The third and final Photo Rally stamp book in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is located in Madlantis, the pirate haven where the majority of its mini-games take place. Although Majima can't even access it initially (you'll have to increase your pirate level and upgrade your ship before you're allowed in), it quickly becomes a pivotal setting, appearing in several main story missions, including the ending of Pirate Yakuza. For this particular mini-game, though, you won't be engaging in any of that: instead, your focus is on taking pictures of certain locations. View the full article
The team working on Assassin's Creed Shadows shared that they know the game has leaked, asking fans to avoid the footage since it won't represent the final product. A League of Legends card game to rival Magic The Gathering? Oooh yes, that sounds like a winner. While they can be expensive hobbies, a great TCG can lure in huge crowds. Sure, Riot Games already has its digital LoL card game, Legends of Runeterra, but there's something about gathering around a table in-person, watching decks compete in front of your own eyes, and holding a physical card between your fingers that a videogame can't replicate. So when I saw Riot reveal its new TCG, known at the minute as Project K, I was instantly interested. Right up until the moment I saw that it was exclusive to the ******** market. Darn. Well, I come bearing some excellent news, because Riot says it's found a way to bring Project K to English-speaking regions soon after its launch in China, as well as other languages and territories in the future. Twitch is pursuing legal action against Russian streamer and former League pro Kirill Konstantinovich Malofeyev, seeking protection from his own lawsuit that ordered the company to pay more money than exists in the world following the streamer’s suspension from the platform due to US sanctions. As per a Feb. 25 Polygon report, Twitch suspended the streamer, who happens to be the son of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev, in 2022 after the US imposed sanctions on the country as a response to its invasion of Ukraine in February that year. Malofeyev, a former League of Legends pro player also known as “Likkrit,” was caught in the sanctions due to ties to his father and his role in “a worldwide sanctions evasion and malign influence network,” the report states. Malofeyev countersued twice, the first one being thrown out by Russian courts and the second going through based on new Russian laws designed to counter the sanctions. Malofeyev ended up winning the suit, with the court ordering Twitch to pay 100,000 rubles per day that Malofeyev’s account remains suspended, doubling each week “without limit.” View the full article

Gamers of all genres, bargain hunters, and lovers of digital delights, gather round and get ready to save serious dough. Of particular note, right now is review D-Day for the very well-received Monster Hunter Wilds (worth a preorder). Otherwise, this week's lineup of gaming discounts looks to be packed with unmissable deals, so let's Hook Sling into the best of the bunch. This Day in Gaming In retro news, I've spent some craaazy money on a 25-shaped birthday cake for Crazy Taxi. This Dreamcast classic was the start of a better-than-fare open-world racing trilogy that was steadily ported across from the arcades. Ludicrously fast and brimming with an uncommon level of freedom in its A to B delivering antics, this version came with all of the epic soundtrack (see: Bad Religion and The Offspring) and added many a mini-game. I lost way too many hours attempting the insanely difficult ten-pin bowling/drifting ones. Interestingly—and as if to prove that nothing changes 'cause it's all the same—it seems ***** is in the process of rebooting this fine game. I guess it all just happens again, way down the line. Naming your character in any RPG game is always the last thing to decide on character creation and if you aren’t sure how to name your Envoy in Avowed, we have some options based on Pillars of Eternity—the game universe the Living Lands is a part of. Image via Obsidian Entertainment You don’t need to use a lore-accurate name on your character; you can always use your own name or a variation of your name if you want to better identify with your character. But if you think your name doesn’t fit right in Eora or it takes you away from the immersion, Obsidian has two whole games in the same universe as Avowed where we can get some inspiration.
