  6. Although it was set to take 2023 by storm, Starfieldfeels like a footnote in Bethesda's recent history, especially after the surprise shadow-drop of Oblivion Remastered. This is likely for several reasons, one of which is that it failed to endear itself to fans with its world and mechanics. Bethesda games are known for longevity, whether through mods like with Skyrim, or through wacky moments and memes, which had kept Oblivion going before the remaster. Fallout 4 and New Vegas still have massive mod projects in the works, but Starfield has none of this. View the full article

  8. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is packed full of mysteries and secrets just waiting to be unlocked, and believe it or not, one of the biggest secrets in the game is hidden right in the very beginning of the game during the Prologue. There is actually a set of hidden weapons you can only pick up during the Prologue in Clair Obscur once you've entered NG+, and you can only get them if you happened to hang on to those Festival Tokens from your previous playthrough. 12. Cooking is involved in a lot of the quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley, but the request to rustle up a fairly fancy appetizer is a bit vague. More often than not, you're given the exact recipe you need to bake or cook for a task, but sometimes you're thrown a real curveball and have to figure it out for yourself, which makes things much harder given how many recipes there are in Dreamlight Valley... 15. After the latest Star Wars-themed season is done, Fortnite's next update is rumored to revolve around The Simpsons. The iconic yellow-tinted animated family has yet to make their Fortnite debut, but according to new leaks, The Simpsons will get their own mini-season once the game's Star Wars-themed update wraps up. It would certainly be a big update for Fortnite, though this crossover would not be all that surprising considering the deal made between Disney and Epic Games back in 2024. 17. There's a moment once the violence and destruction is over when everything is calm, or at least feels that way if you're looking in from outside rather than from the heart of things, trying to figure out how many appendages are still attached and which bits are distressingly leaky. When the damage is big enough, like to the whole world, that calm may last years as the survivors work on reassembling their lives and something resembling civilization. Doloc Town sprung up when a group of survivors settled near the ruins of the bridge where their train broke down, scavenging it for parts and building a small community. Survivor-trauma aside it was a good life for a while, until the continually deteriorating world blocked off the easy access routes and trade dried up. Now it's a town in decline, in desperate need of the farmer/crafter sort who's ready to move in and take on all jobs, rebuilding everything they can get their hands on as they settle into their cozy new rural life. 18. Intel has confirmed that it's about to issue another microcode update for its 13th-gen and 14th-gen Raptor Lake CPUs, meaning you'll need to update your motherboard BIOS again. As with the raft of Intel CPU updates issued at the end of 2024, this one again addresses Vmin Shift Instability, where the CPU voltage can fluctuate to unsafe levels, despite Intel saying it had fixed the issue in 2024. While the performance of the Intel Core i9 14900K means it's still happily sitting on our guide to the best gaming CPU, this range of processors has been hit hard by stability problems, particularly in games based on the Unreal Engine. If you've been experiencing errors in games saying your system is out of VRAM, despite having loads of memory on your graphics card, then you've very probably experienced this Intel stability issue and will need to apply the latest update. 20. Earlier today there was a mighty eruption of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach previews, featuring commentary on the new game's themes and social relevance from erstwhile Metal Gear Solidifier and Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima. Themes and social relevance, eh! Kojima is one of the few bigwigs who will engage openly with such things, which is perhaps less praise of Kojima than a judgement upon the hesitant and anodyne way other blockbuster game creators discuss the impact of their work. In this case, Kojima has talked at some length about how Death Stranding 2 builds on and, at times, resists the first game's theme of connection, based on his experiences of the Covid pandemic and his dislike of the "metaverse" - that ageing umbrella term for a newly monetisable "web 3.0" fauxtopia of networked technologies, ranging from VR to cryptocurrency, which many large video game publishers have sought to normalise in their hunger for profit growth. 21. While I like the comparative groundedness of Tiberian Dawn, Command and Conquer 2 could be the best-looking game in the entire Westwood series. The bright, bold colors. The laser weapons. The mechs. Red Alert 2 also leaps off the screen, but Tiberian Sun finds this gorgeous middle ground between grim post-apocalyptica and C&C's trademark high sci-fi. It's a good time for RTS games right now. Tempest Rising is a worthy successor to the genre's greatest classics and Age of Empires 2 just got a new expansion. But Fractured Alliance, from Tense Games, feels like the closest in spirit to the true old-school, and now we have details on its third faction. Read the rest of the story... 22. If you're looking to buy a new mechanical gaming keyboard, then this is a deal you won't want to miss. The acclaimed Corsair K70 RGB Pro is currently the subject of a serious deal, enabling you to save a colossal $70 on the usual price of $169.99, bringing it down to just $99.99. Trust me when I say you won't regret taking advantage of this bargain - I've been using a Corsair K70 in various guises for over a decade, and it's the best keyboard I've ever owned. With its premium aluminum frame, we praised this keyboard's "fantastic build quality" in our Corsair K70 RGB Pro review, but described its price as "hard to ********," and that criticism has been dealt a swift blow with this current price reduction. Meanwhile, the handy volume control roller on the top right of this Corsair keyboard makes it easy to quickly change the volume of your music or game with a simple finger flick, which is much better than having to twist a knob or, worse, push buttons up and down.
