Police and firefighters respond to an explosion rocking the California city of Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — Officials in California say police and firefighters are responding to an explosion that rocked the city of Palm Springs.
The city of Palm Springs said Saturday in a social medial post that the explosion happened at 11 a.m. local time and that residents were being asked to avoid the area around North Indian Canyon Drive near East Tachevah Drive.
Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on their way to the scene to help assess what happened, according to spokesperson Nicole Lozano.
Dr. Maher Abdallah, who runs the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic where the explosion occurred, told The Associated Press in a phone interview that all of his staff were safe and accounted for.
The explosion damaged the practice’s office space, where it conducts consultations with patients, but left the IVF lab and all of the stored embryos there unharmed.
“I really have no clue what happened,” Abdallah said. “Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients.”
Nima Tabrizi, 37, of Santa Monica, said he was inside a cannabis dispensary nearby when he felt a massive explosion.
“The building just shook, and we go outside and there’s massive cloud smoke,” Tabrizi said. “Crazy explosion. It felt like a bomb went off. … We went up to the scene, and we saw human remains.”
Palm Springs is a tony community in the desert about a two-hour drive east of Los Angeles, known for upscale resorts and a history of celebrity residents.

Upscale California hotel faces daily $11k fine for privatizing beach
Upscale California hotel faces daily $11k fine for privatizing beach
A historic oceanfront hotel in Laguna Beach is under fire for setting up a private area for its guests. In violation of a California law ensuring public beach access, the upscale property faces a fine of up to $11,250 per day, according to the state.
Hotel Laguna claims to be first hotel located on the famous Orange County beach, set along the Pacific Coast Highway, for over 125 years, according to its website. It also has a several years-long history of breaking the law set by the California Coastal Act, which manages conservation and the development of coastal resources while also providing “maximum public access to the coast,” according to the California Coastal Commission.
Most recently, the hotel has built “berm” on the sand outside of its property line with umbrellas, beach chairs and signage, according to a letter shared with USA TODAY that was sent to the property by the commission last week.
Such unpermitted developments “unlawfully discourage public access to public trust lands” by giving the impression that the beach is private, the letter continued. While private ownership on the shoreline is legal, the state owns all beaches “waterward of the mean high tide line.”
Feuds over ensuring access to public beaches are nothing new to California, with various battles hitting the sands of California’s coast from San Diego to Malibu to Half Moon Bay. California’s beaches are publicly owned on the water side of the high tide line. However, many communities have made it hard over the years for people to reach the coastline.
On social media, people have posted TikToks of the hotel’s employees allegedly threatening them if they don’t leave. Others have left scathing comments on the hotel’s Instagram posts, saying, “shame on you” and that it’s “stealing” the beach.
The government agency is requesting the hotel promptly remove these unpermitted developments but, due to a history of similar violations, is also considering “formal enforcement.”
In 2024, the commission received reports that people walking along the water’s edge were being told they were trespassing private property, when it’s lawfully state land. The hotel had also set up a barrier for a volleyball net, poles and other “other equipment that discourages public access.”
The hotel has until May 23 to provide photographic evidence that the berm and other beach equipment have been removed.

How to choose the right tree to bring autumn colour and winter sunshine to your garden
How to choose the right tree to bring autumn colour and winter sunshine to your garden
Autumnal colour in the garden is always welcome and never fails to put a smile on my face. Deciduous trees and shrubs not only offer interest through with leaves keeping their colour throughout the season and into winter, but they symbolise the change in seasons, offering summer shade and winter sun.
Selecting a deciduous tree for the city has its restrictions. You need a tree that is small enough to fit into your garden without taking over.
It also needs to respond well to cold nights and hot days — this is what generates the most vivid colour change. Now is the time to select your deciduous trees as you can gauge the colour you will get in the garden, compare it with the surrounding plants, and understand the impact it will have on your design.
My number one pick is the crepe myrtle as it colours up so vividly, even in the warmth of the city nights.
It stays small but also responds well to pruning, making it perfect for small gardens. This tree can be left to form its own personality or pruned into a shape that is appealing and customized to your garden. It looks good even without any leaves on it.
The bark’s salmon colour and texture make the trunk a standout and early in the year it is covered in flowers of pinks, whites, scarlet, purples, and indigos. To top it all off this tree is drought-tolerant once established making it an excellent fail-safe choice if you are looking for a small tree with deciduous colour.
An honorable mention should go to the ******** Pistachio tree (Pistacia chinensis). It’s a great looking small tree with a rounded canopy.
Camera IconAutumn leaves. Credit: Tonic Ray Sonic /Stock.adobe.com
The bark is grey with shallow furrows and the relatively inconspicuous blooms turn to an interesting red/blueberry. It’s the colour change that really makes this tree stand out though, with wonderful crimson and scarlet tones, and its ability to withstand harsh conditions and drought.
When picking a tree there are a few important things to look for. This is not just a monetary investment, but one that will have ongoing and long-lasting impact on your garden design. A happy-looking and healthy tree should draw you to it.
The trunk and stems should be free of scars. You don’t want to take home a tree with a previous injury as it won’t perform to its best in your garden.
The trunk should taper uniformly towards the top and the top leader — the stem pointing straight up to the sky — should be well developed and healthy. Branches should be uniformly distributed around the trunk, so you won’t get bald spots in the canopy.
But pick a nice shape to suit your garden and the surrounding plants the tree will sit amongst.
The plant that is growing out of the soil should be in proportion to the pot size. If the pot is too big, you’re paying for a small plant that has just been potted up.
If it’s too small, the plant may be root-bound. If a plant is in good proportions to the pot it is growing in, you can deduce that it has been well cared for and potted up at the right time.
Finally check if there are roots protruding out of the pot and how many there are. You don’t want to get your tree home to find out it’s root-bound or rooted to the ground in the nursery.
You can tell by examining the outside of the pot too. If it’s tight and compacted, walk away. When you get your new tree home it’s a good idea to lightly trim the edge of the root ball with a sharp knife. This stimulates the root behind the cut to throw out new roots — like pruning a branch — and help establish the tree quicker.

Frustrated Luke Bryan concert-goers bail on Atwater show after 3-hour waits
Frustrated Luke Bryan concert-goers bail on Atwater show after 3-hour waits
Reality Check is a Merced Sun-Star series holding those in power to account and shining a light on their decisions. Have a tip? Email *****@*****.tld.
Jenny Hickman and a group of friends expected to spend Thursday night singing, dancing and having a memorable experience at the Luke Bryan Farm Tour 2025 stop at Castle Airport.
Instead, their girls’ night turned into dinner at Chili’s in Merced.
After waiting three hours in line to get into the concert, Hickman and her friends decided to leave and never made it through the entrance for the show.
“We could not wait, we had been talking about the concert for months,” Hickman said. “We were so excited to go. We were with a younger girl, who was starting to get scared with everything happening around us so we decided to leave. We turned Chili’s into our girls’ night.”
After selling 20,000 tickets for the concert, the concert organizers were ill-equipped to accommodate that large of a crowd and usher the concert-goers safely and efficiently into the make-shift venue at Castle Airport, according to Hickman.
Social media started getting flooded with posts from people who had similar experiences of three-hour waits before giving up and leaving.
Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke blamed Bryan’s concert team for having just one VIP entrance and one general admission gate for people to enter the venue.
“(Bryan’s) people did not have their act together, as far as that was concerned,” Warnke said
According to Warnke, the concert staff told Undersheriff Corey Gibson that they would be able to admit 1,000 people per hour through the gate.
“My undersheriff pointed out there’s 20,000 people coming, let’s do some math,” Warnke said. “My undersheriff kind of took the bull by the horns and opened 14 gates and started screening people in. There was thousands of people, literally, that left before the concert started because they couldn’t get in.”
People that showed up later, closer to when Bryan went on stage around 9 p.m., didn’t have to deal with the issues of long lines once more entrances were made available.
After waiting three hours to get into the Luke Bryan Farm Tour concert, Jarrod Pimentel, of Atwater, and his family gave up and returned to their nearby ranch and listened to the concert from atop haystacks.
Pushing and shoving
Jarrod Pimentel, his wife Myshel and their group, which included their two kids, were part of the earlier group that couldn’t get in with too few fates open.
The Pimentels were excited to bring their kids to the concert, but after waiting hours in line their nine-year old daughter started getting scared when the line turned into a mob near the entrance and there was pushing and shoving. around them.
“That long line just turned into, like a massive mob at the gate,” Jarrod Pimentel said. “People were just, kind of making their way to the front. We waited for another 45 minutes to an hour, and I, my wife and my daughter were just kind of done because they had been out in the sun for three hours. We never got in. We just left.”
Instead, the Pimentel’s went to their ranch nearby and climbed up on haystacks and listened to the Luke Bryan Farm Tour 2025 at home.
“We were super excited, just because it’s in Atwater and on the base and how much the base means,” Jarrod Pimentel said. “If we didn’t have our nine year old it might have been a little bit different, but we wanted our kids to experience it.”
For many, the concert was a great experience.
Merced County Supervisor Daron McDaniel is pictured on stage during Luke Bryan’s Farm Tour 25 performance at Castle Airport with Bryan, left, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
However, many people pointed to getting through the entrance as the main problem.
“As with any large scale event at any venue, there will always be challenges,” said Merced County Supervisor Daron McDaniel, who attended the concert. “Our public safety professionals did a wonderful job and the economic impact to our community will prove to be significant. This was a great opportunity to highlight our county and fun was had by thousands upon thousands of people.”
McDaniel said he’s heard from many people who had a great time, and he’s also seen the posts on social media from people who had a horrible experience.
“I feel really bad for them,” McDaniel said. “You never want to see that for anybody. But I was watching people, whole families, having a blast. Once you were in and everything was going, it was a really nice event.”
McDaniel said Merced County officials rented the facility and Luke Bryan’s team ran the event. Castle Airport is the first of three stops on the Farm Tour. Bryan, an American Idol judge and five-time Country Music Awards Entertainer of the Year, is scheduled to perform at The Ponds at Harland Ranch in Clovis on Friday and Sillect Farms in Shafter on Saturday.
According to Warnke, only three people were arrested at the event.
“Out of 20,000 people showing up, I think that’s a success to me,” Warnke said.
Warnke said there was about 100 to 120 law enforcement officers there from the sheriff’s department, Atwater Police Department, Merced Police Department, CHP and members of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s mounted unit.
Warnke and his staff put out traffic advisories days leading up to the concert that there would be long delays in the area of Castle Air Force base. Warnke says there was traffic congestion for people leaving the concert until about 1:30 a.m., but that was expected.
The entrance fiasco was not anticipated.
“I think it could have been better,” Warnke said. “I think the success of this event is a tell tale sign about how the people felt. And when you have that many people that are disgruntled, something’s not right. They need to tweak it up, because I will tell you that the bad news is going to travel a lot faster.”
“From my perspective, their promoters sold the tickets, they made all their money, and it was like they didn’t care about the people that were waiting in line. They don’t care how they treat these people, and that’s wrong. The people in this community deserved a lot better.”
If another similar event comes this way the Pimentels will have to think long and hard about whether they’ll attend.
“If they decide to come back next year we’ll probably just stay home,” he said.

Underwater Pacific volcano expected to erupt. What would that mean for WA?
Underwater Pacific volcano expected to erupt. What would that mean for WA?
If you’ve never heard of the Axial Seamount, you’d be forgiven. But the underwater volcano has made national news recently after research suggested it is likely nearing its first eruption in 10 years.
The mountain is located around 300 miles off the northern Oregon coast, where the Pacific and Juan de Fuca plates meet — 4,600 feet below the surface.
“It’s on an ocean spreading center, which is on one side of the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate, and the other side is the side that’s subducting beneath the subduction zone,” William Wilcock, a University of Washington professor researching the volcano, told McClatchy in a phone call.
A fossilized whirl in a lava lake that was active during the April 2011 eruption of the Axial Seamount.
Will the Axial Seamount erupt soon?
The volcano has erupted three times since 1998, with the most recent one in 2015. Recently, researchers have noticed that magma build-up has caused the volcano to inflate to near the levels seen in previous eruptions.
“The model that Bill Chadwick, who’s at Oregon State University, and Scott Nooner at North Carolina, Wilmington, they basically observed… So there have been eruptions in 1998, 2011 and 2015. And they noted that the eruption in 2011 occurred at about the same amount of inflation,” Wilcock said.
The Axial Seamount is located where the Juan de Fuca Plate meets the Pacific Plate.
If the theory is correct, it will provide insight into how researchers can predict other volcanic eruptions, Wilcock said.
“Why this volcano is interesting is the magma chamber beneath the volcano is pretty shallow. It’s less than a mile deep… I think this volcano behaves in a more simple way than other volcanoes. So I think other volcanoes, they’re not as predictable like this,” Wilcock said.
Another key indicator of when the volcano will erupt is seismic activity.
At the time of a UW news release in late April, the volcano was seeing around 200 to 300 earthquakes a day on average, with that number reaching 1,000 some days. That’s well below the 2,000 earthquake-a-day average that it was seeing in the lead-up to its last eruption, and Wilcock said there’s actually been a decrease in seismic activity.
“That’s actually gone down a little bit down to more like between 100 to 200 a day at the moment, but it varies from week to week,” Wilcock said.
According to Wilcock, he expects the number of earthquakes a day to reach 500 before the volcano erupts.
“Over that six months, the number increased from basically 500 a day to 2,000 a day,” Wilcock said. “And so we’re not at 2000 a day at the moment, but then it was inflating at two feet a year. Now it’s inflating more slowly. So we might not expect quite as many, but I think I would expect at least 500 a day.”
Axial Volcano hosts numerous hydrothermal fields and sites of diffuse flow that support dense animal and microbial communities.
According to Wilcock, experts expect the volcano to erupt sometime this year or next year, but that it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when
“I think, based on the seismicity, we think it might be a little further away than the other predictions… But I think everybody would say that if it’s not going to go this year, it’s probably next year,” Wilcock said.
What happens when the Axial Seamount erupts?
While a volcanic eruption and thousands of earthquakes a day off the coast of northern Oregon might sound frightening, Wilcock said the volcano is too far away from land for its effects to be noticeable.
“These earthquakes are really small,” Wilcock said. “They’re magnitude twos and threes. It’s a very small effect, and so it’s not going to have any impact in the subduction zone 300 miles away.”
Additionally, seismic activity around the volcano isn’t linked to seismic activity on land, so it isn’t expected to trigger any earthquakes in Washington or Oregon.
It will have an effect on the marine ecosystem, but Wilcock said that the impacted species will recover quickly.
“When it erupts, you know, many of those are many of those, the ******* organisms we kill, but they will repopulate pretty quickly,” Wilcock said. “Then the nutrients that come out of the volcano are actually very good for the microbial community.”

Thorny nature reforms threaten to entangle new minister
Thorny nature reforms threaten to entangle new minister
With a reputation as a savvy negotiator, Australia’s new environment minister will need all his political nous to navigate the competing interests in the politically fraught portfolio.
Reviving long-promised nature law reforms are top of Murray Watt’s to-do list, but that will not be the only challenge of the gig.
The fate of contentious resources projects also await the attention of the Queensland senator, who was picked to replace Tanya Plibersek after she was shifted to the social services ministry.
His most pressing priority will be picking up where his predecessor left off on installing a national environment watchdog and overhauling flawed federal laws at a time when more than 2000 species are listed as threatened.
Laws designed to protect “matters of national environmental significance” from development are considered too weak by some and too stringent by others.
Responding to the 2020 Samuel review that declared the legislation ineffective and outdated, the Albanese government agreed to substantial reform.
But the so-called “nature positive plan” hit a roadblock as the election neared, when a deal Ms Plibersek squared away with the cross bench for a federal environmental protection agency was scuttled by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
He faced criticism for caving to West *********** mining interests but denied the move was done to appease industry.
National co-convenor of the Labor Environment Action Network, Felicity Wade, described the mining industry as “pretty recalcitrant” ahead of the election, before which the coalition was initially tipped to win back a swathe of seats.
“There was a perception that a change of government was possible and their preparedness to be a constructive reform participant evaporated,” Ms Wade told AAP.
The Labor group’s members are hopeful the party’s thumping election victory will bring industry back to the table.
“There are productivity and efficiency gains to be gained through this legislation, but not at the expense of the environment,” Ms Wade said.
Early indications suggest the mining lobby also wants the issue on the agenda.
Minerals Council of Australia chief executive officer Tania Constable committed to working collaboratively to reform environmental laws to provide “faster, clearer decisions” after the ministerial reshuffle.
Environmental groups, meanwhile, consider reforms of the “broken” laws long overdue, with *********** Conservation Foundation chief executive Kelly O’Shanassy calling for the issue to be knocked over in the first 12 months.
“There can be no more delays, caving to lobby groups and carving out industries,” she said.
The newly appointed environment minister is no stranger to competing priorities and has delivered on thorny issues before, such as ending live sheep exports.
*********** Council of Trade Unions president Michele O’Neil described Senator Watt as a “frank, fair and skilled negotiator who got things done”, based on her dealings with him as workplace relations minister.
“He makes sure he is on top of the detail, listens to varied perspectives and keeps his eye on the objectives,” she said.
Senator Watt has already indicated that legislating a federal environment watchdog will be one of the top priorities for the recently returned government, planning a trip to Western Australia in the coming week to meet with the premier and mining figures.
He told The Guardian in a post-appointment interview that he was weighing up ditching the “nature positive” title from its law reform in favour of “terms that Australians can understand and buy into”.
The support of the Greens, now under the leadership of Queensland senator Larissa Waters, will still be needed to pass any legislation in the new parliament, unless the coalition can be brought on board.
In the previous term, the minor party fought to broaden the reforms to include climate and forest protections.
But deals with the coalition also cannot be ruled out.
The new opposition leader, Sussan Ley, was the environment minister in the job when the Samuel review was commissioned.
Ms Wade said the opposition leader was “thoughtful” in her response to its findings and made an attempt at legislating national standards.
“Her party limited her ability to act, the million-dollar question is whether they have learnt and will respect the mandate of the Albanese government this time round,” she said.
The incoming Greens leader said Labor had a choice between working with the minor party to deliver laws that genuinely protected nature or siding with the coalition to continue the status quo.
“Do they want to do a proper job, or do they want to stick with (former coalition prime minister) John Howard’s laws from last century?” Senator Waters said after her appointment to the role.
*********** National University honorary associate professor and Biodiversity Council member Peter Burnett was hopeful Labor remained committed to its environmental protection agenda.
“Now we wait to see if the government announces any change of direction,” he said.
Legally enforceable environmental standards were foundational to the reforms and would prevent subjective ministerial decision-making, Assoc Prof Burnett added.
Basing decisions on standards – such as no land clearing in critical habitat for threatened species – and an independent EPA to enforce the rules would temper the potential for political arm-twisting.
He was critical of the way consultation was handled early in Labor’s first term, taking too long and ultimately leaving the government short on time to deliver its legislation.
“Now it’s the task of the new minister to try and get a major reform through in what is a relatively tight timeframe of a parliament,” Assoc Prof Burnett said.

Kremlin says Putin could meet Zelenskiy if certain agreements are reached
Kremlin says Putin could meet Zelenskiy if certain agreements are reached
MOSCOW (Reuters) -The Kremlin said on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could meet Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskiy, but only if certain agreements were reached.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not specify what agreements would be required from Russia’s point of view. Putin and Zelenskiy have not met since December 2019.
President Zelenskiy had challenged the Kremlin leader to meet him in Turkey this week but Putin instead sent a team of aides and officials to meet Ukrainian negotiators on Friday for the first bilateral, face-to-face talks since March 2022.
Ukraine said it had raised the issue of a Putin-Zelenskiy meeting at the talks.
Peskov said Russia considered such a meeting was possible, but only as a result of work between the two sides to “achieve certain results in the form of agreements”.
He added: “At the same time, when signing documents that the delegations are to agree upon, the main and fundamental thing for us remains who exactly will sign these documents from the Ukrainian side.”
Peskov did not elaborate on that remark. Putin has previously challenged Zelenskiy’s legitimacy as president because his elected term of office expired last year.
Ukraine, under martial law as it defends itself against Russia, has not set a date for a new election.

Huge Mastiff Helps with Home “Remodel” and His Puppy Dog Eyes Make It Impossible to Be Mad
Huge Mastiff Helps with Home “Remodel” and His Puppy Dog Eyes Make It Impossible to Be Mad
Home improvement projects are all the rage right now. People everywhere are taking on tough do-it-yourself jobs with positive end results. Unfortunately, some tasks are just too difficult and may need the help of a professional.
Meet Pooh Bear, a 6-year-old Mastiff, who can professionally “remodel” anything! He was recently called in by his dad to help with a window replacement job and he got to work right away! Ok, so maybe Pooh was not called in to help and he is actually just the reason his parents need a new windowsill!
As dad walks into the house he is met with shameful eyes and a wagging tail. Pooh Bear knew he shouldn’t have done it, but he just could not resist the delicious taste of the wood trim. Truthfully, we suspect he just wanted to play fetch and couldn’t find an adequate stick, so he made his own!
“What do you have?” is the first sentence dad utters, and Pooh gives a big dog grunt as he turns around to leave the area. Although, he does not go far and dad continues, “What have you done? Pooh Bear, why man?” The Mastiff then plops himself down in surrender, clearly embarrassed by his behavior and refuses to make eye contact. Dad then says, “Why? Awe Pooh, why?” and we can all feel his distress!
Related: Dad’s ‘Heart-to-Heart’ with Huge English Mastiff Couldn’t Be Sweeter
Honestly, as he hangs his head in shame, we can hardly be mad at this gentle giant! In fact, some views suggested it was not his fault:
“Maybe Pooh Bear was just cleaning up and the other dog ate the window?”

Top 5 Xbox Game Pass Titles in May 2025
Top 5 Xbox Game Pass Titles in May 2025
Whatever you do in life, do not underestimate the catalogue of games Xbox Game Pass has to offer. Providing millions of players with an immaculate range of titles, the service is worthy of praise and admiration as it also brings first-party titles to it at a much lower price.
A bang for a buck is the strategy of Xbox with Game Pass, and it’s proved to be highly successful for both the company and the players. If you’re new to the service, you might be overwhelmed by the number of games available. So, take a deep breath, clean up your storage space, and dive into some of the best titles the service has to offer.
5 Forza Horizon 5

Playground Games’ venture into the gorgeous landscapes of Mexico with Forza Horizon 5 is nothing short of an amazing and therapeutic experience. On one hand, you have a robust collection of cars, and on the other, you have an incredible radio system. What’s not to love about it?
From hosting street races to customising your million-dollar vehicle, this game has everything you’d want from a racing experience. Even if you’re not into the racing genre, you can simply free-roam and breathe in the beautiful sights that Mexico has to offer.
Truly one of the best titles available on Game Pass, Forza Horizon 5 has also made its way to PlayStation recently, and with the new Forza Realms update, there has never been a better time to join the race.
4 Doom: The Dark Ages
Activate the Slayer with Doom: The Dark Ages on Game Pass | Image Credit: id Software
Doom: The Dark Ages has brought the war on hell to Game Pass. Marking the third entry in the modern Doom trilogy and serving as a prequel to Doom (2016), it ditches Eternal’s fast-paced play style for a heavier gameplay. Basking in a medieval aesthetic, “Stand and Fight” is the motto as you experience a more melee-based combat, reduced mobility, and weightier executions, but don’t worry, guns are still as deadly.
Perhaps the biggest shake-up in id’s traditional Doom formula, the game also features a cohesive narrative, told through extremely well-made cutscenes and stunning visuals, a huge step-up from previous titles in that department. Plus, you get to pilot Doom Slayer’s Atlan mech and his **** dragon Serrat, which provides even more variety to the classic FPS gameplay.
A Doom game is nothing without its soundtrack, and fortunately, the composers at Finishing Move Inc. have not disappointed. It’s a brutal, gory power fantasy where you wage a war against the atrocities of hell and come out on top, every single time. Already on Game Pass, it’s a bloody good time and one of the best titles available on the platform.
3 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

One of the greatest fantasy RPGs ever made, now made even better on modern consoles, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a no-brainer if you are subscribed to Game Pass. Relive one of Bethesda’s most iconic titles with updated graphics, better performance, and robust mod support.
Hilariously, Bethesda has kept some of the bugs present in the original title, which makes the experience even better. Featuring a humongous open world, once you immerse yourself in the world of Oblivion: Remastered, there’s no going back, which is a good thing.
For those who are awaiting the much-anticipated Elder Scrolls VI, this is a great way to explore the evolution of Elder Scrolls. The entire experience reimagined, that is easier to jump into and prettier to look at, Oblivion Remastered makes for a great time on Xbox Game Pass.
2 Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Join the battle against the Covenant in Halo: The Master Chief Collection | Image Credit: Microsoft
If you’re on Game Pass and haven’t played Halo: The Master Chief Collection yet, what’s wrong with you? One of Xbox’s finest IPs, The Master Chief Collection includes six Halo titles:
Halo: Reach
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
Halo 2: Anniversary
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
Halo 4
In addition to that, each of these games also features a multiplayer mode, so squad up with your friends and relive those Xbox Live days one more time. You’re missing out on some of the greatest gaming experiences if you haven’t played this on Game Pass yet.
Master Chief and Noble 6’s journey is something that every Xbox player must experience at least once in their lives, so waste no time and download it today on Game Pass. It’s a must-have collection for newcomers who want to dive into the franchise and for veterans looking for a trip down memory lane.
1 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Sandfall Interactive’s masterpiece, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is a work of art that was created by an incredibly passionate team of 34 developers. Embark on an expedition to take down the Paintress in an emotionally charged narrative that’ll tug at your heartstrings.
Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience just because it’s turn-based. The combat system is way more engaging than other turn-based titles, since it features real-time elements such as parrying and dodging, even when it’s not your turn.
Also, consider the fact that actors like Charlie Cox, Andy Serkis, and Ben Starr play prominent roles in the game. No one’s doing it like Sandfall, so put aside your disdain for turn-based games, grab your tissues, and give this masterful experience a shot on Game Pass before tomorrow comes. You won’t regret it.

Photos show burned-out cars at Jacksonville International Airport after fire
Photos shared by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department on Saturday, May 17, give a better look at the devasting fire that swept through a Jacksonville International Airport parking garage a day earlier.
In the just-released images, several burned-out cars are shown on the third level of the hourly parking structure. According to estimates from city and airport officials, 50 vehicles were damaged in the mid-day May 16 blaze that forced the closure of JIA for several hours and the indefinite closure of the parking garage to allow experts to assess the structural safety of the building.
More on the fire: Jacksonville airport parking garage fire cancels flights, closes parking facilities
Dozens of cars were damaged May 16 when a fire swept through the third floor of the hourly parking garage at Jacksonville International Airport.
Jacksonville airport parking options limited after parking garage fire
A day after the fire that caused no serious injuries, the daily parking garage and daily surface parking lot remained closed to incoming vehicles, limiting on-airport parking mostly to the outlying “economy lots,” which were 95% full as of noon.
The hourly parking garage is a parking structure located directly across from the airport terminal, with an upper-level drop-off area for departing passengers and a lower-level pick-up area for arriving passengers separating the two buildings.
The daily parking garage structure and daily surface lot parking extend out beyond the hourly parking garage, which is used most often for short stays at the airport to drop off or pick up family members or friends who are traveling to and from the airport. The ground floor of the facility also houses several rental car pick-up and drop-off facilities.
What’s next: Heading to JIA? Parking options limited after fire sweeps through airport parking garage
Dozens of cars were damaged May 16 when a fire swept through the third floor of the hourly parking garage at Jacksonville International Airport.
What started the fire at Jacksonville International Airport?
It was too early to tell what ignited the blaze.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department chief Keith Powers said airport video indicated that the fire began in one vehicle on the second parking level and damaged an estimated 50 other cars, burning so intensely that the heat triggered a partial collapse of the garage’s second and third floors. A secondary collapse followed about 30 minutes later, he said.

Champions Kolkata out as IPL returns with a damp squib
Champions Kolkata out as IPL returns with a damp squib
The much-anticipated restart of the Indian Premier League has been delayed for another day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash with champions Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out.
Both teams received a point each but that wasn’t enough for defending champions Kolkata, who were eliminated from top-four contention with only one game remaining.
Bengaluru climbed atop the table and need only one more point to secure a place in the knockouts.
The IPL was suspended for a week due to the military showdown between India and Pakistan. The Pakistan Super League also resumed on Saturday.
The IPL final, originally scheduled for May 25, has been moved to June 3.
Saturday’s game was also supposed to mark an emotional return to the playing arena for India great Virat Kohli, who announced his Test retirement last Monday.
Fans arrived in great numbers wearing a white jersey to honour the ace batter, who played 123 Tests for India and finished just short of 10,000 Test runs.
Kohli has 505 runs in this IPL, the fourth-highest tally. However, he never stood a chance of batting at home thanks to incessant rain in Bengaluru since Friday evening.
The Royal Challengers have two remaining round-robin games against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23 and Lucknow Super Giants on May 27, while Kolkata’s last game is against already-eliminated Hyderabad on May 25.
Sunday’s double-header features Rajasthan Royals hosting Ricky Ponting-coached Punjab Kings in Jaipur, and Delhi Capitals, without their key quick Mitchell Starc who’s decided not to return to India, taking on Gujarat Titans in New Delhi.

A ban on buying and selling stocks and options by members of Congress continues to heat up with a new bill proposed and several notable figures, including President Donald Trump, supporting the effort.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) is also in favor of a ban according to recent comments.
What Happened: Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has introduced the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments Act, or PELOSI Act based on the first letter of each of the main words. The name takes aim at Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Pelosi, whose husband is a frequent stock trader and venture capitalist, likely doesn’t support the bill that would limit her husband’s transactions while she’s in office.
Trending: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — you can become an investor for $0.80 per share today.
One person showing support for the bill is Johnson, who, according to Benzinga’s Government Trades page, has not bought and sold any stocks.
“I’m in favor of that,” Johnson told reporters recently. “I don’t think we should have any appearance of impropriety.”
Johnson acknowledged that the counterargument to the ban is that Congress members’ salaries haven’t kept up with inflation, and if this trend continues, there could be fewer qualified people running for Congress.
The Speaker said that stock trading activity by members of Congress has been ruined by “a few bad actors.”
“I think it’s been abused in the past.”
Johnson said there is zero tolerance for “anything resembling insider trading.”
President Trump also recently said he would support such a ban, and that he would sign the bill if it was passed by Congress
“Well, I watched Nancy Pelosi get rich through insider information, and I would be okay with it. If they send it to me, I would do it,” Trump told TIME.

Why It’s Important: Hawley said the bill will help “restore Americans’ trust in our nation’s legislative body.”
“Members of Congress should be fighting for the people they were elected to serve — not day trading at the expense of their constituents,” Hawley said. “Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public.”
Story Continues
With ongoing debates about potential conflicts of interest in congressional trading, Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) previously told Benzinga he would continue advocating for a congressional vote to ban the practice.
“We should have a vote on it,” Khanna told Benzinga.
Khanna said that despite his continued speeches in the House advocating for a ban on stock trading, there is a “collective shrug” in Congress regarding the issue.
Members of Congress are currently allowed to buy and sell stocks and options as long as they properly disclose the transactions within 45 days.
Multiple transactions have been flagged by Benzinga and other outlets that point to potential conflicts of interest over the timing of the trades.
While Pelosi makes headlines for her trades, it’s important to remember that both Republican and Democratic members of Congress are profiting from buying and selling stocks and options while in office. Some trades have questionable timing or are connected to committees they serve on.
An analysis of recent trading activity highlights the members of Congress with the highest number of transactions and largest dollar volumes—those most active in stock trading.
Thomas Kean Jr., Representative (R-N.J.)
Josh Gottheimer, Representative (D-N.J.)
Julie Johnson, Representative (D-Texas)
Markwayne Mullin, Senator (R-Okla.)
Tommy Tuberville, Senator (R-Ala.)
Marjorie Taylor Greene, Representative (R-Ga.)
Nancy Pelosi, Representative (D-Calif.)
There are also the best traders by return in 2024 as tracked by UnusualWhales.
Here’s a look at the top 10 for 2024:
David Rouzer (R-N.C.), Representative, +149.0%
Debbie Schultz (D-Fla.), Representative, +142.3%
Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Senator, +123.8%
Roger Williams (R-Texas), Representative, +111.2%
Morgan McGarvey (D-Ky.), Representative, +105.8%
Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), Representative, +98.6%
Pete Sessions (R-Texas), Representative, +77.5%
Susan Collins (R-Maine), Senator, +77.5%
David Kustoff (R-Tenn.), Representative, +71.5%
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Representative, +70.9%
Several of these figures have appeared on past lists. Rouzer was ranked fourth in the 2023 report and seventh in the 2021 report. Schultz ranked second in the 2022 report. Wyden ranked sixth in the 2023 report. Sessions ranked 10th in the 2023 report. Pelosi was ranked ninth in the 2023 report and ranked sixth in the 2021 report.
A ban on congressional stock trading would fulfill a long-standing call from retail investors and tracking sites alike. It could also mean the end of ETFs that track Congressional trading activity, such as the Unusual Whales Subversive Democratic Trading ETF (BATS:NANC) and the Unusual Whales Subversive Republican Trading ETF (BATS:GOP).
Hawley’s bill does not mention cryptocurrency like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), with several members of Congress buying Bitcoin and Bitcoin ETFs over the last year as the U.S. looks to establish a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve.
The PELOSI Act is unlikely to pass Congress this year. On the prediction market Polymarket, there is only a 14% chance that Congress stock trading will be banned in 2025. On Kalshi, the odds are currently listed at 11%.
