Retegui makes Atalanta history in win over Genoa
Retegui makes Atalanta history in win over Genoa
Mateo Retegui made history on Saturday. And against the team he used to play for.
Retegui set an Atalanta scoring record in a Serie A season when his 25th goal snatched a 3-2 win at Genoa.
The previous record was 24 by Filippo Inzaghi in 1996-97.
Retegui is also waiting to be crowned the league’s top goal-scorer this season, as he has seven more than his nearest challenger.
He is in his first season at Atalanta after joining from Genoa in August.
It was the only match in the penultimate round with only pride to play for. The other nine matches kick off at the same time on Sunday, when Napoli could win Serie A.
Atalanta had already secured third spot in Serie A, and Genoa were comfortably mid-table.
Genoa took the lead when Andrea Pinamonti headed an Aaron Martin cross to end a three-month goal drought.
Ibrahim Sulemana leveled for Atalanta immediately after the break with a fine strike from distance.
Pinamonti doubled his tally in the 58th, squeezing a finish into the bottom near corner after some woeful Atalanta defending.
Daniel Maldini hauled Atalanta level again five minutes later after a Marten De Roon through ball was allowed by a smart Retegui ******.
Atalanta turned the match around completely with a minute remaining when Charles De Ketelaere raced down the right before rolling across for Retegui to sweep home.
The Italy forward didn’t celebrate against his former team.

Cinnamon in Your Coffee Cup? Here’s What It Might Do for Your Blood Sugar
Cinnamon in Your Coffee Cup? Here’s What It Might Do for Your Blood Sugar
When it comes to your morning coffee, a sprinkle of cinnamon after your milk or sugar is a delicious finishing touch. But this cozy ingredient might offer more than just a taste upgrade. Some people believe adding cinnamon to coffee can help stabilize blood sugar levels, a claim that’s especially intriguing for anyone managing type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. But is there any science behind it? We looked into the research and spoke to healthcare professionals to understand how cinnamon affects blood sugar and how to try this trend safely.
Can cinnamon lower your blood sugar?
“Cinnamon contains bioactive compounds like cinnamaldehyde, polyphenols and flavonoids that contribute to its anti-diabetic potential,” explains Jennifer Pallian, BSc, RD, founder of Foodess. “In particular, these compounds enhance insulin sensitivity, promote insulin secretion and regulate glucose metabolism.” In other words, both Ceylon and Cassia varieties of cinnamon can mimic insulin by helping glucose enter cells more easily.
Pallian says that cinnamon may also help slow the digestion of carbohydrates, specifically enzymes like a-amylase and a-glucosidase. This can prevent blood sugar spikes after meals. Plus, its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can further improve insulin sensitivity and stabilize blood glucose levels.
Adding cinnamon to coffee may offer a convenient way to incorporate this spice into your routine. Especially since coffee itself, when unsweetened, has also been linked to modest blood sugar benefits.
What the research says about cinnamon and blood sugar
“There are some systematic reviews that show that supplementation with cinnamon can help with blood sugar control and reduce HbA1c by about 0.6 percent,” says Ayanna Smart, RD, founder of The Dementia Dietitian. A 2024 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that cinnamon may improve glucose control for people who have obesity-related prediabetes.
However, this study and most others used cinnamon supplements in capsule form at standardized doses, not as a sprinkle in your latte. Furthermore, Smart adds, “None of the studies in these two systematic reviews looked at cinnamon for blood sugar control for longer than a few months.” Long-term effectiveness or potential side effects remain unclear.
“Cinnamon is not a magic pill,” emphasizes Pallian. “More reliable and impactful improvements come from comprehensive lifestyle modifications.” Still, enjoying a small amount of cinnamon daily can be a helpful tool alongside a balanced diet, regular exercise and medication if needed.
How to safely add cinnamon to your coffee
If you’re curious about trying cinnamon in coffee to help lower your blood sugar, it’s generally safe for most people. That said, there are a few guidelines worth following:
Stick to ½ to 1 tsp. per day. That’s the amount most of these studies use to see noticeable health benefits, says Jessica Jones, MS, RDN, CDCES, CEO and co-founder of Diabetes Digital.
Choose Ceylon cinnamon when possible. “I recommend using Ceylon cinnamon if you plan to use it daily,” says Jones. “The more common kind—Cassia cinnamon—has a compound called coumarin that can be harmful [to your liver] in large amounts.”
Avoid sugary coffee drinks. Adding cinnamon to a high-sugar drink won’t help your blood sugar much. For best results, mix it into ****** coffee or one with minimal added sugar.
Can everyone use cinnamon in coffee for better blood sugar control?
While cinnamon is generally safe, it’s not for everyone. “If someone’s on medications that affect blood sugar, they should always check with their doctor or dietitian before adding in supplements or high doses of anything,” advises Jones. That’s because it may slightly lower blood sugar or have mild blood-thinning effects.
Additionally, if you notice any symptoms like mouth irritation, nausea or digestive discomfort after adding cinnamon to your coffee, it’s best to scale back and consult a healthcare provider. Some people may be sensitive to its active compounds.
The bottom line on cinnamon in coffee
Cinnamon in coffee won’t replace medication or lifestyle changes when it comes to lowering your blood sugar. “It’s not going to do the heavy lifting on its own,” reminds Jones. “It can be a helpful addition, but the biggest impact comes from building consistent habits that support blood sugar balance.” If you do sprinkle a bit in your cup, just be sure to choose the right type of cinnamon, stick to moderate amounts and keep your coffee as low-sugar as possible.

Wisconsin judge accused of helping a man dodge immigration agents seeks donations for attorneys
Wisconsin judge accused of helping a man dodge immigration agents seeks donations for attorneys
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin judge charged with helping a man illegally evade immigration agents is seeking donations to fund her court defense.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan announced Friday that she’s set up a fund to cover the costs of her defense. The fund issued a statement saying that the case against her is an “unprecedented attack on the independent judiciary by the federal government.”
Dugan has hired a group of high-powered lawyers led by former U.S. Attorney Steve Biskupic. She’s looking to tap into anger on the left over the case to help pay them. Dozens of people demonstrated outside Dugan’s arraignment Thursday at the federal courthouse in Milwaukee, demanding she be set free and accusing the Trump administration of going too far.
Federal prosecutors allege Eduardo Flores-Ruiz was in Dugan’s courtroom on April 18 for a hearing in a domestic violence case when Dugan learned immigration agents were in the courthouse looking to arrest him. According to court documents, Flores-Ruiz illegally returned to the U.S. after he was deported in 2013.
Angry that agents were in the courthouse and calling the situation “absurd,” Dugan led Flores-Ruiz out a back door in her courtroom, according to an FBI affidavit. Agents eventually captured him following a foot chase outside the building.
FBI agents arrested Dugan at the county courthouse on April 25. A grand jury on Tuesday indicted her on one count of obstruction and one count of concealing a person to prevent arrest. The charges carry a total maximum sentence of six years in federal prison.
Dugan pleaded not guilty during her arraignment. Her attorneys have filed a motion seeking to dismiss the case, arguing that she was controlling movement in her courtroom in her official capacity as a judge and therefore is immune from prosecution.
The state Supreme Court suspended Dugan following her arrest. A reserve judge has taken over her cases.
The fund statement said that Dugan plans to resume her work as a judge and they won’t accept contributions that could compromise her judicial integrity. She will accept money only from U.S. citizens but won’t take donations from Milwaukee County residents; attorneys who practice in the county; lobbyists; judges; parties with pending matters before any Milwaukee County judge; and county employees. She will accept money they would take money only from U.S. citizens.
Former state Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske will manage the fund.

Crystal Palace win FA Cup: How Oliver Glasner led Eagles to first major trophy
Crystal Palace win FA Cup: How Oliver Glasner led Eagles to first major trophy
Parish insists Glasner’s position was never in doubt having witnessed his work and upbeat nature on the training ground. This day, when a new chapter was written in Palace’s history, is the payback for that show of faith.
Glasner has devised the perfect system to suit the attacking trio of Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Mateta, the latter the spearhead and focal point, the others drifting behind with freedom and menace.
Palace have strengths elsewhere, with Munoz directly involved in 13 goals in all competitions this season – six goals and seven assists, the joint-most of any defender for Premier League clubs in 2024-25 alongside Tottenham’s Pedro Porro.
The Eagles’ back three of Chris Richards, Lacroix and Guehi have been rock solid, even though Palace lost influential captain Guehi after 61 minutes at Wembley following a blow to the head.
And, crucially on the big occasions when margins are fine, Palace also possess an X-factor.
Glasner’s big players, those he was convinced would come out of that early-season slump, have delivered throughout this FA Cup journey, and were heroes again against City.
Eze’s crisp 16th-minute strike settled this final, finishing off a classic Palace counter-attack with a sweeping finish past City keeper Stefan Ortega.
It was Palace’s first shot and first touch inside the penalty box, but with such economy and ruthlessness came the decisive moment.
The gifted forward set Palace on their way at Fulham in the quarter-final then Aston Villa in the semi-final at Wembley.
When, as they will be forever, stories of Palace’s FA Cup win are told, Eze’s name will be permanently attached.

I’m 57 and ready to retire next year on $7,500 a month, but my wife says no. Who’s right?
“I also have about $300,000 in a 401(k).” (Photo subject is a model.) – Getty Images/iStockphoto
I am 57 and want to retire next year. I will have two defined-benefit pensions that should bring in close to $7,500 per month. I also have $300,000 in a 401(k). My wife has a 403(b) that currently sits at $650,000. We currently have a mortgage of $1,400 per month and very little debt beyond that. My health-insurance premium through my employer-sponsored plan will be $880 per month, which drops to $567 per month when I hit 60. I say I can retire, my wife says no. She will be 60 as well next year. Thoughts?
Ready to Retire
Related: I’m 63 and planning to retire. I watched in horror as the markets tanked. Will I have enough to get me to my 90s?
This is not a decision that should (a) be taken lightly and (b) be taken without the guidance of a financial adviser who goes through your assets in forensic detail. – MarketWatch illustration
There’s no denying it: $7,500 a month is a lot. But if you retire next year, brace yourself for 30 years on a fixed income.
Your question is multiple questions rolled into one: You say your two defined pension plans will bring in $7,500 a month, but for how long? Are you withdrawing 4% from those plans or less? How long do you expect to live? Are you in good health? Have you factored in private health insurance until your Medicare kicks in, or will your wife continue working and provide you both with employer-sponsored health insurance? Do you dislike your job? Could you work part-time? When will your mortgage be paid off?
This is not a decision that should (a) be taken lightly and (b) be taken without the guidance of a financial adviser who goes through your assets in forensic detail. They will ask you what kind of retirement you envision for yourself: vacations, hobbies, income etc. It’s a tempting and exciting prospect. Sure, everyone deserves some downtime, even if not every American can afford to retire, but your wife is exercising caution for both your sakes. She’s not trying to negate your wishes; she’s trying to make sure you both have a secure and comfortable financial future.
You could possibly retire on $1 million, to pick a round number, but there’s no guarantee that it will last you for the rest of your life. Using the 4% rule — withdrawing 4% of your nest annually over a 30-year ******* — you would take out $40,000. U.S. adults, on average, say they’ll need $1.46 million to retire comfortably, up 15% over the $1.27 million reported last year, according to a recent study by Northwestern Mutual. People’s “magic number” for retirement savings has risen 53% from the $951,000 target Americans reported in 2020.
Story Continues
You may experience unforeseen health events as you age, and you should obviously make sure you’re fully covered before you turn 65, if you do decide to retire early. The average premium for single coverage health insurance last year was $8,951 annually, according to KFF, while the average premium for family coverage was $25,572 per year in 2024. You may also wish to think about long-term care insurance. Long-term-care policies cost more the older you get; a person who waits until 65 to purchase such a policy pays around $3,135 a year, AARP says.
Don’t miss: Alessandra Malito’s Help Me Retire column
The Social Security Administration and AARP provide retirement calculators that attempt to answer the question of whether you have enough money to retire. You can input your assets, projected retirement spending, life-expectancy assumptions and tax estimates. Longevity is a big unknown factor. The average U.S. male who reaches the age of 65 can expect to live to around 82, according to the SSA. Retirement calculators are also useful in that they can encourage financially savvy people to save more when they see what’s ahead, research shows.
If you do retire at 58, will you be able to hold off on claiming Social Security until you can maximize your benefits? Most people — 28.4% of men and 26.5% of women — take Social Security when they reach full retirement age, which is between 65 and 67, depending on the year a person was born. Meanwhile, 8.4% of men and 9.3% of women wait until age 70 or later to take their benefits, according to data from the Social Security Administration. Social Security offers a bump in your benefit amount if you wait until 70.
You get 100% of your Social Security benefit at full retirement age, which is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or after, and you receive a lesser amount if you claim at any time from 62 until full retirement age. If you wait until age 70, you receive roughly 8% more per year. Some advisers say it can work out roughly the same whether you start taking your benefits at 62 or at 70 — once again, it all depends on how long you live. Given the possibility of survivor benefits and spousal benefits, this is a conversation you and your wife can have together.
Research published by economists at the Federal Reserve and Boston University recommended that “virtually all” workers ages 45 to 62 should wait until after they turn 65 to draw their Social Security, and more than 90% should hold out until they are 70. For people born in 1960 or later, like you, full retirement age is 67. Social Security is an insurance policy against living longer than you think you might. Even if you delay claiming Social Security, you still need to sign up for Medicare at age 65. Working part-time could be a compromise.
You have given yourself a year to make up your mind. Use the time wisely to explore your future financial landscape.

Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix: Lando Norris says he is ‘just not good enough’ in qualifying
Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix: Lando Norris says he is ‘just not good enough’ in qualifying
The Spaniard’s showing was his team’s best of what has so far been a difficult year and it comes as a result of a major upgrade on the car that has – at least partly – been influenced by their new managing technical partner, Adrian Newey, the design legend who joined in March.
His team-mate Lance Stroll qualified in eighth place.
“For the whole team to be with both cars in Q3, it really lifts a little bit of pressure from the shoulders of everyone in the team,” Alonso said.
“The package that we introduced yesterday, we had some positive results, but you never know until you go to qualifying.
“We need to keep the feet on the ground, and maybe the track characteristics, it does help the Aston, so we’ll need to see in Monaco and Barcelona. But so far, happy with the improvement.”
However, the 43-year-old emphasised that while he was “happy to be fifth”, it was not close to his or the team’s ambitions.
“I want to be in Australia (at the start of the season) next year and win the race,” Alonso said.
“It’s going to be a tactical race. As always in Imola, it’s difficult to overtake. Less stops possible for everyone because then you cannot overtake on track.
“I expect to have a good start, good strategy, and let’s see the pace. I think it’s not as good as P5, so I’m ready to lose a couple of positions, but hopefully not too many.”
Piastri spoke about his determination to ensure he kept the lead at the start.
“As long as I can get a good start, then confident,” he said. “It’s a difficult track to overtake on. Our pace has been strong. Our long-run pace yesterday looked very encouraging. So yeah, as long as I can get a good start and have a good first lap, then that would be good.”
Verstappen, who said his car was better balanced than on Friday when he had struggled with race pace, said: “I’ll just try to do a good start and see where I’m at with the pace, because yesterday wasn’t particularly good in the long run also.
“And then yeah, just see with the new set-up we have on the car. Hopefully it all sticks a bit better on the Tarmac and, hopefully, in general a bit more competitive.”

The Secret to Happiness Seems to Depend Upon You, Study Finds
The Secret to Happiness Seems to Depend Upon You, Study Finds
Humans have achieved some incredible feats in our brief existence. Behind our collective triumphs, however, many of us still struggle to feel happy.
The pursuit of happiness is ancient, with countless generations mulling the sources of their own and others’ contentment. In modern times, psychologists have tried to measure and boost happiness en masse as a matter of public health, with projects like the World Happiness Report.
Yet while modern science has shed new light on happiness, the mechanics involved remain poorly understood. According to a new study, it might help to adopt a more personalized approach, focusing on individual differences that could be lost in aggregated, population-level research.
“We have to understand the sources of happiness to build effective interventions,” says first author Emorie Beck, a psychology researcher at the University of California, Davis.
As previous research has shown, socioeconomic factors wield significant influence on happiness, including things like health, wealth, social connections, and job satisfaction.
This informs the ‘bottom-up’ model of happiness, which focuses on how external factors can determine our standing in certain life domains, possibly swaying our satisfaction. This view tends to favor broader policies to promote public happiness more than personal interventions.
“But we all know people in our lives who experience traumatic events yet seem to be happy,” Beck says. Many people report happiness that apparently defies their circumstances; some muster satisfaction or joy in difficult conditions, while others struggle despite apparent advantages.
The ‘top-down’ model of happiness focuses more on this angle, with less emphasis on external factors themselves than on how people think and feel about them. It favors interventions like therapy or meditation, targeting personal traits and attitudes rather than outside factors.
With compelling evidence for both models, many researchers now prefer a third, bidirectional view of happiness, accounting for complex interaction between bottom-up and top-down effects.
Plenty of questions remain, however, including key details about how such diverse factors interact to shape a person’s happiness – and whether it works the same way for everyone.
In the new study, Beck and her colleagues explore the possibility that it doesn’t. Instead of dwelling on debates over different models of happiness, they suggest paying more attention to individual people.
“Here we propose a reframing of this question, asking not whether top-down, bottom-up or bidirectional theories are correct, but rather for whom they are correct,” they write.
The researchers measured associations between life and domain satisfaction at the population and individual level, using data from more than 40,000 subjects.
These were nationally representative panels of people from Australia, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, all of whom had periodically responded to life-satisfaction surveys for up to 33 years.
The surveys measured global life satisfaction over time, plus specific satisfaction in five life domains: health, housing, income, relationships, and work.
“What comes out is that we see roughly equal groups that demonstrate each pattern,” Beck says. “Some are bottom up; some are top down, the domains don’t affect their happiness; some are bidirectional and some are unclear.”
Roughly half of subjects showed primarily one-way associations between domain satisfactions and life satisfaction, the study found, and about a quarter showed mainly bidirectional associations.
Some subjects showed no clear link between domain satisfactions and overall life satisfaction, suggesting these exert little or no influence on one another, although it’s unclear why.
These findings highlight possible limitations of population-level happiness research, which may not capture important individual differences.
The researchers suggest happiness may be easier to promote with a more personalized approach, and less emphasis on broad models, although more research is still needed to determine how this might work.
“These things are treated separately, but they aren’t really. They feed into each other at a personal level,” Beck says.
The study was published in Nature Human Behavior.

FA Cup final: Erling Haaland’s Wembley goal drought continues
FA Cup final: Erling Haaland’s Wembley goal drought continues
City dominated the opening stages and Haaland had a hooked effort clawed out by the inspired Henderson, but Palace hit them on the break as Eberechi Eze swept home the goal in the 16th minute that ultimately won Palace the match.
The defeated opposition players paid due respect to Palace by waiting for the opposition to lift the trophy before slipping off with their heads bowed down the tunnel.
Haaland, though, hung about on the pitch with his runners-up medal weighing heavily around his neck, probably contemplating how this season had gone so wrong.
Palace players revelled in winning the first major trophy in the club’s history and Haaland’s compatriots celebrated the national day of Norway, but the striker himself had little to cheer.
There was also a changing of the guard in City’s midfield as the departing Kevin de Bruyne was unable to end his illustrious career at the club on a high with a trophy, while 19-year-old Argentine Claudio Echeverri was given his debut in the second half.
“This season has been a massive disappointment for Manchester City,” Richards said.
“Pep Guardiola has talked about that throughout the season. The players have not met the levels they’ve set in recent years.
“For City, we are looking at a rebuild – it’s obvious for everyone to see – although at times today they did really well.”
Guardiola said: “We didn’t score so congratulations to Crystal Palace for the victory – we did everything.
“Today we were more aggressive. If you’re not going to score goals, you’re not going to win.”
As the ticker tape rained down, the Bee Gees’ classic ‘Stayin Alive’ pumped out over the speakers.
Haaland and his team-mates will need to do just that in their remaining two Premier League games if they are to finish in the top five in what is turning into a forgettable campaign.

Palm Springs explosion: One dead after blast in California at IVF clinic in possible ‘intentional act’
An explosion in California has killed at least one person, with the FBI now on the scene of a reproductive centre and local hospital conducting a forensic investigation.
The blast occurred around 11am on Saturday (local time) on Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, with mixed reports claiming it was either a gas explosion from a medical facility or a car explosion.
It is understood that police have not yet identified the body.
Local Government released a statement asking locals to “stay away”.
“The City of Palm Springs would like to advise the community that just before 11 am this morning an explosion occurred on North Indian Canyon Drive near East Tachevah Drive, Palm Springs,” the statement said.
“Police and Fire are currently on scene and request that residents stay away from the area so that emergency crews can work the incident.
“More details will follow.”
Crews were seen responding to the American Reproductive centre and the nearby local hospital, Desert Regional Medical Centre.

US Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed investigations are underway to confirm whether the blast was an “intentional act”.
“We are aware of the explosion that occurred this morning in Palm Springs. FBI is on scene and will be investigating whether this was an intentional act,” Mr Essayli wrote on X.
“We will release as much information as possible once we are able to confirm details.”
Locals said the blast rocked the entire city of Palm Springs.
Nima Tabrizi, 37, of Santa Monica, said he was inside a cannabis dispensary nearby when he felt a massive explosion.
“The building just shook, and we go outside and there’s massive cloud smoke,” they said.
“Crazy explosion. It felt like a bomb went off.
“We went up to the scene, and we saw human remains.”
Palm Springs is a tiny community in the desert about a two-hour drive west of Los Angeles, known for upscale resorts and a history of celebrity residents.

Cathie Wood buys $2.7M surging China tech stock after tariff talks
Cathie Wood buys $2.7M surging China tech stock after tariff talks
Cathie Wood, founder and chief of Ark Investment Management, is best known for backing cutting-edge tech like AI and robotics, with most of her investments focused on U.S. companies.
But this week, she made a move in China, picking up $2.7 million worth of a ******** tech stock as trade tensions between Washington and Beijing showed signs of easing.
Don’t miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet’s free daily newsletter
In early April, President Donald Trump raised tariffs on ******** goods to as high as 145%, setting off tensions between the world’s two biggest economies and triggering a sharp market sell-off.
Last week, the two sides reached a deal in Geneva: the U.S. will cut those tariffs to 30% for the next three months, while China agreed to lower its own duties on U.S. imports to 10% from 125%.
Wood’s funds saw a brief bump after Trump won the presidency last November, but that momentum didn’t go far. Her flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) underperformed both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite through March and April amid broader market volatility.
However, as of May 16, ARKK has started to recover, showing a 1.32% gain for the year, slightly ahead of the S&P 500’s 1.30% gain and outperforming the Nasdaq’s 0.52% loss.
Wood gained a remarkable 153% in 2020, which helped build her reputation and attract loyal investors. Still, her long-term performance has made many others skeptical of her aggressive style.
As of May 16, Ark Innovation ETF, with $5 billion under management, has delivered a five-year annualized return of just 0.59%. In comparison, the S&P 500 has an annualized return of 17.57% over the same *******.

Wood’s investment strategy is straightforward: Her Ark ETFs typically buy shares in emerging high-tech companies in fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, biomedical technology, and robotics.
Wood says these companies have the potential to reshape industries, but their volatility leads to major fluctuations in Ark funds’ values.

The Ark Innovation ETF wiped out $7 billion in investor wealth over the 10 years ending in 2024, according to an analysis by Morningstar’s analyst Amy Arnott. That made it the third-biggest wealth destroyer among mutual funds and ETFs in Arnott’s ranking.
Wood says the U.S. is coming out of a three-year “rolling recession” and heading into a productivity-led recovery that could trigger a broader bull market.
In a letter to investors published on April 30, she dismissed predictions of a recession dragging into 2026, as she expects “more clarity on tariffs, taxes, regulations, and interest rates over the next three to six months.”
Story Continues
“If the current tariff turmoil results in freer trade, as tariffs and non-tariff barriers come down in tandem with declines in other taxes, regulations, and interest rates, then real GDP growth and productivity should surprise on the high side of expectations at some point during the second half of this year,” she wrote.
She also struck an optimistic tone for tech stocks.
“During the current turbulent transition in the U.S., we think consumers and businesses are likely to accelerate the shift to technologically enabled innovation platforms including artificial intelligence, robotics, energy storage, blockchain technology, and multiomics sequencing,” she said.
Not all investors share Wood’s optimism. The Ark Innovation ETF has seen a net outflow of $2.01 billion over the past 12 months through May 14, with $208.41 million exiting in the past month, according to ETF research firm VettaFi.
On May 12, Wood’s Ark Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (ARKQ) bought 30,217 shares of Baidu Inc (BIDU) . That chunk of stock is valued at roughly $2.7 million.
Primarily known as China’s top search engine, Baidu has shifted its focus to artificial intelligence and autonomous mobility. The company recently launched its new AI model, Ernie X1 and Ernie 4.5, positioning itself as a rival to OpenAI and DeepSeek.
This isn’t Wood’s first move on Baidu or on ******** tech in general. In the early 2020s, she was bullish on major ******** tech names, building sizable positions in Baidu, Tencent, and JD.com.

By early 2021, The Ark funds held nearly 5 million shares of Baidu, worth around $1 billion, reflecting her optimism on China’s market momentum and Baidu’s push into electric vehicles, a play that echoed her long-standing position in Tesla (TSLA) .
However, Wood’s China investment hit hard in 2021 as Beijing’s regulatory crackdown on tech firms intensified, and she gradually reduced her stakes. By the third quarter of 2022, Ark had fully exited Baidu.
Wood returned to the name on March 24 this year, buying 129,451 shares — her first Baidu purchase in over two years. She added another 136,773 shares in April, followed by this latest May buy. Baidu shares are up roughly 6% in the past month.
In a March interview with Bloomberg, Wood talked about how Robin Li, Baidu’s CEO, is working to grow the company’s self-driving business.
More Tech Stocks:
“We had a conversation very recently with Robin Li and his team and we understand how competitive the market is in China for both autonomous mobility and large language models. But we are looking at how Robin Li is pushing the envelope. Wuhan is the toughest in China. He can take learnings from that robotaxi experience into other markets,” Wood said.
“We believe that autonomous mobility in the next 5 to 10 years is going to scale globally to an $8 to $10 trillion market. If Baidu were to get any of that market even outside of China in the rest of Asia, we think that’s not at all discounted in the stock,” she added.
Baidu stock is up 6.29% year-to-date.

Scheffler moves to the top as PGA resumes after rain
Scheffler moves to the top as PGA resumes after rain
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has made an ominous step on a weather-delayed ‘moving day’ in the PGA Championship, cruising into a tie for the lead after seven holes of the third round at Quail Hollow.
Halfway leader Jhonattan Vegas eventually set off in his penultimate round after a near three-and-a-half hour weather delay on Saturday which forced organisers to send players off in groups of three from split tees.
Moments before the first tee shot had been scheduled to be hit, the ***** sounded, forcing players off the course for the lengthy stoppage and prompting the rethink by organisers, who sent players off from the first and 10th tees instead of everyone starting at the par-4 first in pairs.
But once play began shortly before midday, the heavyweight LIV Golf duo of Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm both made quick starts to inch up the leaderboard, with the 40-year-old Venezuelan Vegas, who had set off two shots clear, getting toppled from the lead in the early stages.
Instead, it was South Korea’s Kim Si-woo who moved into the lead after birdieing the par-3 fourth to go seven under, only to be joined by playing partner Scheffler, who joined him after three birdies in four holes following an opening bogey.
World No.70 Vegas, riding high after firing consecutive under-par rounds for the first time in 17 major championship starts, was still in the thick of the battle but bogeys at the first two holes left him a shot behind alongside DeChambeau and New Zealander Ryan Fox.
Adam Scott was impressing through the first dozen holes, having gained a stroke to par and moved to within four of the leaders, while a charging Rahm was three under for his round to move to five under after 14, just a couple off the pace.
Cam Davis was at level par after dropping a couple of shots in his first 13 holes while the other *********** cut-survivor Elvis Smylie reached the turn at two over after a birdie sandwiched between two bogeys.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy was still at one over, having made no impression over his first seven holes on the day that tournament officials insisted they did not have “any concerns about player intent” after the Masters champ’s driver had been deemed to be non-conforming ahead of the PGA.
It emerged on Friday that the driver McIlroy had planned to use had failed tests conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA) on Tuesday, forcing the world No.2 to use a replacement.
The Masters champion struggled off the tee during a first round of 74 but made the halfway cut on the mark of one over par, following a second round of 69.
