Microsoft CEO Boasts Game Pass & Xbox Cloud Gaming Records, 4 Million Players for Indiana Jones Microsoft CEO Boasts Game Pass & Xbox Cloud Gaming Records, 4 Million Players for Indiana Jones neomahi12h ago Shakeup. Why does everyone keep saying that or acting like something huge has just transpired? Nothing’s gonna change. NOTHING. A shake up would be PlayStation regaining confidence in their own hardware and acknowledging they don’t need PC. If Nintendo, who has the most to lose if gaming folds, Microsoft just going back to making office software and Sony going back to, well, the only company with and end-to-end ecosystem, Nintendo has nothing to do back to. They’ve proven Console Exclusivity does sell as they’re about to dethrone the number 1 selling console of all time…..AND ALL OF THEIR GAMES ARE 100% ON THEIR HARDWARE with no possibility of EVER being on the competitions hardware…. So why is PlayStation following the one company that’s failing? Xbox went to PC because they were desperate, they were losing the console market because of their long list of screwups, and PlayStation wants to follow that rather than remain on top where they’ve been since they started? That would be a shake up going back to their roots like Nintendo does having full faith in their hardware. Porting to PC makes them look weak. When Nintendo starts porting to PC and the competition, come back and I’ll say you’re right. But don’t tell me console exclusives don’t sell hardware. You’re not gonna see anything different, in fact, I think it’ll get worse with the same two at the helm Source link #Microsoft #CEO #Boasts #Game #Pass #Xbox #Cloud #Gaming #Records #Million #Players #Indiana #Jones Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  11. Top Analysts’ Picks for 2025: 3 of Morgan Stanley’s Favorites Top Analysts’ Picks for 2025: 3 of Morgan Stanley’s Favorites Among sell-side analysts on Wall Street, Morgan Stanley is one of the most well-known. The company’s large investment banking business, which generated $6.1 billion in revenue in fiscal 2024, contributes to the scope of its equity coverage. Below, I’ll detail three stocks that are among the “Top Picks” of Morgan Stanley (NYSE:) analysts. All return and implied upside figures use prices as of the Jan. 27 close. 1. Seagate: More Data Means More Storage First up is Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:). Morgan Stanley’s price target for the hardware company currently stands at $129. This implies that shares of Seagate could rise 25% in order to reach that level. Seagate is a leading manufacturer of hard disk drives (HDDs). This is where computers store files. HDDs can store lots of data at a lower price than solid-state drives (SSDs). Their disadvantage is that they are slower than SSDs, making them ideal for storing data that doesn’t need to be frequently accessed. This includes things like record retention, video, and data backups. Seagate’s fiscal Q2 2025 earnings release resulted in Morgan Stanley raising expectations for the stock. The firm beat estimates on adjusted earnings per share significantly. Much of the bull case for Seagate centers around the idea of data storage becoming increasingly important. The firm’s Chief Executive Officer, William Mosely, highlighted this in the context of AI. He noted in the earnings call that “HDDs play a crucial role in housing the massive data sets required for training AI models.” They store data when advanced chips don’t need to actively process it. The firm’s HDD revenue increased 57% from the prior year. Mass capacity devices now make up 87% of the firm’s HDD sales, up 10% from fiscal Q2 2024. This indicates increasing adoption from large customers who need to store huge amounts of data. It will be interesting to see if analysts change their view on the firm, given news surrounding DeepSeek AI that sent AI-driven stocks plummeting. 2. Robinhood: Trump Helps This Crypto Trading Platform Morgan Stanley recently added Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:) to the company’s “Financials’ Finest” list. Morgan Stanley raised its price target for the stock to $64 per share on Jan. 17. This implies upside in the stock of 34%. Robinhood shares have gone on a tear as of late, up over 75% in the past three months. However, analysts believe that upside remains due to the freshly in-office Trump administration. Many believe the new administration will favor cryptocurrency more than Biden’s. About 48% of Trump’s corporate election contributions came from crypto firms. This shows strong support for his policies from the industry. Additionally, a Trump executive order titled “Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology” looks to forward many interests of the crypto community. Transaction fees from crypto trading make up a significant portion of Robinhood’s revenue. It generated $311 million from this stream over the past four quarters. A friendlier stance on crypto could boost prices and trading. This would raise Robinhood’s revenue. There is also significant room for the company to continue growing internationally and in products like retirement accounts. 3. Atlassian: Cloud Migration, Gen AI Tools, Low Market Penetration Last up is Atlassian (NASDAQ:). Morgan Stanley has an overweight rating on the tech stock and a price target of $315. This target implies just under 18% upside in the company’s shares. Atlassian makes workplace productivity software that helps businesses increase collaboration between employees. Bullishness stems from the company’s new product, Rovo, as well as its customer migration from its data center deployment to the cloud. Rovo is Atlassian’s new Gen AI tool, which the company hopes will be a significant growth driver. It lets users search for info in Atlassian and third-party apps. They can also chat with a bot that uses company-specific info. If the company can get more customers to access its software over the cloud rather than using on-premise hardware, there are several benefits. First off, implementing new features and products becomes easier. This can increase the company’s ability to cross-sell, leading to higher growth. It could also lead to higher margins, as it can increase the economies of scale in its cloud segment, leading to lower costs per customer. Data center deployment still makes up 67% of revenue, meaning there is still much room for migration to the cloud. Additionally, Atlassian is less than 7% penetrated in the $67 billion market it is targeting, suggesting significant room for growth. 16. ASML Stock: What’s Behind the 6% Spike Despite DeepSeek Concerns? ASML Stock: What’s Behind the 6% Spike Despite DeepSeek Concerns? ASML stock was up 6% after posting strong Q4 results. The performance quelled concerns about a potential disruption caused by DeepSeek. The firm’s net bookings blew away estimates. The Netherlands-based AI stock beat Q4 earnings and revenue estimates. ASML (NASDAQ:) stock was on the move Wednesday after the firm reported strong fourth quarter earnings and a robust outlook. The results quelled fears, at least for now, about the potential impact of ******** company DeepSeek and its recently released AI technology. The breakthrough DeepSeek open-source AI technology is said to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as it is a reasoning model that is trained to “think” more deeply about a prompt. It is also much cheaper to develop than other models and uses far less energy. It was released on January 10, but it exploded on the scene on Monday when it became the number one most downloaded free app in the Apple (NASDAQ:) app store. ASML, along with chipmakers like NVIDIA (NASDAQ:) tanked as a result. ASML stock was down about 8% on Monday to $675, while NVIDIA dropped about 17%. The concern among investors is that this breakthrough model requires less computing power, thus, perhaps, less need for AI chips. ASML is not a chipmaker, but it does produce the machines that allow for the creation of AI chips, so it is wholly connected to that universe. But ASML stock bounced back on Wednesday, opening roughly 6% higher as the price surged back to $723 per share. Here’s why. Record Revenue in Q4 and Fiscal 2024 ASML reported strong fourth quarter earnings on Wednesday and had a promising outlook that pleased investors. The Dutch company beat revenue and earnings estimates in the quarter. ASML reported net sales of €9.3 billion, or USD$9.7 billion, a record for the firm. Revenue was 24% higher than it was in the previous quarter. It also topped estimates of €9.07 billion. ASML President and CEO Christophe Fouquet said the sales gains were mostly fueled by revenue on two High NA EUV systems, along with additional upgrades. Net income was €2.7 billion in the quarter, or USD$2.8 billion, a 29% quarter-over-quarter increase. The outcome was better than the €2.64 billion that analysts had expected. Earnings were €6.85 per share, of USD$7.14 per share, up 30% from €5.28 per share. The company also improved its gross profit margin to 51.7%, up from 50.8% the previous quarter. The profit margin was above ASML’s previous guidance. Also, the firm more than doubled its cash to €12.8 billion, or USD$13.3 billion, from €5 billion the quarter before. ASML also had a record year with €28.3 billion in net sales (USD$29.5B) in fiscal 2024, up from €27.6 in 2023 – a 3% increase. Outlook Is Promising While the earnings were solid, the main catalyst for the spike in the stock price on Wednesday was the outlook. Net bookings, which include all authorized system sales orders, came in at €7.1 billion, or USD$7.4 billion, up 169% from the previous quarter. It blew away net bookings estimates of €3.3 billion. This metric is indicative of high demand for its machines and services. That was good news for investors. The company also offered guidance for fiscal 2025, which was consistent with previous guidance. Investors likely took it as a good sign that the firm did not lower its guidance on the DeepSeek threat. “We expect first-quarter total net sales between €7.5 billion and €8.0 billion, with a gross margin between 52% and 53%,” Fouquet said. “ASML expects R&D costs of around €1,140 million and SG&A costs of around €290 million. As we communicated last October, we expect total net sales for the year between €30 billion and €35 billion, with a gross margin between 51% and 53%.” The net sales range would represent an increase of between 6% and 24%. Fouquet said the wide range is consistent with management’s view that AI has created a shift in the market dynamics that is not benefiting all of its customers equally. That “creates both opportunities and risks as reflected in our 2025 revenue range,” the CEO said. Analysts Are Bullish Analysts that cover the stock are generally bullish on ASML. They have a median price target of $848 per share, which would be a 19% increase over the current price. ASML stock also received some upgrades, including one from Bernstein, which boosted the target to $885 per share. That is some 24% higher than the current price. “While overall a solid set of results, and that strong bookings number should give investors some reassurance on 2025, we believe there is still a lot to play out in AI demand as DeepSeek impact is better understood,” Bernstein analyst Sara Russo said in a research note, reported Investor’s Business Daily. “Longer term we remain bullish on the opportunity for ASML, but caution may prevail until we understand the more near-term implications.” The stock is also trading at a reasonable valuation, with a P/E that’s down to 37 and a forward P/E of 27. It remains to be seen how DeepSeek might disrupt the industry, but for now, the outlook for ASML looks good. However, the wide revenue range is worth monitoring. John Keeble | Getty Images News | Getty Images H&M on Thursday reported a slightly better-than-expected uptick in operating profit, although sales missed forecasts in the fourth quarter. The Swedish fashion giant posted operating profit of 17.3 billion Swedish krona ($1.57 billion) for 2024, versus the 17.2 billion Swedish krona forecast by analysts in an LSEG poll. Fourth-quarter operating profit came in at 4.6 billion Swedish krona versus the 4.2 billion Swedish krona analysts had predicted. Sales, meanwhile, were 62.19 billion Swedish krona in the fourth quarter, below the 63.48 billion forecast in a Reuters poll, but up 3% in local currencies. In 2024, sales rose 1% in local currencies to come in at 234.58 billion Swedish krona. “Sales and operating profit increased in the fourth quarter driven by strong online sales, well-received women’s fashion collections and effective cost control. By focusing on our core business and delivering on our plan, we are on track towards long-term, profitable growth.” CEO Daniel Ervér said in a statement. H&M has been struggling to compete against Inditex-owned rival Zara, as well as lower-cost retailers such as ********-founded fast fashion giant Shein. In September, the company scrapped its earnings margin target for 2024 as higher costs and increased competition hit third-quarter operating profit. 23. Second class post deliveries should be reduced, says regulator Second class post deliveries should be reduced, says regulator Royal Mail should only deliver second class letters every other weekday to “protect” the future of the ***’s postal industry, the industry regulator has proposed. Ofcom said the Universal Service Obligation (USO) must be reformed as people send fewer letters every year but stamp prices keep rising. The one-price-goes-anywhere USO means Royal Mail has to deliver post six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, and parcels on five from Monday to Friday. Ofcom said Royal Mail should continue to deliver first class letters six days a week but second class will be limited to alternate weekdays and not on Saturdays. “The world has changed, we’re sending a third of the letters we were 20 years ago,” said Natalie ******, Ofcom’s group director for networks and communications. “We need to reform the postal service to protect its future and ensure it delivers for the whole of the ***.” The number of letters Royal Mail delivers has fallen from a peak of 20 billion in 2004-05 to 6.6 billion last year. However, the price of stamps have continued to rise. Since 2022, Royal Mail has hiked the cost of a first class stamp five times from 85p to £1.65. It has also increased the cost of a second class stamp over the same ******* from 66p to 85p. Ofcom said making changes to second class deliveries could save the loss-making Royal Mail between £250m and £425m. “This could enable it to improve reliability and redeploy existing resources to growth areas such as parcels,” it said. Royal Mail’s parent company is being sold to a business controlled by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky in a deal worth £3.6bn, after the Labour government approved the deal last year. The government will maintain a “golden share” which means Mr Kretinsky’s business will have to get approval for any changes to Royal Mail’s ownership, the location of its headquarters and its tax residency. Royal Mail must also adhere to the USO, which Mr Kretinsky has pledged he will do for “as long as I am alive”. While this is only up by three per cent from the share held by ********-made vehicles last year, Cox’s forecast excludes cars built in the country by foreign-owned brands. That includes Tesla (which builds the Model Y and Model 3 there), BMW (iX3), Mini (Cooper E), Volvo (XC40 Recharge) and others which counted towards the total. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert With these vehicles excluded, Cox says approximately 142,000 cars were sold here by ******** auto brands in 2024, accounting for a 12 per cent market share. Based on the firm’s prediction of 1.18 million new vehicle sales this year, that means the ******** marques could combine for 236,000 deliveries in 2025. For context, that figure combined with sales of vehicles made in the nation by overseas brands could see China topple Thailand as the second biggest source of *********** vehicle imports (thanks largely to utes). Last year, 272,139 new vehicles came here from Thailand. Japan continued as Australia’s number one vehicle importer with 378,911 (thanks in large part to market leader Toyota). Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert According to Cox, this increase will not only be driven by the likes of MG, GWM, BYD, LDV and Chery, but also new-to-arrive or returning marques such as Geely, Foton, Xpeng, Leapmotor, Deepal and JAC, to name a few. “By the end of 2025, there will be around 15 ******** brand names in the market, covering all segments and fuel types, with price bands from $25,000 and into six-figures,” Cox said in a media release. Despite ******** brands often being thought of as some of the most affordable on the market, the title of Australia’s cheapest vehicle is currently held by the South Korean-made Kia Picanto, with the Suzuki Ignis, Hyundai Venue and Japanese-built Mazda 2 all also being cheaper than the outgoing-generation MG ZS. However, the GWM Ora remains Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle (EV), and it’s this technology that China has been so dominant in selling, both globally and locally. Last year, eight of the 10 best-selling EVs in Australia were made in China, with five coming from ********-owned brands (MG, BYD and Volvo).
