  1. Netflix accidentally made its content show up in the Apple TV app Netflix accidentally made its content show up in the Apple TV app Breaking: Netflix made an oopsie. On Thursday, word spread online that some of its content began appearing in the Apple TV app. The lack of an official announcement (and extremely buggy nature) of the integration was enough to cast doubt on the news. But that didn’t stop users from rejoicing and sharing “FINALLY!” GIFs on social media. Unfortunately, your triumphant festivities weren’t warranted, as the company has said it was unintentional. A Netflix spokesperson told The Verge on Friday that the Apple TV app integration was an error that has been rolled back. Indeed, Redditors who had been tracking the forbidden fruit with unbridled glee confirmed that all signs of Netflix content had since vanished from Apple’s streaming hub. Netflix giveth, and Netflix taketh away. While the boo-boo was still active, PC World reported it let you add Netflix originals like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai and The Crown but lacked licensed shows and movies. Even the available content was a buggy mess. For example, only season five of The Crown was available, leaving you to wonder what hijinks Liz and the gang had gotten into before or after the grunge era. The “Add to Watchlist” and “Continue Watching” features were also said to be spotty. It’s easy to speculate that such a glitch was tied to internal testing accidentally made public, but there’s no reason to assume that’s anything but wishful thinking. At least for now, you’ll have to watch Netflix content in the Netflix app, leaving Apple’s for a well-earned rewatch of The Sopranos (via Max), The Bear (via Hulu) and Apple’s own Silo. 2. Zelenskiy says he will meet with Putin on one condition Zelenskiy says he will meet with Putin on one condition Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says the only Russian official he is prepared to talk to is President Vladimir Putin, and he would only do so once Ukraine agreed on a common plan with the US and European leaders. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskiy said US President Donald Trump had given him his personal phone number and told him he could call any time he wanted. “I will meet with only one Russian guy, with Putin, only after we will have common plan with Trump, Europe. And we will sit with Putin and stop the war. Only in this case I am ready to meet,” Zelenskiy said in English. On the subject of his relationship with Trump, who had his first conversation with Zelenskiy since assuming office on Wednesday, Zelenskiy said the US president offered him his personal number. “It was funny … He said ‘you can call me anytime you want’, I said to him yes, thank you so much. But previous time you said me that you can call me directly anytime and did not give me your phone number. “He said – OK, right, you can call anytime.” Trump also spoke separately with Putin on Wednesday, and told US officials to begin talks on ending the nearly three-year-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump’s unilateral overture to Putin raised alarm for both Kyiv and the European allies in NATO who said they feared the White House might make a deal without them. 3. ‘Don’t give me this s‑‑‑ that work-from-home Friday works’ ‘Don’t give me this s‑‑‑ that work-from-home Friday works’ JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon scolded employees Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio, during a fiery internal town hall, after workers raised concerns with the bank’s five-day return-to-office policy, according to audio reviewed by The Hill. “It simply doesn’t work,” Dimon said, referring to policies that allow employees to work remotely. “And it doesn’t work for creativity. It slows down decisionmaking.” “And don’t give me the s‑‑‑ that ‘work from home Friday’ works. I call a lot of people on Friday. There’s not a ******** person to get a hold of,” he added during the meeting. Some staffers at the nation’s largest bank joined forces to sign a petition urging the CEO not to remove hybrid workdays. However, Dimon condemned the effort while claiming that work-from-home opportunities are harming the next generation of workers. “The young generation is being damaged by this. That may or may not be in your particular staff, but they are being left behind,” he said during the event. “They’re being left behind socially, ideas, meeting people — In fact, my guess is most of you live in communities a hell of a lot less diverse than this room,” the CEO added. Dimon’s comments drew issues with worker efficiency. His move to require full in-person attendance follow President Trump’s executive order directing federal employees to physically return to offices for work immediately. He has also defended Trump’s tariff threats. “You don’t have to work at JP Morgan. So, the people of you who don’t want to work at the company, that’s fine with me,” Dimon told the crowd. “I’m not mad at you. Don’t be mad at me.” “It’s a free country. You can walk on your feet. But this company is going to set our own standards and do it our own way. And I’ve had it with this kind of stuff,” he added. JPMorgan Chase did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment. The company, which employs more than 300,000 workers, plans to lay off fewer than 1,000 people in February and plans to announce additional cuts in mid-March, May, June, August, and September, according to reports from Barrons. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway adds Constellation Brands shares, sells more Bank of America Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway adds Constellation Brands shares, sells more Bank of America Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway continued selling its big Bank of America stake in the fourth quarter, while the conglomerate added a new holding in Constellation Brands . Berkshire offloaded more than 117,000 of Bank of America shares last quarter, owning a 8.9% stake worth just below $30 billion at the end of 2024, according to a new regulatory filing. Buffett started a selling spree in July after his view on the industry turned pessimistic following 2023’s banking crisis. Some analysts have speculated that he is selling down shares of the bank after the lender’s stellar fourth-quarter earnings report did little to boost the stock. Also during the fourth quarter, Berkshire built a relatively small stake in booze stock Constellation Brands. The filing showed the conglomerate owned 5.6 million shares at the end of 2024, worth $1.2 billion. Shares of Constellation Brands jumped more than 6% after the disclosure of Berkshire’s new bet. The alcohol name came under pressure lately as President Donald Trump’s steep tariffs on ******** imports could hurt the brewer significantly. Constellation imports all of its beer from Mexico, including Modelo and Corona. Beer accounted for 86% of Constellation’s sales in the first half of its fiscal year. The stock is down 26% this year. 6. JD Vance meets leader of ******* far-right AfD party JD Vance meets leader of ******* far-right AfD party US Vice President JD Vance has met with Alice Weidel, the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, while on a visit to Germany, an official in Vance’s office says. A spokesperson for Weidel confirmed the meeting, saying the pair discussed the Ukraine war, ******* domestic policy and freedom of speech. Earlier Vance backed the AfD as an eligible political partner in remarks rebuffed by Berlin as unwelcome interference in an upcoming election. The anti-immigration AfD, currently polling at around 20 per cent ahead of Germany’s February 23 general election, has pariah status among other major political parties in a country with a taboo about far-right politics because of its Nazi past. In a policy dubbed the “firewall”, parties have formed a consensus not to work with the AfD, which is under surveillance by the ******* domestic intelligence service. In an apparent reference to the catchword, Vance said: “Democracy rests on the sacred principle that the voice of the people matters. There’s no room for firewalls.” “No voter on this continent went to the ballot box to open the floodgates to millions of unvetted immigrants,” Vance also said, speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Friday. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio due to be broadcast on Sunday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticised Vance’s remarks as highly unusual, adding that Germany had a firewall against extreme right-wing parties for a good reason, citing Germany’s past under National Socialism. Germany’s defence minister on Friday rebuffed Vance’s criticism of ******* and European political powers as unacceptable. “This democracy was just called into question by the US vice president, not just the ******* democracy but that of Europe as a whole,” Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said at the security conference. “If I understand him correctly he compares the condition of Europe with what prevails in some authoritarian regimes … this is not acceptable,” he added. Conservative leader Friedrich Merz, who polls show is likely to be Germany’s next chancellor, was accused by rivals last month of breaking the firewall by initiating parliamentary motions that relied on AfD support. But he, too, has ruled out forming a government with the far-right party. Earlier on Friday, a ******* government spokesperson said Vance should not interfere in Germany’s election, when asked about a Wall Street Journal report in which Vance was quoted as saying he would urge ******* politicians to work with all parties including the AfD. “I don’t think it is right for foreigners, including those from friendly foreign countries, to interfere so intensively in an election campaign in the middle of an election *******,” the ******* government spokesperson said at a press conference. Billionaire US businessman Elon Musk, the biggest donor to President Donald Trump’s election effort and now head of Trump’s task force to cut US government spending, has publicly backed the AfD. 7. Bakery owner in New England says he was offended over town’s decision against pastry painting Bakery owner in New England says he was offended over town’s decision against pastry painting CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire bakery owner testified Friday that his excitement about displaying a painting by high school students of giant pastries quickly turned to annoyance after a zoning code officer told him it was a sign and had to be changed or removed. Sean Young said the the work atop his bakery is art, and was never intended to be a sign. “I was artistically offended for the students,” said Young, who’s suing the town of Conway because he says it violated the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. “It’s offensive to move it,” he said in court Friday. “I just didn’t want to do it.” The bright painting atop Leavitt’s Country Bakery shows sunbeams shining down on a mountain range made of sprinkle-covered chocolate and strawberry doughnuts, a blueberry muffin, a cinnamon roll and other pastries. A federal judge is considering whether the town is infringing on Young’s rights. For now, the painting has been allowed to remain since it was first displayed in June 2022. The zoning board determined the painting is not so much art as advertising. If it didn’t show what’s sold inside — baked goods — it wouldn’t be considered a sign and could stay, board members said. But because of its size, they say it can’t remain as-is. At about 90 square feet (8.6 square meters), it’s four times ******* than the local sign code allows. Jeremy Gibbs, the zoning officer who issued the citation, testified that he was following the town’s definition of a sign, which some lawyers and even the judge remarked seemed to cover “everything.” A sign in Conway is “any device, fixture, placard, structure or attachment thereto that uses color, form, graphic, illumination, symbol, or writing to advertise, announce the purpose of, or identify the purpose of any person or entity, or to communicate information of any kind to the public, whether commercial or noncommercial,” according to the sign code. Gibbs testified that if there were no regulation, then signs could be placed anywhere and there could be safety concerns about lighting or distracted drivers. He also noted that Conway, near the White Mountains, draws tourists to its natural resources. If signage was unregulated, he said, “we could lose a lot of that beauty.” U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante couldn’t resist adding a bit of levity to the proceeding. “It’s shocking that no one brought doughnuts to this trial,” he said at one point. During another moment, he asked Young to describe each pastry in the painting, starting with a scone on the left. He quibbled over Young’s description that a raspberry cookie was actually the top of a cupcake. 10. What we’ve learned about her expenses and Labour response What we’ve learned about her expenses and Labour response Billy Kenber Politics investigations correspondent Reuters Since BBC News reported on Thursday that Rachel Reeves had exaggerated her online CV and had been investigated over her use of expenses while working at Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), Labour colleagues have mounted a robust defence of the chancellor. Sir Keir Starmer said she had “dealt with any issues that arise” from the questions about her CV, and Health Secretary Wes Streeting told BBC Newsnight that she was doing a “brilliant and difficult job”. But Labour figures have questioned our reporting on the expenses investigation, with one cabinet minister calling it totally inaccurate. Here we examine the key Labour responses and look at the evidence that supports our journalism. What did we reveal about Reeves’s expenses? The BBC News investigation revealed that concerns were raised about Reeves’s expenses while working at HBOS between 2006 and 2009. A detailed six-page whistleblowing complaint was submitted, with dozens of pages of supporting documents including emails, receipts and memos. It accused Reeves and two other managers, one of whom was her boss, of using the bank’s money to “fund a lifestyle”, with spending on events, taxis and gifts, including for each other. We have seen these documents and spoken to more than 20 people, many of whom were former colleagues. What happened to the whistleblower’s complaint? The complaint led to an internal investigation by the bank’s risk department. This was passed to internal audit, which reviewed the allegations and concluded that they were substantiated and there appeared to be evidence of wrongdoing by Reeves and her two colleagues, according to a senior source with direct knowledge of the investigation. What we have not been able to establish is what happened next and whether the bank ever reached a formal conclusion. How are Labour defending Reeves? Reeves has said she was not aware of an investigation or issue with her expenses and said she left the bank on good terms. She said her expenses had always been signed off in the proper way. The person who signed off her expenses, her boss, was also subject to the internal investigation. Other Labour figures have criticised BBC News’s reporting on the story, with two MPs repeating similar attacks. On Friday, Science Secretary Peter Kyle told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the reporting was “inaccurate”. Both he and Siobhain McDonagh, a Labour MP who appeared on BBC’s Politics Live on Thursday, raised comments by a former HR manager, Jane Wayper – which, they said, disproved the BBC News’s story. EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock Science Secretary Peter Kyle has criticised the BBC’s reporting on Rachel Reeves What did the HR manager say? Wayper spoke to the BBC after being given permission to do so by Reeves’s team. She provided an on-the-record statement which said she “would have been made aware of any investigation which concluded there was a case to answer” on the basis that she “would have been required to organise and oversee a disciplinary process”. However, the BBC has not reported that the case reached a formal conclusion, or that there was disciplinary action. Kyle incorrectly claimed that the quote had not been included in our report – but it had been in the article since it was first published on Thursday morning. He also incorrectly referred to Wayper as the head of HR at the bank. In reality she was an HR business partner working in the department where Reeves worked. What has Reeves said? On Friday, Reeves was asked about the expenses claims directly. She said: “No-one ever raised any concerns about my expenses when I worked for Halifax Bank of Scotland.” She said her expenses had been “signed off in the proper way” and “no issues were ever raised” during her time at the bank. Her expenses were signed off by her manager, who was also one of the three employees who were the subject of the expenses probe. Reeves left the bank in May 2009, as did her boss. The other senior manager was on sick leave in May and never returned to work at the bank. There is no suggestion any of the departures were linked to the investigation or spending issues and a spokesman for Reeves said the chancellor left the bank on good terms. What has BBC News established about her LinkedIn CV? Reeves has accepted the findings of another part of our investigation, this time over her CV. We established that the chancellor had exaggerated the length of time she worked at the Bank of England. Reeves has often said she spent the “best part of a decade” working at the bank when setting out her credentials to run the economy to voters. However, her LinkedIn profile said she only worked there for six years – from September 2000 to December 2006. A year of that time was spent studying at the London School of Economics (LSE). The BBC has now established that Reeves left the Bank of England in March 2006, meaning the time she spent working there amounts to five and a half years. A spokesman for Reeves confirmed that dates on her LinkedIn were inaccurate and said it was due to an administrative error by the team. Her profile on the social media site has since been updated. What’s fuelling the surge of violence in Democratic Republic of Congo? – National What’s fuelling the surge of violence in Democratic Republic of Congo? – National Rwandan-backed M23 rebels who in late January captured Goma, the biggest city in eastern Congo, have since been advancing towards the second-biggest city in the area, Bukavu. The latest fighting is part of a major escalation of a conflict over power, identity and resources dating back to the 1990s Rwandan genocide and the fall of dictator Mobutu Sese Seko in the country then known as Zaire. In its latest conflagration, hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed since 2012 and more than a million are now displaced. What is happening on the ground? After taking Goma, the rebels pressed south towards Bukavu, capital of South Kivu province. On Friday they were in control of the strategic Kavumu airport that serves Bukavu. Story continues below advertisement The insurgents have been intent on showing they can restore order and govern in Goma. There have been more chaotic scenes and reports of looting and ***** near the front line as M23 confronts the Congolese army and its allies including Burundian troops. The U.N. refugee agency voiced concern on Friday at the “rapidly deteriorating” situation, saying the war had left around 350,000 displaced people with no roof over their heads. The involvement of Burundian and Rwandan troops on the ground has added to fears the fighting could spiral into a regional conflict akin to two devastating wars in the region between 1996 and 2003 that cost millions of lives. Reuters reported this week that South Africa has sent additional troops and military equipment to Congo in recent days after 14 of its soldiers were killed in fighting with M23 last month. M23, which refers to a March 23, 2009, accord that ended a previous Tutsi-led revolt in eastern Congo, is the latest group of ethnic Tutsi-led insurgents to take up arms against Congolese forces. Story continues below advertisement It launched the current rebellion in 2022. The group has accused the government of Congo of not living up to the peace deal and fully integrating Congolese Tutsis into the army and administration. It also vows to defend Tutsi interests, particularly against ethnic Hutu militias such as the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). 5:26 Congo families wary to return home as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels take Goma, assure safety The FDLR was founded by Hutus who fled Rwanda after participating in the 1994 genocide that killed close to one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus. For more than a year, M23 has controlled Congo’s coltan-mining region of Rubaya, generating an estimated $800,000 per month through a production tax, according to the United Nations. Coltan is used in the production of smartphones and other equipment. Story continues below advertisement The group’s spread into new territories in recent weeks gives it scope to acquire more mining revenue, analysts say. Congo’s vast mineral reserves, which are concentrated in the east, also play into conflict. Congo is the world’s top producer of tantalum and cobalt, a key component in batteries for electric vehicles and mobile phones. It is also the third global copper producer and home to significant coltan, lithium, tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold deposits. Despite this, Congo is the world’s most aid-dependent country. Humanitarian operations last year were 70 per cent funded by Washington, has taken a big hit since U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a pause on foreign aid last month. The government of Congo, U.N. officials and Western powers including the U.S. have accused Congo’s neighbor Rwanda of fueling the conflict by deploying thousands of its own troops and heavy weapons on Congolese soil in support of M23. Story continues below advertisement The accusations are based on a 2022 report by a U.N. African leaders have tried to push for negotiations to defuse the crisis but so far have not made much progress. Tshisekedi had planned to attend but a presidential spokesperson told Reuters on Friday that he would fly from Germany to Kinshasa and that Congo’s prime minister would represent Congo at the summit instead. What are peacekeepers doing? U.N. peacekeepers have been supporting the Congolese army’s efforts to curb the M23 as part of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (MONUSCO) years-old mandate to counter the many rebel groups active in eastern Congo. Story continues below advertisement An agreed withdrawal of the mission from Congo was paused last year because of the deteriorating security situation. As of December, there were nearly 11,000 peacekeepers on the ground, mostly in the east. Since the fall of Goma, the mission has evacuated some of its staff and families. Its base has received a large number of people seeking refuge, including government and army officials and various elements including the pro-government Wazalendo militia fighters who have surrendered their arms. The 16-member Southern African Development Community (SADC), which extended its military mission in Congo late last year to help the Congolese army fight the rebels, remains in place, but has suffered losses since the start of 2025. Private military contractors who were hired by the Congolese government to help in the fight against M23 and to train troops have also surrendered. Burundian troops have been helping Congo fight the M23. Burundi’s government has sent thousands of soldiers, who are now concentrated in South Kivu. 13. Co-Founder of Wikipedia Reveals His Journey from ‘Skeptical Philosopher’ to Christian Co-Founder of Wikipedia Reveals His Journey from ‘Skeptical Philosopher’ to Christian Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has announced that after years of being an “agnostic” and a “skeptical philosopher,” he has now converted to Christianity. “It is finally time for me to confess and explain, fully and publicly, that I am a Christian,” the 56-year-old wrote on his blog. “Followers of this blog have probably guessed this, but it is past time to share my testimony properly. I am called to ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.’ One of the most effective ways to do so is to tell your conversion story. So, here is mine,” he began. In the detailed account, Sanger takes readers through his decades-long conversion process. The online encyclopedia co-founder recalled early memories of going to the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, with his parents. “My father was an elder in our church when I was a small child. I remember a few ****** commentaries on the bookshelves, which I found forbiddingly difficult,” he wrote. Sanger said that he asked many questions about God and faith as a young child, but by his teen years he resolved that God did not exist and belief in Him seemed “irrational.” “Without realizing it, I probably stopped believing in God when I was 14 or 15: even today, I do seem to remember the belief slipping away, as I occasionally mused that I no longer prayed or went to church,” he shared. A few years later he settled in, becoming a “philosopher and a so-called methodological skeptic,” which he describes as “someone who withholds beliefs” that cannot be known “with certainty.” Sanger shared, “When I got serious about matters, I would say, ‘I do not even know what ‘God’ means.’ But generally, I called myself an agnostic.” By the time he arrived at college, Sanger knew he wanted to study philosophy and aimed to become a college professor. However, he quickly became disillusioned with academia because of a lack of “any sincere concern for truth” among fellow philosophers. Sanger said he took the most issue with modern atheists who claimed that “they simply lacked a belief that God exists, but their mocking attitude screamed that God did not exist.” “I was always willing to consider seriously the possibility that God exists. They were not. Nor was I very hostile to religion,” he explained. By 2001, Sanger had started Wikipedia and also began to more seriously search out whether God existed. “After enough years of dealing with these ‘adepts,’ the thought slowly dawned on me: maybe, just maybe, I too had been indoctrinated, in a way. Perhaps I had misunderstood things I only thought I had understood,” he wrote. “Perhaps I had not been exposed to the best representatives of the faith. In short, perhaps, I had not given Christianity a fair shake. And yes, I couched this in terms of ‘Christianity’ to myself: I never found any interest in other religions. This thought sat uncomfortably in the back of my mind for many years.” In 2010, he decided to crack open the ****** – not for him, but for his sons – because it is “the most influential book in the history of the world, bar none.” “One cannot call oneself well educated in the West if one has not read it,” he expressed while admitting that reading parts of it did not “make much of an impression.” “It was interesting literature, to be sure. I know now that I simply did not understand what I was reading very well. I merely assumed there wasn’t anything terribly deep to understand,” Sanger explained. Sanger would not revisit the ****** until years later. After completing a 7,000-word essay titled “Why Be Moral,” and a companion piece, “A Theory of Evil,” he began to think more about the root of good and evil. I concluded the latter essay this way: What makes humanity loveable, and what inspires the most devotion toward heroes and leaders, is the capacity for creation, the ability to invent, build, preserve, and restore whatever is good, i.e., that which supports and delights flourishing, well-ordered life. What makes evil individuals worthy of our righteous anger is their capacity for destruction of the good, due to their contempt for human life as such. If so, then the love for God may be understood as a perfectly natural love of the supremely creative force in the universe. For what could be greater than the creator of the universe, and what could be more loveable? And then it certainly makes sense that they would regard Satan as a force most worthy of our hatred and condemnation, since Satan is held to be an essentially destructive entity, the one most contemptuous of human life as such. He concluded that in both essays, he was beginning to show a change in his attitude toward Christianity. “Whereas before I had been merely skeptical and cool toward Christianity, I now felt warm toward it. I had come to morally approve of it – it was not just tolerable, but positively likable,” he said. Sanger decided, this time, to read the ****** for himself. “I am not sure why I began to read the ****** so obsessively and carefully, as I did,” he described. “When I really sought to understand it, I found the ****** far more interesting and – to my shock and consternation – coherent than I was expecting.” Sanger downloaded the YouVersion ****** app and used a 90-day reading plan to make “****** study a serious hobby.” He began a deeper dive into theology to only realize that “despite having a Ph.D. in philosophy, I had never really understood what theology even is.” “Theology is, I found, an attempt to systematize, harmonize, explicate, and to a certain extent justify the many, many ideas contained in the ******. It is what rational people do when they try to come to grips with the ****** in all its richness,” Sanger explained. The former philosopher said at this point, he also began to “talk to God.” By 2020, Sanger began reading the four Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and told himself, “I should admit to myself that I now believe in God, and pray to God properly.” Sanger admits his conversion is “anti-climatic,” but true and sincere. “I never had a mind-blowing conversion experience. I approached faith in God slowly and reluctantly—with great interest, yes, but filled with confusion and consternation,” he shared. Sanger added that while his conversion has been “uncomfortable” at times, he is a part of “something like an orthodox Christian faith.” Although he has not found a church home, he encourages everyone to read the ****** daily. 18. Trump calls for withholding federal money from schools and colleges that require COVID vaccines Trump calls for withholding federal money from schools and colleges that require COVID vaccines WASHINGTON (AP) — Schools, colleges and states that require students to be immunized against COVID-19 may be at risk of losing federal money under a White House order signed Friday by President Donald Trump. The order is expected to have little national impact because COVID-19 vaccine mandates have mostly been dropped at schools and colleges across the United States, and many states have passed legislation forbidding such mandates. The order directs the Education Department and Health and Human Services to create a plan to end vaccine mandates for COVID-19. It isn’t clear what money the plan would use as leverage. Most federal education money is ordered by Congress. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. It aims to fulfill a campaign promise from Trump, who often said he would “not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate.” The order applies only to COVID-19 vaccines. All states have laws requiring that children attending schools be vaccinated against certain diseases including measles, mumps, polio, tetanus, whooping cough and chickenpox. All U.S. states allow exemptions for children with medical conditions that prevent them from getting certain vaccines. Most also allow exemptions for religious or other nonmedical reasons. Some colleges started requiring students to be immunized against COVID-19 during the pandemic, but most have dropped the requirements. A few continue to require vaccines at least for students living on campus, including Swarthmore and Oberlin colleges. Most of those colleges allow medical or religious exemptions. Statewide student vaccine mandates were rare. California planned to add COVID-19 to the list of required vaccines for K-12 students, but it wasn’t enacted and was later dropped. Illinois had a requirement for college students but lifted it after about a year. ___ The Associated Press’ education coverage receives financial support from multiple private foundations. 19. Reddit CEO says paid subreddits are coming this year Reddit CEO says paid subreddits are coming this year You could soon pay to access certain subreddits, according to comments shared by Reddit CEO Steve Huffman during a taped video AMA (Ask Me Anything). Huffman has suggested the company might experiment with some kind of Reddit paywall before, and now its apparently happening. When asked if he could share information about the development of paid subreddits, Huffman said that “It’s a work in progress right now, so that one’s coming.” To a follow up question about new features coming to Reddit in 2025, Huffman said “Paid subreddits? Yes,” confirming they’re on the list. Unfortunately there’s little detail as to how paid subreddits will actually work when they do launch. It might make sense for only Reddit Premium subscribers to be able to access paid subreddits, for example. As Ars Technica notes, Reddit does offer an exclusive subreddit for subscribers called r/lounge. The company also currently pays some users for posting via the Reddit Contributor Program. The pieces for a paywall are there, but you have to fill in more than a few blanks to get them to fit together. However they happen, paid subreddits continue Reddit’s goal of monetizing as much of its user-generated content as possible after going public in 2024. The company has signed licensing deals with both OpenAI and Google, and is currently pulling on users’ posts to answer questions with its Reddit Answers chatbot, all in an attempt to squeeze as much value out of the content it already has. A paywall is maybe a blunter way to make that happen, but it’s not surprising. The sense of pride comes after Trump has repeatedly said Canada should become the 51st American state. Feb. 15 marks the 60th anniversary of the ********* flag after it was first raised in 1965. “This year, more than ever, not only do we have to celebrate our flag but also remind ourselves what it represents: our values, our resilience and our sovereignty,” minister Pascale St-Onge said. “This national emblem represents the values we all cherish — generosity, openness, respect and equality. A flag that could not be mistaken for any other, it connects us to our national identity, to our ********* pride and to each other. Seeing our bright red and white flag with its maple leaf flying reminds us of the home we all share. Story continues below advertisement A Leger poll published this week found Trump’s threats are driving a swell of national pride, with 85 per cent of Canadians saying they feel proud to be *********. Stewart Prest, a political science lecturer at the University of British Columbia, said people are again seeing the flag as a symbol of tolerance and inclusion, and of ********* distinctiveness from the United States. During the “Freedom Convoy” protests, it “came to symbolize a new form of identity,” he said, but now Canadians of all political stripes are being urged to wave it proudly. More on Canada More videos In a joint statement this week, former prime ministers Joe Clark, Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin and Stephen Harper urged Canadians to fly the flag with pride as “never before” this Saturday on Flag Day. “Let’s show the world that we are proud of our history and proud of our country,” the statement said. The Maple Leaf was first designed by George F. G. Stanley, and that red and white flag has been flying off store shelves in the last few weeks. Judy Denham, the owner of the Saskatoon Flag Shop said ever since Trump suggested becoming a state, sales have gone up. “There definitely is an influx of people buying ********* flags right now,” she said. “With the former prime ministers making the call to Canadians to fly a Canada flag, we’ve found that the Canadians are responding.” Story continues below advertisement On Wednesday, Denham said they did more sales in one day than they do in a week. “I’ve had a couple customers comment that they’ve never owned a ********* flag before today,” she said. “I think a lot of people, even though they don’t want to necessarily take a hard political stance, are responding to what’s happening in North America,” Denham added. “They want to show that they are *********. They want them for their acreages or even just the pole they have in their backyard.” Flags Unlimited, another ********* company, said it’s seen sales of the national flag double from the same time one year ago.
