With Split Fiction, your Friend’s Pass goes cross-platform With Split Fiction, your Friend’s Pass goes cross-platform When It Takes Two was released, two friends could play with a single copy as long as they were on the same platform — but with Split Fiction, a single copy is all you need to play with a friend. *******. The Friend’s Pass function is going cross-platform, meaning you can play with friends on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC as long as one of you owns the game. The only requirement is that you both need an EA account linked to your platform account. You probably already have one if you’ve played Apex Legends, The Sims, or any recent Madden or FIFA title. The Friend’s Pass feature can be used with multiple friends, too (just not at the same time.) It’s not a one-time use code, and a different friend can even pick up where another left off. The demo of Split Fiction will be playable using Friend’s Pas, too, and it will also have couch co-op. Any progress you make in the demo will also carry over to the full game, too. Split Fiction | Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer There’s a caveat for any would-be Trophy or Achivement hunters out there. Only the player who owns the game — the host — can unlock achievements, so you’ll need to get your own copy if you want to unlock everything in it. Please enable Javascript to view this content The game is slated for release on March 6. You’ll need a friend, though; the game is co-op only, so any single players out there won’t be able to complete the game on their own. Hazelight even has a workaround for that, though; a Discord server where you can find other players online to journey through the sci-fi/fantasy world of Split Fiction together. Users will fact-check Instagram and Facebook. Let’s just hope it works Users will fact-check Instagram and Facebook. Let’s just hope it works Table of Contents Table of Contents How far can the damages go? This is not a fix for Meta’s problem A fundamentally problematic solution A month ago, Meta said it was ending its third-party fact-checking program, and said that it would rely on users to flag misinformation. Today, the company has announced Community Notes, which takes a similar approach as X, and will be implemented across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The requirements for being a community notes writer is that you must be a US citizen over 18 years of age, have a verified phone number, and an account that is older than 6 months. Not all community notes will be published though, as that would require a consensus of sorts among other contributors. “Enough contributors must agree that a community note is helpful before it can be published on a post,” says the company. Meta will soon begin onboarding eligible users (details of which are not available yet), and will start surfacing these publicly-sourced fact-checking notes in the next few months. Meta Community Notes can be up to 500 characters, must use a language that appears unbiased and easy to understand, and support the claims with a URL linking to a reliable source. Once it has been rated and deemed helpful, it can be publicly attached to the problematic social media post. How far can the damages go? Heading ahead in 2025, Meta has a ******* content moderation policy and a no-contacts situation with independent fact-checking organisations, starting with the US. The company is hoping that notes contributed by users will solve its problems. It’s a slippery slope. A misinformation expert, who works with a leading organisation that is a part of Meta’s fact-checking program, told Digital Trends that community notes are largely ineffective. Talking on conditions of anonymity, they said it has failed on X in some of its biggest markets, such as India. A member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) by Poynter, the expert also rejected Meta’s claims that fact-checkers were politically biased. IFCN agencies have argued how Meta made them adhere to strict non-partisan and transparency, which also meant saying no to advocacy and affiliations to political parties. Meta Here is the oxymoronic part of the debate. Professional fact-checkers are the top contributors to Community Notes on X, as per a study that analyzed over 1.2 million notes published in 2024. “Users frequently rely on fact-checking organizations when proposing Community Notes,” says the study. Ever since Meta announced an end to its fact-checking program, a debate about the intent behind it erupted. In January, Meta ended its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts (DEI) for hiring and training employees. Did Meta prioritize user interests, or simply made the decision based on the political climate? We might never get an official answer to that. But the damage such failures can do, are far-reaching. It can affect everyone hailing from a ********* group, be it religious, political, cultural, or social, just to name a few. “Recent content policy announcements by Meta pose a grave threat to vulnerable communities globally and drastically increase the risk that the company will yet again contribute to mass violence and gross human rights abuses,” said Amnesty International. Nadeem Sarwar / Digital Trends Jamie Krenn, an associate professor at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, tells Digital Trends that Meta’s platforms risk becoming a breeding ground for false narratives and leave users vulnerable to manipulation. “Expertise in fact-checking plays a crucial role in maintaining this balance, ensuring that free speech is supported by a foundation of truth. Without it, we risk confusing opinion with fact—a dangerous precedent for any society,” says Krenn, who holds a doctorate degree in cognitive studies. This is not a fix for Meta’s problem “The deployment of Community Notes to replace fact checking does little to fill the space but big tech has made the calculus that emphasizing free speech was a better move politically with lawmakers and regulators than other reforms,” Jeff Le, an expert on global affairs and public policy, and a former Deputy Cabinet Secretary for California state, tells Digital Trends. Fact-checking is a rigorous process, and without expert analysis, it can spiral into a massive problem. The United Nations (UN) warns that facts can often be misrepresented, especially in times of conflict, and can affect peace, security, and humanitarian efforts. Meta When social media panders to the sensitivities of a majority class, fact checking goes for a toss if the same user base is engaged in problematic online behaviour. According to Amnesty’s report on the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar, mass spread of hateful messages “substantially increased the risk of outbreak of mass violence.” Here is the more concerning part. Meta’s content moderation failures aside, even if a post gets a community note attached to it, that post might not be removed or have its visibility limited. It will continue to stay there, unless it is reported and Meta decides to take action. The latter seems unlikely to happen. In January this year, the company also loosened its content moderation efforts and diluted its Hateful Conduct policy. According to the Human Rights Campaign, due to these new policies, “LGBTQ+ people will disproportionately suffer harassment and abuse, without any access to recourse.” A crowd-sourced approach to fact-checking is bound to fail. Le, who has also successfully campaigned against anti-LGBTI and anti-inclusionary legislation in multiple states, also touched on the recent measures taken by social media companies, such as age restrictions and parental controls to protect vulnerable groups. “These are likely not the path to meaningful reform or expanded confidence in the platforms going forward,” he tells Digital Trends. Yaron Litwin, CMO at a company named Canopy that makes parental control software, says these changes can lead to “deterioration in online discourses.” Nadeem Sarwar / Digital Trends He adds that we should be looking for more ways to address the issues on social media, while also making a point about how AI-generated content is posing a new avenue of challenge, even for fact checkers. On a side note, earlier this year, Meta started pushing AI-generated characters and a new AI-driven video editing app is coming, as well. A fundamentally problematic solution The idea of Community Notes on social media is not bad, but it’s a monumental challenge for a lot of reasons. It might backfire for the very reason Meta ended its fact-checking program, which was otherwise handled by actual experts and certified agencies. “A program intended to inform too often became a tool to censor,” said Meta, when it announced plans of ending the initiative. The core reason was bias among the fact-checkers, as per the company. “Experts, like everyone else, have their own biases and perspectives. This showed up in the choices some made about what to fact check and how,” Meta reasoned. Here’s the missing part of the plot. Community Notes writers can be biased, too. Even more so than certified fact-checking agencies, which actually sign a pledge to remain transparent and go through annual checks. We just saw that happening over at X, the platform which inspired Meta in the first place X. “Unfortunately, @CommunityNotes is increasingly being gamed by governments & legacy media. Working to fix this,” X chief Elon Musk shared just a day ago. That goes against the whole ethos of having a pool of people across all backgrounds that adds factual information to challenge what is being claimed in a problematic social media post. Unfortunately, @CommunityNotes is increasingly being gamed by governments & legacy media. Working to fix this … It should be utterly obvious that a Zelensky-controlled poll about his OWN approval is not credible!! If Zelensky was actually loved by the people of Ukraine, he… — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 20, 2025 Essentially, a social media platform decides to arbitrarily and non-transparently fix a crowdsourced and entirely independent system, just because it was flagging content that doesn’t align with likes and dislikes of its owners. Also, if Musk’s reasoning of “increasingly being gamed” is taken seriously because it was targeting a certain viewpoint, then he clearly missed the train. And given Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg’s recent pivot to more free speech dialogue, the system might run into similar problems across Facebook and Instagram. Review bombing, the legitimate kind or malicious, has been a reality of the modern Internet for years, and it is not going to be any different with Community Notes. Epic Games had to create a whole new user rating system to handle review bombing. If a certain body, person, or event is deemed positive by one group, it may attract the ire of the other, armed with facts of their own. That is particularly true when geopolitics and culture enter into the picture. How will Meta decide which link is a reliable source shared in the community note? Will Meta’s community be unbiased and non-transparent at judging the reliability of news sources? Will the audience engagement figures play a role? If so, a certain biased news channel with an audience of millions can easily overtake a smaller but reliable source in another market. That’s a fundamental problem. Bryan M. Wolfe / Digital Trends India is the biggest market for Facebook, with over 300 million users, and so does Instagram. If contributors in India cite a local news source (with a much ******* audience than a local outlet the US) for a piece of information, will Meta give precedence to their community note even if it’s biased or incorrect? That becomes even more complex, when media bias itself is apparent across the world. Who is going to decide the trustworthiness of the “news sources” for community notes on Facebook and Instagram, remains a mystery. It would be interesting to see how Meta balances it all, and avoids another social media-driven ruckus that ensnares a few billion users. Acting head of ICE reassigned amid frustrations over deportation efforts Acting head of ICE reassigned amid frustrations over deportation efforts Washington — Caleb Vitello, the acting head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is being reassigned amid internal frustrations over the agency’s progress in carrying out President Trump’s mass deportation goals, administration officials told CBS News on Friday. In a statement, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed Vitello’s reassignment, saying he “is no longer in an Administrative role, but is instead overseeing all field and enforcement operations: finding, arresting, and deporting ******** aliens, which is a major priority of the President and Secretary Noem.” The leadership shakeup follows another move made by the Trump administration earlier this month to reassign two high-ranking officials at ICE’s deportation branch, known as Enforcement and Removal Operations. Vitello was installed by Mr. Trump to lead ICE in an acting capacity at the start of his second administration in January. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement via Getty Images The agency, which oversees immigration arrests and deportations in the interior of the country, is at the center of efforts to carry out what Mr. Trump has promised will be the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. Trump administration officials have moved to dramatically expand ICE’s mandate, aggressively publicizing immigration arrest operations and giving deportation agents broader powers to arrest migrants living in the U.S. illegally, including non-criminals who lack proper immigration documents. The Trump administration has also rescinded Biden-era limits on ICE arrests, including a policy that previously banned immigration arrests at so-called sensitive locations like churches, schools and hospitals. But despite the sweeping policy changes, top administration officials have expressed concerns, privately and publicly, about ICE arrests and deportations not being as high as they would like them to be. Tom Homan, a former top ICE official who is serving as the administration’s border czar, said earlier this month he was “not happy” with the current arrest levels. “The number is a lot higher than under the Biden administration but we’ve got to do more,” Homan said on CNN, calling it “hard work.” Camilo Montoya-Galvez Camilo Montoya-Galvez is the immigration reporter at CBS News. Musk calls former ISS commander ‘******’ in heated exchange over astronauts – National Musk calls former ISS commander ‘******’ in heated exchange over astronauts – National Elon Musk has been using his social media platform, X, to trade barbs with a European Space Agency astronaut and former commander of the International Space Station (ISS) after the astronaut took exception to Musk’s claims that former U.S. President Joe Biden left two Americans abandoned on the ISS on purpose. The spat started on X Thursday and continued into Friday, with several other astronauts joining the fray after Danish astronaut Andreas “Andy” Mogensen called out Musk for peddling an unsubstantiated claim in a Fox News television interview on Tuesday. When asked about astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, whose eight-day test flight on Boeing’s Starliner aircraft turned into an eight-month stay aboard the ISS after the Starliner ran into problems, Musk insinuated to Fox that the Biden administration left them in space longer than necessary. Molly Jong-Fast is thinking about challenging Jerry Nadler Molly Jong-Fast is thinking about challenging Jerry Nadler NEW YORK — Novelist turned political journalist Molly Jong-Fast wants somebody “serious” to run against Rep. Jerry Nadler in 2026 — so she doesn’t have to do it herself. The Vanity Fair correspondent and podcast host has been talking to political consultants about a run against the 77-year-old Manhattan Democrat. But Jong-Fast told POLITICO she’s “still really on the fence.” “If someone who is a good communicator and a serious Democrat will run for that seat,” Jong-Fast said in a phone call Friday, “then I absolutely will not. If there’s someone who’s an AOC or a Maxwell Frost — if there’s someone like that who will run — then I will just be delighted.” Nadler’s profile could hardly be more different than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Frost, the 28-year-old Florida Democrat. The dean of New York’s congressional delegation, Nadler has held the office for 32 years, since 1992. But in December he was pushed out of his role as the top Democrat on the powerful Judiciary Committee by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who another member told Punchbowl has “reenergized” the committee. “It’s not about their age, it’s about their ability,” Jong-Fast said. “And clearly the fact that Jerry has been removed from his committee means that leadership does not have faith in him. If leadership does not have faith in him, then the voters should not have faith in him.” Nadler has already filed to run for reelection. In fact, he told New York magazine last year he could run for another five terms. His chief of staff, Robert Gottheim, noted that Nadler easily beat veteran Rep. Carolyn Maloney in a competitive primary in 2022 and didn’t even face a primary in 2024 before getting reelected in November with 80 percent of the vote. “He’ll put his over 30-year record of accomplishments against anyone,” Gottheim said. “The district seems pretty happy with his representation and work in Congress. He takes every election at a time and he intends to run for reelection.” Time will tell if the first midterm election of President Donald Trump’s second term results in the same fed-up-with-the-old-guard energy that helped Ocasio-Cortez topple longtime Rep. Joe Crowley in 2018 — and if so, whether a 46-year-old Upper East Sider who’s about to release a book about being the daughter of feminist author Erica Jong, is the one to seize it. Jong-Fast understands that and put the odds of a campaign at 80 percent not running, 20 percent running — down from 50-50 at the start of the interview. Nadler may already have a well-known challenger in Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen, who has become an unlikely “resistance” hero for testifying against the president. Cohen decided against taking on Nadler last cycle, but then told New York mag he’d announce a 2026 run the day after Election Day. That day has come and gone with no announcement, but Cohen told POLITICO Friday he is still planning to run. There are also a handful of Manhattan elected officials who would be eager to jump in the minute Nadler gets out of the race. Among the names in the mix are Assemblymembers Micah Lasher, Alex Bores and Rebecca Seawright, City Council Members Erik Bottcher and Julie Menin and state Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal. “Jerry has godlike status in the district,” Lasher said. Source link #Molly #JongFast #thinking #challenging #Jerry #Nadler Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

The ‘GOAT’ Perry upstaged in India by 16-year-old The ‘GOAT’ Perry upstaged in India by 16-year-old Ellyse Perry may be seen by her adoring Royal Challengers Bengaluru fan club as the ‘GOAT,’ but even after the ***********’s latest tour de force they ended up recognising the day belonged to a teenager. For after the 34-year-old Perry crashed her highest ever WPL score at Bengaluru with a masterful knock of 81, she ended up getting upstaged by 16-year-old Indian Gunalan Kamalini, who cracked the winning boundary through the covers for the visiting Mumbai Indians off the penultimate ball. As the young left-hander danced down the pitch, having sealed a famous four-wicket win on Friday, Indian cricket was enraptured by the story of the “cheeky little thing” who’s the youngest ever player in the WPL, and only a few weeks ago starred in the national U19 team’s World Cup victory. On Tuesday, Kamalini had made history by starting for Mumbai against Gujarat at the age of 16 years 213 days, making her the league’s youngest debutant. And cheered on by her family in the stands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, she looked like a hardened veteran as she coolly steered away the winning runs off Ekta Bisht through the off-side ring. Finishing with 11 off eight ******, Kamalini’s 26-run seventh-wicket stand with Amanjot Kaur got Mumbai past their target on 6-170, leaving the three Australians who had done so much to win the game for RCB all a bit flat. Young Kamalini’s joy was infectious. “What a superstar she is going to be!” declared Mumbai Indians coach Charlotte Edwards. “She is a cheeky little thing but what a job she did tonight!” Perry, lauded by the home fans, had earlier again been RCB’s star turn as she did most to drag them out of a hole when they had slumped to 4-57 after being asked to bat. Smashing her second fifty of the tournament, she remained the rock as wickets tumbled around her and hit 11 fours and two sixes in her 43-ball innings before she departed off the penultimate ball, having set up RCB’s total of 7-167. Her 81 pushed her second on the all-time list of WPL run-scorers with a tally of 745, now just 32 shy of her long-time national captain Meg Lanning’s 777 for Delhi Capitals. Perry has still not yet recovered sufficiently from the hip problem that flared up during the Ashes Test to be able to bowl, and RCB certainly missed her in that department when it came to a close finish after Nat Sciver-Brunt (42 off 21) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (50 off 38) had put Mumbai in sight of victory. Perry’s two Aussie teammates, Georgia Wareham (3-21 off four) and Kim Garth (2-30 off four) looked as if they had won the day for RCB with key wickets, especially when Wareham’s excellent, wily spin in the 18th over accounted for Harmanpreet and Sajeevan Sajana in successive ******. But player-of-the-match Amanjot Kaur, who had earlier taken 3-22 off her four overs including the wicket of Perry, came up trumps with the bat too, thumping two sixes in her 27-ball 34no that sealed the deal, along with a little help from young sensation Kamalini. Nintendo Alarmo Now Available At Major Retailers – Mario Will Wake You Up For $100 Nintendo Alarmo Now Available At Major Retailers – Mario Will Wake You Up For $100 Nintendo Alarmo is now available to purchase for $100 at Best Buy. The Nintendo-themed interactive alarm clock first released in October at the Nintendo Store, but you needed a Switch Online membership to buy it. At that time, Nintendo said Alarmo would launch at major retailers in March 2025. The quirky accessory has arrived a bit earlier than expected. Alarmo is currently only available at Best Buy (and the Nintendo Store). That said, we’d expect the gamified alarm clock to pop up at other major retailers soon, including Walmart, Target, and GameStop. It’s possible Amazon will sell it, too. While the online retail giant doesn’t carry Nintendo Switch products at this time, it still stocks a wide variety of official Nintendo merch. $100 The Mario-red alarm clock has a dynamic front display and built-in speaker. Before you go to sleep, you can choose which Nintendo characters and games will wake you up the next morning. Alarmo launched with sights and sounds from five Nintendo Switch hits, including Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. So far, Nintendo has added two more games to the lineup via free post-launch updates: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In total, there are over 40 scenes that can be watched on the screen when the corresponding tracks from the game pull you out of your slumber. You can opt for the volume to increase over time. As a heavy sleeper, I use this setting. Nintendo Alarmo displays scenes from the following games: Super Mario Odyssey The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Animal Crossing: New Horizons Splatoon 3 Pikmin 4 Ring Fit Adventure Alarmo has several cool interactive features, too. The built-in motion sensor lets you snooze your alarm with a gesture or a button press (it’s your choice). Nintendo characters from the games above can also respond to motion-detected gestures. Throughout the day, Alarmo can be used to remind you what time it is by setting it to play music at specific intervals. It can also track your sleep and let you know how often you’re tossing and turning, which provides a general idea of the quality of your sleep. Alarmo is powered with the included USB-C cable. While it doesn’t work wirelessly, the included coin battery saves your settings, so if you need to move the clock to another room or your power goes out, you can plug it back in without needing to set it up again. Nintendo plans to release more updates, including new scenes, for Alarmo in the future. Updates are free, but you need to connect the device to Wi-Fi to download them. In the world of very unofficial updates, it’s technically possible to play Doom on Nintendo Alarmo. A South Carolina man is sentenced to life after confession on stand also led to his friend’s arrest A South Carolina man is sentenced to life after confession on stand also led to his friend’s arrest A South Carolina man who provided detailed testimony of how he brutally stabbed his friend’s ex-wife 35 times was found guilty of ******* and sentenced to life in prison despite his claims the killing was justified because a child was in danger. Zachary Hughes’ testimony this week not only led to his conviction but gave authorities enough evidence to arrest and charge his friend before Hughes even left the witness stand Wednesday. His friend, John Mello, could also face life imprisonment. “I’ve never had a defendant get on the stand with the kind of attitude, ego, cold-faced sternness and explain a brutal ******* in the way he did. It shook me a little bit,” prosecutor Walt Wilkins said after the trial. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. The body of 41-year-old Christina Parcell was found in a Greenville County home in 2021. Her jugular vein and carotid artery had been slashed. The rose petals strewn on the floor where Parcell’s body was found play an integral role in Hughes’ ******* ploy. He held the flowers as a ruse to get Parcell to answer her door. The case also involved revenge porn against Parcell and allegations that she and her new fiancé ********* abused the child she had with her ex-husband. Those allegations are why Hughes said he killed Parcell, but Circuit Court Judge Patrick Fant III ruled the defense could not bring them up because they were irrelevant to the killing. Hughes, 32, repeatedly defied Fant’s ruling including telling jurors of the relief he felt after killing Parcell. “I knew from that moment on (the girl) would be safe. (The girl) would be safe from the ******* abuse that her mother was perpetrating on her. And there is proof to that that the state is hiding from you,” Hughes said turning toward the jury. Fant immediately halted testimony and sentenced Hughes to six months in jail for contempt of court. Parcell’s fiancé, Bradley Post, 68, is awaiting trial on child ******* abuse charges. Investigators have not given details about the victims in those cases, but civil lawsuits against Parcell’s estate say her daughter was a victim. As Hughes testified, police arrested Mello — Parcell’s ex-husband and father of the child Hughes said he was protecting — and charged him as an accessory before the fact of ******* and for solicitation of a felony. Mello has been jailed without bond. Hughes told jurors that Mello offered him $5,000 and then increased it to $10,000 to kill his ex-wife, but Hughes refused the money only deciding to kill Parcell after he was convinced the child was in danger. Mello also let him know where his ex-wife would be and when she would be alone, Hughes testified. Mello, 64, said nothing about the case at a bond hearing Wednesday and did not have a lawyer. Hughes was a classical pianist who trained at The Juilliard School. He met Mello in 2020 and they became friends as Hughes played music in public during the COVID-19 pandemic, about a year before the killing. Mello was determined to get full custody of his daughter and the two started harassing Parcell, sending her nude photos to her neighbors and job, authorities said. On the stand, Hughes detailed his ploy to ******* Parcell, which included riding a bicycle to her home on a route he mapped to avoid traffic cameras and posing as a delivery florist with roses when he rang the doorbell. Hughes also described how he stabbed and slashed Parcell after he was scared shooting her would make too much noise. “You rarely have a defendant get on the stand and detail such a heinous crime and a justification that makes no sense,” prosecutor Wilkins said. Lawyers for Hughes said they will appeal the verdict and the judge’s decision not to allow them to present evidence of the alleged ******* abuse. Tina Parcell asked the judge for a life sentence, saying Hughes was offered her sister as “a target on a silver platter” and that her sister was terrorized by everyone involved in the case. “All these men did nothing but use my sister,” she said. “All of them used her for their own twisted personal gratification.” Source link #South #Carolina #man #sentenced #life #confession #stand #led #friends #arrest Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Egg smuggling rises at U.S.-Mexico border as bird flu drives up prices – National Egg smuggling rises at U.S.-Mexico border as bird flu drives up prices – National As egg prices surge amid the ongoing bird flu outbreak affecting poultry farms, U.S. authorities are reporting a rising trend of smuggling attempts between the American and ******** border. The spike follows an avian flu outbreak that resulted in the culling of millions of chickens across the U.S., driving egg prices to new highs. From October 2024 to February, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBSA) reported a 29-per cent increase in egg seizures at the U.S. and Mexico border compared to the same ******* last year, a spokesperson told Global News. “Importation of raw/fresh eggs from Mexico into United States is generally prohibited due to concerns about diseases such as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and Virulent Newcastle disease,” the CBSA spokesperson said in an email. “Travelers are prohibited from bringing fresh eggs, raw chicken, or live birds into the United States from Mexico. Travelers are encouraged to declare all agricultural products to CBP officers and agriculture specialists; failure to declare may lead to potential fines.” Story continues below advertisement As of February 2025, the average price for a dozen eggs in the U.S. has reached an all-time high of USD$4.95, surpassing the previous record of $4.82 in 2023, according to the USDA. Some retailers are charging as much as $10 per dozen. According to the USDA’s report, the average price per dozen stood at $7.34 as of Feb. 7. 2:04 Why are egg prices in the U.S. soaring instead of coming down after Trump inaguration? The crisis has led to unexpected consequences, including a rise in egg smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border. With eggs reportedly much cheaper in Mexico, some consumers have attempted to bring them into the U.S, and theft has also become a growing concern. Story continues below advertisement On Feb. 1, thieves stole over 100,000 organic eggs, valued at $40,000, from a farm in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, popular restaurant chain Waffle House has introduced a $0.50 surcharge on egg orders to offset rising costs. What about the Canada-U.S. border? Due to the avian flu outbreak, both Canada and the U.S. have implemented restrictions on the movement of poultry and related products. Trending Now ‘Can’t take our country’: Trudeau says after Canada’s hockey win over the U.S. Legault calls Tkachuk brothers ‘shameful’ as hockey, politics clash for 4 Nations final Between the Canada and U.S. border, the USDA states you cannot bring live poultry (chickens, ducks, etc.) or raw eggs from certain parts of Canada into the U.S. due to bird flu restrictions. Fresh eggs or raw egg products from these restricted areas are also prohibited unless they have been specially processed, such as being pasteurized or cooked. Processed egg products (like cooked or packaged eggs) are allowed if they meet proper packaging and safety standards, the USDA said. For personal use, eggs or bird products must either be fully cooked or sealed in a way that keeps them safe without refrigeration. Story continues below advertisement 1:37 Drop in bird flu cases has B.C. poultry farmers cautiously optimistic In Canada, the ********* Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has put in place measures that affect the import of live birds, poultry, hatching eggs, unprocessed bird products and certain fresh poultry items from areas in the U.S. that are dealing with avian flu. Canada also applies border restrictions based on the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the United States. When outbreaks occur in the U.S., CFIA temporarily prohibits the import of certain poultry products, including hatching eggs, from affected U.S. states, a CFIA spokesperson told Global News. During outbreaks of avian diseases like HPAI, the CFIA said eggs being brought into Canada must meet certain requirements. The eggs must be retail packaged for human consumption and clearly labeled as a “Product of the USA.” Story continues below advertisement Eggs from private farms or backyard flocks are not allowed under any circumstances. — With files from Reuters More on World More videos © 2025 Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc. PS5 Pro debuts in new Astro’s Playroom update PS5 Pro debuts in new Astro’s Playroom update It’s a fine addition(s) to the PlayStation Secret Labo collection, showing that the nearly 5-year-old PS5 tech demo still hasn’t been left behind by Team Asobi. Just yesterday, Team Asobi dropped a surprise update to Astro’s Playroom, as reported by Push Square. The PS5 Pro (and a couple other gatcha artifacts) have finally made its debut. The previous update for Astro’s Playroom was last September leading up to the launch of Astro Bot (via PSLF), with that update bringing the unlockable Special Bot based on Ape Escape. While the PS5 Pro, released late last year, is positioned next to the PS5 Slim in the PlayStation Labo’s Secret Labo room, it’s joined by a couple new PlayStation artifacts. They are the PULSE Explore Wireless Earbuds and the PULSE Elite Wireless Headset. Oddly enough with the PS5 Pro, it is displayed without a disc drive in contrast to the PS5 Slim. Though after all, the Pro is advertised without the detachable disc drive. These three additions are not the only surprises to Astro’s Playroom. Team Asobi and Sony also updated the menu icons for the pre-installed tech demo, both the icon in the PS5 menu and when players launch the game. One thing that remains the same is the menu music when highlighting the game in the PS5 menu. Astro’s Playroom was released alongside the PlayStation 5 back on November 12, 2020. Francis Parco Contributor Francis has been gaming since he was little, with PlayStation as his most preferred platform growing up. He also games on PC, though. Other interests include Star Wars (a whole lot of it), Lego Bionicle, Marvel, and especially other Disney properties. The mid-sized electric SUVs with the longest range in Australia The mid-sized electric SUVs with the longest range in Australia The mid-sized SUV segment is one of the most saturated in Australia, and there are more options entering the market seemingly every month. Most are still petrol- or hybrid-powered, the latter of which are dominating the sales charts thanks to SUVs like the Toyota RAV4, or the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with its petrol-only options also available. Even so, loads of competitors continue to arrive from Australia, and most are targeting the electric vehicle (EV) space to tackle the likes of the Tesla Model Y. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of every mid-sized electric SUV currently available to order in Australia and ranked them based on their longest claimed EV driving range. Hunrdeds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera IconPorsche Macan Electric Credit: CarExpertCamera IconBYD Sealion 7 Credit: CarExpertCamera IconTesla Model Y Credit: CarExpertCamera IconBMW iX3 Credit: CarExpert Our range measurements are all based on the WLTP testing cycle, which is the most current standard for electric vehicle range and provides reliable consistency between each of the 17 cars listed below. We’ve omitted claimed energy consumption, as specifications published by each brand varies in its level of detail and is often presented based on varying test cycles like the less-accurate NEDC system. Most of these vehicles have been compiled based on the medium SUV category on the VFACTS sales charts. Because because some brands don’t report their sales to VFACTS or haven’t been on ***** long enough to record representative figures, we’ve also filled in some gaps with the likes of Tesla, Polestar and Deepal. Click on a model in the table below to jump directly to its information on the page, or continue scrolling for the full article Audi Q6 e-tron Audi’s Q6 e-tron leads the way with a maximum claimed range of 641km. Camera IconQ6 e-tron Sportback Credit: CarExpert That’s the claim for the Q6 e-tron performance, while range decreases to 625km in the e-tron quattro as the next model in the range. You’ll notice power and torque outputs increase as range decreases, which is to be expected given all three models are powered by the same 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Only the base is rear-wheel drive, while the rest are all-wheel drive. The Q6 e-tron range starts at $115,500 before on-roads and reaches to $151,400 before on-roads for the the top-spec SQ6. ‘What the F*** Is Wrong With Him?’ ‘What the F*** Is Wrong With Him?’ Donald Trump’s scathing put-downs aren’t reserved for his enemies–he also picked on supporters like Elon Musk during the 2024 election campaign, according to an upcoming book. Musk famously bounced around the stage in a ****** MAGA hat with his t-shirt untucked and baring his stomach during a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the scene of the failed assassination attack. According to author Michael Wolff, a “bewildered” Trump said afterward: “What the f*** is wrong with this guy? And why doesn’t his shirt fit?” In his new book, All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America, Wolff writes that before his exuberant performance, Musk had dissed Trump’s running mate JD Vance. Musk was “wandering about by himself, with only a thin layer of assistants or security” and was hungry so “someone produces a bag of pretzel sticks,” reports Wolff. Then, he says, Musk is asked if he’d like to meet Vance. “I’ve really no interest in speaking to a vice president,” replied Musk, according to the book. Trump also mocked Rupert Murdoch’s age, writes Wolff, at a time towards the end of the campaign when he was “bragging” that the media mogul was calling him every day. “Trump added to friends that the ninety-three-year-old Murdoch could not remember that he had called him the day before,” adds the best-selling author of the number one best-seller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Donald Trump mocked Rupert Murdoch. / Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images On the campaign trail, Trump wasn’t above repeating unsubstantiated “QAnon-type chatter” about people he perceived as his opposition. In his book, Wolff doesn’t name Michelle Obama, but he writes that Trump thought the Democratic Party would replace Joe Biden with “Mike” Obama when the president decided to pull out of the White House race. “People call her ‘Mike’ you know. You know that don’t you?” Wolff quotes Trump as saying. “They think she looks pretty manly. Those very big shoulders. What’s that about? That’s what people will call her if she runs, ‘Mike.’ That’s the name she’ll have: ‘Mike.’” Donald Trump repeated unsubstantiated speculation about Michelle Obama. / Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images Wolff writes that Trump had been mesmerized by the OJ Simpson trial in the 1990s and he writes that the former reality TV star considered Simpson a “hero” and was impressed by his “Dream Team” of lawyers. But Trump wasn’t always so happy about his own lawyers during his various legal battles and made some of his most withering attacks on attorneys he felt had badly represented him in court. After he was indicted in the criminal case which resulted in him being convicted of 34 felonies for hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, Trump erupted, writes Wolff, saying: “Why do I have such shitty lawyers? How did the lawyers get this so wrong?” Wolff claims that he also unleashed on Todd Blanche, one of his attorneys in the case, now nominated as deputy attorney general, saying: “I don’t even know what you’re doing here? I told you to stop this…I paid you to handle this. But you’re blowing it…Why are you so weak? I don’t know why I’m paying you.” Wolff recounts Trump also chewing out his second-chair team, Gedalia Stern, Susan Necheles, and Emil Bove, who is now his acting deputy general, saying: “How could you lose that? You were terrible. Now I get stuck with you.” Responding to a request from the Daily Beast for comment, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, said: “Michael Wolff is a lying sack of s**** and has been proven to be a fraud. He routinely fabricates stories originating from his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain.” Source link #Wrong Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Fortnite’s new season leans heavily on heist mechanics Fortnite’s new season leans heavily on heist mechanics Fortnite just announced the availability of Chapter 6: Season 2, which has been dubbed Lawless. As the name suggests, this update is all about being a criminal and performing robberies. Fortnite hasn’t dabbled in this kind of GTA-esque tomfoolery since Chapter 4: Season 4, which also included heists. Starting today, players will be able to perform all kinds of nefarious activities, like robbing banks, stealing armored cars and breaking into luxury locations. The popular battle royale will even let players rob the train that services the island. Oh yeah. There’s also a giant pickle that raps named Big Dill. It has a song on Soundcloud. To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so. There are a handful of new locations to accompany this update, including an urban area called Crime City. Other updated game mechanics include gold water that provides stat boosts, ****** markets for high-end weapons, and a scanner that detects where enemies are. There’s also a new in-game “crypto currency” called Dill Bits coins, which can be used to buy gear. This automatically makes it more useful than the vast majority of actual crypto coins out there. Players that pick up this season’s battle pass will have access to several new playable characters, including the aforementioned vinegar-soaked rapper Big Dill. Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat is also included in this roster for some reason. Epic Games A series of Cowboy Bebop quests will also appear in the game beginning on March 1. To accompany these quests, players will be able to dress like the characters Spike Spiegel and Faye Valentine. Lawless runs from today until May 2. This is just the latest wild and wacky Fortnite update. The game has dabbled with post-apocalyptic locales in the past, in addition to Greek gods, vampires and just about everything else. Most recently, Epic introduced Godzilla as a playable character. If you buy something through a link in this article, we may earn commission. Musician seeks help to recover ancient violin stolen in pub Musician seeks help to recover ancient violin stolen in pub A distraught classical musician has appealed for help to find his 284-year old violin stolen from a pub in north London while he was having dinner. David Lopez Ibanez plays the Lorenzo Cacassi violin, worth a six-figure sum, in orchestras including the London’s Philharmonia Orchestra. The instrument had been given to him on a long-term loan. Describing the realisation it had gone, the Spanish violinist said: “My life was torn apart. Your heart feels like it’s going to explode.” He had settled down to a pub dinner with a friend in Canonbury, north London, following a rehearsal with the orchestra. “I put it right next to me,” he said, on the bench on which he was sitting. “You get taught from a very early age to take such good care of it. Nothing prepares you for having it snatched away.” Mr Ibanez’s hat was on top of the violin case, and fell on the floor. Someone in the pub picked up the hat thinking it belonged to the suspected thief, and went after him. Only afterwards did they realise the violin must have been stuffed under a coat the man was wearing. The instrument was produced by renowned instrument maker Lorenzo Carcassi in 1740 in Florence. It had been passed down to musicians over two centuries before it was purchased by a businessman in Germany. Eight years ago, the businessman saw Mr Ibanez playing online and decided to loan him the violin to help his career. Mr Ibanez said: “It’s lived 300 years prior to my hands touching it. It’s got its own history.” Losing it was like a bereavement of an old friend. “Each hour, each performance, each challenge you get to know each other more and you express yourself through it.” It is insured, but for the musician the violin is “priceless”. The Metropolitan Police has been informed and is likely to examine the pub’s CCTV footage. But violins like this are also very easy to identify, making them hard for criminals to sell. This one will be even more difficult to offload. It has a unique feature – a tiny heart-shaped cut-out on the back of the ‘scroll’ at the top end of the instrument. Richard White, from JP Guivier, one of London’s few professional violin dealers, has already been warned about the theft. How much could a thief get for it? “Nothing,” he said. “As long as we know about the instrument, which we do. If that violin comes into us for *****, it will not leave the shop.” The violin is insured, but his greatest fear is that it will simply be thrown away, by someone not realising its value – financial or emotional. Often media attention can be vital to recovering an instrument. In 2019, musician Stephen Morris was reunited with his 310-year old violin which he had left on a train, after secret negotiations. British Transport Police released a CCTV image of a man believed to have taken the violin and asked him to get in touch, prompting media appeals, including on BBC Breakfast. This prompted a message on Twitter, now X, sent to Mr Morris from someone claiming to know the man. Over the next 24 hours, further contact was made with the message sender, who by now was suspected of having taken the violin. Calling himself “Gene”, which was not his real name, the man agreed to meet Mr Morris at a Waitrose car park near Beckenham railway station. The musician’s friend and former police officer, Mike Pannett, gathered a team of plainclothes officers who were placed on stand-by. But the full weight of the law was not needed as what was described as a “gentlemanly exchange” took place. The Verdansk Map Call of Duty Is Bringing Back Reportedly Not the One From ****** Ops Cold War The Verdansk Map Call of Duty Is Bringing Back Reportedly Not the One From ****** Ops Cold War Activision has confirmed in the past that one of the best Call of Duty: Warzone maps, Verdansk, will return to the game this year. The map will be added to the game in Spring 2025, and as we approach its release window, a popular leaker has released some interesting information about the map. Activision confirmed last year that Verdansk is coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone (Image via Activision) It seems like it won’t be the standard battle royale mode as the in-game files suggest that Verdansk will return with one of the most popular playlists. On top of this, the leak also revealed that the Verdansk that is making a return is the original one and not the one players saw in Call of Duty: ****** Ops Cold War. Leaker revealed some interesting information about Verdansk’s return to Call of Duty: Warzone It has been claimed that the original version of Verdansk will be added to Call of Duty: Warzone (Image via Activision) A data miner who goes by the name Reality on X has revealed in a post that there will be a Resurgence mode for Verdansk, which is different from regular Battle Royale mode as players can respawn after dying if a teammate is still alive. There will be RESURGENCE on Verdansk — Reality (@realityuk_) February 20, 2025 The leaker also revealed that the codename for Verdansk is OG_VERDANSK, which might imply that the original version of Verdansk will be added to the game, instead of the one players saw in Call of Duty: ****** Ops Cold War. If this turns out to be true, this map won’t have an underground train system and players will not be able to access the stadium. During the Call of Duty NEXT event last year, Activision confirmed that Verdansk is coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone in Spring 2025, so it is expected that the map will be added to the game as a part of the Season 3 update. Activision has been accused of not paying a Call of Duty WSoW winner Many professional players have criticized Warzone as it is filled with hackers (Image via Activision) Amidst all the hype for Verdansk, the winner of the 2024 Call of Duty WSoW winner came forward to expose Activision. In a recent tweet, professional Call of Duty player Biffle claimed that Activision didn’t pay him his prize money, which was $100K. On top of this, Biffle claimed that there are 20 more people who are yet to receive their payments. The player posted this on X in January, roughly 4 months after the championship ended. Verdansk making a comeback will surely convince many veterans to return to the game, however, they will quickly realize that Warzone isn’t the same game as when it was initially released. The game has become much more competitive and toxic, to the point where one of the most popular Warzone pro players, Aydan, announced that he’s stepping away from the game because of Warzone‘s current state. Acting U.S. attorney in Florida moves to dismiss unrelated felony charge against Jan. 6 defendant Daniel Ball Acting U.S. attorney in Florida moves to dismiss unrelated felony charge against Jan. 6 defendant Daniel Ball The Justice Department is expanding the historic clemency that was extended to U.S. Capitol insurrectionists and defendants by moving to dismiss charges unrelated to the assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, if the separate indictments stemmed from Jan. 6-related investigations. In a court filing in Ocala, Florida, a newly appointed top federal prosecutor has recommended a judge dismiss the remaining federal criminal count against Daniel Ball, who was pardoned last month for his role in the Capitol attack. Ball was still facing a weapons charge for ******** possession of a gun and ammunition seized from his home in 2023. Though President Trump’s pardon cleared Ball of federal charges he faced for his role in the riot, Ball was re-arrested days after the pardon because he still faced the felony firearm charge. Prosecutors had previously argued that Ball was unlawfully in possession of the gun because he had a felony history of domestic violence and strangulation. His supporters argued the gun case should be dropped because the firearm was only discovered as part of the FBI’s probe into Ball’s Jan. 6 case. Sara Sweeney, who was sworn in Tuesday as the new acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, has asked a judge to dismiss Ball’s gun case. In her filing, Sweeney said, “[T]he United States hereby moves to dismiss the indictment pending against the defendant, Daniel Charles Ball, with prejudice. The United States cites to the Executive Order dated January 20, 2025 , Granting Pardons and Commutation of Sentences for Certain Offenses Relating to the Events at or Near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, as the reason for this dismissal.” Sweeney’s office filed the motion under 48 hours after she took over as the lead federal prosecutor in Central Florida. Ball had pleaded not guilty to federal charges involving the gun and his role in the Capitol siege. Federal prosecutors accused Ball of throwing an explosive device in the direction of police during the Jan. 6 attack. The Justice Department alleged, “Ball worked with other rioters to violently push against fully uniformed police officers attempting to keep individuals out of the Capitol Building. When that attempt was unsuccessful, Ball moved back into the crowd and threw an explosive device into the entranceway.” In court filings, prosecutors also made allegations of a separate gun possession crime, writing, “During a search of Ball’s home, agents discovered ammunition for a .223 rifle and ammunition for a .762 rifle as well as a loaded—though unchambered—.22 rifle. During the same search, agents found multiple commercially produced “m-style” explosive devices, the same style of device Ball would later tell agents he threw at officers on January 6.” On Feb. 7, Ball’s defense attorney argued for the dismissal of the gun case, arguing, “President Trump issued a flurry of first day executive actions including a pardon to all January 6th defendants who had been convicted and ordering their immediate release. In addition, the executive order directed the Department of Justice to dismiss with prejudice all related cases pending January 6th.” Ball’s lawyer italicized and used a bold font to emphasize the phrase “all related cases.” Trump’s pardon of the more than 1,500 defendants of the U.S. Capitol siege triggered the release of hundreds of rioters from prison, including dozens accused of assaulting police.
