Mercedes-Benz adding electric version of one of its best-known models
Mercedes-Benz adding electric version of one of its best-known models
Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed it’s working on electric C-Class, GLC and S-Class models. Now we can add the E-Class to the list.
“By launching all-new electric GLC and C-Class models, Mercedes-Benz will close a gap in its electric core segment. An all-new fully electric E-Class will round out the picture,” the company said in a press release detailing its strategy.
This follows a mention of Mercedes-Benz planning launches for “dozens of new or refreshed models” between now and 2027, suggesting the E-Class with EQ Technology isn’t far off.
Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.

About that suffix: Mercedes-Benz is phasing out the EQ- prefix from its EVs, with electric vehicles (EVs) to instead adopt the ‘with EQ Technology’ suffix – as seen on the new electric G-Class – and plug-in hybrids gaining the “with EQ Hybrid technology” tag.
“We are strengthening our traditional class logic and will no longer use ‘EQ’ in model nomenclature for new vehicles,” a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson told Automotive News.
Mercedes-Benz will continue to use dedicated EV platforms for some of its EVs, however it has confirmed that “going forward a coherent design language will be used across the entire platform”.
It’s unclear what this means for the current EQE, which entered production in 2022 as an electric alternative to the E-Class.
Camera IconEQE Credit: CarExpert
A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson told Automotive News it was “too early to share more information about our future model lineup, for strategic reasons”.
In stark contrast to the BMW 5 Series and i5, the E-Class and EQE couldn’t look any more different. In addition to riding different platforms, they feature completely different exterior styling with the EQE characterised by a much more rounded body.
Mercedes-Benz sold 11,660 EQEs in the US last year, 12,391 in Europe, and 162 in Australia, declines of 39 per cent, 21 per cent and 62.3 per cent, respectively.
However, it still managed to outsell the BMW i5 in both the US and Australia.

Mercedes-Benz isn’t the only European luxury brand rejigging its naming strategy.
Audi’s upcoming combustion-powered A6 replacement will still be called A6, instead of being renamed to A7 as had previously been planned.
It’ll be sold alongside the new electric A6 e-tron, which is underpinned by a different platform and features different styling.
This means the new E-Class with EQ Technology will battle the A6 e-tron and i5, leaving the E-Class to take on the 5 Series and A6.
The current E-Class entered production in 2023, and depending on the market is offered with petrol, diesel and plug-n hybrid powertrains.

Ever Legion welcomes Undine to the RPG in new Elemental Summoning event
Ever Legion welcomes Undine to the RPG in new Elemental Summoning event
Undine starts off with a damage reduction aura
Grab the hero from the Elemental Summoning event
More events underway
In case you missed it, Undine has splashed into Ever Legion this month, offering a powerful Elemental you can add to your roster within the idle RPG. Apart from her handy area burst, she also kicks off each battle with a damage reduction aura – a handy trick to have up your sleeve, I would imagine, especially when you want to get a leg up on the competition right from the get-go.
With Undine in your roster, you can also expect to unleash sustained output and counterattacks as you go further into battle. Now, with that kind of kit, you’ll no doubt want to add her to your hero collection. Thankfully, the new Elemental Summoning event will put her up for grabs – if you can manage to please the RNG gods, that is.
I have to admit I haven’t heard of this fantasy adventure before, but simply based on the eye candy alone, it looks to be an appealing character-collection RPG. There are plenty of race and faith combinations to tinker around with, it seems, along with really cool larger-than-life bosses and “Deathless” armies to take on throughout Nevria.
In any case, if you’re curious to see how the heroes stack up against each other, why not take a look at our Ever Legion tier list to get an idea?
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by checking it out on the App Store and on Google Play. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchases.
You can also join the community of followers on the official Facebook page to stay updated on all the latest developments, visit the official website for more info, or take a little peek at the embedded clip above to get a feel of the vibes and visuals.

Former Denver developer shot dead at luxury Belize home in likely ‘hit’: police
Former Denver developer shot dead at luxury Belize home in likely ‘hit’: police
DENVER (KDVR) — A former Denver-based real estate developer was found dead in his yard at a luxury Belize community over the weekend in a shooting that police say could have been a hit job related to other homicides and a fraud investigation.
Boris Mannsfeld was found shot to death Friday night at The Villas at Cocoplum, a luxury residential community on the Caribbean country’s southeastern coast, Belizean media outlet Breaking Belize News first reported Saturday morning. Mannsfeld spent 10 years as a developer in Denver before moving to Belize and starting Boris Mannsfeld and Associates in 2010, according to his profile on the company website.
The Villas at Cocoplum was Mannsfeld’s own development project, according to his profile.
Breaking Belize News shared video with FOX31 of the country’s Commissioner of Police in a press briefing Monday detailing where they’re at in the investigation, including a person of interest in custody that may link Mannsfeld’s death to another ********* and a multi-million-dollar fraud investigation.
Denver temperatures land in the 60s, but the warm weather isn’t here to stay
“The shooting of Boris Mannsfeld has all indications of a hit.”
Belize Commissioner of Police Chester Williams on Monday told local journalists that investigators do think Mannsfeld’s death may have been planned.
“The shooting of Boris Mannsfeld has all indications of a hit,” Williams said in the briefing. “He was in his yard when, seemingly, he was approached by whoever the gunman or gunmen are, and he was shot once in the head behind the neck.”
Williams said they do not know much more, but several leads in the investigation have potentially connected Mannsfeld’s death to more deaths.
For one, a man who Williams said was an associate of Mannsfeld, Frik de Meyere, is in custody. According to his LinkedIn profile, de Meyere was Mannsfeld and Associate’s general manager for 12 years until last year.
Previous homicides, fraud investigation
Breaking Belize News previously reported that Mannsfeld’s death raised questions about two of his former associates, Ricardo Borja and Darren Taylor, killed in 2023 and 2024. Williams in the press briefing responded to journalists’ questions about any connections to their deaths.
Mannsfeld a month before his death had sent an email about a “massive fraud case,” according to BBN, that involved millions in stolen assets and a $3.9 million lawsuit against a former associate. Borja before his 2023 death claimed de Meyere was the mastermind of a land fraud scheme; Borja was reportedly killed just before he was supposed to meet Belizean authorities to divulge evidence of de Meyere’s involvement, according to Belizean newspaper Amandala.
Watch: Bulldog puppies stolen from Centennial **** shop
Now, at the Monday press briefing, Williams said they are not ruling out a potential connection between Mannsfeld and Borja’s death. they are reviewing Mannsfeld’s business dealings and the contents of that January email.
When asked if they have a connection, Williams said, “At this time we cannot say that, but we are not ruling it out.
“We have to first establish a motive in order for us to make a definitive connection,” he said. “But, it would not be wrong for one to assume there may be some connection there, and we’re looking at that possibility.”
BBN also reported Mannsfeld was involved in civil legal disputes and business malpractice allegations, but Williams declined to comment on those since they are civil and not criminal matters.
Williams stressed de Meyere is just a person of interest so far, and they are only interviewing him. He has not been charged with any crimes.
FOX31 has reached out to the Belize Police Department about a police report or any other information about Mannsfeld’s death but has not heard back yet.

Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 India Launch Teased; May Offer 6 Years of OS Updates
Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 India Launch Teased; May Offer 6 Years of OS Updates
Earlier this week, Samsung announced that the Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy M06 5G will be unveiled in India soon. While an exact launch date has yet to be confirmed, the company has now dropped a new teaser suggesting the imminent launch of the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 handsets. Although the official teaser does not confirm the monikers, it hints at the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 successors. Some design elements and expected OS details of the purported handsets were also teased.
Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 India Launch
Samsung has hinted at the launch of the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 in a video teaser on X. The monikers of the purported handsets were not confirmed but the repetitive “Awesome” tagline suggests that the expected phones are the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 successors.
The teaser claims that the upcoming Samsung smartphones will come with support for six years of OS updates. The Samsung Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 are expected to ship with Android 15-based One UI 7. The video further teases the middle frame of the upcoming handsets where we see the edge of the Key Island that holds the power button and the volume rocker. We can expect to learn more about the handsets soon.
Previous leaks suggested that the Samsung Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 may arrive in India in March. The phones’ support pages were also spotted earlier. The Samsung Galaxy A56 is expected to get an Exynos 1580 SoC, while the Galaxy A36 may carry a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC or a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. They are expected to support 45W wired fast charging.
For optics, the Samsung Galaxy A56 may get a triple rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel sensor, and a 5-megapixel sensor. The phone will likely also have a 12-megapixel selfie shooter. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A36 is tipped to have the same front and main camera alongside a 5-megapixel macro sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter.

Abandoned girl’s progress ‘astonishing’, court hears
Abandoned girl’s progress ‘astonishing’, court hears

Baby Elsa was found in a shopping bag near the Greenway footpath in east London in January 2024
A baby girl who was abandoned more than a year ago in east London is thriving, a Family Court has heard.
Judge Carol Atkinson said it was “astonishing” that Baby Elsa was doing so well.
The baby was found on the coldest night of the year in 2024, and hospital staff named her after the character in the film Frozen.
Last June, the BBC revealed that Baby Elsa is the third child of the same parents to be abandoned within seven years in the same area of London.
Baby Elsa was left inside a Boots carrier bag near the Greenway footpath in east London, on 18 January 2024. She was discovered by a dog walker.
Doctors could not take her temperature for three hours because she was so cold, although she was crying and responsive.
They estimated she had been abandoned at about an hour old.
Despite this very difficult start, Elsa is doing well and is currently in foster care. Her name has since been changed.
East London Family Court heard earlier this month that she is “meeting all her developmental milestones” and taking her first steps.
The court also heard that Elsa’s social worker, from the London Borough of Newham, described her checks on the baby as “the best visits ever”.
Metropolitan Police
Harry was found wrapped in a white blanket in Balaam Street, Plaistow, in September 2017
One of her siblings, Roman, was found in similar circumstances in a play area off Roman Road, Newham, in late January 2019.
The other sibling, Harry, was found wrapped in a white blanket in Balaam Street, Plaistow, in September 2017.
Like Elsa, both were abandoned very shortly after birth. They have both been adopted and their names changed.
The local authority cannot register Elsa’s birth while the police investigation is active. Without that, the local authority cannot complete its evidence before the family court and seek its approval for her adoption.
The court previously heard that officials were “very concerned” about the delay.
The police search for the babies’ birth mother and father continues.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have been working with subject matter experts at the National Crime Agency. Last month they made a new appeal for information.
Det Insp Jamie Humm said police “have serious concerns for the wellbeing of the parents, especially the mother”.
He urged people to contact the police if they had any information, however small.
A reward of £20,000 is being offered by Crimestoppers.

Firefly Aerospace is primed for a lunar landing attempt on Sunday (March 2) following a series of successful maneuvers in lunar orbit.
The company’s Blue Ghost lander entered lunar orbit on Feb. 13, after launching atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Jan. 15. It has since been lowering its orbit in preparation for a moon landing and is now all set for the upcoming attempt.
“Blue Ghost’s third and final lunar orbit maneuver is complete! Early this morning, our #GhostRiders performed a 16-second burn with our RCS thrusters to enter a near-circular low lunar orbit,” Texas-based Firefly stated in a post on the social media platform X today (Feb. 24).

A video embedded in the post shows footage of the heavily cratered lunar surface from the vantage point of the Blue Ghost spacecraft, also capturing the distant Earth and the dazzling sun, which causes lens flare. The footage was taken as Blue Ghost orbited the moon following an earlier lunar orbit maneuver. The engine burns have set up Blue Ghost for a moon landing attempt on Sunday.
“Up next, we’ll perform a 19-second Descent Orbit Insertion at our 100-km perilune to begin our descent to Blue Ghost’s final destination, Mare Crisium, on March 2,” the Firefly post read.

The mission, named “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” is one of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) missions. CLPS was established as part of the Artemis program to contract private companies to deliver the agency’s science payloads to the moon.
The lander is carrying 10 NASA payloads with science objectives including studying the lunar regolith, or the moon’s dusty surface, the lunar radiation environment and the solar wind.
Blue Ghost is aiming to become the second private lander to successfully soft-land on the moon, just over a year after Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus lander. If all goes well, the solar-powered spacecraft will operate on the surface of the moon for one lunar day, or about 14 Earth days, with lunar sunset expected to bring an end to the mission.

Google Pixel 9a Alleged Hands-on Video Offers Clear Look at Design Ahead of Launch
Google’s Pixel 9a is expected to go official next month. While the speculated launch date is still weeks away, an alleged hands-on video of the Pixel 8a successor has leaked online, giving us an early glimpse at what to expect from the affordable Pixel phone this time. The video showcases a plastic back panel for the Pixel 9a. The phone appears to have a flushed camera module.
User Shane Craig has posted an alleged hands-on video of the Pixel 9a on Threads giving us a detailed look at the design. The video suggests a plastic rear panel on the phone, and this could be Google’s way to cut costs on the new model. The flat frame seems to be made of aluminium and appears to have antenna lines.

Markets relieved by ******* election as key industries face uncertainty
Markets relieved by ******* election as key industries face uncertainty
Skyscrapers on the skyline in the financial district of Frankfurt, Germany, on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. Germany Finance Minister Christian Lindner, leader of the free market-leaning ****, issued a position paper on Friday calling for tax cuts and a slower approach to emissions reductions.
Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images
Germany’s election result delivered a jolt of optimism to lackluster markets at the start of the week, though the question of whether the new government can deliver promised higher public spending and reboot the economy continues to hang over the country’s beleaguered major industries.
Frankfurt’s DAX index gained 0.6% Monday, outpacing a flat U.K. FTSE 100 and 0.78% loss for France’s CAC 40, while the euro nudged higher against the U.S. dollar and British pound and ******* borrowing costs were little-changed.
Sunday’s vote delivered a victory for the conservative alliance of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU). That has set up CDU-CSU candidate Friedrich Merz — a center-right, pro-business politician who serves on the boards of EY Germany and the Deutsche Börse — as near-certain to take over as the next chancellor.
Some uncertainty remains however, with a ******* of coalition talks ahead and a future in which support of smaller parties will be needed to enact promised policies including reform of Germany’s contentious “debt brake” rule.
“I think what the market is seeing now is some stability, at least we know who won the election, we know who’s claiming it, and then we know who the coalition is going to be based around from here. So I think the market is taking that as a huge positive,” Michael Field, chief equity strategist at Morningstar, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe” on Monday.
A worse market outcome could have seen the CDU fall short of the level needed to start forming a coalition, triggering a “messy few months of parties scrambling around and no clarity for business,” Field said.
The result is positive for the ******* economy because a two-party “grand coalition” between the conservatives and the Social Democrats (SPD) now looks like a likely outcome, a situation that would expedite decision-making, analysts at Danske Bank said in a note.
Voters flock to political extremes in Germany as the centrist parties stumble
Whether it is a two- or three-party coalition that brings in a smaller player such as the Greens — with Merz having ruled out governing alongside the second-place far-right AfD party — the main parties are aligned on policies including bringing down energy prices and investing more in infrastructure, Morningstar’s Field told CNBC, which would see “positives coming through for businesses down the line.”
According to Field, that could deliver a boost to sectors including the ******* autos industry, the once-mighty sector which has been battered by electric vehicle competition from China, weak domestic demand, U.S. tariff threats and regulation.
“The sector is so badly beaten up… our stance is that it doesn’t take a lot to turn that momentum and shift that slightly in the positive direction, and a new government in place with a mandate to really take down energy prices, trying to improve competitiveness in the economy, any little bit of give there could really give that sector the booster it badly needs at this stage,” Field said.
The largely-overlooked utilities sector is another area that may benefit if the government removes policies such as energy price caps and consumer energy taxes which have limited market returns, Field continued.
Siemens Energy Chairman Joe Kaeser told CNBC on Monday that the government needed a long-term agenda to restructure Germany over the next five years. Such an agenda would need to focus on the economy, infrastructure, energy, education, innovation, restructuring the pension system and “regaining government control and government reforms.”
Arnd Franz, CEO of auto parts maker Mahle, meanwhile told CNBC the manufacturing sector needed urgent action on taxes, energy costs and flexibility of the labor market.
Citi analysts stressed in a Monday note that “the policy landscape post-election will depend on the shape of the coalition government yet to be formed.”
Highlighting the market impact that smaller parties could have, they said that the involvement of the Greens in a coalition would be a positive for building firms which make heating and cooling equipment, as this would reduce the likelihood of abolishing subsidies and mandates for heat pump retrofits.
Citi analysts also said they saw “limited [medium-term] risk to the ******* onshore wind auction regime,” citing the CDU platform that it is time to “develop grids, storage facilities and all renewables.”
“This would appear to imply no major steps aimed at hindering the development of wind power,” according to Citi, supporting stocks such as Nordex and Vestas, they wrote.
Wind energy just had a record year in Germany — but the federal election could shake things up
However, key questions remaining for markets include whether the government will be able to return the economy to growth, rebuild weak business and consumer sentiment, and increase fiscal spending through removing rules enshrined in the constitution limiting how much debt the government can take on. The latter point has moved into broader focus in recent weeks as European nations discuss upping their defense spending in response to the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions with the U.S.
“The key upshot from a market perspective… is the fact that the three establishment parties (CDU/CSU, SPD and the Greens) do not lay claim to the two-thirds of seats needed to change the constitution,” Rabobank’s economics research team said Monday.
Passing reform therefore has no clear pathway, with the AfD opposing debt brake removal, and the left-wing Die Linke being open to it but at odds with the SPD, and opposed to arming Ukraine.
“The bottom line, then, is that yesterday’s electoral result has not resulted in a clear path to the constitution being changed to allow for a step change in government spending,” Rabobank said.
They added that the ******* and regional growth outlook thus remains “decidedly gloomy in the absence of a dramatic fiscal shift.”

The disturbing rise of ketamine abuse among young people
The disturbing rise of ketamine abuse among young people

At the urology department of Burnley General Hospital, 26-year-old Ryan (not his real name) is having a drug solution inserted through a catheter – part of his treatment for a condition known as ketamine bladder. This procedure will not completely reverse the damage inflicted by Ryan’s previous addiction to the Class B drug, but it will help him manage the symptoms.
Ketamine, a powerful horse tranquiliser and anaesthetic, is a licensed drug and can be prescribed medically. However, when misused, it can cause serious and sometimes permanent damage to the bladder. The hospital is watching Ryan signs of kidney failure, too. He worries about finding a girlfriend and having children. But he is stoical when he talks about passing blood and having to ******** numerous times a day.
“You could not be a ketamine addict for 30 years, 20 years,” he says. “You’d die.”
He is under the care of consultant urologist Haytham Elsakka, who says he has witnessed a rise in young patients whose bladders have been damaged by ketamine use. “Some of them are in their 30s, but most of them are 16 to 24,” says Dr Elsakka. Around half of young patients end up needing surgery, he adds. Other risks from recreational use include liver failure, damage to the urethra, incontinence and impotence.
“We have seen young people under the age of 25 who’ve completely lost control of their bladders, who have had to have surgery, including bladder removal,” says Abigail Wilson, lead clinical pharmacist for national drug and alcohol charity WithYou.

Lancashire County Council says it is supporting a growing number of families affected by ketamine addiction in the Burnley area
In and around the town of Burnley, Ryan is far from alone. Lancashire County Council says it is helping a growing number of families affected by ketamine addiction in the Burnley area. According to WithYou, which runs a ketamine support service for young people aged 11 to 24, the number seeking help across Lancashire increased from 32 in 2018-19 to 123 by the end of 2024.
And the area is not unusual. In England, the number of under-18s entering drug treatment who describe ketamine as one of their problem substances rose from 335 to 917 between 2020-21 and 2023-24, according to the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System.
An anonymised 2023 survey of more than 13,000 secondary schoolchildren from 185 schools across England reported 11% of 15-year-olds had been offered ketamine at some point. The same study, conducted for NHS England, suggested the use of ketamine among schoolchildren had more than doubled in the last decade from 0.4% in 2013 to 0.9% in 2023.

Ketamine gained attention after the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry, with a coroner ruling it as the primary cause
The drug came into the spotlight following the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry aged 54, after which a coroner found ketamine had been the primary cause. Doctors and experts subsequently described how the market for the drug in the US has exploded as it has grown in popularity among Hollywood celebrities.
And thousands of miles away, among ordinary young people in *** towns, ketamine – also known as special K, vitamin K, or kit kat – has also become fashionable. Although highly dangerous, it is often seen as a sociable way to get high, with users buying it in powder form and snorting it.
Now, just 11 years after ketamine was reclassified from Class C to Class B, the *** government is seeking expert advice on whether to make ketamine a Class A drug. This would mean anyone supplying it could be handed a life sentence.
But some experts are sceptical this would make much of a difference. While ketamine use appears to be on the rise among the young, there is a sharp divide in opinion around what can be done to halt that.
‘It’s in the schools, it’s in the parks’
One Saturday afternoon in September 2023, the hottest day of the year, a 16-year-old called Preston McNally took ketamine with three friends in Burnley. High on the drug, he fell into the Leeds and Liverpool canal that flows through the town. Preston’s friends had also taken the drug and did not call for help straight away, an inquest was later told.
The coroner said Preston drowned due to ketamine intoxication. The inquest also heard that he had told his sister he was trying to quit just before he died.
Those on the front line are well aware of the scale of the problem. “The amount of mums that have said to me, ‘It’s everywhere’,” says Fr Alex Frost from St Matthews Church in the town. He runs a support group for parents of ketamine users. “It’s in the schools, it’s in the parks.”
Across Lancashire, recorded offences for possession and supply of ketamine rose by nearly 70% from 54 in 2023 to 91 in 2024. “What we have seen, probably within the last 12 months, is the upturn in the use, particularly around children,” says Insp Matt Plummer of Lancashire Police. “Sometimes the parents have no idea.”
Getty Images
Once known as a party drug linked to club culture, ketamine use now appears to be shifting
Once ketamine was known as a party drug, associated with the club scene. But there’s evidence to suggest that has changed. In a 2024 report into drug trends in Greater Manchester, school-aged children recounted how they used it with friends to “chill” in the local parks or at home.
Those who go on to use it away from social settings are often doing so “to self-medicate unmet mental health support needs such as anxiety and trauma”, says the author of the report, Robert Ralphs, a professor of criminology and social policy at Manchester Metropolitan University.
‘Everybody else is doing it’
One mother, who we are calling Claire, told the BBC she was oblivious to the fact that her 14-year-old daughter Lexi (not her real name) was addicted to ketamine until the teenager ended up in hospital with severe stomach cramps.
Lexi, who lives on a neat, well-cared-for street in Burnley, loved sport and dancing. But after she started secondary school, she says, a friend introduced her to ketamine.
“I knew it was ********… and it was a horse tranquiliser,” says Lexi. “That’s all I knew. I didn’t really want to do it, but I just thought, well, everybody else is doing it and I didn’t really want to be the odd one out.”
One reason that so many young people are gravitating towards ketamine is they can buy it for pocket-money prices, according to Lexi. “It were easy to get – like, really easy,” she says.

Many young people are turning to ketamine because it is affordable and easy to buy, according to Lexi
In Burnley, friends will chip in for the £15 to £30 it costs for a gram and share it.
To feed her habit, Lexi would ask her mum for a couple of pounds for the bus or some make-up – or sometimes she would steal a £10 note. If Lexi had been coming home drunk or smelling of weed, her mother Claire would have twigged. Claire says: “I was absolutely gobsmacked, just distraught, really, thinking: how did I not know?”
‘You’re doing stupid amounts’
What makes ketamine especially dangerous is that lots of people, particularly young people, wrongly see it as a lower-risk drug, says Mrs Wilson of the WithYou charity.
At lower doses, she says, it has a similar effect to alcohol. “The effects can wear off from about 40 minutes to just over an hour after taking it,” she adds. “If you want to keep those effects, then repeat dosing is required to continue them.”
And this means users’ habits can escalate rapidly, according to Aaron (not his real name), who lives in a small town outside Burnley and took his first snort of ketamine when he was just 16.
“Your tolerance goes up extremely quickly and within the first month you’re doing stupid amounts,” he says. Soon he was spending £200 month on the drug.
Higher doses can lead to a state known as a K-hole, “which is where you become completely detached from reality and also paralysed”, says Mrs Wilson.
Then there is the psychological impact. The WithYou charity is helping Lexi recover from dependence on the drug, but also trauma and self-harm. Once, when she was high, she was the victim of a ******* assault. When kids are on ketamine, they are extremely vulnerable.
‘Extremely dangerous’
Some of the families of ketamine addicts the BBC has spoken to want the drug reclassified as Class A. But this would also mean children caught in possession of ketamine could face up to seven years in jail rather than five. Putting ketamine in the same bracket as heroin and ******** “may increase the stigma and make young people less likely to discuss their use and seek help”, warns Prof Ralphs.
The government is currently seeking expert advice from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) on whether the drug should be reclassified. “Ketamine is an extremely dangerous substance and the recent rise in its use is deeply concerning,” says Dame Diana Johnson, the policing minister. “It is vital we are responding to all the latest evidence and advice to ensure people’s safety and we will carefully consider the ACMD’s recommendations before making any decision.”
Joe Frost
Families in Burnley are calling for more support to tackle what Fr Frost describes as a ketamine “epidemic”
Families in the Burnley area say the authorities also need to do more to help those suffering as a result of what Fr Frost calls an “epidemic” of ketamine use.
In response, Lancashire County Council says it is “dedicated to supporting children and young people affected by ketamine use in our community” and that it “will continue to work tirelessly to address the challenges posed by ketamine use and to provide the necessary support to those in need”.
‘The urge is always there’
There is scepticism from those on the frontline that increased enforcement will solve the issue.
“It’s not a case that we can just arrest our way out of the ketamine issue,” says Insp Plummer. “You could arrest 10, 15 people a day for the possession of ketamine if you found them, but it’s not going to change the cycle, particularly with kids.” He adds that generally children caught with ketamine are given informal words of advice and referred for support, not charged.
And some experts query how effective reclassification would be. These include Prof Ralphs, who observes that the 2014 shift from Class C to Class B has not prevented the recent rise in usage among young people. He also suggests that would have no impact on people’s decisions to supply it either, as most ketamine dealers already supply Class A substances as well. He adds that reclassification “will not deter young people from using it if their underlying mental health and wellbeing needs continue to be unmet”.
In the meantime, no one yet knows what the long-term effects will be for children who start taking ketamine at 12, 13 or 14. Community leaders and the families the BBC spoke to say they cannot wait for change, and that urgent action is needed now to try to prevent more young people suffering.
Lexi says she is trying to move forward with her life. Since the doctors at the hospital told Lexi where her life could be heading, she has not used ketamine.
Getting the drug out of her head is still not easy. She insists she will never take another dose of ketamine. But, she says, “the urge is always there for me to do it again”.

Father-stepson duo were first to respond to deadly I-75 ****** in Detroit
Father-stepson duo were first to respond to deadly I-75 ****** in Detroit
The Brief
Two people died and several others were injured after a four-car ****** on I-75 over the weekend
A father and stepson duo were among the first to help out after spotting the scene while driving on the highway
Among those injured in the ****** were two toddlers
(FOX 2) – Two people died and several others were injured after four cars were involved in a deadly wreck on I-75 over the weekend.
Prosecutors are now reviewing the case while the two good Samaritans who responded to the scene and helped those injured were left thankful for their safety.
Big picture view
On Sunday afternoon, a 58-year-old woman driving an old Ford sedan with a passenger inside failed to brake before crashing into the back of a 2021 Chevy Traverse that was slowing down due to traffic.
The Traverse, which had three people inside, then crashed into Kia SUV that had four people inside, as well as a Jeep with one driver.
Both the passenger in the Ford, a 50-year-old man from Novi, and a 56-year-old woman from Farmington Hills who was in the Kia, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Other occupants in the vehicle, including two toddlers, were also injured in the ******.
Prosecutors are now reviewing the ****** after a report from Michigan State Police directed blame to the Ford sedan.
What they’re saying
It was a dad and his stepson who were traveling to Detroit that were the first to respond to the scene, near Mack Avenue.
“It was pretty horrific, I mean, being a parent, you don’t know whether to attend to the injured or to keep your eyes on your kids or to watch out for traffic, you know?” said Sal Kachal. “So my head and my focus was everywhere.”
He was traveling with 15-year-old Nicholas Jirjis, who both pulled over to help after witnessing the ******.
“There was a baby trapped in a car and there was a gas leak in the car and the baby needed to be out the car,” said Jirjis. “My stepdad couldn’t get the car seat undone, so I went to the passenger side and I got it undone.”
As they waited for first responders to arrive, they helped direct traffic the best they could.
Kachal admitted both he and his stepson were “pretty much traumatized by the scene.”
“It just takes a toll on you mentally,” he said.

Jaecoo J7 SHS: New PHEV details revealed ahead of imminent launch
Jaecoo J7 SHS: New PHEV details revealed ahead of imminent launch
The 2025 Jaecoo J7 SHS will be available to pre-order from March 1, with the brand’s customer website revealing some new details about the upcoming plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV.
Arriving shortly after the standard petrol-only J7 2WD range, the SHS – or Super Hybrid System – version of Jaecoo’s first model in Australia makes bold claims about its efficiency and driving range.
After previously indicating a WLTP electric driving range of 90 kilometres and combined driving range of 1200km, Jaecoo is advertising the J7 SHS will be capable of 106 kilometres of EV range from its 18.3kWh battery pack.
This new figure is based on the local ADR 81/02 test cycle, which itself is based on the more lenient NEDC test parameters.
Other new details include the confirmation of a 150kW electric motor teamed with the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, as well as claimed fuel consumption of just 1.0L/100km on the ADR lab test cycle.

Earlier this month Jaecoo confirmed preliminary specifications for the petrol-powered Jaecoo J7 range, which will kick off with 2WD variants only. AWD and PHEV models will arrive shortly after, and full details will come in March.

The Jaecoo J7 is classified as a mid-sized SUV, measuring 4500mm long, 1865mm wide and 1680mm tall, riding on a 2672mm wheelbase.
It’s a new entrant in Australia’s most popular and hotly-contested new vehicle segment, set to go up against the likes of favourites like the Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Outlander and Mazda CX-5. Further, there are a number of other ******** challengers, including Chery’s own Tiggo 7 Pro, as well as the GWM Haval H6 and MG HS.
The option of a PHEV drivetrain, likely at a sub-$50,000 base price point, is still fairly unique at this end of the market.
Currently, the BYD Sealion 6 and Mitsubishi Outlander are the only vehicles in market with a PHEV option, though GWM is about to launch a plug-in version of its Haval H6 GT, and the MG HS will also soon be adding a PHEV option.
Stay tuned for an international first drive review of the new Jaecoo J7 SHS in the coming weeks.

Playwith Thailand has opened pre-registration sign-ups for R.O.H.A.N.: The Vengeance, the studio’s upcoming fantasy MMORPG. Fed expected to respond strongly to inflation, job market conditions, research shows
Fed expected to respond strongly to inflation, job market conditions, research shows
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Investors and economists expect the U.S. central bank to respond “strongly and systematically” to changes in inflation and the labor market, according to research published on Monday by the San Francisco Fed that underscores the current sensitivity of financial markets to U.S. economic data.
The Fed’s perceived responsiveness to economic data picked up notably in 2022, driven first by inflation data and, last year, by labor market data, based on the analysis of perceptions embedded in professional forecasts and in bond market moves published in the regional Fed bank’s latest Economic Letter.
The findings are in line with the Fed’s actual response to inflation, which rose in 2021 but did not trigger any interest rate hikes until 2022. They also track with the Fed’s reaction to labor market data, which weakened notably in the middle of last year and helped drive the Fed’s decision to cut the policy rate by a full percentage point starting last September.
The Fed’s target policy rate is currently in the 4.25%-4.50% range. Recent weaker economic readings, including a survey released on Friday showing business activity fell to a 17-month low this month, have helped firm up market bets on two quarter-percentage-point reductions to the policy rate this year.
Worries about stalling economic growth appear to be outweighing fears of a resurgence in inflation, also evident in recent surveys, at least as far as market bets on how the Fed will react with monetary policy.
Interest rate futures contracts are currently priced for the first Fed rate cut this year to come in June, with the second to happen as early as October.

Realme 14 Pro Series Global Launch Confirmed at MWC Barcelona; ‘Ultra’ Model Reportedly Teased
Realme 14 Pro series debuted in India last month and its global launch has now been confirmed. The company has announced that its lineup, comprising the Realme 14 Pro and 14 Pro+, will be launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona. The event takes place between March 3-6 in the aforementioned nation. This also confirms the company’s participation at one of the world’s biggest technology showcases of the year. Realme has also reportedly teased an Ultra variant that could join the lineup as a new offering.
Realme 14 Pro Series Global Launch Confirmed
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Realme shared a short video clip which confirms that it will launch a smartphone with a “DSLR-level” smartphone camera at MWC Barcelona. While it did not officially reveal its name, it is widely believed to be the Realme 14 Pro series based on its appearance. Both models, the Realme 14 Pro and Realme 14 Pro+, are expected to have similar features and specifications as their Indian counterparts.
This includes a cold-sensitive colour-changing technology that reacts to temperature changes. The phone’s back cover claims to change from pearl white to blue when the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius. It will return to its original shade when the ambient temperature increases. Other specifications include AMOLED 120Hz screens, 50-megapixel cameras with optical image stabilisation (OI)S, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, and IP66+IP68+IP69 rating.
Meanwhile, Realme has also reported to have teased a new “Ultra” variant which might join the Realme 14 Pro series at the upcoming MWC Barcelona. It is said to have a camera sensor “larger” than other flagship models, although it remains unclear which devices the company is referring to here. The teaser shows a phone’s silhouette featuring a large, circular camera module which occupies the entire top-half of its back panel.
Realme 14 Pro Series Price in India
Realme 14 Pro 5G price in India starts at Rs. 24,999 for the 8GB+128GB model, while the 8GB+256GB variant is priced at Rs. 26,999. It is available in Jaipur Pink, Pearl White, and Suede Grey finishes.
