How to play Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is available on nearly every modern and popular platform. This includes Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. It can be played on Xbox Series X|S and PlaySation 5 via backward compatibility, and will likely be playable on Nintendo Switch 2 via backward compatibility, though this is not yet confirmed. It typically costs $15, and is on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC.

Stardew Valley currently does not have cross-platform multiplayer, and it seems likely that it never will. That means if you want to play multiplayer, everyone will need to be in the same family of platforms, like Xbox or PlayStation. If one person is on Nintendo Switch and the other is on PC, for example, you cannot play together.
Stardew Valley developer Eric Barone–also known as ConcernedApe–has not commented on cross-platform multiplayer in recent years, but did mention back in 2018 that “technical barriers are very high,” expressing that it’s a feature that he would want to add, but it might not be possible. The developer’s comments are reminiscent of those from Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who discussed why Fallout 76 doesn’t have cross-play, citing difficulty in adding it to a game that wasn’t initially designed for it.
How to play Stardew Valley multiplayer
If you are on the same family of systems, you can play multiplayer with up to four people total. This can be done either online via the internet, or in-person via split-screen, which does support four players. One person must be the host, either creating a new multiplayer save or converting an existing save by having Robin build additional cabins. Other players can join via an invite code online or by turning on an additional controller and hitting the menu button for split-screen.
It’s important to note that on mobile, playing multiplayer requires jumping through a few hoops, like entering the Konami code on the main menu and knowing the host’s IP address, but it does work.
One of the other important things to know about Stardew Valley multiplayer is that multiplayer saves are stored by the host. That means in order to play on your co-op save, the host needs to be present. Otherwise, you cannot access the save file.
Stardew Valley cheats, mods, and item IDs
Many players wonder whether Stardew Valley allows for mods. It does, but only on PC. Stardew Valley has a built-in cheats system/debug menu, but the most current version requires you to enable the cheats in your save file in order to access them. To do this, use Windows Key and “R,” which will open a run box, where you should type %appdata%.
Scroll through the results to see all the files on your computer and look for Stardew Valley. Click through and find the saves file. Look for your save, which will be the name of your farm followed by a series of numbers, if it contains the word ‘old,’ it’s an older save and not what you are looking for. Opening that will open a text file containing information about the save, control “F” to search for “allowChatCheats” which will take you to a line likely reading “false.” Change that to true, save and exit, and you should be able to access the commands in the game by hitting “T.”
Proceed with caution, as these are developer tools that can break your game, depending on what you choose to do. The primary two cheats are “/money,” which will give however much money you write as the number, so “/money 10000” gives 10,000 gold. The other is “/debug item” which will add an item to your inventory, corresponding to the item ID number placed after the text. You can find a complete list of item IDs on this website and you can find more debug commands on the official wiki.
PC players can also install mods and the mod community for Stardew Valley is quite active, with expansive content mods, smaller quality-of-life mods, and silly things, like adding the characters from Baldur’s Gate 3. The legal defense fund for Luigi Mangione, who is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December, surpassed the $1 million mark in donations on Tuesday, organizers said.
The fundraising effort, run through the online platform GiveSendGo, has topped $1.03 million in donations, which organizers say “represents a step forward in pursuing justice for Mr. Mangione” and donors showing “their grievances with our lethal for-profit healthcare system and the indefensible economic and political order that has imposed it upon us.”
“This milestone was reached because of the continued resonance of Mr. Mangione’s story,” Sam Beard, a spokesperson for the December 4 Legal Committee, said in a statement.
Organizers said they hope the fundraiser, which has received over 28,000 individual contributions with a median contribution of $20, reaches the $1.5 million mark.
The funds will cover expenses associated with all three pending criminal cases against Mangione in New York and Pennsylvania.
Mangione, who turned 27 on Tuesday, is facing both state and federal charges in New York in connection with the Dec. 4 slaying of Thompson outside a midtown Manhattan hotel.
Thompson was on his way to speak at UnitedHealth Group’s investor conference at the New York Hilton Midtown when he was shot from behind, authorities said.
After a five-day manhunt, Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He faces state charges in Pennsylvania for allegedly carrying an unlicensed firearm, forgery, and providing false identification.
If convicted of federal charges, Mangione could be sentenced to death.
Thompson’s slaying immediately launched an unseemly wave of support for his killer, days before Mangione was captured in Pennsylvania.
Representatives of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York could not immediately comment on Tuesday.

Major Destiny 2 Reveals – Metroidvania Exploration, Star Wars Lightsabers, New Multi-Year Fate Saga
Bungie today pushed forward an array of new details regarding Destiny 2 and what players can expect to discover in the game over the next year. The scope and range of topics touched upon was extensive, though it’s clear that many of the more comprehensive details will arrive in other formats in the coming weeks and months. Even so, there’s a lot to unpack from what was shared.
Much of the stream focused on The Edge of Fate, the upcoming expansion to the game set to arrive on July 15. The Edge of Fate takes players to a new destination – a planetoid floating through the Oort Cloud at the edge of the solar system – called Kepler. Here, players navigate a Metroidvania-inspired destination of mysteries and secrets, fueled by new powers granted through dark matter. Kepler will feature multiple world tiers of challenge that unlock over time as you play. Mysteries and puzzles might be solved one way in an early tier, only to change as you acquire new abilities and power in later tiers.
Kepler will also bring an array of new specific powers. The premier ability is one called Matter Spark, which allows players to use a special pad to transform into a ball of bouncing arc energy and then zip about the environment, jumping, electrocuting enemies, squeezing through tight spaces, and rolling along ramps for distant leaps. In visuals, it was very reminiscent of Samus Aran’s morph ball feature from the Metroid games.
Players also gain other new abilities on Kepler, like a Relocator Cannon that allows for teleportation through the space, and Matter Morph, which allows players to use Strand energy to reshape the environment, creating bridges, revealing secrets, and opening doors.
The Edge of Fate storyline is the opening salvo to a new multi-year saga from the Destiny team which they’ve dubbed the Fate Saga. As The Edge of Fate gets going, players are finally going to get more details about the mysterious entities called The Nine – a group of godlike extradimensional beings that are each individually connected to one of the major bodies in the solar system (eight planets and the Sun). We’ll see returning characters like Ikora Rey play a major role, but also new characters, including a bespectacled new character named Lodi. On a broader level, the Fate Saga appears to be deal strongly with the idea that The Nine have their own motivations that have often manipulated the Guardians to a particular fate, and the new storyline questions how much the Guardians are able to alter that fate, if at all.
As a lead-up to the new expansion, Bungie is launching a new prologue chapter called the Rite of the Nine, and it begins today. The new event includes access to three dungeons, each at three different tiers of difficulty, aiming to be inviting to all player skill levels. The Rite of the Nine includes exclusive rewards, including a new title. And it also serves to reintroduce the Emissary – a prior character from earlier storylines that we still know very little about.
While we learned a good bit about the expansion, we also got a peek in today’s stream into more substantial changes coming to the core game of Destiny 2. The longtime use of “The Director” as a front page to play is being overhauled. Starting with The Edge of Fate, players will be invited to “Open Portal” to jump into a streamlined menu selection of activities, dominated by different ops split into Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle and Crucible ops.
The overall focus for changes is on providing increased player agency, so these different ops allow for dramatic levels of activity customization, including 50 new modifiers to tweak the gameplay. As an example, we heard about a grapple modifier that gives environment navigation a feeling more akin to being Spider-Man. For those who want a more curated experience, there are also Quickplay selections; most activities also allow for a fireteam finder.
Gear is also changing, including a dramatic reinvention of equipment being dubbed Armor 3.0, which includes set bonuses for armor, and the ability to fully tweak armor perks as soon as an item is acquired. Gear tiers are another major change, which see acquired gear coming in at one of five distinct tiers of quality; players who acquire a Tier 5 weapon (which are the hardest to get) will have a special shader treatment and other features that make them unmistakable as the best in a given class.
We also received a scattering of other info drops about what’s on the way. Some of the most important is the soon-to-arrive new Crucible mode called Heavy Metal, which pits tanks against mech-style brigs in large-scale battles; engage with this activity and you can earn the new Griffin combat vehicle, which can be equipped into your Sparrow slot. We learned of a new permanent feature of the Tower called the Shooting Range, where players can test out their builds against a variety of enemy types. Players were also shown new holofoil treatments that will come on weapons, including a slick ocean wave effect that will be available with Solstice weapons later this summer. We also learned that the new raid will launch only days after The Edge of Fate reaches players; expect to try for that world-first title on July 19.
Of all the announcements, the most surprising was the reveal of 2025’s second expansion, which we’ll learn more about through a dedicated reveal in September. Renegades is described as a full-on in-lore Destiny expansion that moves the core story forward. But it’s also described as a direct homage to the universe of Star Wars, and appears (among other things) to include direct mashing-together crossover elements between the two sci-fi/fantasy properties, including Guardians wielding lightsabers. It’s safe to say that longtime Destiny fans may have strong opinions about such a direct melding of the two popular universes. Regardless, it’s clear that Bungie has robust plans for what’s to follow, as we also learned that the Fate Saga will continue into 2026 with additional expansions titled Shattered Cycle and The Alchemist.

The *** and India have agreed a trade deal to make it cheaper and easier to buy and sell goods and services to one another.
The hope is that the deal will benefit the economies of both countries.
The British government said the deal was the “biggest and most economically significant” trade agreement the *** had signed since leaving the European Union in 2020.
Here’s a quick guide to what’s been agreed and what it could mean for you.
What has been agreed?
The *** has lowered taxes on goods imported from India including:

India has cut taxes on goods imported from the *** including:

The deal will also allow British firms to compete for more services contracts in India.
What will be the impact on people in the *** and India?
The trade deal won’t come into force for up to a year, so don’t expect to notice any immediate changes.
Over time though, the *** government says lowering tariffs on the likes of clothing, jewellery, and frozen prawns “could” lead to cheaper prices and more choice.
This deal could also be a big win for *** businesses which manufacture the goods which have seen tariffs slashed, such as car makers and whisky distillers.
For example, tariffs on whisky and **** being imported to India from the *** will be halved from 150% to 75% before reducing to 40% by the 10th year of the deal. Car tariffs will fall from more than 100% to 10%.
That will provide a boost to those two industries, which look set to be hit hard by US tariffs, as it will mean Indian companies wanting to import those products will pay less import charges than before.
If businesses end up exporting more goods to India and make higher profits, this could lead to them spending more on hiring staff, investing and also paying more tax.
In India, consumers could see much more choice among the goods which have been included under the deal. Clothing manufacturing businesses and jewellers will also be able to access the *** market which will boost their margins.
How important is this for the *** and India?
This deal has been a long time in the making, with on-off negotiations going on for some three years.
However it appears US President Donald Trump’s introduction of tariffs on goods entering America has prompted other world leaders to consider striking free-trade deals with one another.
The ***’s deal with India is its third biggest after its agreements with Australia and Japan. For context, the *** has signed trade deals and agreements in principle with about 70 countries and one with the EU.
The EU is the biggest trade partner for both the *** and India. Therefore, a free trade agreement between India and the EU would be more significant than the one with the ***. Both India and the EU have said they aim to finalise this by the end of 2025.
Last year trade between the *** and India totalled £41bn. The *** government has said this deal would boost that trade by an additional £25.5bn a year by 2040.
It is said over time it will boost the *** economy by £4.8bn. This is a tiny proportion of the *** economy which was worth £2,851bn last year.
However, India is also forecast to become the world’s third-largest economy in a few years. It is also home to 1.45bn people – about 20 times the population of the *** -which is a lot of potential customers.
The *** is also a high priority trading partner for India, which has an ambitious target to grow exports by $1 trillion by 2030.
What does this mean for visas?
One of the reasons the *** India free trade deal has taken so long to reach is that India had made big demands about visas for Indian professionals and students to work and study abroad.
The British government said this deal does not include any change in immigration policy, including towards Indian students studying in the ***.
But it does includes a three-year exemption on the social security paid by Indian employees working in the ***, on short-term visas.
This agreement, known as the Double Contribution Convention, designed to ensure social security contributions are not made in more than one country, was one of the elements India had pushed for during negotiations.
The ***’s Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the deal would make it easier for people with certain skills to work in the *** temporarily.
“It opens up a small number of visas from an existing route for chefs and musicians and yoga teachers, very, very small, about 1,800.”

Destiny 2 Fate Saga Roadmap Revealed Into 2026
Bungie has revealed its plans for the next long story arc for Destiny 2. The developers have revealed a “multi-year saga” in the form of the Fate Saga. The beginning of this new chapter of Destiny’s story, there will be four expansions to start us off known as the Year of Prophecy.
Starting on July 15, 2025 with The Edge of Fate, players will journey to the mysterious planetoid Kepler and find more questions than answers about the universe at large. After that on December 2, 2025, we will get the expansion Renegades. As per Bungie’s new content roadmap plans, there will now be two expansions a year going forward. So now with more densely-packed expansions than what players have seen with Episodes and less waiting time, more content will be seen quickly rather than the 1-2 year gap between expansions as before.
In between each expansion there will also be what Bungie is dubbing “Major Updates,” with overhauls to the sandbox, new events, modifier and challenge updates, new gear and Artifact mods, and more. On September 9, 2025, the first major update of the Season of Reclamation, titled Ash & Iron, will release. Then, as part of Renegades and the Season of Lawless, the Shadow & Order update will drop on March 3, 2026. The most-enticing detail here is that each major update will not cost anything, nor will it be vaulted or taken away. Major updates will be free to all Destiny 2 players, and the content they bring will always be part of the game at large. These updates will be approximately the size of the Into the Light seasonal update with lots of events and new content to find.
That’s not all, as we already have names for the next expansions for the Year of Prophecy going into 2026 as well. Shattered Cycle will launch in Summer 2026. Finally, in Winter 2026 will be the finale of the Year of Prophecy, The Alchemist.
Bungie have said they promise to show lots of new destinations, new gameplay features, and even some returning favorites. Included among all of the massive updates coming starting this July is a customizable difficulty for destinations, which we detail in this article here.

Republican Senator Says He’ll Vote Against Pick for U.S. Attorney
Thom Tillis, a key Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said on Tuesday that he would not support the nomination of Ed Martin, the interim U.S. attorney for Washington who has been nominated to hold that post, dealing a major blow to one of President Trump’s most polarizing nominees.
Mr. Tillis, who faces a potentially difficult re-election campaign in North Carolina next year, told reporters at the Capitol that he had informed the White House that he could not back Mr. Martin, a 2020 election denier, because as a lawyer in private practice he had defended rioters who stormed the building on Jan. 6, 2021.
That would leave the committee deadlocked at 11 to 11, with all 10 Democrats on the panel opposing Mr. Martin. He was on the grounds of the Capitol, supporting Mr. Trump’s false claims of a stolen election, the day the violent mob broke through the cordon of police officers.
Mr. Martin’s nomination has been teetering amid revelations that in 2021 he appeared on a podcast hosted by a white nationalist and compared former President Biden to Adolf Hitler. Mr. Tillis’s action could spare reluctant Republicans from casting a “yes” vote for a nominee many privately see as ill-suited, even unfit, for the job.
“Most of my concerns are related to Jan. 6,” said Mr. Tillis, who met on Monday with Mr. Martin, a conservative lawyer from Missouri, describing him as “a good man.”
Mr. Tillis said Mr. Martin had made a compelling case that some of those prosecuted for Jan. 6 might have been treated too harshly, but failed to allay his larger concerns.
“Where we probably have a difference is, I think anybody that reached the perimeter should have been in prison for some ******* of time, whether it’s for 30 days or three years, which is debatable,” Mr. Tillis added. “But I have no tolerance for anyone who entered the building.”
Mr. Martin, a Missouri Republican who has used social media to threaten critics of Mr. Trump and Elon Musk, has upended one of the most important U.S. attorney’s offices in the country. He has purged nonpolitical career staff involved in the investigations of the Jan. 6 attack.
Mr. Trump has been working the phones, according to administration officials, to assuage concerns within his own party about Mr. Martin, who has ingratiated himself to Mr. Trump by using the power of his office to threaten the president’s enemies.
But a significant indication that effort was falling short emerged in recent days when the committee’s chairman, Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, did not include a vote on Mr. Martin’s nomination on this week’s calendar as expected.
White House officials gave no sign that they intended to pull Mr. Martin’s nomination, or what they planned to do if his nomination failed, as is now likely.
If his interim appointment expires on May 20, it would fall to the Federal District Court in Washington to fill the vacancy until the administration names a new nominee.
“Ed Martin is a fantastic U.S. attorney for D.C. and will continue to implement the president’s law-and-order agenda in Washington,” Alex Pfeiffer, a Trump spokesman, said in a statement. “He is the right man for the job and we look forward to his confirmation.”
The Republican leadership of the Senate could intervene and bring the nomination to the floor. But that is unlikely, considering the growing opposition on both sides of the aisle to a novice prosecutor who has used his office to threaten academic institutions and Democrats — to the delight of the president, aides said.
While Mr. Trump’s support for Mr. Martin could prove decisive, his prospects remain uncertain, with four to five Republican senators, including Mr. Tillis, suggesting they might oppose him on the floor.
Senator John Thune, Republican of South Dakota and the majority leader, told CNN on Tuesday that the announcement by Mr. Tillis “would suggest that he’s not probably going to get out of committee.”

The 6,187-piece Razor Crest faithfully recreates Din Djarin’s assault ship from The Mandalorian and comes with a small display plaque and minifigures of Mando, the Mythrol, Kulil, and Grogu. There’s even a weapons cabinet and carbon-freezing chamber–and since the top is removable (along with its engines), you can easily view this detailed interior.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Ultimate Collector Series, it’s a subseries within the sprawling Star Wars Lego universe reserved for only the most intricate, detailed, and authentic builds.

The only thing missing from Wordle’s status as a cultural institution was a day devoted to it, and now we have that, too.
Welcome to Wordle Day, or May 6, to be precise. Why today? “Because Wordle uses five letters with six guesses to find a secret word, we thought May 6 would be the perfect date to celebrate the game that has sparked a joyful daily routine for so many people across the globe,” said New York Times Wordle Editor Tracy Bennett.
Okay, that makes some self-serving sense, and who are we to argue with that logic when most of us are hooked on daily plays of the word game that asks us to figure out a five-letter word in six tries?

If you have any questions about Wordle’s popularity or why it deserves a day, look at these stats. According to the NYT, there have been, to date, 5.3 billion Wordle game plays. A massive 2.8 million people use the same starter word every day.
Wordle’ is certainly an institution here, where our daily Wordle today column provides some hints then walks you through how we solved it. I hope you don’t read those posts before trying to solve the puzzle on your own, but you do you.

Wordle is also a competitive sport. In my house, my wife and I end each evening completing several puzzles, including Wordle, Connections, Strands, and Quordle (the only non-NYT game).
Wordle is invariably our first stop, and, yes, there is a competition to see who can solve it in the fewest tries. So, it should come as no surprise that to celebrate this totally made-up day, The New York Times introduced Wordle Golf.

This is not another word game (thank goodness, I can’t take on any more). Instead, it’s a reimaginging of the standard Wordle competition into a golf game format.
As with golf, there are 18 holes…or, er…puzzles. You can play against seven other players (or more if you, I guess, print out more Wordle Golf sheets).
Each game is scored similarly to a golf game, meaning you want the lowest score (more strokes in golf raise your score and are generally considered a bad thing).
The scoring system for Wordle Golf breaks down like this:
6 points for a guess on the sixth try
5 points for a “Bogey” or fifth attempt guess.
A guess in four is “Par” and worth 4 points,
Three is worth 3 points and considered a “Birdie”
2 guesses is worth 2 points and a rare “Eagle”
1 is the miracle of a “Hole in one” and worth 1.
In theory, you can spend most of May playing Wordle Golf, but it does mean that no one should skip a day.
It’s a silly game, but probably less difficult and frustrating than 18 holes on a real golf course.
Who knows, if you’re a real Wordle pro, this might be just the kind of challenge you’ve been waiting for. Let’s just hope there’s not another “CORER”. That was the word, according to The New York Times, that broke 5.6 million streaks.

(Reuters) -Tensions on Capitol Hill over President Donald Trump’s various cryptocurrency ventures escalated on Tuesday and threatened to derail the digital asset sector’s hope of legislation by the end of this year as a top Democratic lawmaker stalled efforts to debate a bill.
Although Congress had appeared likely earlier this year to pass legislation governing digital assets for the first time, Democrats have grown increasingly frustrated as Republican Trump and his family members have promoted their personal crypto projects.
Representative Maxine Waters’ objection to a joint hearing scheduled for Tuesday effectively cancelled proceedings between the House Financial Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, which were due to discuss creating a new legal regime for cryptocurrencies.
Trump’s crypto ventures include a so-called meme coin called $Trump, launched in January, and a business called World Liberty Financial, a crypto company owned partly by the president. Trump on social media has promoted a private dinner later this month for the top holders of his meme coin, along with a “special VIP tour” for a select few investors.
The business endeavors have drawn criticism from government ethics experts and political opponents over potential conflicts of interest, especially because Trump courted cash from the crypto industry on the campaign trail and pledged to overhaul regulations for the sector.
They have also put further legislation this year related to cryptocurrency in doubt as some lawmakers have expressed concern about self-dealing.
“I cannot in good faith agree to such a hearing to discuss crypto market structure while Republicans refuse to stop or even acknowledge Trump’s abuse of power,” Waters said in a statement ahead of the scheduled hearing.
Representative French Hill, the Republican chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said that Waters objecting to Tuesday’s hearing “has thrown partisanship into what has historically been a strong, good, working bipartisan relationship.”
In a statement, Anna Kelly, the White House deputy press secretary, said there were no conflicts of interest and that Trump’s assets are in a trust managed by his children.
“President Trump is dedicated to making America the crypto capital of the world and revolutionizing our digital financial technology,” she said.
Still, Trump’s crypto arrangements have threatened to derail legislation that was once considered near certain by analysts and lobbyists to pass this year. Congress is also debating a bill to create a regulatory framework for stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a constant value, usually a 1:1 dollar peg.

Senate Democrats have expressed concerns about the bill, especially after World Liberty Financial announced last week that its stablecoin would be used by an Abu Dhabi investment firm for its $2 billion investment in crypto exchange Binance.
The White House wants that bill to pass the Senate by next week, according to a source familiar with the discussions. But some Democrats said on Saturday that Republicans had failed to negotiate on stronger provisions related to foreign stablecoin issues and anti-money-laundering protections, and that they would be unable to support the bill as it currently stands.
The stablecoin bill could still pass the Senate, in which Republicans hold the majority, but could pose a setback for the crypto industry which has tried to portray digital asset regulation as a bipartisan issue.

With the arrival of Xbox Studios titles on PS5, PlayStation players have not wasted a second to jump right into them. Going multiplatform with some of their flagship titles has been a boon for PlayStation, obviously, since never-before-released titles are popping up on the platform, but it has proved to be even more beneficial for Xbox itself, as their games keep topping the PS charts.
The year ahead is already stacked for PlayStation, featuring massive first-party releases like Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei, but the arrival of first-party Xbox Studios games on the platform for the first time in the history of gaming has made the year even more notable for PlayStation, and 2025 will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest years in gaming. Even though the year’s still young, Xbox Studios is already dominating PlayStation on its own platform.
Oblivion Remastered, Minecraft and Forza lead April’s PS5 charts
According to @klobrille on X, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered leads the April PS5 charts, with Minecraft and Forza Horizon 5 right behind. Even if Xbox couldn’t dominate PlayStation when it comes to hardware sales, they’re clearly dominating the PS5 charts, and this will most likely do nothing but encourage and motivate Xbox to further release their other first-party titles on their competitor’s platform.

Although all of these titles are on Game Pass, they’re still doing very well on PlayStation, from the looks of it, and this is a great sign for upcoming first-party Game Pass titles like Doom: The Dark Ages. Oblivion Remastered topping the April chart could also convince Xbox to release the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation, even though the game is still most likely years away from launch.
Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones both topped the pre-order charts on PlayStation as soon as they went live, so it’s not surprising for Xbox Studios games to do well after release on PlayStation. While Sony is focusing more on innovating their hardware and creating the most immersive console experience possible, Microsoft’s focus is more on bringing their games to as many players as possible, and so far, their multiplatform strategy hasn’t let them down.
Gears of War: Reloaded is next in line

PlayStation has finally bagged both GoW‘s on their platform with Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the first Gears of War game, releasing August 26 of this year. Thankfully, it won’t be affected by the price hike as the official price of the game has been revealed to be a reasonable $39.99. It’s just a matter of time before we see Halo following suit and dropping on PlayStation.
Aside from being remastered from the ground up, the game will also feature 4k resolution, 120 FPS support, and a fully cross-progression and cross-play enabled multiplayer experience, so players are getting the full next-gen package. Eventually, when Halo comes to PlayStation 5, Sony will have secured the three pillars of Xbox games under its catalog: Forza, Gears of War, and Halo, completely driving Xbox out of the console exclusivity market, with only a few exceptions.

On Tuesday, Intel notified Tom’s Hardware that it officially cut the suggested retail price (SRPs) of its boxed Core Ultra 7 200-series processors for desktops by around $100. It is common for CPU developers to cut the prices of their products, but it is uncommon for companies like Intel to formally confirm such moves. However, there is a small catch: since we are dealing with SRPs, actual prices may vary.
Effective immediately, Intel’s Core Ultra 7 processor 265K has a suggested retail price of $299 (previously $399), whereas the Core Ultra 7 model 265KF carries an SRP of $284 (previously $384). According to Intel, as these are SRPs, actual prices will vary between retailers and markets depending on taxes, tariffs, and all the other variables that go into the point-of-***** price.
Intel also noted that its suggested price guidance is separate from ongoing bundles/retail promotions, so if you are lucky enough, buyers can still get an Intel Core Ultra 7 200S-series processor with a bundled game or professional applications.
Recommended customer prices (RRPs) of Intel’s range-topping Core Ultra 9 285/285K ($549/$589) and performance mainstream Core Ultra 5 245/245K/245KF ($270/$309/$294) remain unchanged, so Intel is probably trying to address a very particular audience with the price cut rather than make the whole Core Ultra 200S-series ‘Arrow Lake-S’ lineup more competitive. Meanwhile, this is arguably a thing that Intel must do to sustain its market share, as its Arrow Lake-S LGA1851 platform is usually more expensive than the previous-generation LGA1700 platform and AMD’s AM5 platform.
Even Intel itself recently confirmed that sales of its 14th Generation Core ‘Raptor Lake’ processors were booming, whereas sales of its newer Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, and Meteor Lake CPUs were below expectations. Keeping in mind that the performance of Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs in games is higher compared to the performance of competing Arrow Lake-S offerings, it is not surprising that gamers prefer previous-generation CPUs or platforms from AMD, which are even faster in many cases.

Joe Thompson’s family have paid tribute to him after his death in April
The family of former Rochdale footballer Joe Thompson have said they were “overwhelmed” by thousands of messages after his death from people whose lives he had touched.
Thompson, 36, who had been diagnosed with lymphoma three times in 12 years, died on 17 April after it spread to his lungs.
He had twice recovered from the disease, a form of blood *******, during his playing career.
His wife Chantelle said she and their 12-year-old daughter Thailula had spent as much time as possible with him to prioritise “creating memories”.
Together they told BBC Radio Manchester that Thompson’s struggles with the disease had brought them closer as a family over the years, and “made us view life differently”.
Thailula said: “You think ‘oh shoot, life is short’, you’ve got to spend as much time as we can together.
She said: “If Dad wasn’t diagnosed with *******, maybe that wouldn’t have brought us together as a family as much as it did.”
Chantelle and Thailula Thompson said they were “very proud” of husband and father Joe Thompson
The midfielder, originally from Bath, started his footballing career with Rochdale after coming through Manchester United’s academy system.
He finished his career in Rochdale after a third stint there five years before his death, having also played for Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United, Southport and Bury.
Chantelle said the public response to his death, both from within the football world and beyond, had been “incredible”.
“I think it really helps, especially in those first few days,” she said.
“Just reading people’s little stories and little memories that they have of Joe and even reaching out and telling the stories of things that we didn’t even know, how he helped and how he supported people.
“When I say hundreds, I mean thousands of messages, a lot of them are talking about how he’s helped them in some way.
“It’s quite overwhelming to think how many people he’s touched over a short *******.”

Thompson appeared in more than 200 games for clubs in the north of England
Thailula spoke of how her dad always tried to help other people, and said he “impacted so many people in that short time”.
She said: “I feel like he would rather had a short life but impacted more people than have a long life and impacted fewer people that make sense.
“I am very proud of him.”
After hanging up his boots, Thompson worked in the media as a pundit as well as mentoring and appearing as a motivational speaker.
In October 2024, after his third diagnosis, he took part in a 21-mile fundraising walk to raise awareness of ******* treatments.
About 300 people took part in the journey, from Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium to Rochdale’s Crown Oil Arena ground.
Chantelle revealed that Joe had kept journals “full of ideas” about charity work and plans for the future.
“We’ve got pages and pages full of his ideas, his wishes his things that he wanted to accomplish,” she said.
“We’d love to continue and carry on his legacy.”

Starfield’s latest beta update is now available for testing on Steam, with developer Bethesda Game Studio’s official patch notes detailing new Creation Kit options, display settings, and a whole heap of bug fixes.
The update brings a few additions to the game’s Creation Kit, where players can both create and download official Starfield user-made mods. Update 1.15.214 ups the size limit for Creations to 2GB, allows Creations to be bundled together in the Creations Store, and adds the ability for users to import new icons into the game through the Creation Kit.

There are also a number of new display options. A “Very Low” option for the game’s various display settings have been added to help “improve performance” on some devices, and Bethesda has additionally added support for 32:9 and 32:10 resolutions, as well as more 16:9, 16:10, and 21: 9 resolution options.
As for the rest of the update, it’s largely small quality-of-life tweaks or bug fixes. A new marker on the player’s compass will point towards their vehicle, for example, and players can now change the keybind for the boost button. Players on Steam can opt-in to the update by right-clicking Starfield in their library, selecting Properties, and then selecting Betas to download the new beta update.
Bethesda earlier this year promised fans of Starfield that the team was hard at work and that there are “lots of exciting things planned for the game this year that we can’t wait to talk about.”
What those “exciting things” will be is still unclear, but there is some recent evidence to suggest Starfield could finally be arriving on PlayStation 5 sooner rather than later. The sci-fi RPG first released in 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Starfield’s first (and so far only) expansion, Shattered Space, arrived in September 2024, shortly after the introduction of drivable land vehicles. Bethesda announced at the time that Starfield had been played by more than 15 million players.

Experts, politicians divided on how to get B.C. back on track for climate goals
B.C. Energy Minister Adrian **** says increasing electrical capacity and renewable projects would be a “significant” step for clean energy and climate goals, but not everyone agrees.
The call for new projects comes in the wake of B.C.’s latest climate accountability report that shows the province is not on track to meet its emissions reduction goals for 2030.
The 2024 Climate Change Accountability Report, released last week, reveals that, under current policies and programs, B.C. is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by just 20 per cent from 2007 levels by 2030 — falling short by half of its emissions reduction targets.
Critics of B.C.’s efforts to reach its ambitious climate goals say the province can’t expect to achieve them while continuing to pursue new LNG projects, because they will add to the province’s emissions.
Marc Lee, a senior economist for the ********* Centre for Policy Alternatives, is among those critics.
“The key reason why B.C. is struggling to meet its targets is because we’ve committed to developing an LNG export industry,” Lee said.
“What’s not in the report is that in just a couple months time, LNG Canada will open up in Kitimat and will increase our emissions by four to eight million tons per year.”
**** did not respond directly when asked if B.C. would refrain from pursuing future LNG projects in the interest of meeting its climate goals. He instead said that transportation made up the biggest increase in emissions in 2022, which is the most recent available data provided by the province.
**** said B.C.’s second call for power to boost electrical capacity and attract more renewable energy projects to the province is a critical step toward closing the gap to achieve future emissions targets.
“This is the most really significant action we’ve seen on new renewable electricity since the 60s,” he said.
“It’s good news for the planet, it’s good news for the economy, and it’s good news for CleanBC targets.”
However, some First Nations groups are worried these projects are being fast tracked at the expense of the environment.
“When we hear fast tracking we immediately think that they’re going to do it without consultation,” said Robert Philips of the First Nations Summit Political Executive, though he added that the premier has assured him that wouldn’t happen.

Road to meeting future climate goals uncertain
Kathryn Harrison, a professor of political science at the University of British Columbia, said she was encouraged to see increased transparency in this year’s report, including a more realistic picture of which policies will lead to reduced emissions.
She sees some policies working at moving the province closer to its goal and praised the call for new clean energy projects, but said B.C. needs to decarbonize “all aspects of our economy” to achieve future emissions targets.
The climate accountability report lays out several CleanBC measures expected to begin around 2030 and contribute to future emissions targets, such as the zero-carbon building code.
Harrison said this would make a difference when planning on how to meet future goals and thinks the province should also implement a zero-emission vehicle mandate for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as move forward on an oil-and-gas emissions cap.
“Time is really running out to get a 40 per cent reduction by 2030 — I think the key thing from my perspective is how soon will we get to 40 per cent, if not by 2030, can we do it in 2032?” she said.
Harrison also noted that new LNG projects are likely to drive up emissions even more, pushing B.C. further away from its emissions targets.

Jeremy Valeriote, interim leader of the B.C. Green Party, said he has been happy to see investments in transit and building retrofits. However, he added that he would like to see the province transition away from LNG and focus on renewable energy.
“I don’t think we should pursue the ones (LNG projects) that we have, I don’t think they’ll work out for us,” he said. “But at the very least, the three that have been permitted, we should draw the line there — we certainly don’t support any further projects.”
One challenge to accountability, Lee said, is that there is currently reduced attention on climate action in Canada and other countries, as tariffs and affordability concerns dominate political conversations. He feels this will need to change in order for the province to take more substantial action – and for it to make a difference for curbing the climate crisis.
“If no one else is acting, then it doesn’t matter what B.C. does … I think there’s a bit of a collective action problem,” he said.
