Australia’s Kadi luggage is big on style & performance, & now even ******* on value
Colleague Megan French is in England on a long trip, and she has with her new Kadi soft luggage.
Kadi is an ***********-owned and designed brand that launched in 2023. A spokesperson explains that it was “born from the need for affordable luggage that doesn’t compromise on quality or design”.
Colours are interesting, unusual and pastel, from charcoal to pebble, olive to a midnight dusk blue.
The durable shells of the hard cases are made from premium 100 per cent ******* polycarbonate.
And there is currently a ***** on the kadiluggage.com website.

+ For example, in their soft shell luggage, the medium Cloud check-in in charcoal is reduced from $329 to $297.40. Holding 81 litres, it weighs just 3.2kg and has a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
+ The large Cloud check-in, which Megan is using, is reduced from $379 to $227.40. It has a whopping 120-litre capacity yet weighs just 3.9kg.
+ The 40-litre Cloud Carry-on weighs 2.6kg — a distinct advantage with carry-on limits. It is reduced from $279 to $167.40.
+ Kadi also has an impressive range of hard-shell cases. I particularly like their Carry-On Business in olive. Currently reduced from $399 to $239.40, is cleverly designed, right down to frosted PVC pockets and a quick-access front pocket for tech. With a 38-litre capacity, it weighs 3.5kg.
+ There is also a Carry-On Leisure version of the hard-shell cases. They are currently reduced from $325 to $195.
+ Kadi also has weekender bags, pretty 33-litre over-shoulder and handle bags in subtle shades. They have a firm base, so they sit upright when you put them down.
+ There are also colourful bags designed for kids.
+ From the tough shell material through to durable spinner wheels and water-resistant zippers, Kadi’s product developers have worked to turn each Kadi piece into a “trusted companion”.

The latest on restocks, My Nintendo Store invites and more
The latest on restocks, My Nintendo Store invites and more
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are officially live at Nintendo’s online store — but only if you’ve received an invite. As advertised, the My Nintendo Store began sending out Switch 2 pre-order invites on Thursday to those who previously registered their interest and meet the company’s “priority criteria.”
If you’ve been chosen, congratulations! You have 72 hours from the time your email was sent to complete your purchase. If you previously signed up but haven’t received a notice, well, we’ll have to see when exactly it’ll arrive. Nintendo has been accepting registrations since April 2, and it’s sending invites to past Switch players and Switch Online subscribers before anyone else.
If you meet the priority requirements and signed up on the earlier side, you should (hopefully) get your invite before most others. If you signed up later, don’t be surprised if it takes awhile for Nintendo to grace your inbox. The company warned last month that it may not be able to send all invites — or even deliver all orders that do get placed — before the Switch 2’s June 5 release date.
Beyond Nintendo, the song sadly remains the same. As of our latest check, the device remains fully sold out at Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target and other retailers. This has mostly been the case in the US since the Switch 2 first went up for ***** on April 24, and it remains unclear when it’ll change.
That said, we’re keeping an eye out for any surprise restocks that pop up. If you’re still hoping to get your hands on the device early, we’ve rounded up all the Switch 2 pre-order listings we could find for easy access and broken down what to know about buying the console.
How to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 at the My Nintendo Store
As noted above, Nintendo is only selling the Switch 2 through an invite system, which began on April 2. While it seems unlikely you’ll receive your console before launch day if you sign up with Nintendo now, we still recommend doing so in case stock remains low at other stores. Registration is free, and you’ll receive your invite eventually, even if it takes some time.
On that point, Nintendo says it is prioritizing invites “on a first-come, first-served basis” to registrants who meet the following criteria:
You must have purchased a Switch Online membership as of April 2, 2025. If you’ve only ever been part of a family plan and weren’t the paying account, that’s a no-go.
You must have been a paid Switch Online subscriber for at least 12 months as of April 2, 2025.
You must have logged at least 50 hours of total Switch gameplay time as of April 2, 2025.
You must have opted into sharing gameplay data with Nintendo as of April 2, 2025. You can confirm this in your account’s privacy settings.
You must be a Nintendo account holder who is at least 18 years old.
If you fulfill those requirements, you’ll be ahead in Nintendo’s invite ******. If not, you’ll have to wait until after the priority registrants receive their emails. Once they do, the remaining invites will go out on a first-come, first-served basis. Whenever you get your email, you’ll have a 72-hour window to buy.
As with other stores, you have two models to pick from: the base Switch 2 console for $450, and a bundle with Mario Kart World for $500. Note that you can only purchase one console per invite. You’ll also be able to pick up certain accessories when it’s your time to shop.
Pre-order Nintendo Switch 2
Pre-order Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle
We received our invite late Thursday evening after signing up about an hour after the registration window first opened. We’ve posted screenshots of what the official invite email and buying process looks like below. (A previous version of this guide linked to screenshots from Reddit and the gaming forum ResetEra, but one ResetEra user appears to have shared a fake invite, so we’ve removed that.) Broadly speaking, the experience is far less chaotic than it’s been at other stores. Our confirmation email says that our console will ship by June 4.
How to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 at other retailers
Unfortunately, the Switch 2 remains sold out everywhere else as of this writing. To recap the situation: After a two-week delay, Nintendo finally kicked off Switch 2 pre-orders at third-party retailers in the US and Canada at midnight ET on April 24. A couple of (headache-inducing) hours later, stock at Walmart, Target and Best Buy had sold out. GameStop began taking pre-orders later that morning but quickly met the same fate. Some eagle-eyed buyers were reportedly able to pre-order through Walmart as late as April 26, but things have dried up since.
Other membership-based retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club have Switch 2 listings as well, but we haven’t seen anything to suggest they will accept pre-orders. Newegg also has a Switch 2 page but hasn’t provided an option to buy just yet. As for Amazon, we assume the Switch 2 will eventually be available there, but it’s not today, and there’s been no indication as to when that might change. (Even before the Switch 2 was unveiled, stock of the original Switch and first-party Switch games had been limited at Amazon US for several months.)
If you’re desperate to catch a restock, it’s a good idea to create a free account with the retailers above and ensure all of your shipping and billing info is up to date with each. Downloading each store’s mobile app and signing up for notifications may help too, though that could get annoying fairly quickly.
Pre-order Nintendo Switch 2

*As of 1:15pm ET on Friday, May 9, Amazon has not listed either Switch 2 console package for *****. We will update this article with direct links if they arrive; until then, we’re linking to the site’s Nintendo-focused hub.
How to pre-order Switch 2 accessories and games
Naturally, there are numerous accessories and games up for pre-order alongside the Switch 2 itself. While Nintendo hasn’t changed the console’s price since delaying its initial pre-order date, it has hiked the cost of several accessories due to “changes in market conditions” (read: tariffs). The new Switch 2 camera, for instance, now costs $55 instead of its original $50, while the Switch 2 Pro Controller leapt from $80 to $85. An extra set of Joy-**** 2 controllers is up to $95 from $90, and the official Joy-**** Charging Grip costs $40 instead of $35.
Most (but not all) of Nintendo’s official Switch 2 accessories are still up for grabs at one or two retailers at a minimum, but stock has become spottier since they first went up for *****. Upcoming Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, meanwhile, remain widely available.
Mario Kart World for $80
Donkey Kong Bananza for $70
Additional Switch 2 games
Samsung microSD Express Card (256GB) for Nintendo Switch 2 for $60
Joy-**** 2 bundle for $95
Switch 2 Pro Controller for $85
Switch 2 Camera for $55
Hori Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera for $60
Joy-**** 2 Charging Grip for $40
Joy-**** 2 Wheels (set of 2) for $25
Switch 2 All-in-One Carrying Case for $85
Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector for $40
*As of 1:15pm ET on Friday, May 9, Amazon has not listed any first-party Switch 2 accessories or games for *****. (Some third-party devices and games are listed, however.) We’ll update this article with direct links if they arrive; until then, we’re linking to the site’s Nintendo-focused hub.
More Switch 2 details
The Nintendo Switch 2.
We knew from its initial teaser trailer that the Switch 2 would be ******* than its predecessor and take a new approach to its detachable Joy-Cons. The Joy-**** 2s, as they’re called, now attach magnetically and include a C button, mouse controls and a built-in gyroscope for tilt control. The console itself is indeed larger, with a 7.9-inch LCD screen that supports a 1080p resolution, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and HDR10. The hardware also has a built-in mic to support a new feature called GameChat that’ll let you communicate with friends in-game. (This is what that C button is for.) Nintendo says this service will be free to all Switch 2 users until March 31, 2026, at which point it’ll require a Switch Online membership.
When docked, you’ll be able to play up to 4K on your TV. Nintendo says it’s improved the consoles internal speakers as well. The updated dock has a built-in fan to keep the console cool and help maintain performance during long play sessions. Though we won’t know exactly how much of a power upgrade the Switch 2 is over to the first Switch until it’s released, it looks to be fairly significant leap, given that it’ll have ports of relatively demanding games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.
Elsewhere, the Switch 2 has dual USB-C ports for charging, while the internal storage amount has jumped from 32GB to 256GB. That storage is still expandable, but the device will only work with newer (and more expensive) microSD Express cards. As seen in the recent 20.0.0 update for the original Switch, the upcoming console will also utilize Nintendo’s new Virtual Game Card system for lending digital games across systems, as well as a GameShare feature that lets you share select titles locally with just one copy of a game.
Tariffs and the Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-**** 2 controllers.
During its most recent Direct presentation at the start of April, Nintendo showed off more of the Switch 2 than it ever had before. That included the reveal of its original April 9 pre-order date, in addition to its $450 starting price. Shortly after, President Trump announced sweeping tariffs on China and other countries, prompting Nintendo to delay pre-orders in the US and Canada.
In a reversal, President Trump later announced a 90-day pause on steep tariffs affecting 75 countries, but also announced that the tariff imposed on China will go up even further (right now, it sits at 145 percent).
We now know that the original $450 price for the Switch 2 will remain the same in the US and Canada, but based on its official statement, it appears Nintendo is leaving the door open for potential future price increases.
We also know that Nintendo started moving some of its Switch console manufacturing to Vietnam in 2019. The increased tariff for Vietnam was set to be 46 percent, but that’s temporarily on hold in favor of a 10 percent tariff that’s in effect for the 90-day pause *******.
It has been speculated that Nintendo will boost production of Switch 2 consoles in Vietnam so it can stay on schedule, even if it sells the console at a loss in the short term. It appears the company will have to seriously ramp up production to keep up with Switch 2 demand: According to Nintendo, 2.2 million people entered the pre-order lottery in Japan alone, which is far more devices than it is expected to deliver in that region on launch day. In total, the company projects it will sell 15 million Switch 2 units through March 2026.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said no meeting of the National Command Authority, the top military and civil body overseeing the country’s nuclear arsenal, had been scheduled following a military operation against India that took place early on Saturday.
“No meeting has happened of the National Command Authority, nor is any such meeting scheduled,” he told ARY TV.
Pakistan’s military said earlier that the prime minister had called on the authority to meet.
Pakistan’s information minister did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
Separately, Pakistan’s foreign minister told local TV that if India stops here then “we will consider to stop here”.
The comments came after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir and India’s foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, urging both sides to de-escalate and “re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation”.

Eli Lilly stock sell-off was ‘overreaction’: Analysts
Eli Lilly stock sell-off was ‘overreaction’: Analysts
Despite beating on its earnings Thursday, pharma giant Eli Lilly (LLY) suffered a nearly 12% loss in its stock, losing more than $90 billion in market cap in a single day.
The move, some analysts say, was an overreaction to the news that GLP-1 competitor Novo Nordisk (NVO) locked up a preferred listing deal with CVS (CVS) on its formulary for obesity drug Wegovy to the exclusion of Eli Lilly’s drug Zepbound.
“We think the market reaction was overdone and are thus reiterating our OP [Outperform] rating on LLY,” Leerink Partners analyst David Risinger wrote in a note to clients Friday.
Risinger also lowered Eli Lilly’s price target from $989 to $944 on the formulary news, calling it a negative in a note Thursday.
Read more about Eli LIlly’s stock moves and today’s market action.
The deal with CVS is the latest this week as Novo Nordisk pushes for more access points for Wegovy, which has been overtaken in weekly prescription fillings by Eli Lilly’s Zepbound, including deals with telehealth platforms like Hims & Hers (HIMS). It’s a key reason why Novo Nordisk’s stock is down more than 25% in the past two months.
“LLY is taking ~75% share on new branded obesity scripts,” Jefferies analyst Akash Tewari wrote in a note to clients Thursday. He questioned whether Novo Nordisk’s move was the right one.
This also sparked concern that Novo Nordisk’s moves could hamper Eli Lilly’s momentum — and launch a price war — which pressured Eli Lilly’s stock Thursday. Eli Lilly’s stock looked to be slightly reversing its losses in trading Friday, up more than 4% at market open.
“The move today reminds of what we say frequently: expect volatility, take advantage of moment of weakness, as long as there is not a new, fundamental crack in the story — no such cracks surfaced today, in our opinion,” BofA Securities analyst Tim Anderson wrote in a note to clients Thursday.
The overarching concern with the CVS/Novo Nordisk deal is whether this starts a race to the bottom on pricing between the two GLP-1 market leaders.
The stock action Thursday assumed the CVS move would drive down price, and therefore profits, for both companies in the GLP-1 market, driven by a “desperate” Novo Nordisk, BofA’s Anderson said.
Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks signaled he was not interested in such a race and instead is focusing on near-term wins with next-generation GLP-1s and the highly anticipated orforglipron, an obesity pill that could hit the markets mid-next year.
Story Continues
“We’re not interested in exclusive deals. We think innovation and choice is very important. And we’re well into the product replacement cycle, and there’s more coming,” Ricks told Yahoo Finance.
That sentiment was reflected in some analyst notes late Thursday.
Jefferies’ Tewari wrote in a note that Lilly still “has one of the most sustainable growth stories in the next 5-10 years.”
He expressed doubt that the impacted pool of patients would be significant and shrugged off the idea that this was the starting gun of a price war.
“We’re skeptical that NVO is making irrational pricing decisions & that a single formulary will lead to a race to the bottom on pricing,” he wrote.
JPMorgan’s Chris Schott similarly wrote, “We do not see the CVS announcement as portending an acceleration in price declines across the space,” and he does not see this as “leading to a price war.”
BofA’s Anderson had a slightly different take.
“It’s not to say that there’s not going to be erosion in price, I mean there is, each and every year. This is not a sudden step-change. I think it’s being taken out of proportion,” he said.
The Eli Lilly company logo is seen displayed on a smartphone screen. (Piotr Swat/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images) · SOPA Images via Getty Images
But time will tell if the move is a desperate one on the part of either CVS or Novo Nordisk, with broader impacts, or one that doesn’t move the needle at all.
“I do think Novo, they are trying to prove to their shareholders that they’re going to see inflection of their franchise and return to growth later in the year. That’s why they signed that Hims deal, that’s why they can talk about the CVS deal. I think this is free advertising for CVS and Novo,” BofA’s Anderson said.
“I think Novo is trying to convey … there’s always negotiations with payers, but they’re not out there undermining a market. And that’s how Lilly’s stock is reacting,” he said, adding CVS may have been overstating the impact of the formulary decision on the call.
Most analysts said the impact on Eli Lilly should be limited and that a key indicator would be employer-sponsored insurance plans and how they react to the formulary option.
“It remains to be seen how attractive this change will be to employers given differences in product profiles while patients could also look to go through exemption processes to keep their prescriptions,” Schott wrote.
He added, “LLY noted that the change primarily impacts smaller employers, who likely have lower employer opt-in rates on average (while larger employers largely utilize more customized formularies).”
StockStory aims to help individual investors beat the market.

Owners of once-iconic Kansas City shop have died, leaving historic spot in limbo
Owners of once-iconic Kansas City shop have died, leaving historic spot in limbo
Peer through the windows at 4303 Jefferson St., and there’s a shop full of inventory: bags of incense, futons, dream-catchers, candles, handmade jewelry.
But Temple Slug, once a destination of alternative home décor and an accidental landmark of counterculture retail in Kansas City, has been closed to the public since the early days of the pandemic. Answers to questions about its future have been hard to come by.
The uncertainty deepened this spring, when founder and longtime owner Bob Gamer died at the age of 86. His stepson, Keith Buchanan, who managed the shop in its later years, died two days later.
It is presumed that the business and property were left to May Lin Gamer, Bob’s wife and Buchanan’s mother. The Star was unable to reach May Lin. But friends and former Temple Slug employees said she lives in a retirement home, and the property south of Westport is now being managed by a trust.
Carol Hillman, a close friend of Buchanan’s, said that because he had no siblings or children, she and a few other friends and neighbors stepped up to help with proceedings following his death — writing the two men’s obituaries and organizing upcoming celebrations of life. But she’s in the dark as to the future of the place.
“Nobody outside the family or the trust company really knows what’s going on (with Temple Slug),” Hillman said. “We’ve heard from a lot of people with fond memories of the shop, and who are interested in turning it into something that honors the history of the neighborhood. I know a lot of people are curious about its future. But a lot of us are in that same boat, too.”
Among those that would like to see the building preserved are the members of the Steptoe Lives Coalition. The group is attempting to keep intact what is left of the Steptoe neighborhood, a historically ****** community located south of Westport, between Summit and Wornall from 43rd to 44th Streets. Many of the homes and structures in the area have been demolished in recent years to make way for new apartments and the expansion of nearby St. Luke’s Health Center.
“I grew up in an original house in that neighborhood and spent a lot of time as a kid at Temple Slug,” said Leah Suttington, a member of the group. “The area was a beautiful crossroads of the white and ****** communities in Kansas City. It’s a special part of Westport history. It’d be nice to preserve (Temple Slug) as some kind of tribute to that, instead of just tearing it down to make room for more apartments.”
Suttington said she’d heard that the Temple Slug building as well as several other houses Gamer owned to the east on 43rd Street were going up for ***** soon. But she couldn’t confirm where she’d heard that, and the properties are not listed for ***** on any real estate sites.
According to Jackson County property records, those buildings are still owned by Gamer’s company Jefferson Associates Inc. But that business was administratively dissolved by the state of Missouri in 2022 for failing to file a registration report.
Deitra Nealy-Shane, who also grew up in Steptoe and is a member of the nearby St. James Missionary ******** Church, said she is concerned about what will happen to that block now that Gamer is gone.
“Bob had been on the board of the Plaza/Westport Neighborhood Association and was always very committed to preserving affordable, single-family homes in Steptoe,” Nealy-Shane said. “There’s often tension between business owners and residents in a neighborhood, but Bob was always a champion for Steptoe — for keeping that history alive.”
A Westport counterculture legacy
Temple Slug was never just a shop. It began its life on April Fools’ Day 1970, when Gamer, a UMKC political science professor returning from a four-year stint in Singapore filled a former grocery store in Westport with Indian textiles, dried flowers, strobe-light candles and a lot of incense.
“They had all these wonderful things in Asia, and Vietnam veterans were bringing them back home,” Gamer told The Star in 1995. “I wanted to introduce these things to Kansas City.”
It soon morphed into a head shop, selling bongs, rolling papers and lava lamps. As the sign outside Temple Slug still notes, the shop was also one of the first in the country to carry waterbeds — a profitable niche in the 1970s. Temple Slug became a hub for Westport’s budding alternative scene.
“It was a center for artists and liberal thought, a gathering place,” recalled Michael Felix, who worked at Temple Slug for 12 years starting in the early 1990s.
“The magic of the Slug was all about Bob,” said Apryl Murray, who managed the shop in the mid-1990s. “He treated every single person who came in as an old friend and taught me to do the same. It was never about the hard sell — it was all about the person and making everyone feel comfortable.”
Merchandise evolved with the times. When the futon craze of the 1990s hit, Temple Slug was already there.
“We were on the cutting edge of that,” Felix said. “This was before IKEA, and the knock-down furniture trend was really hot. We sold a lot of futons to kids and young professionals in the city.”
Buchanan, a trained industrial designer and adjunct at the Kansas City Art Institute, took over the shop in its later years, adding a tea shop next door in 2010.
“Keith had his hands full taking care of Bob and May and everything else,” said Murray.
COVID shut Temple Slug down in 2020. Hillman said Buchanan continued to fulfill online orders for a year.
“But then it just petered out entirely,” she said. “It’s been sort of like a mausoleum in there ever since.”
Bob’s death was not unexpected — he’d been managing Parkinson’s for a while, Murray said. “But Keith was a surprise, though maybe not in retrospect, considering everything he had been trying to manage for so very long.”
Hillman said she is encouraging friends, neighbors and former Slug employees to attend a celebration of life that’s been organized for Bob at Simpson House (4509 Walnut St.) on June 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Another for Buchanan will be held the week of June 27 at Conroy’s Public House in Westwood (4730 Rainbow Blvd.).

Another Coast food truck fails health inspection with bugs, rodents or animals present
Another Coast food truck fails health inspection with bugs, rodents or animals present
Few food trucks failed their health inspections in South Mississippi over the past year, and now two scored a C within a month.
Two Gulfport restaurants also got a failing grade in the past two weeks.
Tortilleria Morelos mobile unit, 1982 E. Pass Road. Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 30. The food truck was cited for:
Adequate hand washing facilities not supplied and accessible
Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
Insects, rodents or animals present
Hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure
A corrective follow-up inspection on May 1 showed the violations were corrected and the food truck was given a B.
This was the first C. The other three inspections since September 2023 were As.
Hibachi Express, 9354 U.S. 49, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 24. It was cited for:
Last inspection grade not posted, a repeat offense
Corrected during the inspection were:
Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use
Food separated and protected
Proper cold holding temperatures
Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used
During a corrective follow-up inspection on April 30, the latest inspection report was posted and the restaurant was given a B.
This is the fourth C dating back to 2011. The previous C was in 2021.
Mizu at 11515 U.S. 49 in Gulfport was inspected May 7 for a permit renewal.
It was cited for:
No certified manager
Food not separated and protected, a repeat offense.
This is the third C since November 2023. Prior to that, all inspection grades dating back to 2016 were As and Bs.
Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi receive the following health inspection grades:
A: if they pass the health department inspection
B: if all violations are corrected during the inspection
C: if the violations are critical.
Most restaurants in South Mississippi pass without any violations. Since April 23, the health department gave 154 As to restaurants in South Mississippi and 24 Bs.

Lowe double puts Victory on a high and into grand final
Lowe double puts Victory on a high and into grand final
Melbourne Victory have powered their way into the A-League Women grand final after cruising past Adelaide 3-1 on the day and 6-2 on aggregate in their two-leg semi-final series.
Victory entered Saturday’s second leg already holding all the cards after snaring a 3-1 win over Adelaide on enemy territory last week
Buoyed on by their adoring fans at the Home of the Matildas in Bundoora on Saturday, Victory sealed the deal with another 3-1 win courtesy of a Rachel Lowe double and Sara D’Appolonia’s second-half strike.
Adelaide scored a consolation goal in the dying seconds via Isabel Hodgson.
Victory, who have now won their past 10 matches in a 15-game unbeaten run, will meet either Central Coast or Melbourne City in the grand final.
The Mariners and City drew 2-2 in Gosford last week, with Sunday’s second-leg clash in Melbourne to decide who progresses.
Adelaide needed to strike early on Saturday in order to give themselves a genuine chance.
Instead, it was Victory who struck in the 11th minute to all but put the tie to bed.
Alana Jancevski’s bullet free kick was palmed down by Adelaide goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins, only for Victory striker Lowe to chest down the ball and tuck it away from close range.
Adelaide midfielder Dylan Holmes had the perfect chance to level things up in the 31st minute when she raced into the box, but she was unbalanced and fired her shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Victory’s defence endured a few more nervy moments as Adelaide increased their urgency, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the half-time break.
Adelaide’s desperation continued in the second half, but it was the Victory who struck gold in the 61st minute following a nice cut back pass from Nickoletta Flannery.
D’Appolonia controlled the ball with her right foot before unleashing the shot off her left to score from the edge of the box.
Lowe put the icing on the cake when she latched on to Holly Furphy’s pass across goal to tap in for the easiest of goals in the 78th minute.
Victory captain Kayla Morrison was thrilled with the win.
“We tried to convince ourselves we were starting fresh and it was an elimination final, so it was a 0-0 game and we couldn’t sit back and hope,” Morrison said.
“We had to go forward and put away the chances when we could.
“It was a big effort defensively.
“Frustrating to let one in right at the end, it would have been great to seal a clean sheet, but we’ll take it.”

Lawyers for man executed by firing squad in South Carolina say bullets mostly missed his heart
Lawyers for man executed by firing squad in South Carolina say bullets mostly missed his heart
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A man who was put to death last month in South Carolina’s second firing squad execution was conscious and likely suffered in extreme pain for as long as a minute after the bullets, meant to quickly stop his heart, struck him lower than expected, according to a pathologist hired by his attorneys.
The lawyers called it a botched execution because they think either the volunteer prison employees who all had live ammunition missed or the target was not placed properly.
An autopsy photo of Mikal Mahdi’s torso showed only two distinct wounds at the April 11 execution, according to the pathologist’s report, which was filed Thursday with a letter to the state Supreme Court.
Mahdi chose to be executed by firing squad over lethal injection or electrocution in the killing of an off-duty police officer in 2004.
All three guns fired simultaneously and prison officials believe all three bullets hit Mahdi with two of them entering his body at the same spot and following the same path, Corrections Department spokeswoman Chrysti Shane said Thursday. That has happened before when the firing squad team practices its job to fire at the inmate from 15 feet (4.6 meters) away.
A pathologist hired by attorneys for condemned inmates said there isn’t enough independent evidence from the autopsy — where only one photo of the body was taken and Mahdi’s clothes weren’t examined — to make that conclusion.
“The shooters missed the intended target area and the evidence indicates that he was struck by only two bullets, not the prescribed three. Consequently, the nature of the internal injuries from the gunshot wounds resulted in a more prolonged death process,” Dr. Jonathan Arden said.
Arden said that likely meant Mahdi took 30 to 60 seconds to lose consciousness — two to four times longer than the 15 seconds that experts including Arden and ones hired by the state predicted for a properly conducted firing squad execution.
During that time Mahdi would have suffered excruciating pain as his lungs tried to expand and move into a broken sternum and ribs, as well as from “air hunger” as the damaged lungs struggled and failed to bring in needed oxygen, Arden said.
“Mr. Mahdi elected the firing squad, and this Court sanctioned it, based on the assumption that SCDC could be entrusted to carry out its straightforward steps: locating the heart; placing a target over it; and hitting that target. That confidence was clearly misplaced,” Mahdi’s attorneys wrote in the letter to the South Carolina Supreme Court.
Witnesses heard him cry out as shots were fired
Witnesses to the execution heard Mahdi cry out as the shots were fired, groan again some 45 seconds later and let out one last low moan just before he appeared to draw his final breath at 75 seconds.
Mahdi, 42, was executed after admitting he killed Orangeburg Public Safety officer James Myers in 2004, shooting him at least eight times before burning his body. Myers’ wife found him in the couple’s Calhoun County shed, which had been the backdrop to their wedding 15 months earlier.
The official autopsy did not include X-rays to allow the results to be independently verified; only one photo was taken of Mahdi’s body, and no close-ups of the wounds; and his clothing was not examined to determine where the target was placed and how it aligned with the damage the bullets caused to his shirt, Arden said in a report summarizing his findings.
“I noticed where the target was placed on Mikal’s torso, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m certainly not an expert in human anatomy, but it appears to me that target looks low,’” said David Weiss, an attorney for Mahdi who was also a witness at his death.
A prison worker performs a chest X-ray on an inmate and a medical professional uses a stethoscope to place the target over the heart, Shain said.
Official autopsy report called into question
In the official autopsy report, pathologist Dr. Bradley Marcus wrote that the reason there were only two wounds is that one was caused by two bullets entering the body at the same spot.
Arden called that virtually unheard of in his 40 years of examining dead bodies and said Marcus told him in a conversation that the possibility was remote.
The autopsy found damage in only one of the four chambers of Mahdi’s heart — the right ventricle. There was extensive damage to his liver and pancreas as the bullets continued down.
“The entrance wounds were at the lowest area of the chest, just above the border with the abdomen, which is an area not largely overlying the heart,” Arden wrote.
In their conversation Marcus also said the severe amount of liver damage was not anticipated and he “expected the entrance wounds to be higher on the chest,” Arden wrote in his report.
Marcus declined to talk about the autopsy when reached by phone Thursday morning.
Autopsy on first man killed by firing squad showed obliterated heart
In contrast the autopsy on Brad Sigmon, the first man killed by firing squad in the state, showed three distinct bullet wounds and his heart was obliterated, Arden said. He added that the autopsy report in that case included X-rays, adequate photos and a cursory examination of his clothes.
Without X-rays or other internal scans to follow the path of the bullets through Mahdi’s body, no additional light could be shed on the two-bullets-through-one-hole claim, Arden said.
Weiss said he was stunned that so little was done in the autopsy even after the pathologist saw only two holes in his chest. The apparent errors in how the execution was carried out are a major problem, he asserted.
“I think that raises incredibly difficult questions about the type of training and oversight that is going into this process,” Weiss said.
“It was obvious to me as a lay person upon reading his autopsy report that something went wrong here. We should want to figure out what it was that went wrong when you’ve got state government carrying out the most serious, most grave possible type of function,” Weiss said.
Mahdi’s body was cremated preventing a second autopsy, Weiss said.
South Carolina allows condemned inmates to chose method of death
South Carolina allows condemned inmates to choose whether to die by lethal injection, electric chair or firing squad. Three in the past year have chosen lethal injection, but the past two opted for the firing squad, saying they feared the other methods — autopsies have shown that lethal injection causes a rush of fluid into the lungs, and burns have been found on bodies after electrocutions.
“The purpose of South Carolina’s choice provisions is to guarantee ‘that a condemned inmate in South Carolina will never be subjected to execution by a method he contends is more inhumane than another method that is available,’” Mahdi’s lawyers wrote, quoting the state Supreme Court’s decision to allow executions. “An understanding of how this botch occurred is essential for that choice to have any meaning at all.”
Twenty-six people remain on South Carolina’s death row. Stephen Stanko, who has two death sentences for murders in Horry County and Georgetown County, has run out of appeals and likely will be scheduled to die in June.

Foreclosure auction for Farmers Exchange in Kennewick didn’t go as planned. The latest
Foreclosure auction for Farmers Exchange in Kennewick didn’t go as planned. The latest
The future of Kennewick’s vacant Farmers Exchange complex is uncertain after a foreclosure auction set for Friday was postponed.
The property is now set to be sold to the highest bidder at 10 a.m., May 23, at the entrance to the Benton County Justice Center, 7122 W. Okanogan Place, in Kennewick.
A process server who announced the delay told the small crowed that gathered for the ***** no reason would be given for the delay.
Farmers Exchange closed in 2024 and is being auctioned after the owners defaulted on a loan from Banner Bank.
Mark Almquist of Pronto Process Service announces the postponement of the public auction for the Farmers Exchange properties in downtown Kennewick Friday morning at the Benton County Justice Center in Kennewick.
A small crowd gathered at the original auction time to find out who might be interested in the collection of historic and industrial buildings at West Canal Drive and North Benton Street.
Something special
Stephanie Button, executive director of the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership, said she’s worked for months to find a buyer who can bring activity back to the prominent site in the heart of Kennewick’s Central Business District.
The property offers nearly a full city block, quirky buildings packed with charm, historic significance and three-phase power, she said. It could be reinvented as a retail center, hospitality destination or even industrial arts studio for wood- and metal workers.
Stephanie Button, executive director of the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership, said she’s worked to find a buyer who can bring activity back to a prominent location in the heart of Kennewick’s Central Business District.
Button said she’s even reached out to McMenamins, the Portland venue operator known for converting old schools, fraternal lodges and institutional buildings into hotels, restaurants and visitor destinations.
The May 9 foreclosure auction of downtown Kennewick’s vacant Farmers Exchange complex was rescheduled without explanation.
She hasn’t connected, but believes Farmers Exchange could tempt McMenamins to expand into the Tri-Cities.
“We want to see something special,” she said outside the justice center. “We want to see it loved and honored and utilized.,”
After 110+ years historic Farmers Exchange site on foreclosure auction block
Storied history
The oldest building in the Farmers Exchange complex, at 215 W. Canal Drive, was added to the state and national Registers of Historic Places in April.
The Washington State Advisory Council on Historic Preservation voted unanimously to add the 1912-built structure in honor of its significant role in the early development of Kennewick as a hub for agriculture.
The property’s storied history includes multiple uses, including a school, a creamery and a cannery. It has been identified with Farmers Exchange since 1924, when Alfred Amon and Carl Williams established the business.
A legal notice and a sign declaring the closure of the Farmers Exchange locations in downtown Kennewick are posted on one of the building’s door.
They sold it to Emerald Silliman in 1939 and through four generations of Silliman, Farmers Exchange was they place where Tri-Citians bought feed, lawnmowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, plants, garden supplies and, in the winter, fresh Christmas trees.
Banner Bank foreclosed on a loan totaling nearly $2.2 million after the owner failed to make payments. In April, it advertised that it would take nearly $364,000 to bring the account current.
Barring a private ***** before the May 23 auction, the auction will seek to find a buyer for the buildings at 35 and 18 North Benton, and at 215 and 205 W. Canal. The property includes seven distinct parcels.
The Seattle law firm of Hacker & Willig is serving as trustee for the property, according to a notice posted on the property.

Gunston delivers late as Hawks overpower Demons
Gunston delivers late as Hawks overpower Demons
Jack Gunston and Mabior Chol combined for five crucial final-quarter goals as Hawthorn strengthened their hold on an AFL top-four spot with a 25-point win over Melbourne.
Narrow leaders for most of the day, the Hawks stood up when it mattered most to secure a 13.13 (91) to 7.14 (56) triumph in front of 50,351 fans at the MCG on Saturday.
It was a victory more than seven years in the making, Hawthorn ending a run of nine matches against the Demons without a win.
Melbourne dominated contested possession and clearances, won the inside-50 count and had more scoring shots than their opponents through the opening three quarters.
But they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot with poor goal-kicking, and the Hawks made them pay in the final term.
Gunston finished with three goals, Chol and Nick Watson kicked two each, and James Worpel (28 disposals, 10 tackles, six clearances) was outstanding in the middle.
Hawks ruckman Lloyd Meek kicked the opening goal and his side held a slender lead for most of a dour first half.
Melbourne livewire Kysaiah Pickett (17 touches, nine tackles, two goals) was controversially denied a free kick when umpires failed to penalise Blake Hardwick for a blatant trip in the goal square.
Pickett kicked the next goal when a free kick was paid against Hardwick for a high tackle, and Christian Petracca (26 disposals) lifted in the middle in the second quarter.
But the wasteful Dees managed just 2.7 to 2.2 for the term, despite controlling contested possession and territory.
They trailed by one point at the main break and the same margin at the final change, having briefly pinched the lead in the third quarter.
Hawthorn kicked the first three majors of the final term to take control, but Pickett breathed life into the contest with a superb running goal.
He burnt off one opponent in the centre square and took two bounces before kicking truly.
Gunston’s third goal of the final quarter sealed the Hawks’ victory.
First-year star Harvey Langford shone for Melbourne with three goals from 22 disposals.

Federal Prosecutors Shock Court In Diddy’s Trial With Revelation About A Missing Key Witness
Federal Prosecutors Shock Court In Diddy’s Trial With Revelation About A Missing Key Witness
Federal prosecutors have revealed that one of the witnesses in Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ trial has gone missing.
The individual in question is referred to as “Victim 3” in the superseding federal indictment against Diddy.
“Victim 3” was added to the indictment based on charges of sex trafficking and transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
One Of The Key Witnesses In Diddy’s Sex Crimes Trial Is Missing
MEGA
Diddy’s sex crimes trial has taken an unexpected turn due to one of the three witnesses expected to testify for federal prosecutors.
According to the Daily Mail, federal prosecutors revealed in court today that they are unable to locate the witness, who is referred to in the indictment as “Victim 3.”
The witness in question is reportedly not residing in New York, where the trial is currently being held.
Not only have prosecutors had difficulty reaching her, but they have also been unable to contact her attorney.
They also claimed that they have doubts about the unnamed victim showing up in court, even if they are able to locate her.
Now, the disclosure has seemingly put a lid on the “very personal and explosive details” the witness was expected to make about the abuse she endured from Diddy.
Diddy’s attorney, Teny Geragos, has also applied pressure on the prosecution to make a decision, giving them until the end of the week, ahead of the opening statement on Monday.
What Are The Charges Against The Rapper?
MEGA
In his ongoing trial, Diddy is facing a racketeering conspiracy charge, two counts of sex trafficking, and two counts of transportation for the purpose of prostitution.
The charges relate to four accusers, including Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, who were allegedly unwilling participants in the rapper’s “freak offs.”
These “freak offs” have been described as sex- and drug-fueled parties where the rapper allegedly forced his victims to engage in ******* acts with male prostitutes. He is also said to have filmed these acts for his personal use, with some of the videos reportedly discovered during a raid on his residence.
Earlier this year, Diddy’s attorneys, Marc Agnifilo and Tony Geragos, contested the videos, claiming that the women featured were all willing participants.
“Contrary to what the government has led this Court and the public to believe, the so-called ‘Freak Offs’ were private ******* activity between fully consenting adults in a long-term relationship,” the attorneys argued, per ABC.
Jury Selection Expected To Be Finalized This Week
Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency/MEGA
On Friday, both the prosecutors and Diddy’s lawyer will meet in court to determine which 45 potential jurors will move on to the final selection.
The group of 45 was selected from a larger pool of 600 individuals who answered a series of questions to assess their suitability for the case.
These questions included topics such as domestic partner violence, their music and media preferences, and their hobbies.
Once the trial begins later this month, reaching a conclusion could take up to eight weeks or more.
Each court session will not be televised or live-streamed. However, members of the public will be allowed access to the courtroom.
Diddy Could Face Life In Prison If Found Guilty In His Federal Case
MEGA
If Diddy is found guilty of racketeering, he could face life in prison.
Meanwhile, a conviction for sex trafficking carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, while transporting individuals for prostitution could result in an additional sentence of up to 10 years.
Since the legal process began, Diddy has maintained his innocence while claiming that the federal prosecutors are simply targeting him in an attempt to bring down a ****** man.
The embattled rapper seems so determined to prove his innocence that he even rejected a plea deal, which would have likely spared him a prolonged sentence if found guilty of the charges against him.
New Report Reveals Diddy’s Alleged ‘Sex Slave’ Signed $5M NDA With Him
MEGA
Amid the ongoing drama surrounding Diddy’s trial, new evidence has surfaced that appears to support explosive claims made by former adult film star Jonathan Oddi.
Oddi previously alleged that he was held as a “sex slave” by the music mogul following his arrest in 2018 for opening fire at a Florida resort owned by President Donald Trump.
At the time, he told the police that he had signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in exchange for $5 million and alleged that Diddy was “scared” he would “expose” him.
The NDA in question was recently obtained by the Daily Mail and appears to bear Diddy’s signature, though it remains unclear whether the signature is authentic or forged.
Oddi’s former wife, Tonia Troutwine, has also come forward to confirm the existence of the NDA, adding that it was signed around the time of their separation in 2014.

How China helped Pakistan shoot down Indian fighter jets
How China helped Pakistan shoot down Indian fighter jets
At 4am on Wednesday, China’s ambassador to Pakistan hurried to the foreign ministry to celebrate an unprecedented military success.
Pakistan had reportedly shot down several Indian aircraft in the hours before using ******** J-10C fighter jets.
“Our jet fighters… shot down three Indian Rafales, three Rafales [that] are French,” Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s foreign minister, told parliament on Wednesday. “Ours were J-10C.”
The ******** delegation, roused from their sleep by the outbreak of conflict between two nuclear-armed nations, was thrilled with the success of the Pakistani defence, Mr Dar said.
“Being a friendly nation, they expressed great happiness.”
India has not officially responded to reports that it lost as many as five fighter jets. But the apparent involvement of ******** aircraft in shooting down a Rafale has ricocheted through defence circles – and sent stock in its maker, Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, surging by as much as 20 per cent.
The PL-15 missile, carried by the J-10C jets, has never been used in combat before
Until now, ******** weaponry had not been field-tested against Western-made systems like the Rafale. The Indian Air Force (IAF) operates a fleet of 36 Rafale F3Rs, the most advanced model of the aircraft.
A French intelligence source confirmed to CNN on Wednesday that at least one had been shot down, marking the first time a Rafale has been lost during combat.
In an official statement, China’s foreign ministry said it was “not familiar with the matter” when asked whether ******** jets were involved in the skirmish.
Later on Thursday evening, a US official told Reuters that there was “high confidence” a J-10C had shot down two Indian fighters, using air-to-air missiles.
That appeared to confirm the aircraft first known “kill”, having entered service in its earliest form in 2003. It has been described as a “4.5 generation fighter”, like the British Eurofighter Typhoons and almost at the level of fifth generation systems like the US-made F-35.
Hu Jixin, the former editor of the ******** state-owned Global Times, said the battle showed that “China’s level of military manufacturing has completely surpassed that of Russia and France”, adding that Taiwan should feel “even more scared”.
0905 PL-15E Specification
Defence analysts remain cautious of reading too much into the technological battle between the two systems. Pilot error, or the rules of engagement, could have contributed to the Indian Rafale’s demise.
But open-source intelligence analysts are poring over images of the wreckage of a ********-made PL-15 missile, broadcast on Indian television and shared on social media.
The missile, which is carried by the J-10C, has never been used in combat before. But its ability to fire at targets far beyond the visual range of pilots appears to fit with the outlines of the clash on Wednesday morning.
Neither Pakistani nor Indian aircraft crossed the border, engaging instead in a “stand-off” conflict at a distance of more than 100km at times. The wreckage of a Rafale was discovered near the city of Bathinda deep inside India, according to multiple open-source analysts.
Images of the wreckage of a ********-made PL-15 missile were broadcast on Indian television and shared on social media
China’s development of the PL-15 prompted the US military to invest in a missile specifically designed to outrange it.
The PL-15E, the version exported to the Pakistani armed forces, can travel up to 145km, somewhat less far than the domestic equivalent.
******** military observers have long viewed it as a “very capable missile”, said Fabian Hoffmann, a missile technology researcher and non-resident fellow of the Centre for European Policy Analysis.
“But obviously [if a hit is confirmed] this is now a very public demonstration of the prowess of ******** military aerospace technologies” that “carries outside the bubble”.
“This is another point of indication that, if there was a Taiwan conflict, you probably should not assume that ******** technology would fail at the same rate as Russia’s during the war in Ukraine.”
Fighter jets armed with PL-15 missiles reportedly used by Pakistan
On April 29, with cross-border tensions rising, Pakistan’s army published a YouTube video showcasing its military arsenal.
In the video, a ********-made JF-17 Block 3 fighter jet, less advanced than the J-10C, can be seen equipped with PL-15 missiles. The combination offers “potent punch”, a caption reads.
For pilots in the Pakistani Air Force, the PL-15 missile has several advantages. Once fired, it has a large rocket booster that briefly propels the projectile to above Mach 5, or hypersonic, speeds.
In the middle of its flight, it is guided to target by an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that can be held on the launch system or a separate vehicle. Close to the target, it switches on its own AESA radar, locks on, and homes in with deadly accuracy.
A dual-pulse motor means that, after the initial blast falls away, a second burst of speed can be generated within 10 or so kilometres from the target.
“Because they are very, very fast, they basically have what you call a ‘no-escape zone’,” Mr Hoffmann said.
The switch from the first radar system to the missile’s onboard version also allows the jet that launched it to turn away from the target and flee any counterfire.
“There’s survivability for the [launch] platform, but also lethality for the [missile] itself.”
When India and Pakistan clash, so do their military backers. In recent years, the two nations have rapidly diverged in terms of where they source their weaponry.
Now, Islamabad buys the vast majority of its arms from China. Some 82 per cent of imports between 2019 and 2023 came from its “iron brother”, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which tracks global arms flows.
Imports from the US, meanwhile, have collapsed.
At the same time, Delhi has stepped up arms purchases from Western allies and reduced its reliance on Russia. Since 2006, purchases from France, Israel and the US have surged. Imports from Moscow have fallen from 75 per cent of the total to 36 per cent, according to the SIPRI.
“The big advantage the Pakistanis have is that their primary weapon supplier is China,” said Dr Walter Ladwig, an associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, a London-based think tank.
“The Indian defence budget is ******* on paper, the modernisation budget is *******.”
But Beijing “delivers”. It has rapidly supplied Pakistan with armour, a jointly developed fighter jet (in the form of the JF-17 Block 3) and missile systems.
For various reasons, India’s main suppliers, Russia and France (who provide 36 per cent and 33 per cent of imports respectively) have been slower to fulfil their orders, said Dr Ladwig. India’s air force is “still operating these antiquated MiGs”, he added.
China’s foreign ministry has urged both sides to exercise restraint and avoid a full-scale war. But there will be some in Beijing hoping for further, explosive field tests.
