They’re going after everyone, and they’re doing it with infostealer malware. These small, sneaky programs are quietly stealing passwords, browser data and login tokens from everyday devices. A new report shows just how out of control the problem has become, with infostealer activity jumping 500% in just one year, harvesting more than 1.7 billion fresh credentials. In 2024, cybersecurity researchers at Fortinet observed a staggering surge in stolen login data being traded on the dark web. Over 1.7 billion credentials were harvested not from old breaches but through active infections on users’ devices. At the heart of this epidemic is a class of malware called infostealers, which are programs designed specifically to extract sensitive information like usernames, passwords, browser cookies, email logins, crypto wallets and session tokens. Unlike large-scale data breaches that target centralized databases, infostealers operate on individual machines. They don’t break into a company’s servers; they compromise the end user, often without the victim ever noticing. Read On The Fox News App These logs are then aggregated and sold by initial access brokers, intermediaries who sell compromised credentials and access tokens to other cybercriminal groups, including ransomware operators. The market has matured to the point where access to a corporate VPN, an admin dashboard or even a personal bank account can be purchased at scale, with verified functionality and region-specific pricing. Fortinet’s 2025 Global Threat Landscape Report identified a 500% increase in credential logs from infostealer infections over the past year. Among the most widespread and dangerous infostealers identified in the report are RedLine, Vidar and Raccoon. 200 Million Social Media Records Leaked In Major X Data Breach Infostealers are typically distributed through phishing emails, malicious browser extensions, fake software installers or cracked applications. Once installed on a device, they scan browser databases, autofill records, saved passwords and local files for any credential-related data. Many also look for digital wallets, FTP credentials and cloud service logins. Crucially, many infostealers also exfiltrate session tokens and authentication cookies, meaning that even users who rely on multifactor authentication are not entirely safe. With a stolen session token, an attacker can bypass multifactor authentication entirely and assume control of the session without ever needing to log in manually. Once collected, the data is uploaded to a command and control server. From there, it’s either used directly by attackers or bundled into logs and sold on forums. These logs can include everything from the victim’s IP address and geolocation to their browser fingerprint and full credential list, giving attackers everything they need to carry out further exploitation or impersonation. It was further alleged it was an aggravated breach of FA rules because it included a reference to gender reassignment. According to documents seen by the BBC, Vaughan was alleged to have said, “that’s a man”, “are you a man” and “don’t come here again”, or similar. Vaughan denied the charges, insisting that she did not intend to be offensive to her opponent or to challenge their chosen identity, but wanted to understand if the rules were being followed. However, after a hearing, the disciplinary commission upheld both charges, finding that by raising the issue with the referee, Vaughan had showed a “continual action which indicated more than a casual question of curiosity.” She was banned from all football for six matches, four of which were suspended for a ******* of one year, and was ordered to complete an online equality and diversity course. “I was really upset,” said Vaughan. “It got put on my record that I’d been accused of misconduct, and I didn’t want that to stay there, and I knew I wasn’t guilty so I appealed it.” In November, the matter was raised in parliament by former FA chairman Lord Triesman, who criticised the governing body’s handling of the case, saying Vaughan “seems to me to have been treated in a shabby way”, and her appeal was supported by campaign group the Free Speech Union. San Luis Ranch homeowners sue developer over home defects, mold San Luis Ranch homeowners sue developer over home defects, mold It took less than a month for building issues to present themselves in Jeannie and Matthew Pleasant’s new home in San Luis Ranch — and now, the couple is taking developer Coastal Community Builders to court for damages. After moving into their brand-new home in October 2021, the couple said defects started to become evident almost immediately. Their first written notice to Coastal Community Builders identified issues such as bowing walls, cracks in drywall, misaligned trim and water intrusion near door jambs, according to the Pleasants’ lawsuit. But that was only the tip of the iceberg of building issues that the Pleasants say have rendered their home uninhabitable — issues developer Coastal Community Builders have failed to address under the home’s warranty, the lawsuit alleged. The ongoing dispute over whether Coastal Community Builders is obligated to repair these issues culminated in the April 7 lawsuit against the developer, seeking relief for the home’s “structural instability, water intrusion, code violations, defective plumbing, toxic mold and health hazards.” “As a result of CCB’s substandard construction and repeated failure to remedy known defects, Plaintiffs have experienced severe disruption, out-of-pocket expenditures, health concerns related to mold and significant diminution in the value of their home,” the lawsuit said. San Luis Ranch development is well underway in this view overlooking Madonna Road from June 26, 2023, on what was previously farmland owned by Ernie Dalidio. What does San Luis Ranch lawsuit allege? According to the lawsuit, the Pleasants submitted more than a dozen separate written notices requesting repairs for building defects between late 2021 and April 2024. Coastal Community builders responded to some of these requests between late 2021 and late 2022, though the lawsuit claimed the subcontractors hired to make the repairs failed to address the underlying causes of problems such as improper structural framing, excessive soil settlement, and poor drainage. Other issues included a sagging balcony, leaking windows, a lack of drainage around the home and floors, and walls that were not plumb, according to the lawsuit. The Pleasants hired DJ Design to conduct an inspection in February 2024, which documented extensive structural and finish defects, to the tune of a $437,500 price tag for repairs, according to the lawsuit. A separate inspection the following month by a licensed mold remediation professional confirmed mold growth behind the bathroom and shower walls, which would cost around $45,000 to repair, the lawsuit said. According to the lawsuit, the Pleasants are seeking financial relief for damages, repair and investigative costs, lost home value, attorney fees, medical expenses caused by defects, relocation expenses and any punitive damages authorized under the law. Developer says warranties cover all homes, condos it constructs The Pleasants are not the only household in San Luis Ranch to launch lawsuits related to the condition of their new homes against Coastal Community Builders. In an email to The Tribune, Coastal Community Builders said one other legal claim was filed by a San Luis Ranch homeowner for similar reasons, but was resolved to the satisfaction of all parties by mutual agreement. Coastal Community Builders said its fit-and-finish warranty covers every home and condominium it constructs, covering any potential deficiencies in the products’ workmanship. “CCB has a policy not to comment directly on cases pending litigation,” the developer said in an email. “We can, however, confidently say that we take all credible allegations of construction defects seriously, and we diligently pursue repairs and remedies to rectify them when they occur.” Construction continues on the San Luis Ranch housing development off Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo, on April 16, 2024. Thanks to the community that adores the game for being different than regular shooters. To share this experience with more gamers, the shooter is going free-to-play to allow more people to enjoy. Additionally, it rebranded itself as Rainbow Six Siege X to mark the tenth anniversary. All of this sounds great on paper. Going free to allow more players to enjoy? Great! But here’s the problem. The major problem Counter-Strike faced was after going free-to-play. The hackers came in bulk to destroy everyone’s experience. Valve has tried many times to improve VAC anti-cheat, but it couldn’t stop it. Even after the release of Counter-Strike 2, the cheater problem didn’t go away. Ubisoft seems to be confident about R6 ShieldGuard anti-cheat, which has been developed in collaboration with BattleEye. It is true, Rainbow Six Siege is eliminating cheaters more nowadays. But once the game goes free, cheaters will likely drop into the game harder than before. So, are R6S developers ready for it? Moreover, after the release of Counter-Strike 2, many maps and game modes were removed on release. Due to a game engine change, Valve developers had to port everything, one at a time. Staunton is considering a new pool house, but that would not be built, at the earliest, until after this summer’s swim season is complete. City Manager Leslie Beauregard told Staunton City Council at its May 8 meeting that the design phase of that new construction is complete and it will go to bid May 19. “We’re anxious to see what those bids will say,” Beauregard said. That, however, is a future concern for city council. A more pressing problem is that the current pool house has some structural integrity issues that has forced the city to make changes for this season. Chris Tuttle, director of Staunton’s Parks and Recreation, provided an update on those changes to council. “There’s certain areas of the pool house we’re not going to be able to use this year,” Tuttle said. The rear staircase from the deck to the pool level is unusable this summer. So is the women’s restroom. And the patio directly in front of the rear staircase will be limited in its use. Staunton’s pool house will have some changes in order to open this summer. The hope is to replace it by the summer of 2026. Tuttle said that there is now more damage to the rear staircase than a year ago, with the concrete starting to deteriorate. That will be blocked off before pool opening. The city has come up with some solutions in order to open the pool on time, although Tuttle called it a “work in progress.” The former men’s restroom will now be the women’s restroom with some changing stalls relocated from the old women’s restroom to the new space. The handicap ramp will now be used to access the pool deck and signage will be installed to direct traffic flow. As far as additional restrooms, Tuttle said the city is looking into various options. One is to rent an ADA accessible multi-restroom trailer for this summer. Another option is what Tuttle called a “wedding porta-john” which is a more luxury portable restroom. Tuttle said the city thought they had a trailer unit ready to rent for $16,500 but they just found out that it is no longer available. Staff has continued to look for another trailer, but those are considerably more expensive, Tuttle said, with the cost ranging from $35,000 to $50,000 for the season. The other option, the “wedding porta-johns,” would cost the city approximately $14,000, Tuttle told council. “That may be the direction we’re going in,” he said. There will also be temporary handwashing and outdoor rinse stations installed at the pool. Those have been ordered, per Tuttle. US House passes bill on Trump’s Gulf of America US House passes bill on Trump’s Gulf of America WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill to formally change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, following President Donald Trump’s executive order, though the measure is unlikely to succeed in the Senate. The House voted 211-206 to change the name of the body of water that borders five southeastern U.S. states and a major swath of Mexico and flows into the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Enshrining the name Gulf of America, if also approved by the Senate, would make it more difficult for a future president to tinker with Trump’s executive order. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, where it normally takes a super-majority of at least 60 votes to advance legislation. The House bill is sponsored by firebrand Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a vocal Trump supporter. The water has been referred to as the Gulf of Mexico for more than 400 years and is internationally recognized as such. U.S. presidents have the power, however, to declare geographic names, which applies within federal government usage. You may have heard of — or indeed ridden — the Glacier Express, which revels in being (surely) the slowest express train in the world, taking eight hours to snake a sublime 290km alpine route between St Moritz and Zermatt. Credit: Steve McKenna Elsewhere in Switzerland, you have the GoldenPass, Gornergrat Railway, Bernina Express … OK, I’ll stop right here, because I could go on, such is the glut of scenic options to choose from. But did you know about the Centovalli Railway? Apologies if you do, but I didn’t think so. It has been around for a while — it celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023 — yet it’s remained low-key compared to the more hyped Swiss routes. One reason for this, perhaps, is its location, hidden in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland, which many foreign (especially ***********) tourists are blissfully unaware of. That’s a pity as this is a wonderful region to visit and a ride on the Centovalli Railway is among its myriad highlights. Credit: Steve McKenna Linking Locarno (Switzerland) with Domodossola (Italy), this cross-border service is a staggering feat of engineering, coursing 52km through the Centovallina — or the Vigezzina as the Italians call this ruggedly photogenic region, which translates to mean “100 valleys”. Traversing 83 bridges and viaducts and 31 tunnels, this narrow-gauge railway stops at almost 30 stations, most of them tiny and cute and springboards for rewarding hiking trails. Some have cable cars that thread up to the densely-wooded mountains, where incredible vistas, farm restaurants and wellness hubs await. I board the train in Locarno, a lovely town by Lake Maggiore that’s an endearing (and well-connected) base for my Ticinese travels. I spend most of the next two hours with my eyes or camera glued to my large (and squeaky clean) window as we bump by orchards and vineyards, boulder-strewn rivers, ravines and waterfalls. Sometimes I dash across the carriage to look out the other side (luckily the seats opposite me are vacant for much of this journey). You can follow the train’s progress in real time on the official app and also listen to an audio tour sharing the history of the railway and region. I’m joined for a portion of the journey by Katja Beretta, who represents Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi (FART), which manages the Swiss side of the railway, while the Italian section is overseen by the Societa Subalpina di Imprese Ferroviarie (SSIF). “In autumn — our Indian summer — when the colours change, this train is very busy. Credit: Massimo Pedrazzini It’s early spring, the bright, mild weather comes with colourful blooms and lofty peaks still drizzled in white powder. But every season, says Katja, brings its differing charms. Winter often has crisp blue skies with the snow-drenched scenery. By the Swiss summer, the snow has largely vanished but wildflowers thrive in the sun-splashed greenery. Not just a tourist train, Katja tells me this is a lifeline for some of these remote villages with local passengers regularly hopping on and off, greeting one another with expressions like “Ciao, bella!” New carriages are being rolled out on the line this year, making travel easier for those with wheelchairs and strollers. Credit: Steve McKenna Katja says goodbye (“ciao, ciao!”) at Camedo, a stop close to the Swiss-Italian border. This has historically been a hotspot for smugglers — including weapons and refugees in World War II — and is still technically subject to customs checks by officials. Despite Switzerland being part of the same Schengen travel zone as Italy, it’s not in the European Union and associated customs union. Turns out neither my passport nor my bags are checked at this border or at any point on my return journey. I do, however, experience several other pulse-raising moments — the scenery is truly spectacular at times — but by and large, this a pleasingly relaxing route to ride, especially as the train doesn’t exceed 60km/h. If you pressed me, my favourite bit is probably the approach from Locarno to Intragna, a village that rises from a rocky spur at the confluence of two rivers. Here the highest church belltower in Ticino grabs your attention along with an adjacent steel viaduct that’s perched 80m above a gorge. Two thirds of the railway is on the Italian side, including the highest portion — at Santa Maria Maggiore, something of an artists’ haven sitting 836m above sea level. Credit: Steve McKenna There’s another glimmer of excitement as we gradually descend almost 600m as Domodossola appears in the distance. In the Piedmont region of Italy, close to the dramatic Simplon (Sempione) Pass, it has a backdrop of craggy peaks and though its population is less than 20,000, it looks like a big city compared to most of the villages we’ve passed today. I’m ready to stretch my legs now before my return ride to Locarno later this afternoon. Spoiler alert: Domodossola is a charming place for a wander and a cappuccino and I’ll tell you about this gem of a town another day. ‘This is not a random glitch’ ‘This is not a random glitch’ Tesla may be in more hot water as drivers report inaccurate odometer readings. What’s happening? In the wake of a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer, FuelArc News explored whether accusations of odometer fraud — odometers allegedly exaggerating mileage so warranties would run out sooner — were overblown. The auto news source determined the accusations to be supported by at least nine drivers’ reports dating back to 2021 and that Tesla vehicles in these driver complaints allegedly “overstated mileage by an average of 36%.” That is a small sample size compared to the millions of Teslas on the road, and the data wasn’t rigorously collected by an independent third party, but the claims are notable given the lawsuit and overall run of bad news for Tesla in 2025, with protests and a profits drop of 71%. Influencer Tesla Pittsburgh (@NZCUTR on YouTube) also posted a video of his vehicle’s odometer skipping a mile in real time back in March 2024, though he said in the description that he believes it’s a glitch rather than a case of odometer fraud. FuelArc noted that drivers have been reporting this issue for years. The issue wasn’t limited to a single Tesla model, and the report found no evidence of odometers undercounting miles — only overcounting. “What we found here is clear enough. This is not a random glitch,” FuelArc stated. “It wasn’t a single vehicle or a one-off lemon. Tesla odometer complaints are scattered across years, models, and continents, and the pattern is not subtle: lots more miles added, no miles subtracted.” Why is this important? Odometer fraud — if proved true, which is far from the case as things stand — could be yet another reason why customers might shy away from purchasing Teslas. The adoption of electric vehicles is a crucial step in combating rising global temperatures and mitigating the effects of the changing climate. When they replace fuel-burning cars, EVs help cut carbon pollution and improve air quality, which reduces health issues related to air pollution.
