The future of Everywhere, the ambitious “platform that offers a world of endless possibilities”, is now in doubt following the inclusion of its creation suite in MindsEye. Build a Rocket Boy, the Edinburgh-based studio led by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, revealed the first details on Everywhere back in 2023, promising a new platform in which players can create their own combat and racing experiences and share them online with other players. Set in Utropia, the game makes use of a detailed creation suite called Arcadia, where players can use in-game tools make their own creations, from small individual assets to entire action stages with programmable enemy AI. Season 4 of Call of Duty: Warzone is set to implement some big changes to the free-to-play Battle Royale title, including one that will see players enter the Gulag with a single Armor Plate equipped. Age of Empires 2 has a new expansion, Tempest Rising is the effective return of classic Command and Conquer, and we've recently gotten Commandos Origins. I don't mean to get overexcited, but it's starting to feel like old-school RTS games are back. What's next? A sequel to Total Annihilation? A remake of War Wind? Z 3? One can dream. Put me in the camp of point and click aficionados who fiercely believe that 1993's Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers is one of the best adventure games to ever touch a PC. First in a trilogy of thriller mysteries, it featured writing that was a cut above Sierra On-Line's usual fare, puzzles that veered on the side of sensible investigations rather than moon logic, and a glorious bastard of a Cajun protagonist. The Kathy Rain series owes much to Gabriel Knight. Swap the '90s-era New Orleans author for a '90s-era biker chick/journalism student, replace the voodoo killings with a conspiracy involving the death of a grandparent, and you have the first Kathy Rain, which was released in 2016 and boasted the generic-but-still-memorable tagline: "A Detective is Born". But despite receiving fair praise from John back in the day, Kathy's first outing had a murky plot about cults, trauma, small town disappearances, and Elder Gods that was only made understandable via a spruced up Director's Cut in 2021. Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer, I'm happy to report, needs no such re-release, though anyone who hasn't completed the first game is bound to still be a little confused. Read more View the full article
A voice actor who featured in Persona 4 has let slip that a remake of the school days JRPG is in the works, mostly because he's frustrated the developers don't want him back to perform as his original character. Yuri Lowenthal, who played clumsy bicycle crasher Yosuke in the original 2008 game, expressed some revealing annoyance with developers Atlus in a post on social media that has since been deleted. Kaiyodo has announced a new wave of Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi action figures for characters from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater ahead of the game’s launch. Kaiyodo is a Japanese toy company producing merchandise from anime and other licenses, including Godzilla. Revoltech describes the unique Revolver Joint articulation in Revolver Technology, being a staple product line for the company, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater fans should expect premium figures to come from the manufacturer. Gearbox boss ****** Pitchford has once again spoken out about the controversy he recently stirred up over the price point for Borderlands 4. In late May, Pitchford chimed in on the growing discussion about video game prices jumping by a Hamilton or two. Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven Software has announced it will be removing Battle Royale Solos from the game with the beginning of Season 4 today. Funcom asked us to "let them cook," and going on last night's Dune: Awakening showcase, the developers did. With just a few days to go before early access players get their "head start," Funcom put on a livestream showing off Dune: Awakening's mid-to-endgame, and a wide tour of the Hagga Basin "to emphasize the size and variety players can expect," including the "lush O’odham, the forbidding Hagga Rift, the tall spires and imposing rock formations of Jabal Eifrit, to name just a few." Inspired by Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster films, Dune: Awakening lets players explore Arrakis in an open-world game for the first time ever. Up until now, even beta players have only seen around 25% of Hagga Basin, so the stream showcased "these huge and diverse landscapes" in all their glory. "Before even considering the vast dunes and dangers of the Deep Desert, players will experience a full-scale survival game," Funcom teased. "They will rise through the ranks of the Atreides or Harkonnen; build powerful strongholds; brave Imperial Testing Stations; craft advanced schematics; explore and harvest in a variety of vehicles, and much, much more." Furthermore, the "Landsraad feature allows anyone to contribute in the effort to impact their entire faction, whether they prefer PvE or PvP." Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set on the most dangerous planet in the universe. You'll learn to survive the desert by learning the ways of the Fremen, and expand your potential through combat, spice, building, and trade. It's set to release on June 10, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S after a three-week delay to fix issues identified during its beta testing. Players with an "early start," however, get to play five days early from June 5. "As a longtime fan of Dune, it also just feels so good to explore and learn more about a world that I’m quite fond of, and Funcom has clearly put a ton of effort into worldbuilding and lore, even despite taking quite a bit of creative liberty by placing Awakening within a parallel reality and canon than the books/movies," we wrote in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview. "There are little details that have a massive impact on gameplay. I won’t go into spoilers, but this kind of attention to detail touches just about every aspect of the world, including the factions and characters you meet along the way, which should be a treat for any fan of the setting."
