  1. Supermassive's Until Dawn is one of my all-time favorite horror games, despite my... jumpy... disposition. I also have an affinity for anything based in space. Imagine my excitement, then, when Supermassive announced Directive 8020, its latest cinematic, choice-driven horror title, this time set aboard a spaceship. At Summer Game Fest in LA, I was treated to a small slice of the game, and while I couldn't put some of its biggest innovations fully to the test, it's clear that it nails those intoxicating Supermassive fundamentals. 2. Road to Vostok has been on our radar for a while now. A survival FPS game reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov, Stalker 2, and *****, it places a heavy emphasis on realism to offer an experience that makes players truly feel as if they're trying to survive in a harsh, post-apocalyptic landscape. This applies to its weapons and gear, but also, as a detailed new update video from its lone creator shows, the geography and culture of Finland, too. Read the rest of the story... 4. Little Nightmares 3has announced a Little Nightmares Showcase that will be held on June 24. Initially revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2023, over two years after the release of Little Nightmares 2 in 2021, the original 2024 release window for Little Nightmares 3 didn't quite pan out as it was delayed to 2025. It's now been over a year without any official word since the delay. View the full article
  5. From the outside, Tempest Rising looks like a straightforward homage to Command and Conquer; the RTS equivalent of a boomer shooter. But Slipgate Ironworks has built a strategy game that goes beyond its influences - veteran fans of Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert can take heart from the Frank Klepacki soundtrack and clear nods to the GDI and Brotherhood of Nod, but Tempest Rising more than shines on its own terms. The campaign is fantastic. The visual style and unit mix are both great. Only the multiplayer has drawn any real criticism, owing to some restrictions on queuing and game modes. But now, there's a new Tempest Rising update which addresses even those concerns. Read the rest of the story... 6. There are a lot of Splinter Cell games, but the first may be the best of them. Though a bit rougher around the edges than sequels like Pandora Tomorrow, and lacking the fantastic soundtrack of Chaos Theory or higher fidelity of Blacklist, the 2002 original has a murky charm that makes its vision of shadowy international special operations stand out from what came after. While we continue to wait for Ubisoft's planned remake to come out, now's as good a time as any to return to the game or play it for the first time with the launch of an impressive new mod that serves as an unofficial remaster. 7. Ever since Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, I've been hungrily waiting for the chance to try it. It's the MMORPG that made me fall in love with the entire genre, so the prospect of playing it on the go is something I can wholeheartedly get behind. The bad news is FF14 Mobile is coming to China first, with the Western release on the way soon after. The good news, though, is that it finally launched in China, meaning we hopefully don't have long to wait. Read the rest of the story... 9. Baldur's Gate 3is renowned for its fantastic story, with an incredible cast of characters and hundreds of ways to approach different tasks throughout quests. A lot of content had to be cut during its time in development, such as the Upper City and Avernus as an explorable area, but it's hard to imagine that the game could have looked drastically different. It's odd even seeing the content from the game's early-access stage that was later changed. View the full article
  10. Crytek had a little bit of an oopsie yesterday with the Hunt: Showdown 1896's 2.4 update yesterday. As soon as it arrived, there were reports of server problems and issues with buying Blood Bonds. This led to Crytek trying to fix it, taking the game's servers offline to do so, except when the shooter was brought back online, it wasn't with a fixed version of the new update, but version 2.3. However! It looks like the team continued work on getting it fixed (hope you didn't have to crunch too hard, Crytek staff), and the update is back and available to download. 11. Dead by Daylight is one of the best games of its kind on the market. However, since it's 2025, there are bound to be many issues and bugs in any game, DBD included. One such issue is related to the audio, where players will spawn with muffled sound and be unable to make out just about anything except the chase music, which just adds to the tension. This is a known problem that's been in the game for years now, but there are a few things you might try to get rid of it ASAP. If you got smoke bombed as a killer, try to get bombed again Yes, seriously. Getting smoke bombed as a killer in DBD muffles your sound by default, but a bug exists in the game that prevents the muffled sound from fading away with time. The seemingly only way to fix this that doesn't include leaving the match altogether is to get smoke bombed again. Players have reported that once they glitched out after the initial bomb, a second one fixed the issue. The only problem here is that you cannot really force a Survivor to use a smoke bomb on you, so it's pretty much a dice roll. Also, some players indicate that the muffled sound carries over between matches, which could lead to your switching to a Survivor and still having the issue instigated by the smoke bomb, which in turn can only be fixed by the following method. Quit the game and verify files DBD's 2v8 mode has special items and perks that Survivors can use against killers, and they could potentially be what's causing the audio issues. Image via Behaviour Interactive First and foremost, you should quit the game entirely and make sure none of its processes are running in the background via the Task Manager. Then, simply boot it up again. If the issue persists, leave again and use your platform's file verification to ensure everything is in working order. Sometimes files can corrupt inexplicably, or as a result of a major update or patch, and the file verification should re-download those needed to fix any underlying problem. However, if even this doesn't work, you should try reinstalling the game by first removing all its files and downloading everything again. Conflicts and corruptions can be tough to spot for these automated systems at times, so this could prove a more permanent solution to your woes. If your muffled sound applies to stuff outside of DBD, check your drivers Just as game files can be corrupted, so can drivers. These software solutions are necessary for your hardware (i.e., your motherboard's sound card) to work properly, and if they get mucked up, so will your audio. If it isn't only DBD that you're suffering the issue in, make sure your drivers are up-to-date and in working order. To make sure you're downloading the right drivers, refer to your motherboard manufacturer's website, as they almost always contain all the relevant software in one place, including audio drivers. 12. For a limited time, Amazon is offering the lowest price I've ever seen on one of the best Windows-based gaming handhelds. Right now you can pick up a Lenovo Legion Go with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU and 512GB of storage for only $499.99 shipped after a 30% off instant discount. The Legion Go boasts a larger and sharper display, detachable controllers, and a larger battery compared to the Asus ROG Ally. And now that Valve has made SteamOS widely available, you can install it and turn this device basically into a super-powered Steam Deck. 30% Off Lenovo Legion Go 512GB Gaming Handheld The Lenovo Legion Go is a Windows-based gaming handheld that's powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU with Radeon graphics and 16GB RAM, which is the same configuration as the one found in the $700 Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme or ROG Ally X. The Legion Go also boasts a a ******* and sharper 8.8" 2560x1600 144Hz IPS touchscreen display and detachable controllers like the Nintendo Switch. Since the Legion Go operates off Windows 11, it works with most PC game clients, including Steam, Origin, Ubisoft, Epic Games, Genshin Impact, Battle.net, and more. In Jacqueline Thomas' Lenovo Legion Go review, she wrote that "it is easily the best handheld gaming PC on the market right now as measured by screen size, horsepower, and USB-C port placement, but there are some caveats. It's absolutely massive, and the 1600p display is more than even this powerhouse chip can handle. That means you're going to have to spend some time tinkering with – and specifically lowering – quality settings to get your games running properly. Even then the battery life isn’t great, and naturally you’re paying a premium over the Steam Deck OLED for the ******* display, a full Windows 11 license, and extra oomph. But if you love the idea of the Switch, where you can remove the controllers, prop the screen up on a beefy kickstand, and sit back and enjoy? This is the one for you." After the article was written, the Asus ROG Ally X was released and competes with the Legion Go for the title of "best gaming handheld". However, the Ally X is much more expensive: right now it sits at $899.99 on Best Buy, or $400 more than the Legion Go. The Legion Go is definitely a much better value for the price. If you end up getting this deal, we'd recommend picking up a portable power bank for extended travels and a Micro SD card. We've compared the Steam Deck to the ROG Ally and although the Legion Go isn't mentioned, the article gives you a good idea of the major differences between a Steam-based and Windows-based gaming handheld. 13. Running Borderlands 4 on PC will require an 8-core processor and a graphics card with at least 8 to 12 GB of video memory, according to the game's system requirements. However, given that less than half of Steam's user base uses an 8-core CPU, the steep requirements for Borderlands 4 will leave out some potential players unless they upgrade. View the full article

Space strategy game Stellaris has received another update jam-packed with the kind of systemic adjustments that, were you to shout them through your bedroom door at your mum, would cause her to smile shakily, then go downstairs and **** into a tea towel at the knowledge that her treasured child, her brightest and best, will never amount to anything useful, for they are too busy obsessing over ringworlds and genesis arks and xeno-compatibility.
