I've got a lot of love for the likes of No Man's Sky and Space Engineers, but Astroneer strikes the perfect balance of space exploration and excavation that gets my neurons firing just right. It's one of the best sandbox games I've played, and I was overjoyed to see developer SES returning to it to craft new experiences. Ultimately, the more standalone format of Glitchwalkers wasn't really what I was looking for, but the new Astroneer Megatech DLC appears to be right up my interstellar alley, and it lands in November. There are few video game series as iconic to Western audiences as Mortal Kombat. For a ******* of a few glorious years in the early ’90s, Midway’s fighting series was the coolest thing imaginable – a viable contender to Street Fighter, but one your parents didn’t want you to play. From its legendary TV ad with the kids screaming “MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAT” in the streets, to the cult favourite movie and its legendary title theme, early era Mortal Kombat was an obsession for a generation of players, myself included. Few MtG cards provide as much utility and card advantage as The One Ring, an artifact that first stalls out your opponent by giving you protection from everything for a turn, then turns your life total into an ever escalating card draw engine. It's good enough to see play in powerhouse Legacy and Vintage decks, and makes nearly any Commander deck better. Combine all that with a mythic rarity and it's unsurprising that the most basic version of the card trades hands for $89, leaving many players searching for budget alternatives for their brews - cards like Insight Engine. I love Halloween. Pumpkin spice lattes, dimly lit rooms, the odd horror movie - sure, it's cold outside, but there's an innate sense of magic in the air. What I don't love, however, are Halloween events in videogames. Every year the best multiplayer games drop new skins and cosmetics, and every year they lock the best ones behind a paywall. Want that cute witch hat? $5. Fancy the full look instead? Make it $20. I don't want to pay $20 for my little witch outfit, though; I'm sick of it. That's where Fellowship comes in. It's been an odd few years for Riot Games. As League of Legends' microtransaction systems have grown more invasive, 2XKO launched in early access to a somewhat muted response, and players consistently make allegations about AI use in official trailers and art, it feels like the company is struggling to find its feet. For a lot of longtime fans, that instability began with the shuttering of Riot Forge and the gutting of Legends of Runetera, the LoL-adjacent card game that once attempted to compete with the likes of Hearthstone. While its player count was apparently relatively low, it was much-beloved by its fanbase, and the switch across to PvE didn't exactly go down well. When Riot announced that it was creating Riftbound, a physical TCG that it hopes will rival Magic: The Gathering, a lot of LoR fans were left out in the cold: LoR died for this? Speaking to PCGamesN, I asked design manager Jonathan Moormann (formerly senior game designer on LoR) about what the team learned from its virtual CCG. Read the rest of the story... Amazon’s planned Lord of the Rings MMO game has been cancelled as part of this week’s significant layoffs across the company, it’s claimed. That’s according to a LinkedIn post of an Amazon Games worker who lost their job this week, who suggested in a post (spotted by RPS) that the planned Tolkien game has also fallen under Amazon’s axe. “This morning I was part of the layoffs at Amazon Games, alongside my incredibly talented peers on New World and our fledgling Lord of the Rings game (y’all would have loved it),” they wrote. The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it will continue using video games and other popular culture for propaganda purposes, amid criticism from developers behind one of the games featured in its social media posts. Earlier this week the White House posted an AI-generated image on X featuring President Donald Trump dressed as Master Chief from the Halo series, saluting a US flag (with missing stars) and holding a Covenant energy sword. This was followed by another post by the official DHS account on X, which showed a screenshot from Halo along with the message “destroy the Flood – join ICE”. Read More... View the full article
Capcom has opened preorders for Resident Evil Requiem and in doing so confirmed the various editions of the game and their bonuses. Preorders come with the Apocalypse costume for playable character Grace. It rekindles memories of 2004 movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse, starring Milla Jovovich as Alice. The deluxe edition, meanwhile, includes five costumes, one of which is Lady Dimitrescu for Grace, and two screen filters, one of which is Apocalypse. You also get four weapon skins, two charms, a custom sound pack (Raccoon City Classic), and additional in-game files (Letters from 1998). Lady Dimitrescu is of course the star of 2021's Resident Evil Village, a character who broke out from the confines of the franchise to become a genuine mainstream hit in the run up to the game's launch. The gigantic vampiric monster, played by American theatre actress Maggie Robertson, ended up fronting Capcom's Resident Evil Village marketing campaign, such was the excitement online about the character. Disney Dreamlight Valley loves to present tricky riddles for you to solve, and The Haunted Floating Festival is packed with loads of them to decipher. One of the tough hints you'll come across in this event asks you to find a fish that's always en garde. Since you're only given this clue to work with when there are over 50 fish to find around the valley and all DLC worlds, it's decently tough to determine which one is needed here. And even when you do know the right fish to hunt for, it can still be tricky to locate, so here's how to get a fish that's always en garde in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Table of contentsWhat is a fish that's always en garde in Disney Dreamlight Valley?Where to find Swordfish in Disney Dreamlight ValleyWhat is a fish that's always en garde in Disney Dreamlight Valley? Screenshot by Destructoid The fish that's always en garde is a Swordfish in DDV. "En garde" is a fencing term used when someone is ready to take action, so since the Swordfish has a long, pointed sword-like nose, it's being used as a hint for this specific fish. For the purposes of solving the Potion Brewer's House puzzle, you only need to find and catch one Swordfish. It's only one of several potion ingredients you need to track down, though, so there's plenty more work to be done after you catch one. Where to find Swordfish in Disney Dreamlight Valley Swordfish can be fished up from around the Dazzle Beach biome. It's only found in gold ripple spots, so it can take a bit to find one, as there's usually only one or two of them available at any given time. If you're having a tough time finding a gold spot, consider crafting and using Miracle Fishing Bait or Even More Miraculous Fishing Bait, which turns all white spots into gold ones. In most cases, any golden ripple spot you find in this area is guaranteed to drop a Swordfish, but there is one exception to this rule. If it's raining, the golden bubble spots will likely contain a Fugu instead, as this fish can only be caught around Dazzle Beach during this weather. Otherwise, any golden ripple spots you find here will have the fish you need. Screenshot by Destructoid Moana's Boat, which is her own special stall, can also have Swordfish for you to gather. For the purposes of The Haunted Floating Festival, it doesn't matter how you get a Swordfish, so you can catch a fresh one at the beach, grab one from Moana's Boat, or pick one up from your own personal storage. Once you're done getting a fish that's always en garde for The Haunted Floating Festival puzzle, you can move on to tackling other tough trials waiting to be solved around the island. Next, you might consider working on the Terror-rific Tree puzzle, the Ghostly Fox Critter puzzle, and the Combination Pillar tile puzzle. Like our content?
