  1. After a long wait, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is finally coming soon. A turn-based RPG by legendary director Yoshitaka Murayama, Eiyuden Chronicle has been in development since 2020 - although it's arguably been decades in the making. With gorgeous 2.5D graphics, a lush score, and a cast of characters as diverse as its title implies, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes looks to be a total throwback to the golden age of turn-based RPGs, a rarity in the modern era. 2. Dragon's Dogma 2 is a massive RPG released this year by CAPCOM, and it has plenty of secrets and treasures to be hidden. While the game's main questline will send the player running across most of the map, there are still many things that are easily missable. While some of these secrets are just flavor, many of the pieces of hidden content across the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl are engaging and interesting boss battles, treasures, and regions to explore. 4. Xbox appears to be going all in on preservation, as it has set up an entire team to ensure the future of the platform. A few years back, Xbox put a big effort into making many of its older Xbox and Xbox 360 titles playable on the Xbox One and Series X/S, a move that was welcomed by many as it made it a whole lot easier to play many classics that would otherwise have needed you lug out your old consoles you aren't even sure you had all the cables for, still. Now, as reported by Windows Central, a recent email sent by Xbox president Sarah Bond to the company's staff has shared that an entire team focused on preservation has been set up. "We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself," wrote Bond. "We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy." According to sources that spoke with Windows Central, Microsoft is possibly going to share more on this point around its annual showcase this summer, which might also reveal Gears of War 6. 7. Fallout 4's Sole Survivor is a stalwart figure of hope and persistence in the decaying Commonwealth and one passionate fan is bringing the protagonist to life with an incredible cosplay that also stars everyone's favorite canine companion. In every mainline Fallout game, aside from New Vegas, players begin their post-apocalyptic journey as a Vault Dweller, someone who managed to survive the nuclear devastation of the world by being born into the confines of an underground bunker. The Sole Survivor is different though in that, as the name implies, they're the only person who makes it out of the Vault alive. View the full article

  9. Baldur's Gate 3 dev Larian definitely isn't making a sequel, but whatever its next game is, it will definitely go down the early access route. Last month, many Baldur's Gate 3 fans across the world likely shed a tear when Larian CEO Swen Vincke said that the studio has no plans to make a sequel or even any expansions. Vincke shared that Larian will be moving on to something else, leaving the Baldur's Gate IP in the hands of its owners Wizards of the Coast to do something else with. Considering the fact that Baldur's Gate 3 is still regularly getting updates, and the full release isn't even a year old yet, it's unlikely we'll see what's next for Larian for a while yet, but in a recent interview with Game File (thanks, Kotaku), Larian's head of publishing Michael Douse did talk about release plans for the studio's follow-up. Speaking of self-publishing and early access, Douse said "This is the only way to do it now." He went on to note how marketing has cratered, and that an early access release allows a developer to create "social resonance" while less and less games make a big impression on players. Important is that Douse doesn't say that this is something everyone can do, and if you don't know how to do it, don't just do so heedlessly, but it did help Larian work on Baldur's Gate's strong gameplay loop, as well as build a community. And for the next game, Douse said it "will also probably be in early access." Read more View the full article

Survival Ascended is the re-release of the popular Ark: Survival Evolved, coming with graphical and quality-of-life improvements for a better product. While Ascended has gotten some flak for the poor performance on most non-high-spec computers, it is still a major improvement over the first game. 16. Many expected a structured esports league for women and other marginalized genders in competitive League of Legends after the successes of VALORANT’s Game Changers, but nothing surfaced. Team Vitality revealed this was actually in the works for League, but Riot Games has since abandoned communication on the project. Vitality is one of several ********* esports organizations that have invested a lot into their women’s League of Legends rosters. Their “Rising Bees” roster currently has full-time contracts, which team captain Velouria “Viki” Baty wholeheartedly believes helps them improve in an interview with Dot Esports. However, despite giving their female League professionals more support, coaching, and access to resources, both Viki and Team Vitality Director of Esports Anne Banschbach are “frustrated” at the lack of support from Riot Games. 20. A big change is coming to the App Store, as Apple is opening up its doors to allow video game emulators. For the longest time, if you wanted to emulate games on your phone, out of the two most popular operating systems, Android was the only way to do it. Playing emulated games on iOS has been a pain and mostly not popular since its inception, but in an update provided by Apple earlier this week, the hardware and software maker announced that emulators will now be allowed to release on its storefront, the App Store. Important to note is that any retro game console emulator apps are "responsible for all such software offered in your app, including ensuring that such software complies with these Guidelines and all applicable laws." Essentially what that means is that they can't let you download ROMs and the like through the app, as the distribution of ROMs does count as piracy. Emulators themselves are perfectly legal, as well as playing games on them, but it's ROM distribution sites that typically come under ***** from companies like Nintendo. It'll obviously take a bit of time for certain emulators to make their way to the App Store, so you won't be able to jump into them immediately, but if you are interested in emulation and only use Apple products, you'll soon be able to more easily get into it. 21. Invincible had its season 2 finale this week, and while it couldn't pull off the comic's Spider-Man cameo, the show's parody version is now a playable mod. Spoilers ahead for both the comic version and show version of Invincible. Fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Invincible's season 2 finale earlier this week, and not just because they were excited to see the comic's events unfold on screen. In the original comic, there's a scene where Mark Grayson, Invincible himself, is warping from universe to universe as he's fighting villain Angstrom, and in one particular panel you can see Spider-Man's arm, as a fun little nod to the character. Previous Spider-Man voice actor Josh Keaton had even teased that he was set to appear in Invincible, so fans were wondering if he would be reprising the role as a cameo. As it turns out, though, he actually played Agent Spider, a character that is definitely not Spider-Man. Read more View the full article

  25. It's been five years since the last main Gears of War entry, but it's sounding like Microsoft is gearing (sorry) up for a sequel reveal this summer. According to a recent report from The Verge, for Xbox's summer showcase, one of the big titles on the docket set to be revealed is Gears of War 6. In terms of numbered entries, the last title in the series was Gears 5, released back in 2019, so it's been quite a while since Xbox has had one of its tentpole entries, and outside of the spinoff Gears Tactics, there hasn't been a Gear title released on the Xbox Series X/S yet. The Verge says that this showcase is expected to take place Sunday, June 9, and a new Gear isn't the only thing set to be shown off. Apparently titles like Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are set to get release dates too, and this year's Call of Duty is also planned for a reveal. The Verge's report followed an earlier one from Windows Central, which shared that Xbox executive Kareem Choudhry is leaving Microsoft after 26 years at the company. This apparently led to a bit of a shake-up of certain teams within Xbox, part of a wider set of changes including releasing previously Xbox-exclusive games like Sea of Thieves and Pentiment on rival consoles like PS5 and Switch. Sea of Thieves is set to launch on PlayStation at the end of this month, April 30, and according to sources that spoke to The Verge, the pirate game's performance will be an important test to see if Microsoft will bring other games to PS5 or Switch.
