The cover art for Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws confirmed players with a physical disk will still need an internet connection to play the game. Star Wars Outlaws recently unveiled a new story trailer, which featured a sneak peek into Ubisoft's upcoming open-world adventure in a galaxy far, far away. However, some fans were displeased when images of the game's PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X box art confirmed its installation isn't as simple as slotting in a disk. View the full article
In the spirit of the first astronauts, Starfield allows players to pioneer and explore space, including building small bases on multiple planets. Like Fallout 4 settlements, Constellation explorers can establish elaborate trade and resource networks between bases. While these outposts offer an engaging level of gameplay for detail-oriented players, the clunkiness of Starfield's construction system often deters players from actually enjoying the resource management aspect of the game. Some games just leap off the screen. It only takes a single image to recognize the original Half-Life, for example, or the blood-soaked, pixelated textures of ***** and Quake. A mix of survival and surrealism, one of 2024's most intriguing new FPS games is also one of the most eye-catching; its vivid, sickly neon greens arresting your eyes the second they meet the monitor. It's a little bit BioShock, a little bit Sons of the Forest, and there's maybe a little Stalker in there, too. Nevertheless, this one has a unique visual flair and a clever mechanical gimmick, and you'll be able to play it yourself real soon. Read the rest of the story... Drop Bear Bytes, the studio behind post-apocalyptic RPG Broken Roads, are named after Australia’s deadliest creature. The Drop Bear might look like a normal koala, but they’re actually dangerous predators, fond of jumping from trees to maul unsuspecting chumps who forget to take adequate precautions, like urinating on themselves. Really, the story is a wind-up the aussies like to blag tourists with. If it looks like a koala, it’s just a koala. But it’s this sort of character, inspired by love for Australia’s unique landscape, culture and good-natured mick-taking, that forms the heart of the best bits in Broken Roads. I say ‘best bits’, but I should probably say ‘the only bits that I actually enjoyed’, unfortunately. ****** wiped out 80% of Australia’s population, and left the remaining nail-hard Nancys and tough Tobiases to fend for themselves in a world short of resources, but shockingly plentiful in both guns and pre-made Vegemite sarnies. You’ll pick one of four character classes - I went with ‘Jackaroo’ (cattle hand), because it was called ‘Jackaroo’ - before tackling a short tutorial section. You'll then be thrust into some events, where you’ll meet the rest of your starting party and kick off the game proper. Read more View the full article
Last week I went to a screening of Amazon and Bethesda's Fallout TV show, a spin-off yarn starring Ella Purnell (who voiced Jinx in the Arcane Netflix adaptation) as a recently surfaced Vault Dweller, scouring the irradiated wastelands for [SPOILERS REDACTED]. It's early days, but the show's first two episodes didn't make a massive impression on me, though I will concede that the sight of Amazon's branding on Fallout's infamous Please Stand By emergency broadcast titlecard makes a dangerous amount of sense. "New videogame adaptation turns out not to be absolute catshit" isn't really headline news any more, is it? After Castlevania and The Last of Us and so on, the idea that a game adaptation might be good has stopped being shocking. Even Werewolves Within, the horror-comedy movie loosely based on Ubisoft's VR version of the social deduction game Werewolf, turned out great. Fallout isn't coming into a world where it's unbelievable that a videogame show might be worth watching. I'm just glad it doesn't buck the trend... Read more.View the full article

The world of Fallout is one where miniaturization and sleek, modern technology never happened. Machines and computers are clunky and creaky. Guns feel like they could burst at the seams at any moment. Likewise, Frostpunk - and of course Frostpunk 2 - capture a dystopian steampunk future where even the most basic life-preserving actions require mountains of coal and steel. It's heavy, dank, and oppressive. You take that aesthetic and combine it with the isometric, party-based exploration and narrative of Baldur's Gate 3, and you get this gorgeous new RPG game, that's just got a new trailer and is heading soon to Steam. A dedicated Far Cry 5 player is using the game's map editor to recreate the iconic Whiterun from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. YouTuber Mojo Swoptops shared a short video of their work so far, where they walk through the main street of their Whiterun recreation. Starting at the entrance to the city, they walk past The ******** Huntsman, Warmaiden's, and Breezehome before arriving in the marketplace, where The Bannered Mare, Belethor's General Goods, and Severio Pelagia's house are all on show. "I decided not to replicate it 1:1 and instead have some fun using some of the other interesting assets I have at my disposal," Mojo Swoptops said in the description. "So far I am happy with the progress, but nothing can match the quality and art direction of the original Bethesda product." While it's just the main street at the moment, this Whiterun recreation will seemingly include the entire city one day. Mojo Swoptops shared the creation on Reddit too, where one user asked: "Have you built the Cloud District yet? Oh, what am I saying. Of course you haven't," a reference to the infamous Whiterun resident Nazeem. Despite the joke, Mojo Swoptops assured they were already working on this part of Whiterun and they'd share more when it was finished. It's not the first Skyrim location Mojo Swoptops has worked to recreate either, as another video shows their rendition of the Thieves Guild's base of operations Riften. With The Elder Scrolls 6 still five years away at least, fans have had to find their own ways, like this, to keep the ageing Skyrim entertaining. Another player recently accrued a 267,000 gold bounty murdering 5,000 NPCs in a quest to ***** "everything that was killable", for example, while one fan recreated the game in Age of Empires 2. Waves of sentimental fans recently booted up their old Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s to "retire" their original characters too, showing how much Skyrim has remained in player consciousness over its 12 years of being available. In our 9/10 review of the beloved RPG, IGN said: "Skyrim is a rare kind of intensely personal, deeply rewarding experience, and one of the best role-playing games yet produced." Patch 14.8 for League of Legends is on its way, and the community already got a few first glimpses at the upcoming changes. While they’re mostly exciting, players are afraid one change makes Mordekaiser overpowered. On April 10, one of the main League developers at Riot Games, Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, revealed the detailed list of changes coming in Patch 14.8. The “adjustments” category includes changes to Mordekaiser, whose Q and his R are being buffed to have lower cooldowns. Additionally, enemies won’t be able to Cleanse his R, while his E is getting a minor nerf. Many fans think this is way too strong a tweak, and the top laner could quickly get out of hand. Hello there, Destiny 2 people. Bungie's just dropped a huge update on its plans for the game's much-hyped next big expansion, the Final Shape, and there's a lot of stuff to unpack. For example, there's a new sublclass, Prismatic, which looks like it'll basically let you revamp how all of the game's existing classes play, as well as, er, achieve the enlightement required to lob some new grenades. Given the news that came out about Bungie late last year and the delay Destiny 2’s The Final Shape was hit with as part of all of that, it's fair to say the expansion's got a fair amount riding on it. So, what's the plan? Well, casually letting you achieve "Transcendence" for one. If you missed the big gameplay preview coving both stuff that'll be included in The Final Shape and the two month-long Into the Light update that kicked off in the game yesterday, arguably the biggest highight was the former's Prismatic subclass. What is it? Well, as Bugie desribes it: "For the first time, Guardians who harness Prismatic will be able to mix and match Arc, Solar, Void, Stasis, and Strand—combining them to unlock new potential in power and customization."
