  1. Image: Prime Video In making successful video game adaptations, it feels more important to strike the right tone rather than follow the source material to the letter. “Tone” in Fallout is Walton Goggins’ ********-soaked cowboy drawl ripped straight from the age of Gary Cooper and John Wayne extolling the virtues of bucolic Vault-Tec living with a sign that says “Test Subjects” just a touch off-screen. In other words: perfection. Image: Amazon Studios Fallout strikes such a pitch-perfect tone and its vibes are so postapocalyptically immaculate, that it doesn’t really matter what story the show is trying to tell. Something about a daughter (Ella Purnell) looking for her kidnapped father (Kyle MacLachlan), a high-value scientist (Michael... Continue reading… View the full article

  3. For over two years the Steam Deck has transformed how we interact with our game libraries. We can now play some of our favorite games wherever we like, with more convenience than a gaming laptop and more power than other traditional handhelds like the Nintendo Switch. Recent developments, however, have me worried that until a new generation of Steam Deck models is released, game compatibility could start to shrink when it comes to triple-A titles. 5. It may seem like nothing is original anymore. When watching the Triple-i Initiative, I wasn’t holding out hope for many original and new ideas. Until Dinolords came around.Sure, dinosaurs and Vikings aren’t exactly original concepts. But Vikings riding dinosaurs? What?Dinolords mixes Vikings and dinosaurs to the admiration of every young boyWhen I was a child, I had a pretty solid list of things that were “cool.” Dinosaurs and Vikings certainly made that list, and now I get to play with both in the same game as an ******. Very cool.Image: NorthplayOutside of the ridiculous and hilarious concept of dinosaurs and Vikings, Dinolords looks like a pretty solid RTS game of developing a castle and community whilst under siege by the Danes (Vikings) in 11th-century England. Dinolords isn’t the first to make an RTS game set in medieval times, so I’m looking forward to how it’s mechanically different and exciting (if you ignore the din...View the full article

  7. Art from the Monopoly mobile game produced by Marmalade Game Studio. | Image: Marmalade Game Studio / Hasbro Monopoly — a board game about forcing people into bankruptcy by buying up as much real estate as possible — does not seem like something that would make for an entertaining cinematic escape from reality, but Lionsgate plans to test that theory. Variety reports that a Monopoly movie is in the works at Lionsgate that will be produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap — the same outfit that backed Birds of Prey, Barbie, and Saltburn. In a statement about the new film, Lionsgate film head Adam Fogelson expressed his confidence in LuckyChap’s “clear point of view” on the Monopoly IP and excitement about the possibility of the game becoming another blockbuster for the production outfit. Hasbro, which also owns the rights to the Transformers IP, has... Continue reading… View the full article
  8. Call of Duty is taking the 4/20 holiday to new heights this year with limited-time events themed around the ****-smoking holiday. But a new operator bundle is taking the hashbrownie cake. The “Tracer Pack: Stoney Sloth” bundle may be the best one yet in Modern Warfare 3, which has already had its fair share of fun ones, but this one really is special. Just look at this high AF sloth skin for Captain Price. View the full article
  9. Illustration: The Verge Microsoft is previewing a new Xbox Cloud Gaming interface today that includes the social features and UI you’d normally find in the Xbox dashboard. The new interface includes access to a web version of Xbox party chat, so you can use a browser to join a call with friends instead of the dedicated Xbox desktop and mobile apps. The updated web interface also includes the ability to find and manage Xbox friends, send messages, view user profiles and achievements, and even access notifications. Microsoft is testing this initially with Xbox Insiders before rolling this interface out to all Xbox Cloud Gaming users. Screenshot by Tom Warren / The Verge The Xbox party chat interface on the web. 10. Cataclismo. | Image: Digital Sun There’s a new video game showcase on the block. The Triple-i initiative — a play on the term AAA, referring to blockbuster games — is a Nintendo Direct-style event focused entirely on indie releases from studios like Mega Crit, Red ***** Studios, and Evil Empire. “We felt a need for a showcase that highlights wildly different indie games but that have one thing in common; they resonate with millions of players around the world,” Evil Empire’s Bérenger Dupré said when the event was announced. The first showcase took place earlier today, and it was 45 minutes packed with announcements. There were big names like Prince of Persia and Palworld, as well as titles ranging from medieval strategy games (with dinosaurs) to futuristic action games... Continue reading… View the full article
  11. World of Warcraft fans have been longing for a chance to ***** back into the beloved continent of Pandaria as it once was. Later this year, Blizzard Entertainment will launch a new game mode within WoW called WoW Remix that will breathe life into the Mists of Pandaria expansion, allowing players to re-experience it in full with a few twists. WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria will give players a glimpse of the Mists of Pandaria expansion (originally released in 2012) through a new lens. Much of the content available from Mists will be available in WoW Remix from the jump, and you’ll be able to experience it entirely within the confines of modern (retail) WoW. The other squad members will have to land close to the said radius, touching one of the partners’. Why is this a thing? 18. We first learned of Spiritfarer studio Thunder Lotus' latest endeavour 33 Immortals at last year's Summer Geoff Fest. They showed off some brief snippets of its 33-player cooperative roguelike-ing, where you'd beat up hellish monsters in a miniature take on MMO raids. If you were intrigued by it back then, I have good news. The Triple-i Initiative gave us more of a glimpse at how the game would look in the hands, with precious UI markers and the promise we'll uncover new "******** Chambers". Lovely. No seriously, it does look quite lovely, if a touch predictable. Read more View the full article
  19. When it comes to Civilization 6, Command and Conquer, and most of the other strategy mainstays, the one thing I feel I can rely on is the ******, homogenized obedience of my subjects. Sure, they might occasionally take umbrage if I want to invade a peace-loving neighbor, or neglect to follow my orders precisely, and obliterate my battle plans thanks to some goofy bounce of their AI, but generally, I say and they do. Inspired by RimWorld and Crusader Kings, a new medieval strategy game from Against The Storm and Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse throws all of that into disarray. Already one of the most-wishlisted games on Steam (350,000 and counting), it's a smart blend of high-level city management and person-to-person social manipulation, and it finally has an early access elease date. 22. An early render of the SuiPlay0X1. | Image: Mysten Labs Last month, I told you how a new startup is trying to build an Android of PC gaming by picking up where the Steam Deck left off. It’s an intriguing idea from a company with an awful lot to prove. 24. If you don't specifically need the massive sequential speeds of the latest PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 SSDs, PCIe 3.0 SSDs such as the WD Blue SN570 generally offer all the speed you need for much less money. This budget SSD builds upon its predecessor, the SN550, with much faster speeds, but thankfully has an equally generous price. The Blue SN570 is already on our best gaming SSD guide as the best cheap SSD. While its price may be cheap, though, you don't sacrifice too much by opting for this SSD over many more expensive drives. It's nearly as quick as the fastest PCIe 3.0 SSDs we've tested.
