The new Warhammer Vermintide 2 versus mode is proving hugely popular, with a big turnout for its first open alpha test on Steam, which ran across the sixth anniversary event for the beloved co-op Warhammer game. The new mode brings in that classic asymmetrical multiplayer of the likes of Left 4 ***** 2 and ***** Space 2, allowing players to step into the roles of both the Heroes and the Skaven. Following on from an earlier closed alpha, the Fatshark team says it's very happy with the feedback from players, which ranged across a much broader playerbase, with DLC characters and a new map included this time around. Flutter Mane has consistently dominated the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet VGC meta since its introduction back in Regulation B, but its day-two usage rate at the Europe International Championships (EUIC) is only a fraction of what it once was. Day one of EUIC offered few surprises when it came to popular meta picks, but day two was a different story. The biggest story on the EUIC usage chart is Flutter Mane’s drop from second place to seventh, dipping from 42.7 to 32.2 percent between the first two days of competition. This means that while it’s the second-most common Pokémon in the entire tournament, Flutter Mane isn’t performing as well as you’d expect. To be fair, the Ghost/****** Paradox Pokémon is still incredibly good, and any spot in the top 12 is proof of that. It’s just alarming to see a Pokémon as consistent as Flutter Mane finally drop to the lower half of the usage chart, since this is unheard of for it. View the full article
Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge The entire time I was playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — the second part of a planned trilogy of FF7 remakes — I couldn’t stop thinking about replaying the first game from 1997. When the credits rolled on Rebirth, I had a difficult decision to make: how to play the original? There is no shortage of options. The game has been ported to most modern platforms, and I still have the original PlayStation discs (all three of them). But ultimately I decided on a beloved but oft-forgotten piece of video game hardware, the PlayStation Vita. And you know what? This little thing still absolutely rules. My rekindled love affair with the Vita started because of FF7, and I’ve been been making my through the game in fits and starts. But it has also... Continue reading… View the full article
Shadowheart has been one of the most beloved Baldur's Gate 3 characters since the game first hit early access, and a new cosplay brings her to life with a degree of detail that's truly worthy of her iconic status. As an acolyte of the dark goddess Shar, Shadowheart is a memorably conflicted Origin character and potential party member that can add a lot to any campaign. There's a lot of room for her to grow over the course of the game, whether moving toward the light or fully embracing Shar's grim teachings. View the full article

Valve and Counter-Strike 2 players are losing the ****** against cheaters, with players this week turning their ire to the frustrating surrender system as those running into cheaters just want to abandon their matches and jump straight back in the ******. When it comes to competitive CS2 you should never give up or surrender, but when your opponent in Counter-Strike 2 is blatantly wallhacking or spin-botting and you’ve got no chance to win, many just want the game to end. But, thanks to how the surrender system operates, many are left playing out an extra 10 minutes or more—and players have had enough. View the full article
