A big change is coming to the App Store, as Apple is opening up its doors to allow video game emulators. For the longest time, if you wanted to emulate games on your phone, out of the two most popular operating systems, Android was the only way to do it. Playing emulated games on iOS has been a pain and mostly not popular since its inception, but in an update provided by Apple earlier this week, the hardware and software maker announced that emulators will now be allowed to release on its storefront, the App Store. Important to note is that any retro game console emulator apps are "responsible for all such software offered in your app, including ensuring that such software complies with these Guidelines and all applicable laws." Essentially what that means is that they can't let you download ROMs and the like through the app, as the distribution of ROMs does count as piracy. Emulators themselves are perfectly legal, as well as playing games on them, but it's ROM distribution sites that typically come under ***** from companies like Nintendo. It'll obviously take a bit of time for certain emulators to make their way to the App Store, so you won't be able to jump into them immediately, but if you are interested in emulation and only use Apple products, you'll soon be able to more easily get into it. Invincible had its season 2 finale this week, and while it couldn't pull off the comic's Spider-Man cameo, the show's parody version is now a playable mod. Spoilers ahead for both the comic version and show version of Invincible. Fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Invincible's season 2 finale earlier this week, and not just because they were excited to see the comic's events unfold on screen. In the original comic, there's a scene where Mark Grayson, Invincible himself, is warping from universe to universe as he's fighting villain Angstrom, and in one particular panel you can see Spider-Man's arm, as a fun little nod to the character. Previous Spider-Man voice actor Josh Keaton had even teased that he was set to appear in Invincible, so fans were wondering if he would be reprising the role as a cameo. As it turns out, though, he actually played Agent Spider, a character that is definitely not Spider-Man. Read more View the full article

It's been five years since the last main Gears of War entry, but it's sounding like Microsoft is gearing (sorry) up for a sequel reveal this summer. According to a recent report from The Verge, for Xbox's summer showcase, one of the big titles on the docket set to be revealed is Gears of War 6. In terms of numbered entries, the last title in the series was Gears 5, released back in 2019, so it's been quite a while since Xbox has had one of its tentpole entries, and outside of the spinoff Gears Tactics, there hasn't been a Gear title released on the Xbox Series X/S yet. The Verge says that this showcase is expected to take place Sunday, June 9, and a new Gear isn't the only thing set to be shown off. Apparently titles like Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are set to get release dates too, and this year's Call of Duty is also planned for a reveal. The Verge's report followed an earlier one from Windows Central, which shared that Xbox executive Kareem Choudhry is leaving Microsoft after 26 years at the company. This apparently led to a bit of a shake-up of certain teams within Xbox, part of a wider set of changes including releasing previously Xbox-exclusive games like Sea of Thieves and Pentiment on rival consoles like PS5 and Switch. Sea of Thieves is set to launch on PlayStation at the end of this month, April 30, and according to sources that spoke to The Verge, the pirate game's performance will be an important test to see if Microsoft will bring other games to PS5 or Switch. Arrowhead Games have heard Helldivers 2 complaints about major game crashing issues that many have encountered after a recent update, but devs have warned there won’t be any more fixes for “a few days” for any other tech problems players have been running into.
