  1. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 director Daniel Vavra has spoken negatively about The Outer Worlds 2 developer Obsidian Entertainment. While Vavra seems to have enjoyed some of the The Outer Worlds 2, he expressed his opinion that Obsidian is relying on pre-existing game mechanics rather than doing anything innovative. 2. Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted rolled out in October, and I thought it was pretty good: Really just a higher-resolution (and more expensive) version of the original PvZ phenomenon, sure, but fine overall, and of particular benefit for people who want to play the game on a Steam Deck. Serious fans were unhappy, though, for a number of reasons, foremost among them the music... Read more.View the full article
  3. While many of ARC Raiders' mid-to-late game quests will task you with going to the far reaches of its deadliest maps or finding rare materials, some of them will have you backtracking to where you started on the Dam Battlegrounds. The 'Water Troubles' mission from Celeste is just one of these quest types, requiring you to visit the base of the Dam Battlegrounds in exchange for her rewards. View the full article

  5. There wouldn't be much of a point to the massive amount of items there are to discover and loot in ARC Raiders if you didn't have a use for them, which is exactly where your workbenches shine. While you can buy a lot of items from traders in ARC Raiders, countless others can only be reliably obtained through workbenches and blueprint crafting. View the full article

  8. It's dark before 5pm here nowadays so that means only one thing: seasonal affective disorder! Okay, maybe two things. It's also Game of the Year discussion time. 2025 has been a long grind for everybody, but there's been a myriad of excellent titles that have made the days go by a bit more easily. The year is winding down with just under two months left, and I have my own frontrunner for GOTY 2025, but I genuinely think you can't go wrong with a number of titles. Image via Supermassive Games Our Destructoid chat was abuzz today with discussion about GOTY 2025, sparked on by the fact that ARC Raiders may have thrust itself into the conversation, especially considering its multiplayer focus while most of the other games on the shortlist this year are single-player excursions. We'll be talking more about awards in a few weeks, but for now, let's open up the discussion with you all. If we're going strictly by review scores, then no game has a better claim for GOTY than Hades 2. While it launched into early access in 2024, it launched on all applicable platforms just over a month ago and has a whopping 95 overall Metascore when it comes to critics (I gave it a high score myself), and 8.7 user score. It's a masterpiece and evolution of the roguelike genre. Then there's the game on the tip of most gamers' tongues this year: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With a 92 Metascore, it's one of the best-rated games of the year, and may come to define what most players think of the turn-based RPG genre. It's the game I think of most when it comes to excellence in 2025 as an expertly-crafted title made all the more impressive that it came from a small team of mostly ex-Ubisoft devs based in France. And it just gets wilder from there. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is arguably some of Hideo Kojima's best work. Hollow Knight: Silksong delivered on impossible levels of hype after going M.I.A. for years. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 provided a stellar RPG experience. Puzzles more your thing? Blue Prince took everyone by surprise when it dropped in April. Easy-going co-op gamer? Split Fiction was another stellar two-player entry from Hazelight Studios. Open-world platformer lover? Donkey Kong Bananza became one of the Switch 2's first must-have games this summer. And all of them have a case for GOTY discussion. Image via Kojima Productions The list goes on. Sword of the Sea, Monster Hunter: Wilds, Absolum, Ball x Pit, if you've played it in 2025 and you name it, you can probably make a case for it to win some awards. And the variety in there is just fantastic for gamers, because there's something for just about anybody. So now, I feel compelled to pose the question to you, dear reader: what's your pick for GOTY 2025? Let us know in the comments below, and keep it civil, because it doesn't feel like there's any wrong answer. The post The 2025 Game of the Year field is crowded and varied, and I don’t think there’s a wrong answer within appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  9. Upgrading the workshop is of the utmost importance to all ARC Raiders players. However, doing so isn't so easy, given that many of the workstations require tons of rare and hard-to-obtain materials to be improved. The Explosives Station needs a peculiar item called Laboratory Reagents, which can prove daunting to obtain. Here's where you should look to consistently find this crucial item. ARC Raiders Laboratory Reagents location The Arrival Building on Spaceport is a great place for good loot and finding Laboratory Reagents. Screenshot by Destructoid Laboratory Reagents are a random drop found in the world and cannot be purchased from any vendor at the moment. This means you can solely get it by looting specific containers, with some areas having a greater chance to drop them. Thus, you should look for the Laboratory Reagents in areas marked as Medical, such as the Hospital in the Buried City map, which has high odds of dropping several of these items per run. Additionally, the Arrival Building on Spaceport tends to contain a lot of Medical items, including Laboratory Reagents. Scour all the wings of the structure to maximize loot, as this place also drops a lot of cool stuff from other categories. If Embark decides to add Laboratory Reagents as a purchasable item, we'll update the article with that information, but for now, you'll just have to pray for the best while checking out the two recommended areas above. Naturally, any Medical area also works, but those with High Loot labels tend to produce the best results overall. 10. Celeste likes to send you on quests all over the Dam Battlegrounds in ARC Raiders, but has a knack for giving vague directions. In "Keeping the Memory," she wants you to check on a memorial placed for those fallen in the First Wave of ARC's invasion. "Keeping the Memory" becomes available directly after completing the "Straight Record" quest, also from Celeste. View the full article

  13. The zookeeping sim Planet Zoo launched six years ago today, and it was pretty good: "Another strong (yet stressful) management sim from Frontier Developments," PC Gamer's number one menagerie manager Chris Livingston declared in a 75% review. The studio released a six-year anniversary video to celebrate the birthday, which is usually the sort of thing we don't pay much attention to around here, but I'm making an exception in this case because there is a very strong hint at the end suggesting that a sequel is on the way... 14. Holy pizza, they're making an Overcooked reality TV show at last. This news dropped today from Deadline, which reports that the series is in the works for Netflix from A24. This would be A24's first reality series. The reality show is supposedly an unscripted format along the same lines as Nailed It! and Floor Is Lava, and will feature kitchen challenges with a bent toward the kind of chaos you might see in the Overcooked video game. You know, trying to cook meals in the beds of two moving trucks, for instance. Probably. I'm sure. The show is in the early stages and is being produced by Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan, all members of developer Ghost Town Games. Overcooked first released in 2016, as an up-to-four-player cooperative game where players try to complete cooking tasks to build orders to meet customer requests, all while dealing with various kitchen obstacles. It's a fun, chaotic time that we gave an 8.4/10 back in 2017 when its Nintendo Switch port first arrived. As our reviewer said then, "Overcooked is one of the freshest couch co-op games I’ve ever played. It’s a perfect blend of strategy and chaos, asking you and your teammates to think on your feet as its smart and strange levels do everything they possibly can to make sure you are shouting at each other." The "All You Can Eat" version of Overcooked, which includes both Overcooked and its sequel, Overcooked 2, online play, and all DLC, launched back in 2021. 15. Europa Universalis 5 is the latest grand strategy game by Paradox Interactive and, while it only just released on November 4, the developers have already confirmed that three big DLC packs are on the way. In Europa Universalis 5, gamers get to watch nearly 500 years of history unfold before their eyes as they take part in diplomacy, trade, and war. As with other titles in the series, this game emphasizes the importance of history, paying close attention to even small details when bringing the world to life. View the full article

  18. The Roots update is now live in PEAK, and Fortified Milk is a brand-new consumable added to the game. While Fortified Milk has been added as part of the Roots update, you can find it in other biomes. Infact, getting it for the first time appears to be easy as you start with one. However, the test begins as you try ascending the heights. This guide will help you find more Fortified Milk on your journey and explain how it works. Table of contentsHow to get Fortified Milk in PEAKHow does Fortified Milk work in PEAKHow to get Fortified Milk in PEAK Getting the first Fortified Milk is easy, as you get it from the ****** site. Finding it once again will depend on your luck. They appear to be found in luggage spread all over the map. They're also available in SHORE and ROOTS, and could be available on other biomes as well (yet to be tested). If you want to get more Fortified Milk, you should scour the map and look to open as many luggages as possible. Finding it will eventually depend on your luck, but it's advisable to have at least one in your inventory purely due to its in-game effect. Screenshot by Destructoid How does Fortified Milk work in PEAK Fortified Milk is a fantastic item to have in your inventory. Once you consume it, the item generates an armor around you. This armor can block any kind of incoming damage. The extent and nature of the damage don't matter. If you have the armor on you, your stamina bar won't have any adverse effects. That said, the effects of Fortified Milk aren't permanent. It will disappear if your stamina bar falls too low. If you have one, consume when you're facing one of the new terrors in ROOTS, like the spiders. You'll be able to block all incoming damage. Blocking 100 total damage with the Fortified Milk will also get you the Calcium Intake badge. The post How to find and use Fortified Milk in PEAK appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  19. ARC Raiders players worldwide (myself included) have been getting the Logging failed due to service interruption error popping up randomly, and it's causing many problems for those looking to visit Topside. The latest problem seems to have been happening since Tuesday, Nov. 4. It also appears to be exclusively happening on PC. This guide will help you solve the problem to some extent so that you can continue your grind. ARC Raiders 'Login failed due to service interruption' solution A permanent solution has to appear from Embark. Nobody knows the exact cause of this error, and reinstalling or updating the files doesn't appear to work. We will likely have to wait for the next patch for the problem to disappear. Until then, here's a method you can try out. I was getting the error quite frequently, but I have yet to have a recurrence after applying this solution. Screenshot by Destructoid Close the game and Steam.Shut down your router.Wait a few moments.Restart the router and wait for the internet connection to be restored.Restart Steam, and launch the game. This should hopefully prevent the error from popping up, and you should be able to launch ARC Raiders without any issues. That said, the error could return once again when you're trying to launch the game. Repeat the steps mentioned in this guide. I am hopeful that Embark will release a patch soon to address the problems players are currently experiencing. While ARC Raiders servers are operational at the time of writing, many players have also been reporting errors when trying to connect to a server. If you're also getting ARX errors in matchmaking, you're not alone. I am unsure when the current problems will subside, and the high player count could also be a contributing factor to the server issues. 23. There are many words that could be said, and I'll attempt to say a few of them here, on the gamification of both menial labour and tasks, but it is always fascinating to me when a new game crops up that somehow makes me go "oh, sure, why not!" Today that applies to a game called Leaf Blower Co., which is a simulation game about exactly what you'd expect (blowing leaves) and I suppose not what you expect (blowing paper boats and coconuts).
