Sorry, it seems like you won't be able to leave your bloated Steam library to anyone in your will - it's against Valve's terms of service. Picture this: you're dying (sorry to hear that, by the way). You've not got long left, and you need to make sure your will is in order. But rats! You just remembered - your Steam account filled with 1039 games (863 of which you've never played) isn't mentioned anywhere. So, you write a list of all the people you could bequeath it to, eventually settling on your cousin Eileen because she's the only gaming family member you have. Then, oops, your time runs out, you make your way up to those pearly gates, and live out the rest of time filled with eternal peace. Accept, as you watch your will being read aloud, you notice a familiar face in the crowd - it's Gabe Newell, and he's there to personally make sure your Steam account isn't handed over to Eileen, because, well, you're not allowed to do that. Yes, that's right, as first reported by Ars Technica, Resetera user delete12345 recently shared the fact that you are not allowed to put your Steam account in your will. When asked about whether ownership of their Steam account can be transferred via a will, Steam Support responded, "Unfortunately, Steam accounts and games are non-transferable. Steam Support can't provide someone else with access to the account or merge its contents with another account. I regret to inform you that your Steam account cannot be transferred via a will." Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke has admitted the Baldur's Gate 3 team had "to crunch a bit" during development, meaning employees had to work overtime in order to finish the game on time. As reported by Games Radar, Vincke said at the Digital Dragons conference that the amount of crunch required for Baldur's Gate 3 was less than the studio's previous games, however, and he thinks some overtime is always required to complete a game. "Certainly less on Baldur's Gate 3 than we did in the past," Vincke said when asked if Larian employees had to crunch to finish development. "It would be a lie to say that we didn't. We had things happen that we didn't foresee." It would be a lie to say that we didn't. Vincke insisted employees, including himself, "didn't overly crunch" but "did have to do a bit" to wrap up Baldur's Gate 3. Employees would almost always leave by 8pm and worked at weekends "very, very, very rarely", he added. "I think, to be honest, you will always have a little bit when you're trying to finish something, especially when there's so much complexity that needs to be brought together," Vincke said. Crunch has proved a controversial topic within the video game industry, with developers such as CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, being criticised for forcing mandatory overtime upon its employees. The backlash was seemingly heard loud and clear by those in charge though, as studio leaders insist CD Projekt Red has moved away from that style of working. Baldur's Gate 3, a Dungeon & Dragons based role-playing game, proved a smash hit upon its release in 2023, earning myriad game of the year awards alongside a 10/10 review from IGN. "With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur's Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs," we said. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article

Rian Johnson isn't letting anyone forget about his ongoing whodunit saga starring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, as the third movie has just received a title (Wake Up ***** Man) and a tentative release window. The announcement, which came through Netflix's official channels as well as the filmmaker's social media, is just a small tease and the promise of the threequel hitting Netflix at some point during 2025, but fans are already coming up with all sorts of wild theories about the plot. In late 2023, we read about Johnson being right in the middle of writing the script for his third Benoit Blanc mystery, and it seems like the process has been as smooth as his past efforts. We also knew a basic treatment had been locked for years now, so it was just a matter of working on a final script and kicking off pre-production. It now looks like we could be hearing about the cast for his next movie sooner rather than later. Read more View the full article
It's been three years since Square Enix revealed its Dragon Quest 3 remake, and the developer has (probably) finally offered a small, odd update for it. If you didn't know, May 27 in Japan is Dragon Quest day, as the very first game released on this day all the way back in 1986. Usually Square Enix has some kind of announcement for the series every year, with 2021 being the 35th anniversary of the series, leading to an announcement of both Dragon Quest 12, and an Octopath Traveler style HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3. There's pretty much been no word on either title since then, and Square Enix has kept it a little quiet in terms of announcements so far today this year, but it did release a very short teaser for what appears to be the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake. I say appears to be, because the teaser doesn't actually mention Dragon Quest 3 by name. It shows the series' overall emblem, the iconic Dragon Quest logo, and a logo for the HD-2D visual style, but nothing about Dragon Quest 3 specifically. There were some platforms listed below though, so we definitely know the game is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but overall the tease is a bit of an odd one. As posited by our own RPG and Square Enix expert Alex, it's very possible that this remake project might now be of the first three games rather than just the third one. Crunch is a widespread issue across the games industry, and as beloved as Larian Studios is, even it had to do some on Baldur's Gate 3. Look, nobody likes to hear that their favourite studio crunched to make a game they love, but unfortunately that'll pretty much always be the case with big games. I wish it wasn't, and more should be done to circumvent it, but the game industry hasn't set itself up particularly well to avoid such issues. And unsurprisingly, one of last year's biggest games, Baldur's Gate 3, was subject to some crunching too, as admitted by game director and Larian CEO Swen Vincke in an interview with GamesRadar. When asked about whether the team had to work substantial overtime to hit deadlines, Vincke responded, "Certainly less on BG3 than we did in the past. It would be a lie to say that we didn't. We had things happen that we didn't foresee." Vincke noted that in order to mitigate that, the numerous global studios that Larian had setup were there to ensure that the game had 24-hour coverage, making it so that no single person had to work more to fix a late-night problem. Just last week Larian set up a new Warsaw-based studio, which will be helping with the developer's next couple of "very ambitious RPGs". Vincke did also say that paid overtime did help soften the ***** for anyone that did have to work late, though he also claims that crunch on Baldur's Gate 3 wasn't "as long as you would consider crunch." Offices would supposedly be almost empty beyond 8pm at night, and staff working weekends occurred "very, very, very rarely." Read more View the full article

Dota 2 Patch 7.36a doesn’t focus solely on fixing problems that sprouted out of its mega predecessor changing so many elements. The Pit of Artificers is one of the very best endgame features added to Diablo 4 in the major Season Four update, but even with how fun and challenging the echoes have been, there’s still room for improvement—especially, some players are claiming, when it comes to visibility and one-shot mechanics. As you progress through the levels of the Pit, you will encounter new dangers, various mobs, some of which consist of elites, and echoes of past bosses like Lilith and the Tomb Lord. It’s more than a challenge to defeat them and the boss of the Pit simultaneously. While it’s doable, players agree that the one-shot mechanics need to be “tuned” and the visibility of the echoes attacks (as well as the echoes themselves) need to be improved at the higher levels because they’re basically, as some players have put it, “shadowy and transparent.” View the full article

Team Falcons has overcome a banger new Dota 2 patch and a late rally from Gaimin Gladiators to take out DreamLeague Season 23, locking in back-to-back DreamLeague titles and securing themselves a spot at Riyadh Masters 2024. Falcons was all but assured to make the Saudi Arabian mega-event in July after a purple patch of form over the past few months, but the 3–0 sweep of Gaimin—and a completely clean upper bracket run without a match lost—accentuated the team’s dominance over professional Dota this season. In fact, had they not split their groups series against Shopify Rebellion, Falcons would have clean-swept the entire event. View the full article
