We weren’t counting on witnessing the reveal of a new Monster Hunter game when we woke up this morning, but we’re glad to see it nonetheless. Capcom just revealed Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles out of nowhere. This is the sort of game you might see couched between reveals at Summer Game Fest, so it’s a little strange Capcom couldn’t wait a few more days for this year’s event. Nevertheless, this is very much unlike any Monster Hunter game you might have expected. Read more View the full article

Amazon will air a live-action TV series based on *****'s Yakuza games in October this year, says the streaming service. Like A Dragon: Yakuza will be a six-part series following characters in the ********* underbelly of Kamurocho, set to straddle between two time periods: 1995 and 2005. The series "showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore,” said Amazon, who are releasing it through Prime Video, just like their Fallout series. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has barely even started on season 5, but he already knows the show won't end there. It's pretty clear that Amazon is happy with how The Boys is doing, as the streaming series got an early season 5 renewal last month, a whole month before season 4 is set to drop. In turn, there's no reason to think that Amazon wouldn't want to keep that gravy train running, and series showrunner Kripke certainly sounds happy to do so. Back in 2020, as part of a Twitter Q&A, The Boys TV series creator did say there were five seasons planned in total. "My last show, Supernatural, I said five seasons for sure, and then that f***er went 15," said at the time. "So I'm mostly going to keep my mouth shut, but creatively five feels like a good round number." Now, in an interview with Inverse, Kripke has gone back on that, saying that he does actually have plans to go beyond the fifth season. "I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go," Kripke said. "Someone pointed that out to me and I was like, 'You're right. That's ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.' And so I will." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Amazon executive Vernon Sanders did seem to suggest there wasn't any intention to end The Boys any time soon, saying, "Eric has had a vision for what this all leads to for years now, and we've been in an ongoing conversation about what comes next. So, it's probably ********** to talk about that beyond saying we believe in Eric, and if Eric is interested in continuing the story, we'll be the first ones in line to really work with him on what that is." Team Fortress 2 will be celebrating its 17th birthday this October, but players aren’t in a celebratory mood and are instead desperately crying to Valve for help. Team Fortress 2 is currently being review-bombed on Steam and has dropped to “mostly negative” reviews, with players saying it’s “entirely unplayable.” Players who posted negative reviews point out how the title is swarmed with bots, making it impossible to have fun. Ok, we all know Roblox as the home of many weird and wacky things you might not expect, and here's the latest of those - the horrors of working at Swedish flat-pack furniture store IKEA. Yep, ten lucky people will soon be hired by IKEA to run a virtual shop selling virtual Tillslag trestle tables, and if you're over 18, you could be one of them. Don't worry, you will be paid for pausing your pursuit of a Takeshi's Castle ******** course world record in order to join the retail workforce. "The Co-Worker Game" is the name of this IKEA venture and it's a virtual store that's set to open in the game on June 24, with the aim of allowing "players to immerse themselves in the working world of IKEA" (thanks, TheGamer). Basically, the goal is giving people a taste of what it's like to work in a real IKEA, at least in terms of what you do and what the career progression is like. Read more View the full article
The Team Fortress 2 community has come together in an attempt to brute force developer Valve into fixing a **** problem that has plagued the hero shooter for years. Disgruntled players of the near 17-year-old shooter, which ******** one of the most-played games on Steam, have taken to user reviews to let their feelings be known about bots. This review campaign has caused Team Fortress 2’s recent reviews user rating to plummet to ‘mostly negative’, with pretty much all the comments complaining about bots. “It's time Valve does something about the bots,” reads one review from a user with over 630 hours on Team Fortress 2. “The game has been overrun with people willing to doxx, DDOS, and SWAT anyone who takes action against the problem.” “The current state of this game is borderline unplayable,” reads another review from a user with over 950 hours. “It is ********* that Valve has done nothing against this issue, and have continued to profit off of this game.” “Valve, you've got a gem of a game here that has left a mark on the internet culture for longer than I can remember,” reads another review, this time from a user with over 700 hours of game time. “We're tired of bots running rampant across the casual matchmaking. We want you to step in, we don't want another update, we don't want any cosmetics, we want you to #FixTF2.” Team Fortress 2 is one of the oldest actively supported video games on the market, and ******** popular enough to place within the top 10 games on Steam based on concurrent player numbers. However, some players have said this active player count is misleading, with cheater bots filling servers instead. Idle bots, meanwhile, farm Team Fortress 2 for free item drops. Some believe Team Fortress 2 has tens of thousands of bots idling in private servers, contributing towards the impressive player count on Steam. Frustrating the Team Fortress 2 player base further is the apparent silence from Valve over the issue. The company continues to support the game with events, the latest of which ends on June 30, tournaments, and bug fixes. In April, Valve updated Team Fortress 2 to finally add 64-bit support. But there is no fresh word on the **** problem from the company. "For the past five years, Team Fortress 2 has become nearly unplayable. The community has organized an online #FIXTF2 campaign and set up a website that includes a petition with nearly 200,000 signatures. “For the past five years, Team Fortress 2 has become nearly unplayable,” the campaign website reads. “The game’s official servers have been overrun by hordes of cheating aimbots while Valve has remained steadfast in their refusal to adequately tackle the problem. This lack of developer interference has thrown the game into a state of turmoil with seemingly no end in sight. “Despite being aware of the **** crisis, Valve has instead directed their focus towards other ventures, leaving TF2 with insufficient support in its grave time of need. From the outside, Valve appears to be more concerned with generating millions in revenue every month via in-game microtransactions, rather than maintaining a product that should work as expected. “There’s no putting it lightly, Team Fortress 2 is in an unacceptable state, and Valve’s apathy in dealing with the issue is nothing short of appalling.” Valve currently operates Steam, the Steam Deck handheld, various virtual reality initiatives, and on the video game front competitive shooter Counter-Strike 2, MOBA Dota 2, as well as the Half-Life, Team Fortress, and Left 4 ***** franchises. Valve is reportedly working on a brand new MOBA shooter called Deadlock, which it has yet to announce but has suffered significant leaks in recent weeks. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Nothing has managed to topple Dune Part 2 at the box office so far this year, and director Denis Villeneuve is "disappointed" about it. Generally, one might assume that being the biggest film of the year would be something to be happy about, potentially celebrate even. For Villeneuve, that isn't the case though, as while he was in Toronto last week to receive the Academy Icon Award at the 2024 ********* Screen Awards (via Deadline), the director shared that he was "disappointed to still be number one," referencing Dune Part 2 still sitting as the most successful film of the year so far. The sequel has grossed over $711 million at the box office, having been released back in March, and the only thing to have come close is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire at $567 million. "I hope soon that there will be other successes at the box office," continued Villeneuve. "I hope, sooner or later, that this summer box office will be much better." The director did explain his reasoning behind his disappointment though, saying, "I think we need movies that are theatrical experiences, that will fully embrace the power of the theatre, and I'm not just talking about Dune 2. Of course I'm talking about many movies. A movie like Civil War, for instance, is a strong example of a movie that absolutely used the power of the theatre. I was lucky that Part 2 did reach the audience, I wish it would happen more often, honestly." Read more View the full article

According to a *****, Kirara and Nilou may be the next characters to receive new skins in Genshin Impact and will also feature prominently in the Flagship Event for Version 4.8. Genshin Impact has traditionally done alternate outfits for its characters in two batches every year: during the Lantern Rite and during the Summer Event. The previous beneficiaries were Shenhe, Ganyu, and Xinqiu, who received their skins in Version 4.4. Curiously, the two 5-Stars have yet to make a banner appearance since the debut of their alternate outfits, but this will likely not be the case in Version 4.8. View the full article

Generative AI use in film and TV is an increasing worry across the board, but you won't find any of it in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It's not an exaggeration to say that Into the Spider-Verse has had a big influence on 3D animation since it was released back in 2018. You can see that influence in films like ***** in Boots: The Last Wish and Turning Red, allowing more CG films to get really creative with their look. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, we've also seen a growing interest (from suits and executives, I should make clear) in generative AI, an obvious cost-cutting measure. Indie horror flick Late Night with the ****** caught a lot of flack for its use of generative AI, and there's been many criticisms of its use in film and TV across the board - that's a big part of why the writers' strike took place last year. Recently, during an investor event (via IndieWire), Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra said that the company is "very focused on AI. The biggest problem with making films today is the expense. We will be looking at ways to…produce both films for theaters and television in a more efficient way, using AI primarily." This is obviously an immediately concerning statement, as while there are legitimate uses of AI technology in film (Dune 2 being an example of this), there is no way to ethically justify use of generative AI. We’ll never know exactly what sort of fiction Tom Clancy would have written if he was less interested in the calibre of specific bullets and their effiency at dismantling burgeoning socialist governments, and more so in the specific sigils required to blast a riot cop through a third story window.
