Yakuza / Like a Dragon characters like Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga probably won't show up as expansion fighters in other games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken anytime soon. Series producer and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama told Polygon he didn't think Yakuza characters appearing in other games was a good idea, and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will instead stick to exploring other mediums like it's doing with the Like A Dragon: Yakuza Prime Video series premiering on October 25, 2024. "Going across mediums like we did with [the Prime Video series] is better, rather than just going to another game," Yokoyama said. "We receive all kind of invitations to appear in other games, but we never actually went over to their doorstep and said ‘let us in.’ I think going cross-medium is the better way to go about it." Wahey, Helldivers 2's Escalation of Freedom update is now live, bringing with it a number of ******* balancing tweaks that're probably worth taking a look at before you delve in. If you're just coming back to the game after a little break for this update, and haven't seen the headline stuff Escalation of Freedom's bringing, it's also well worth checking the list of big new features here. Especially since Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani's commemorated the update's arrival by ominously posting: "Helldivers - prepare your bodies. 'Today is a good day to ****'- Klingon proverb." In the full notes for the update, which you can find on Steam, Arrowhead's outlined the tweaks, which could well be tweaked further depending on the feedback it gets. Don't worry, there aren't as many as there have been in previous updates, and I'm pretty sure you'll like at least one of them. Read more View the full article
Balatro ******** a ******* game on the minds of thousands of players around the world. It's a big success, with many eagerly awaiting new updates for the brilliant time *******. The future for Balatro ******** a mystery, though one thing we know for certain is that the game will never find a home in actual casinos, despite its obvious thematic connections. This revelation comes via Twitter, where the creator has ***** down the actions he has taken to stop any such plans. According to solo-dev LocalThunk, he has written a stipulation into his will so that when he *****, the Balatro IP can never been sold to a casino or gambling company. This info came out in response to a bizzare *********** theory from another user on the social media platform, who speculated (probably jokingly) that Balatro and its imitators were part of a secretive plan to get younger generations into casinos. A wild perspective to be sure, especially since Balatro is purposely lacking many of the invassive or predatory monetization features present in other games these days. Cinematic platformer Bionic Bay opens on a scene of a very large egg doing very bad things - easily my third favourite genre of speculative fiction. You awake to a world of tree trunks that twist like viscera and corroded contraptions powered by luminous goop that’s stored in the ******, uh, big glass orbs. A beam of light soon fills your character with newfound vigour, which is a nice moment of triumph in what otherwise feels like a deeply oppressive rust pit, all unsteady platforms and jagged pipes. It doesn’t take long before you start spotting examples of the reason Bionic Bay went viral earlier this week. Above your head hangs a painstakingly detailed mass of vents and cables, looming lifelike with dust and shadow and history. I stood and stared because I’d seen how the sausage was made, but I like to think I would have lingered longer than usual anyway. It really is just that impressive. Read more View the full article

Star Wars Outlaws is the franchise’s first open-world title—and expectations are high. While plenty is coming in the base game, we’ve also been given a sneak peek at a roadmap that tells us what to expect in the game’s first year. Like many other Ubisoft titles, Star Wars Outlaws will feature a Season Pass that provides additional story content, cosmetics, and missions, the latter of which includes some fan-favorite characters, expanding the game’s lore. This week sees the release of a new Steam edition of Type-Moon and Kinoko Nasu's dark fantasy visual novel and dating sim Fate Stay/Night. I randomly watched one of Stay/Night's many anime spin-offs, Fate Zero, during the pandemic lockdowns. It triggered a short-lived obsession with the Fate series - I even dipped a toe in the long-lived mobile gacha game Fate/Grand Order. As such, I think I'm the nearest thing RPS has to a Fate "expert". Join me for a brief and sporadically informed tour of a universe that has Shaped The Culture like few others. Star Wars Outlaws is out relatively soon and looks relatively exciting, if you're into Ubisoft open worlds and pseudo-Uncharted mechanics with pewpews and dribbly aliens. And if you're excited, prepare to get more excited-er - or more exhausted-er - as Ubi have just unveiled Outlaws' DLC plans for season pass holders. Those DLCs will let you meet "notorious gambler" Lando Calrissian and "veteran pirate" Hondo Ohnaka, who I am definitely familiar with. Read more View the full article
When it comes to roguelike deckbuilders, there simply isn't anything that can stand against the sheer replayability of Slay the Spire so those who've yet to check it out need to jump on his new deal. Having launched out of early access in 2019, Mega Crit's shockingly complex card game has become a titan in the video game industry, inspiring plenty of competitors that just haven't been able to live up to the original experience. Slay the Spire feels like an essential addition to any Steam account, especially when it's going for such a good price. View the full article

Get ready for more John Wick (****** John Wick himself), as a sequel series is apparently in the works. It was reported earlier this year that a John Wick TV show is in the works, though at the time details were slim as to what it would be about. Now, as reported by Deadline, some more details have come to light, including the name of the series. John Wick: Under The High Table, as the series has been titled, already has an official logline, which reads: "John Wick has left the world of the High Table in a tenuous position and a collection of new characters will look to make a name for themselves while some of the franchise stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order. The series will combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age." It will apparently pick up "immediately after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4" and for those that have seen the film, you know exactly what position Wick has been left in. Keanu Reeves is set to executive produce the show alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, with the director of all four films Chad Stahelski executive producing via 87Eleven Entertainment - he's also set to direct the pilot. Robert Levin (The Old Man, ****** Sails) is currently slated as the show's writer and showrunner, and will also executive produce, with Lionsgate Television handling producing it. Ubisoft has revealed the full rundown of what you can expect from Star Wars Outlaws post-launch season pass content, with two story focused DLC packs set to feature fan favourite chracters now pencilled in for later this year and early next. These two story packs will fit in alongside the exclusive mission starring Jabba the Hutt which Ubisoft faced backlash for attatching to the season pass earlier this year, with the publisher subsequently confirming that Jabba and his cartel will also pop up in the base game. However, before you panic, both packs will "also be available for separate purchase" outside of the season pass. The first story pack - dubbed "Wild Card" - is set to release in fall 2024. "Kay is hired to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc tournament," the summary reads, "but as she crosses paths with the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, she soon learns that another game is being played." Yep, it looks like yoy may well get to do a bit of gambling with the guy who famously lost a certain souped-up Corellian freighter in a game of cards. Read more View the full article

You better appreciate the time you have left with House of the Dragon, as HBO has confirmed it's ending after four seasons. Those of you hoping the very popular House of the Dragon would run for as long as the original show it spawned from, Game of Thrones, are in for a disappointment. House of the Dragon showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal announced at a press conference yesterday (via Variety) that the spin-off only has two more seasons on the way, wrapping things up with season 4. Luckily, it wasn't all bad news at the very least. During the press conference Condal also confirmed that season 3 is currently being written, with some prep work taking place this coming fall, and production roughly planned to start in "earlylish 2025." That does mean season 3 is probably a while away, but hey, take the win's you can! In terms of episode count, and whether season 3 will have eight episodes like season 2, Condal said: "I haven’t had discussions with HBO about it. I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from Season 2 on." Back in 2022, just before the first season finished, A Song of Ice and ***** creator George R. R. Martin said that it "is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish" on his personal blog (Dance of the Dragons being the name of the book House of the Dragon is based on). While the episode count won't quite be what Martin had in mind, at least he's getting his four seasons. Read more View the full article

The latest roadmap shed light on two Story Packs, releasing in 2024 and 2025, which contain two popular characters from the franchise.
