  4. In a shocking twist of events in Metaphor: ReFantazio, Grius has been turned from the grizzly and reliable veteran solider in your party to an unfortunate boss battle as a member of the undead. The character's ****** following his ******* attempt at assassinating Louis at the Royal ******** was surprising enough, but now his battle-hardened skills, and some new ones, will be used against you. While this is not a multi-stage battle, the battle-hardened zombie-like warrior can make for as tough a ****** as when he fought alongside you in the events of the game until now. 6. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Skyrim's combat is by far its weakest element. Over a decade later, fights are more like hitting a giant sponge with a hammer than actual bandits. I don't think what Bethesda made in 2011 was bad - Skyrim's a huge game that works in so many ways it's a miracle - but fighting hasn't aged well. With so many Skyrim mods aiming to fix that, I've got a new creation that completely changes how NPCs act around you. It's a real treat. Read the rest of the story... 7. Metaphor: ReFantazio has received a lot of bad press for its music, but it's not all that bad. Suffice it to say that Persona fans have high expectations for Metaphor's score - it was composed by prolific Atlus composer Shoji Meguro, responsible for every mainline Persona game's soundtrack, as well as those of many Shin Megami Tensei games. Meguro is known for drawing inspiration from diverse genres of contemporary music, which often sets his music apart from other fantasy RPGs' more generic orchestral soundtracks. Most recently, Meguro drew extensively on jazz and soul in composing the iconic Persona 5 OST. View the full article

  12. In the popular free-to-play MMORPG Throne and Liberty, salt is an essential resource for anyone who is looking to level up their cooking skills. Cooking is a vital life skill in the game, allowing you to create dishes that will grant you some useful buffs as you explore the world of Solisium. 13. This is the latest guest column from Push Square, the voice of the PlayStation community, offering passionate, in-depth coverage and insight into the world of Sony. Its goal is simple: to keep you informed, engaged, and part of the conversation surrounding all things PlayStation. Sony sparked discontent among the PlayStation fandom in February this year when it said during an earnings call there’ll be no sequels or updates to “major existing franchise titles” on the PS5 before March 2025. With the platform holder keeping its content roadmaps close to its chest, the comments were largely taken out of context and many assumed this would be a lean year for the company’s new-gen console. While it’s true this has been a fairly quiet year for PS Studios, it’s been anything but light on the games front. At the time of writing, my three Game of the Year frontrunners are Astro ****, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio and the PS5 is the only platform where you can play all three. Other possible contenders for awards include Silent Hill 2, Helldivers 2, and ****** Myth: Wukong – all console exclusives. There seems to be a sentiment on social media that a game doesn’t count unless it comes from a wholly owned first-party studio, but PlayStation has done a particularly good job of working with partners to keep its portfolio packed this year. Stellar Blade is a great example. It collaborated with Korean developer Shift Up to help bring the NIKKE: Goddess of Victory creator’s console debut to market and in my opinion is another game in contention for an end of year gong. Rise of the Ronin, a similar partnership with legendary studio Team Ninja, may have received a cooler critical reception but it’s currently ranked 17th in IGN’s ongoing Game of the Year user poll, proving it was a hit with fans. The nauseating number of remakes and remasters may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s easy to forget The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launched this year and tagged a 90 critical average on aggregators Metacritic and Open Critic. And while many rolled their eyes at the rumours around Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, a $10 upgrade fee and re-recorded dialogue and motion capture mean it’ll almost certainly attract positive reviews as well. Not everything PlayStation has touched has turned to gold. Its complete misreading of the market with first-person shooter Concord will go down in history Of course, not everything PlayStation has touched this year has turned to gold. Its complete misreading of the market with first-person shooter Concord – a competent albeit uninspiring affair – will go down in history after getting axed after two weeks. And yet for all the talk of its live service initiative stumbling, it launched the fastest-selling game in PS Studios history with Helldivers 2, an online co-op smash that, despite benefitting from a simultaneous PC launch, has outpaced juggernauts like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and **** of War Ragnarok. It’s been a quietly colossal year for PS5 then, and you get the sense the best is yet to come. The company’s largely kept its blockbusters close to its chest but 2025 should see the release of Ghost of Yotei and ****** Stranding 2: On the Beach, with Marvel’s Wolverine waiting in the wings. These are the “major existing franchise titles” the ********* giant was referring to in that aforementioned investor call. Many may still argue this has been a light year for PS5 but the catalogue of content Sony has amassed paints a very different picture. The most exciting thing is that it’s successfully filled the time while its first-party teams continue to cook. A huge second-half to the generation now awaits. 16. Developer Atlus' Metaphor: ReFantazio was released this week with a couple of major milestones. It is not only the company's fastest-selling game on Steam, but also the biggest launch. 17. Skyrim's combat has not aged well. Weapons and magic are the weakest part of Bethesda's crowning RPG, and after a decade each is more akin to hacking at a tree stump or clapping your hands together. Bethesda did a great job modernizing its ********* mechanics in Fallout 4 and Starfield, but we're still waiting on the team to do the same with Elder Scrolls 6's combat. Until then, this new Skyrim mod does something truly astounding and adds a dense dismemberment system to the game, making fights feel new again. Read the rest of the story... 18. Mephisto in Fortnite is finally here as players celebrate the Fortnitemares, and he brings gifts for the players willing to pay the ultimate price. 19. Often seen as purely buffers and healers in Baldur's Gate 3, clerics are a seriously overlooked class. According to Larian Studio's stats, they are the least-played class for custom characters, which is such a shame as clerics have fantastic versatility. So, whether it's Shadowheart or Tav as the cleric dealing with undead and keeping the party in the ******, it's important to ensure they have the best equipment possible. 20. I have found myself particularly excited for Ororons full potential as a character in Genshin Impact 5.2 thanks to new leaks that thoroughly described his gameplay kit. Developer HoYoverse has confirmed that Ororon is one of the new playable characters being added to the action RPG with Version 5.2, alongside Chasca. Ororon has been presented as an upcoming Natlan character, but now his release date is imminent and, with it, new team comp possibilities arise because of the abilities he provides. There have already been Genshin Impact 5.2 character banner leaks detailing that Ororon will be a 4-star character. View the full article
