The Pokémon TCG Shrouded Fable expansion set couldn’t have come at a worse time for players heading to the Pokémon World Championships 2024, with many cards from the set able to turn the metagame as we know it on its head. Each TCG player has differing options, with some sharing their thoughts with Dot Esports on which new cards they expect to overtake the metagame ahead of Hawaii on Aug. 16. View the full article

There are times when I think each week's most intriguing new PC releases are being organised behind the scenes by a fiendishly plotting, Left 4 *****-style "AI Director". Mostly, the games approach in small groups distributed evenly among the weekdays - a steady ********. But every now and then, they treacherously mass and pounce on one particular day. This week, it's the latter. Read more View the full article
Call of Duty players have been treated to a wide range of ****** Ops 6 leaks this past couple of weeks, but last weekend’s unintended reveal of what looks like the title’s planned Warzone map already has some fans bailing out in lifeboats. The map, known as Avalon, was shown off by dataminers throughout much of last weekend following a huge wave of leaks containing videos and images of ****** Ops 6. Screenshots were taken and posted online, and while most were swiftly removed, many CoD players across social media managed to glimpse the new map. View the full article

Team FOLON, the group of volunteer modders responsible for the hugely popular Fallout London mod, intends to form a brand-new indie studio following the project’s roaring success. While fixes and a substantial content patch are underway for the total conversion mod, the dev team is headed for something *******. Speaking to BBC News on Aug. 10, FOLON’s Dean “Prilladog” Carter chalked out future plans following the mainstream limelight on its ambitious Fallout 4 mod. “A lot of people who have enjoyed [Fallout London] have donated to us and what we are doing with that is we are channeling that into Team FOLON,” Carter said. Valve has been forced to disable Lone Druid after Dota 2 players discovered a ****** bug involving a neutral item interaction that can ****** matches almost at will. The hero will remain unavailable until the developers find a fix for the druid and his spirit bear companion. The bug gained traction in the lead-up to last weekend, with Dota 2 devs ultimately pulling the plug on Lone Druid in a small update on Aug. 10. Lone Druid won’t be available to select in any mode as the bug stems from an interaction between the hero and his spirit bear. After transferring an active neutral item from the bear to the hero and back, any command then issued to the bear would ****** the server and end the game for everyone. View the full article
Normal and ranked games have become so exhausting for League of Legends players that many are now ditching the Summoner’s Rift for less stressful game modes like the Howling Abyss (ARAM), Swarm, Arena, and even League-adjacent Teamfight Tactics. The toxicity in League has always been one of the biggest downsides of playing normals and ranked games. As the years wear on, players have grown tired of the constant battle that is ranked and are opting to enjoy—as many agreed today—the pure chaos that is ARAM, while others are embracing League’s other modes. PUBG publisher Krafton has acquired Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP from Xbox, meaning the studio will no longer be shut down. Krafton shared the news in a press release alongside confirming that, "as part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects." "KRAFTON intends to support the Tango Gameworks team to continue its commitment to innovation and delivering fresh and exciting experiences for fans," the press release continues. "There will be no impact on the existing game catalog of The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the original Hi-Fi RUSH game." In May 2024, Microsoft announced that it had closed a number of Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks and Redfall's Arkane Austin. This was obviously met with shock and anger by developers and fans alike, especially after Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg said on X/Twitter in the past that Hi-Fi Rush was a "breakout hit for [Xbox] and [its] players in all key measurements and expectations. Hi-Fi Rush hit two million players a month after release and recieved very positive reviews. In our Hi-Fi Rush review, we gave it a 9/10 and said it "marches to the beat of its own drum with stunning animation, loveable characters, and stylish rhythmic action that are anything but one-note." While it's great news Tango Gameworks and High-Fi Rush get to live on, the other studios have not. For more on that, read out features on why success can't save your favorite game studios anymore and what the previously thought of end of Tango Gameworks means for Game Pass. Have a tip for us? Welcome back to another week of daily discounts. Please excuse my slight absence last week—I was off smashing Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2, a shooter with big guns and Power Armour-soiling ****** swarms. I also got to literal grips with a Moza Truck Wheel setup that let me live out my nichest, Pork Chop Express from Big Trouble in Little China fantasies. But, hey, enough about me; let's get you sorted with the best deals of the day, bar none. In retro news, I'm celebrating the 41st birthday of Mario Bros., the arcade cabinet that lauched a plumbing empire. Partially inspired by some of Joust's mechanics (and an Italian-********* landlord hounding Nintendo for rent), Mario Bros. was a non-scrolling arena affair that was quite addictive, especially in simultaneous two-player. Interestingly, it was made by a tiny team of just five people, all of whom were credited in its great, great, great, (great) grandchild, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Sadly, we'd rarely see such a lineage occur in modern game development, given how lay off happy this industry has become. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays for notable games. - Mario Bros. Cyberpunk 2077 is touted as one of the best and most immersive single-player experiences of our generation, and it's hard to argue with that assertion after subsequent updates and Phantom Liberty DLC.
