  1. Blizzard has detailed the updates coming to Overwatch 2’s Competitive Play in next week’s season 12 launch, including another rank reset, some changes, and new additions to the existing formula. In a new Director’s Take blog on Aug. 16, OW2 senior systems designer Gavin Winter reconfirmed that changes to the “Avoid as Teammate” feature will go live in season 12, now featuring 15 slots. Three of those slots are for players who can be “pinned” and permanently avoided, while the other 12 will be “recent” avoid slots that time out after a week. View the full article

Grungy horror extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown just received its biggest update in years, with developer Crytek upgrading its engine, overhauling its UI, adding a fourth map called Mammon's Gulch, and introducing other meaningful tweaks. 6. Arcane fans have been on the edge of their seats since the cliffhanger that ended season one three years ago. The anticipation for the show’s return has only intensified, and a recent Instagram story from Netflix Italy might have just given fans the exact date they’ve been craving. A seemingly innocuous Instagram story promoting Arcane’s latest official teaser, posted by Netflix Italy on July 23, cites Saturday, Nov. 2, as the date for the release of the animated show’s second season. While neither Riot Games, Fortiche Productions, nor Arcane’s social media accounts have officially confirmed Nov. 2 as the release date, the story on Netflix Italy’s platform has led many to believe an official announcement may be imminent at the very least. The second season of Arcane seems to be focusing on the conflict between the two sisters, Jinx and Vi, as well as the escalated conflict between Piltover and Zaun. Image via Netflix and Riot Games The Instagram story, now archived in the account’s “Hype” story highlight, simply states “Arcane arrives on November 2″ in Italian, and is followed by other show’s accurate release dates on the streaming platform. That date also coincides with the grand final of the 2024 League of Legends World Championship, which would make sense as the first three episodes of the show’s first season were released on Nov. 6, 2021, the same day of that year’s Worlds Finals. 7. For the first time ever, Riot Games has established League of Legends servers in the Middle East, known as the MENA server. This new server should improve ping for multiple different regions, but they will have to transfer over to take advantage of these new changes. The MENA server has been a long time coming, especially with players having to choose different servers that were relatively far away from their home. Ping would be much higher than it had to be, and as a result, performance was dictated by forces that were mostly out of players’ control. Now, players in the Middle East can jump onto their own server for the best possible results. View the full article
  8. Xur, Destiny 2’s mysterious merchant, sells all sorts of items when he drops by. Xur can even sell Exotic class items every week starting on Aug. 23, making his new spot in the Tower a nearly required stop over the weekend. While The Final Shape revamped his inventory and gave him a fixed location in the Bazar, arguably the biggest change to Xur took place as part of an update to improve Exotic class item acquisition. We’ll tell you if Xur is selling an Exotic item this week in Destiny 2—and if it’s worth stopping by his spot on the Tower if he doesn’t have one in stock. View the full article
  9. It seems that Overwatch 2's omission of new skins for heroes with Egyptian ties in its new Season 12 battle pass is causing some disappointment among fans. This isn't the first time Overwatch 2 has missed the mark with its battle pass or shop skins, as it has regularly missed opportunities to give skins to heroes who were well suited for specific battle pass themes or events, such as an Echo skin for the Porsche collab, or a Reinhardt skin for Season 8's Call of the Hunt theme. 12. The long-rumored return of Call of Duty: Warzone’s original battle royale map, Verdansk, is currently scheduled for early 2025, according to a report. The new report from prolific leaker @BobNetworkUK suggests that Verdansk is currently scheduled to return in season two of ****** Ops 6, which would line it up for a likely release sometime in February 2025. 14. From Final Fantasy 14 to No Man's Sky, we've seen plenty of dramatic comebacks over the years. In a year populated with big survival games including Palworld, Once Human, Soulmask, and Enshrouded - not forgetting regular updates for the likes of Rust, Valheim, and Ark - Nightingale struggled to maintain its initial player spike. But there's always the chance for a dramatic resurgence. In a new developer update, Inflexion Games showcases its completely rebuilt Realms system and lifts the lid on a reimagined, more structured story campaign. Read the rest of the story... 15. Double Bank Heist milestone points are back during the Monopoly GO Asteroid Blast two-day event, packed with over 4,000 Rocket Partner tokens and over 5,000 Dice rolls. The return of double Bank Heist rewards in the Monopoly GO Asteroid Blast event is refreshing, despite no Mega Heist timed daily events on Aug. 16. But the event runs for two days, so fingers crossed we get a Mega Heist drop on Aug. 17. The Asteroid Blast Leaderboard event synergizes well with Rocket to Sucess, which ends on Aug. 17. And there’s a Mega Heist at milestone 43 within the Solo event if you can unlock it within the next two days. View the full article
  16. [/url][Hidden Content] Those of us who collect classic game consoles and computers (here's looking at you, AI editor Benj Edwards) know the difficulty of keeping all that hardware not just working but instantly accessible with a simple press of a power button. Too often, large hardware collections end up languishing, boxed up on shelves or sitting loose and unconnected to a display for long periods. Saudi Arabia's Ibrahim Al-Nasser grew tired of having that problem with his massive gaming collection, so he decided to ***** 444 different gaming devices up to a single TV, earning a Guinness World Record in the process. "After a while, I noticed that I had a big stack of gaming consoles that I couldn’t play.," Al-Nasser said in a video filmed by Guinness. "The TV ports are limited, and if I want to play, I either unplug the existing consoles or I'll keep everything and add more switchers and of course more converters as well. By adding more switchers, the idea came to my mind to connect all of the gaming consoles I have to the TV, then contact Guinness World Records because this project is unique." 17. Baroque wilderness-builder Nightingale has not been doing brilliantly since Ed Thorn described the launch early access version as "a numbers grind disguised as a gaslamp survival game". We had moderately high hopes for it before the early access release - I personally enjoy the fairytale setting, with its pop-up Pucks and magic umbrellas, but I also think I've raised enough hovels on procedurally generated maps for one lifetime. Still, I'd quite like it to come good, if only so I can justify op-eds about Lewis Carroll, and I'm somewhat encouraged by what I've heard of the game's forthcoming Realms Rebuilt update. 19. The war between Epic Games and Apple seems to have come to a close, at least for those living in the ********* Union. Earlier this year, Epic Games said that Fortnite would return to iOS in the future, but did not give a specific release date, and that the game would only be available to download in the E.U. Now, Epic Games has confirmed the battle royale game is now downloadable through their Epic Games Store app within the region. Fortnite is also available to download on Android through the app, though that device doesn’t seem to have the regional restrictions that iOS has. Those who log into the game through the mobile app will get the chance to get the Katalina Outfit. View the full article

  21. In the early noughties, Nestlé launched a marketing campaign that proudly proclaimed its Yorkie chocolate bar was "not for ******!" - it even had a no-women-allowed sign on the wrapper. Setting aside the moral outrage this evoked in third-wave feminists, this slogan also lit a spark of mutiny in my tweenage self. I had long since disregarded Yorkies as a painfully average chocolate bar, but I saw this marketing slogan as a call for reclamation. "They're not for ******," I'd say, breaking off a square. 23. It’s been four years since players worldwide can’t play Fortnite on iOS because Apple blocked Epic Games from the App Store. Now, Epic Games has its own app store available for iOS in some countries. But why isn’t it available for everyone? We’ll explain. Why isn’t Fortnite and Epic Games Store available on iOS everywhere? Only some countries can download the mobile app. Image via Epic Games Epic Games released its app store on iOS only in the ********* Union because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which seeks to implement a fairer space in the digital market and allow for competition. That means Apple has to allow other app stores on their device, but only countries part of the ********* Union can download and install the Epic Games Store mobile app and play Fortnite on an iPhone.
