  3. Path of Exile 2 has been out on Steam Early Access for nary a week, but already it's been a wild ride of record-breaking player counts, servers buckling under the load, and overpowered builds that can one-shot bosses (though when they're not being ganked by broken builds, the bosses are actually way more challenging than Diablo 4's)... 4. Here's a fresh development in the ongoing saga regarding whether Bloodborne, and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware's parent company Kadokawa Corporation and Sony will put an Elden Ring on it. Sony itself has officially confirmed it's interested in such a takeover, and told everyone it'd really appreciate not having to do any more talking about it until it's ready. 7. Asus China has released a new video demonstrating the power of passive CPU cooling. While showing off the new ProArt PC cases, Tony Yu, Asus China's general manager showed that even when outputting 220W of heat, the PC's 16-core AMD Ryzen 9950X CPU stayed at around 95°C. This is an impressive feat from Asus, as most of the best CPU cooler designs on the market today feature fans or some sort of water cooling. It's all thanks to a massive Noctua NH-P1 cooler, a massive fanless heatsink that relies on case fans to expel the heat. Read the rest of the story... 9. New Path of Exile 2 patch notes have arrived courtesy of Grinding Gear Games, and there are some big changes including the rollout for some previously discussed features. The new ARPG has proven fantastically popular so far, selling more than a million copies in early access and consistently standing tall among Steam's most-played games, proving itself a serious challenger to Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred. However, its early access nature means that there are still plenty of adjustments to be made, and GGG isn't wasting any time. Read the rest of the story... 10. It's not often you see a gaming monitor with a fast refresh rate going for under $100, let alone one from a big brand, but this latest offer enables you to do just that. Thanks to Best Buy's latest gaming monitor deal, you can now bag yourself a Samsung Odyssey G30D, complete with a 180Hz refresh rate, for just $99.99, making it half the price of Samsung's MSRP. This Samsung screen's 180Hz refresh rate is the sort of spec you'd expect to find on more expensive screens, and it's even faster than the 144Hz rate sported by some of the displays on our best gaming monitor guide. Meanwhile, the 1,920 x 1,080 resolution is ideal for this 24-inch screen, meaning pixels won't look too chunky, and you won't need the very best graphics card to output a decent frame rate on it either. 11. With the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Patch 5, dataminers have uncovered information on cosmetics set to hit the game up to Season 9. The Year 1 roadmap for Space Marine 2 includes new content up to Season 4, which is set to kick off at some point in 2025 (we're currently in Season 2). Space Marine 2 publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive are releasing new Champion skins for specific classes with each season. The game launched in September with an Ultramarines Champion skin for the Heavy class, and this week’s game-changing Patch 5 added the Dark Angels Champion skin for the Bulwark class. Now, based on fresh datamines, that cadence looks set to continue with each season up to Season 9. Warning! Warhammer 40,000 spoilers for upcoming cosmetics follows! Redditor agentduckman12 uncovered information revealing the cosmetic DLC, reproduced below. Season 3: Raven GuardSeason 4: SalamanderSeason 5: Space WolvesSeason 6: Chaos PackSeason 7: Imperial FistSeason 8: White ScarsSeason 9: Blood Angels What fans don’t know yet is which class is set for each Chapter Champion skin, although agentduckman12 also leaked a Salamander Sniper Champion Pack skin render, below, so we know the Sniper class is set for a Salamander Champion skin. The Assault, Tactical, and Vanguard are classes are therefore still up for grabs. Obviously there are enough Chapters here for each class to get more than one Champion skin, unless Saber plans to release new classes in the future of course. If we’re looking at year one including four seasons, then we could be waiting until 2026 for Season 9 and the Blood Angels skin. IGN has asked Focus Entertainment for comment. Speaking of unannounced DLC, IGN has reported on the availability in-game of what looks like a Battle Barge expansion set to hit Space Marine 2 with Season 3. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Marvel Rivals has become an instant hit, attracting over 10 million players in the first 72 hours. 13. Between Escape From Tarkov, Gray Zone Warfare, and the other flagships for the still-burgeoning extraction shooter, FPS games have become a lot weightier; a lot more consequential. In many big, arcade-y shooters like CoD and, to a lesser extent, Battlefield and Counter-Strike 2, the pace is fast, the body count is high, and you have more freedom to take risks. EFT and its contemporaries have changed the pace. Realistic physics and damage systems mean that death is swift and that kills take skills. If you rush and neglect to strategize with your teammates, you're almost certain to get everyone wiped. Created by just four people, a new, tactical FPS takes this gameplay style to new levels. After a run of successful betas, it's just landed on Steam in early access, and you can try it right now. Read the rest of the story... 17. If your PC has ever started randomly roaring, and you check Steam only to find Space Marine 2 is panic-installing a 9 billion gigabyte update, then perhaps Valve's new upcoming feature is for you. For most of us, Steam simply slurps down fresh gigs of installed games automatically when a new update is released (and sometimes schedules the updates according to its own capricious whims). But the platform is testing a new option in the beta client, which lets you set download behaviour to git new gigs only when you actually launch a game. This would be a terrible curse, for reasons I will explain, but it's only going to be an option - not the new default. Read more View the full article
  18. Hello there. 2024's got one last sting in its tail when it comes to big games showcases, and that sting is this year's edition of The Game Awards - the ice spike to the fireball of Summer Game Fest in terms of level three mage Geoff Keighley's showcase spellbook. 19. While World of Warcraft’s Shadowlands expansion may be over, there are still some reasons to head back to the Shadowlands and catch up on content you may have missed. If you’re looking to complete some transmog runs, grind out reputation, or add an old mount from the expansion to your collection, you’ll have to make sure that you’ve completed the Shadowlands introductory quests. You cannot access the Shadowlands (or any portals to their capital city, Oribos) unless you’ve completed the introductory quests of the expansion. Thankfully, if you’re looking to unlock the zones of the Shadowlands on an alternate character, you’ll be able to skip the Shadowlands introduction and head right to Oribos. Still, you’ll need to pick up a short quest chain that allows you to do so in your faction’s capital city. View the full article
  20. If you're seeking a single external SSD that can deliver huge capacity, blazing-fast speed, pocketable portability, and rugged peace of mind, the Samsung T9 is the drive that should be top of your wish list. Its ultra-fast USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds mean its performance is superb, plus it's light, compact, and rubber-coated for reliable on-the-go use. These credentials immediately place the Samsung T9 among the best external SSD devices around. However, for those just seeking a drive for general portable storage of docs, music, videos, and app installers, the extra speed here is somewhat overkill. Even as a drive from which you can load your Steam or Epic games libraries, the extra speed here isn't going to make a night and day difference compared to more affordable options.
