Fists up, a big fighting game mod is due out this weekend. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite came out in 2017 and got some flak for its plastic figurine art style. But this year a modder began work on an overhaul that would grant the game pretty cel-shaded visuals. Since then the modding team has grown to 40 people and the scope of the mod's features has ballooned. It's now going to include new moves, stages, costumes, and a chaotic-looking 2v2 multiplayer tag team mode. All good news for biff 'em up sickos, as the mod is due to release on Friday. Indiana Jones has this hat. He wears it when he goes adventuring; it makes him look dapper and has the added benefit of shading him from the sun. Indy is one of the few action heroes you can identify by his shadow alone, partly due to his fedora, so if you want to capture the feel of Indiana Jones, you have to nail the hat. Enter MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is an excellent game in its own right and a worthy entry in Indy's existing canon, surpassing anything Dr. Jones has accomplished since The Last Crusade. First revealed all the way back in December 2023, Archetype Entertainment and Blur Studio's sci-fi action adventure Exodus hit us with a few things: Matthew McConaughey is involved, it looks a bit like Mass Effect, it's being developed by BioWare veterans, and it loves a bit of time dilation. With over 700 collectibles in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, there will come a point when you may need a hand to find one or two. Thankfully, the game offers helpful Exploration Book maps showing the precise location of every artifact or mystery available. How to find Exploration Book maps in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Exploration Books contain maps to help you find every collectible in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. You won’t be able to access every book during the early stages of the game, as many of them can only be purchased from vendors with in-game cash, which you can get in abundance by opening Voss’ safe. You can also discover Exploration Books during quests. This means that to find every collectible, you will likely need to go back to previous locations when you have enough money or a specific item. After much teasing, the vicious tyrants of Arrowhead Games and their noxious puppets, the "democratic government" of Super Earth, have announced the very first Helldivers 2 licensed crossover. In yet another hollow display of solidarity in the name of "Liber-tea", they've teamed up with the loathsome fascists of Killzone, the elderly shooter series from Sony and Guerrilla Games. From today, you'll be able to buy weapons, armour and cosmetics belonging to Killzone's despicable stormtroopers from the Helldivers Superstore, and there's the suggestion of an additional Killzone-themed reward depending on the fortunes of the so-called Galactic War, a xenocidal bloodbath couched as an exercise in bringing "freedom" to the huddled masses of the upstanding socialist Automatons, the blameless wildlife of the Tyranids, and the Wellsian cosplayers of the recently added Illuminate faction. We here at Rock Paper Shotgun stand against Super Earth and Arrowhead's wanton aggression, which absolutely isn't a big satirical joke based on some Verhoeven film or other. Anyway, those capes. Helldivers 2’s leaked Killzone crossover is real, and developer Arrowhead has released it. But be warned: these cosmetics are only available for five days. Hot on the heels of the Omens of Tyranny update, which added the Illuminate faction, Helldivers 2 has its first official crossover. Part one of the Helldivers 2 x Killzone crossover is out now, and includes a Killzone-themed armor set, assault rifle, banner, cape, and player title. Part two hits Helldivers 2’s store on December 23, Arrowhead said. In a blog post, Arrowhead announced that Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 belongs to a new tier of special premium content “reserved for collaborations and other uniquely-themed work," so expect to hand over plenty of Super Credits if you want the lot. Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2: New Items Now Available in the Superstore [Hidden Content] — Helldivers Alerts (@HelldiversAlert) December 18, 2024 The developer added that it plans to offer players “something distinct and special” with the content, and teased an additional Killzone 2 reward for all players depending on their success in the Galactic War. Meanwhile, Arrowhead outlined plans to improve the way Helldivers 2’s in-game store works. “Right now, many of you feel the items are in rotation for too short a time, and that you sometimes miss out on that killer look you had your eyes on,” Arrowhead said. “At the same time, the more things we add to the store the longer it takes to come back into rotation. “As we’re not quite ready to roll out a full redesign, we’re going to temporarily test longer rotations with Killzone, which will stick around for five days per page instead (there will be two pages of items to explore). “After this, the page rotation will go back to its usual cadence and we will be asking for your feedback on our test. If you think this is too short, or you want us to look into bringing items back for longer periods, we’ll ask again in future surveys.” Last month, Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt cautioned against doing too many crossovers, saying “it would dilute the IP and make it a ‘not Helldivers’ experience.” In its blog post, Arrowhead reiterated the point, insisting Killzone makes "perfect sense for the game." This crossover already has fans wondering if Sony may finally be ready to return to the Killzone franchise with a brand new release. Original developer Guerrilla Games has its hands full with the Horizon Online project and the inevitable Horizon 3, so any new game would probably have to come from another developer. Now is a great time to grab that screen upgrade you've been considering but couldn't afford until now, as this gaming monitor deal enables you to bag a 180Hz Asus screen for just $99.99. That's a saving of $79 compared to the MSRP listed on Asus' website, and it gets you a fantastic spec for this low price, which remarkably includes Asus' Extreme Low Motion Blue (ELMB) tech. The Asus TUF Gaming VG249Q3A also has a 180Hz refresh rate, which is even faster than the 165Hz offered by our current favorite budget option on our best gaming monitor guide. What's more, it's backed up by an IPS screen with a 1ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time. In our tests, we've found this tech is generally much quicker to respond than competing VA panels, making it ideal for playing first-person shooters at 180fps. Read the rest of the story... Times Of Progress is a special game for me, because is the first news tip I have ever received from Sin Vega, Prime Minister of Strategy Gaming, way back in spring this year. Sin once described writing news articles for our former news editor Alice0 (RPS in peace) as like practising backflips in front of the kung fu master. Writing about a new city builder at Sin's suggestion is like being invited to budget the development of Londinium by Julius Caesar. The terror of screwing it up - together with other, more trivial distractions, like international games industry conferences- has stopped me from writing about Times Of Progress for months. Today I bite the bullet, and emerge from my lodgings to issue a hesitant speech to the masses, hoping like hell that Caesar is too preoccupied with the latest Gaul uprising to notice my errors. This review contains full spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1, Episode 4. Who said Skeleton Crew was just Star Wars Goonies? Because this episode offers up another beloved reference point, and – for once – it’s not even from the ‘80s. In this, Skeleton Crew’s best episode so far, the show actually goes for something more akin to Doctor Who, complete with a trip to a planet with one central thematic gimmick (two factions, the Troik and the Hattan, are locked in a self-perpetuating, generation-spanning conflict) and even a lesson that the characters can take home (that real strength is sometimes found in kindness and not in fighting). It helps that the episode centers on the best member of the Skeleton Crew (though that’s apparently a rare opinion): Neel, the elephant boy. The kids of the Crew remain pretty one-note, and while the young actors are all doing their best with what they’re given, there are one or two who could still stand to be given more. Neel gets more in this episode, spending some time with a warrior girl named Hayna who initially takes his reluctance to join his friends in playing around with guns as a snobbish attitude toward weapons that aren’t as big as a bus. Hayna’s intrigued when she learns that Neel’s actually just nice and doesn’t like fighting, even with his tiny siblings. Learning about him and his homeworld at least plants the idea in Hayna’s head that fighting a meaningless war forever is kind of stupid – a particularly poignant lesson for Neel to impart, considering that, as we learned last week, these kids don’t even know that the Galactic Civil War happened. It took something like eight movies before anyone else in Star Wars questioned whether or not the whole thing was a mistake (and the conclusion that time was “no, it wasn’t”). This all happens on a planet called At Achrann, which is where the coordinates the crew got last week actually sent them instead of their homeworld of At Attin. At Achrann, it turns out, is identical to At Attin, it’s just been ravaged by endless wars. This switch-up reveal has the potential to be so terrifying that it’s probably smart that the show doesn’t lay it on too thick. That’s not to say it doesn’t feel unnerving, though. Locations that the kids recognize – most notably their school – are creepy, bombed-out ruins. What does that say about At Attin? It’s another good hook to pull us all along with the central mystery. The shift to a sort of Evil Dead-style direction seems unusually artful for this or indeed any Star Wars show. That great, spooky twist leads to a couple of others, like the fact that SM-33 has been to this planet before and that his oft-repeated utterance of the episode’s title line (“Can’t say I remember no At Attin”) is some kind of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.-style memory wipe trigger phrase (remember that?). This bit was a little predictable, but Skeleton Crew wisely doesn’t linger on it as some kind of unthinkable betrayal. SM-33 was always kind of off-putting, and the crew shouldn’t have trusted him in the first place. The shift to a sort of Evil Dead-style direction when 33 turns bad (with, seemingly, a camera strapped to a physical droid puppet) is also a little off-putting, since it seems unusually artful for this or indeed any Star Wars show. This episode was directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Sheinert (a.k.a. directing duo Daniels from Everything Everywhere All At Once), and even if it seems weird, it’s nonetheless nice to get a bit of auteur-ish flair in a Star Wars project. Also, with SM-33 becoming a bad guy, Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood has the “I don’t trust this guy” burden removed from his shoulders and he’s free to spend the episode goofing off. He fires off a couple of solid gags in this episode, including immediately surrendering to the Hattan militia and requesting that they just kill him, and then him considering whether or not there’s a number of animal hides he’d be willing to trade the kids for. A lingering question after last week was whether or not it would remain fun to watch him play off of the Crew, and hey, it still is! As a matter of fact, this is all still fun, and the crew is making just enough progress getting home each week that it doesn’t feel like anyone is wasting time. View the full article
