  1. While 7.1x still lacks content for non-raiders to tackle, (Chaotic) Cloud of Darkness is an excellent new addition to the patch cycle for raiders. View the full article
  2. Marvel Rivals players who are looking to snag some cool items for free should check out the game’s unlock codes. Because Marvel Rivals is only entering its first season, there haven’t been too many codes just yet. However, players should keep their eyes out for any future codes coming to the game. Aside from this page, players can also check out Marvel Rivals’ Discord server, or the game's official X (formerly Twitter) account if they want to see the latest from the game or see new codes as soon as they are posted. 3. With Season 1 on the horizon, Marvel Rivals has revealed how Chronotokens will work as seasons switch. Rivals has been praised for its relatively friendly microtransactions, like earning free Units, which is a breath of fresh air in the current gaming market. However, recent developments have shown these systems are not as great as first thought. Though, when compared to many other games, especially free-to-play ones, it is a huge upgrade. 4. The Sims 4 has much more content available than any of its predecessors, but that has led to some inconvenient issues when creating Sims and their homes. Namely, players can choose many traits for their Sims, but the number of available slots for traits hasn't grown as new traits have been added. This leads to the issue of traits being overlooked because many traits aren't worth choosing with so few slots available. View the full article
  5. Alpha Nitemary is a tough Dark-type Pal you can encounter in the Feybreak update of Palworld. It’s a stronger version of the regular Nitemary and has a darker, more menacing look. As a Dark-type, it has skills related to shadows, such as using dark energy attacks or causing effects like fear or confusion. Because it’s an Alpha, this Pal has better stats overall, meaning it has more health, higher attack power, and better defense than a regular Nitemary. This makes battling it much harder. 6. After having a very successful release since its launch at the beginning of December 2024, Infinity Nikki has just introduced its second game update, the 1.1 Shooting Star Season Update. The open-world dress-up game now sees some exclusive celestial-themed items and outfits arriving with the new update, bringing with them a variety of brand-new events and quests for players to complete. The update is quite a generous one, offering a nice amount of new content for players who may have already finished the main story quest and are looking for new ones. View the full article
  7. The Civilization games are full of historical information, but it's mixed together and cut with fantastical contrivances that make it fun to play—which is how I recently went toe-to-toe with Harriet Tubman as Han Dynasty emperor Niccolò Machiavelli when I played Civilization 7 for this month's PC Gamer cover feature. The games aren't history tutors, but Firaxis senior historian Dr. Andrew Johnson, who's also an associate professor at Stockholm University's Department of Social Anthropology, hopes the studio's passion for history inspires some of us to pick up a book. It's the whole reason he does the job... Read more.View the full article
  8. One key part of Hogwarts Legacy is a little lacking, particularly in comparison to some of the classic Harry Potter tie-in games. While those games are now much older and a little buggy at times, they had something that was more closely tied to the source material that is not seen as much in Hogwarts Legacy. It does exist in the newer game, but not to the same extent and this could all be fixed in the sequel. View the full article
  9. For some mysterious reason, Valve's Artifact card battler game had a sudden player count spike, going up to nearly 12,000 players before disappearing in a day. Artifact is a game that was first released in 2018 and is a card game that is set in the Dota 2 universe. This game specifically is known for having an incredibly mixed reception upon its reveal, with many believing Valve was chasing the trend set by Blizzard's Hearthstone. The disappointment and mild enthusiasm for the game turned into hostility when Artifact's pricing and monetization models were revealed as well. View the full article

  14. We and our council of games industry luminaries ranked Helldivers 2 highly in our 2023 Most Wanted list, which is a small point of pride. The buzz around Arrowhead's 2024 co-op shooter wasn't nothing before it came out, but it was getting a whole lot less mainstream attention before it became PlayStation's fastest-selling game ever than after. 16. What happens when you take retro shooter gameplay that you'd find in the old Quake, Doom, or Marathon games and add in some anime girls? You get The Citadel. What happens when you do it again? You get its sequel, Beyond Citadel. Created by a solo dev who appreciates old FPS games and waifus in equal measures, Beyond Citadel has now arrived on Steam a couple of years on from its highly-rated predecessor. Judging by its early Steam user scores, it seems to be carrying on the trend, too. Read the rest of the story... View the full article

  18. At last, it's time for the most exciting live competitive event of the year. No, I don't mean the Super Bowl - it's time for Awesome Games Done Quick, the annual charity speedrunning marathon that features a week of talented gamers showing off the wildest things they can do with video games. Games Done Quick (GDQ) has been running for 15 years now, since 2010. The event is a live broadcast speedrunning marathon, during which speedrunners take turns showing off beating video games as fast as possible, and often in wacky and especially impressive ways. In recent years, the events have shown off increasingly ambitious performances, including blindfolded or one-handed runs, two players using a single controller, showcases of tricky arcade games, and even speedruns performed by dogs. The annual event is held to raise money for the Prevent ******* foundation, having previously raised a record high of $3,442,033 in 2022, and $2,539,832 just last year. And this year's marathon has some pretty ridiculous runs on the docket. There's a run of Crazy Taxi backed by a live band, someone playing Elden Ring with a saxophone, new Super Mario Bros. Wii run while simultaneously playing piano, a two-players-one-controller run of Breath of the Wild, loads of randomizer races, and it all wraps up with a Map Randomizer Race between some of the best Super Metroid runners out there. If you've never watched GDQ before, it's really worth tuning in. AGDQ 2025 kicks off at 9:00 AM PT on Sunday, January 5 with a run of Pikmin on Nintendo Switch, followed by Portal 2. In fact, Sunday's full of bangers: Kirby's Air Ride follows, there's an Astro Bot run, then The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a run infamous for appearing at GDQ every years and getting shorter each time as the community discovers new, run-changing skips. If I keep going I'll just list every single run in the entire event, so here's a quick list of highlights you should definitely check out. Definitely peak at the official website for a look at the full schedule, because there's tons of great runs I didn't list here, and the timing will be subject to change constantly throughout the week. These are games that are silly, janky, broken, or otherwise of questionable quality, and always make for some hilarious speedruns. The first run, Superman 64, you've probably heard of before, but the rest you may have not. The Awful Block runs throughout the night on Wednesday into very early Thursday morning. Speaking from experience, I highly recommend having insomnia and staying up all night to watch it. The block concludes with Kevin Costner's Waterworld at 3:11 AM on Thursday. 19. The XMG is a light machine gun in Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6. It's a powerful choice for players who like heavy weapons with big magazines. This weapon is effective in medium to long-range fights, providing a lot of firepower and letting players shoot for a long time without reloading. However, it can be difficult to handle in tight spaces because it's slower and bulkier. Many players choose the XMG to hold down areas and provide cover fire. View the full article

  21. With more players having finished their globe-trotting journey through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, there's more demand than ever for another Indiana adventure. 22. In the vast majority of base-building strategy games, things are pretty static. Sure, you can usually expand your reach far and wide or build multiple settlements, but everything tends to stay exactly where you left it. In the upcoming RTS game Dark Moon, however, you, your crew, and your lunar research facility are always on the move as you navigate the surface of the Moon in deadly circumstances. You can now get a taste of what that feels like in action, as playtests for Dark Moon have just got underway. Read the rest of the story... View the full article

  24. Publisher Hooded Horse has announced that Manor Lords has sold over 2.5 million copies, which makes PC Gamer's best city builder of 2024 an undeniable smash hit. Speaking in a recent interview with the BBC, Hooded Horse co-founder Snow Rui says that, even though the publisher realised there was interest in the game's pre-release trailers and marketing, the sheer scale of the game's popularity was a surprise: "It would almost be arrogant not to be taken aback by how successful it turned out to be."..
