Genshin Impact publisher Hoyoverse has agreed to a settlement with the United States Federal Trade Commission where it agrees to pay a $20 million fine, and be banned from sellling lootboxes to teenagers under the age of 16. In press release by the FTC, the agency announced that the makers of Genshin Impact "has agreed to pay $20 million and to block children under 16 from making in-game purchases without parental consent," as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC Director of of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, Samuel Levine, says that Genshin Impact "deceived children, teens, and other players into spending hundreds of dollars on prizes they stood little chance of winning." Levine adds that companies that utilize "these dark-pattern tactics will be held accountable" if they decieve players, especially young children and teens. The main charges against Hoyoverse by the FTC is that they allege the developer violated the *********** Online Privacy Protection Rule by marketing Genshin Impact to children and collected their personal information, as well as deceive players about the odds of winning "five-star" loot box prizes, and how much it would cost to open a loot box int he first place. The FTC claims the virtual currency system in Genshin Impact were confusing and unfair, and ultimately the system obscures the fact that players will ultimately spend large amounts of money to obtain "five-star prizes" and that children have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars to win them. Alongside the fine and the ban, Hoyoverse will be required to disclose loot box odds and exchange rates for its virtual currency, delete personal information collected from children under the age of 13, and comply with COPPA rules going forward. One of the more engaging new mechanics introduced by Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the Large Force. It's basically exactly what it says on the tin: a massive congregation of enemies, consisting of both footsoldiers and officers, occupying a single location on the battle map. Oftentimes, these Large Forces are formed around a singular, highly powerful enemy officer - and oftentimes, especially in the endgame, they form around the mission target, the sole commander you need to take out to satisfy the win condition and complete the battle. Even though Deadlock has yet to be officially announced by Valve, the game soared into the scene when the Alpha version became public to most players. While recent releases have shifted focus away from the third-person MOBA and hero shooter, four new characters are bringing players back. The four fresh characters are Holliday, Vyper, Calico, and The Magnificent Sinclair, which long-time players may recognize from the game’s Hero Labs. This is a feature created by the Deadlock developers to test out concepts for different heroes before they’re officially added to the game. View the full article
Dynasty Warriors: Origins has a surprisingly variable story for a game that starts out so straightforward. In Chapter Three, players are directed to choose to side with one of three major factions: the warlords that'll eventually develop into the kingdoms of Wei, Wu, and Shu, founded by the descendants of Cao Cao, Sun Jian, and Liu Bei respectively. In effect, they'll have to take sides between three characters, all their former friends and allies they've grown close with over the course of the game. View the full article

Path of Exile 2 can be punishing. Compared to PoE 1, player characters are more fragile. In the latest high-profile hacking incident to strike Apex Legends, pro players and streamers ImperialHal, Sweet, and Rogue had their EA accounts compromised on Jan. 16, with hackers using their accounts to play ranked. Today, Respawn Entertainment announced it was taking action. In response to the security breach, Respawn said the accounts of the three players were “temporarily banned” while the dev team investigated how hackers got access to them. But the developer has now rolled out a security update to the game, and the affected accounts have been restored. The post came one day after Rogue pleaded for help from the Apex team on X/Twitter, and while the situation seemed to be resolved quickly, the hackers’ actions and subsequent bans to the accounts seemed to spoil the race for rank one in the game. The first boss you'll encounter in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turban rebellion. In general, there aren't many traditional, one-on-one boss fights in the Dynasty Warriors series; certain missions may feature difficult enemies, but climactic story moments are generally portrayed in massive battles with thousands of warriors on each side. However, Origins occasionally slows down the pacing (if not the challenge) by pitting players against powerful rivals in one-on-one fights. The first of these is Zhang Jiao, and he doesn't hold back.
